Good, quick Mexican food. Love the wet veggie burritos. Kids love the chicken soft tacos - very reasonable.

Service was fast but food was not that great. I ordered a shrimp cocktail that tasted like water and got about six tasteless shrimps for $10.00. I might give it another try since a lot of my co-workers like it but not any time soon. read more

One thing a company can do to piss me off is close early! A couple weeks ago at close to closing I got the front door slammed in my face. Then tonight I just called at 9:34pm on a Sat night to order some food to pick up and they said "Closing in 3 minutes!" If you don't have loyal customers who do you have? I LOVE THIS PLACE! Best mexican food in the area! The employees are very sweet, and very quick. On a slow day, food will be done before I could even finish bagging the chips (which are complimentary, btw). Busy days will be a 5 minute wait... NOT BAD! =D The only downside is the parking... but they're so quick with orders, that usually a customer will leave and parking would be available. read more

I still love the tacos, but they give you yucky store bought tortilla chips and they don't even have any pico de guillo ... I don't know about you, but I love me some fresh tortilla chips, as well as fresh pico de guillo. I've been going here for years. I love the green salsa... all of the food is really a delivery vehicle for that salsa. mmmm.... The chicken tacos, carne asada, carnitas are so yummy. I would frequently come here but will no longer be returning. On multiple occasions my order was made incorrectly. Consistently messed up my orders by missing some ingredients and adding others I requested not to include. After 4 visits in a row of having my order done incorrectly I have decided to go elsewhere. Ok, I was born and raised in SF (home of amazing authentic Mexican food) never did I imagine I would come to find my favorite taqueria in San Carlos. Their tacos literally remind me of the ones I have when I go to Mexico. The corn tortilla tastes fresh and their meats are perfectly marinated. Got the super burrito (wet) with chicken. The following day I had stomach cramps. It's been about two days and I have either a stomach flu or food poisoning. I've lived in San Carlos for about 4 yrs. and have driven by this joint about a million times, yet never stopped (mostly because the parking IS pretty limited). Recently went for the first time and have been back a hand full of times since. Tacos are great, (small/authentic) but at $1.25 each , grabbing four will do you just fine and not break the bank. Burritos are also yummy and reasonably priced (between $4 and $7 depending on what you want on it). Try avoiding the 12-1 crowd and you'll be OK. Don't forget to help yourself to some chips (NOT homemade) and their green and red salsas...oh, and the spicy pickled carrots are quite addicting!! read more

Our family goes here regularly. Why? Because it is always really good, the staff is friendly, and they are lightning fast in getting the orders out. AND relatively inexpensive. I always have the traditional tacos (both carne asada and carnitas), which are excellent. The kids most often get the burritos, which are large and well made. I think I must be spoiled by some of the really good taquerias out there, because I was thoroughly unimpressed with El Charrito. I had a Carne Asada Burrito, and the meat was thoroughly overcooked. The rice was dry and tasted old, and the beans had no flavor. The chips tasted like they were straight out of a Tostito's bag (or, apparently according to the other reviews here, a Costco bag), and the red salsa was bland. I didn't have any problems with the food--the burrito was passable (barely)--but the entire experience was thoroughly unremarkable. I'll probably be back again to try the tacos, but I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for a good burrito. read more

This is a throwback to old school taquerias that caters to a blue collar, local clientele. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, quantity, and price of the food here. The Super Veggie burrito is $5.95, and worth every penny. Tasty, flavorful, with a good salsa bar. Seating is limited, so get there early. read more

4 star? I think not. I ordered several tacos to sample the meats. Tortillas were hard and dry. All the meats tasted the same and were bland and dry. Chips were from a Costco bulk bag. Mediocre. This is the kind of Mexican food I expect from tiny midwestern towns, not in California. The enchilada sauce seemed right out of the can. The rice and beans were nothing special. The chicken was dry. What really upset me though is that one block east of this place, there a Mexican restaurant that serves food that is 10 times better for cheaper and in a nicer environment. (El Maguey). I wanted to brach out and try a new place, because I go to El Maguey pretty much weekly, but El Charrito was a huge disappointment. read more

I love this place! Their prices are very reasonable and they take phone orders. I order their taco plate, which means I get 2 tacos and rice&beans for under $5. The quality of the chicken is good (not fatty or gristly like some places). The rice is fluffy and tasty. The refried beans are traditional and yummy. When ordering to-go, I'll eat the beans first so they don't go cold. They have self-serve tortilla chips (as much as u like) and a couple of good salsas to choose from (one is green and mild LOTS of flavor, and the other one is red and spicy YUM).
