I love El Charro! It's one of the best spots for Mexican in town. They have a huge menu and daily specials. The drinks are great. You can get seated right away almost always. Every dish I've had here so far is delicious. The horchata was a little off in taste but the atmosphere is calm and inviting. I usually sit out in patio and upon request they let you can play music. This is my second review of El Charro, it has lost a star due to continued issues with service. El Charro needs to step up it's game as more competition moves in town. Still, the place is great. To be transparent, I grew up coming to this place, perhaps my opinion is biased due to that. El Charro is family owned and managed. The employees are good friends and work hard to see each other succeed. If you come often enough, you'll learn their names, their personalities and their strengths in the service industry. Once you are a regular, you can truly enjoy El Charro in the best way. Still, I know that's a tall order to ask of someone who's just trying to get something to eat. So for that audience, I say this: 1. Salsa The free chips and salsa here is excellent, some may say it is a little dull. If that's you, ask for a side of pico de gallo and mix a spoonful into the salsa. You're welcome. 2. Queso The queso dip is a creamy melted white dip. Straightforward and the best in Muskogee, although they are all quite similar. 3. Entrees Pollo Especial- a large piece of thinly cut seared chicken breast topped with chorizo sausage and queso. I went to this restaurant on Cinco de Mayo expecting authentic Mexican cuisine, as advertised on their sign, but was sadly disappointed. The salsa looked and tasted like it was store-bought. I ordered the Jalisco Dinner (I think) and it looked like garbage, and tasted even worse. The chicken tasted like it had gone bad and the beef was extremely tough. I couldn't eat more than a few bites of it. The waitress acted as if she anticipated hearing the bad news, because she stood as far from us as she could get, laid our ticket on the table, said "how was your food", and left without listening. I felt so bad for her, I gave her a generous tip, anyway. When paying for our meal, I told the cashier about the bad chicken, who told someone else, and they didn't seem to care. Not the best Mexican food I have had. The spinach enchiladas I ordered tasted awful. The spinach was just unseasoned canned spinach rolled into a corn tortilla covered in some sort of cheese sauce. My husband and son didn't even get what they order, but ate the bland burritos they were served regardless.
