I chose the gravy cheese enchilada for my combo plate, but I also tried my partner's green chili chicken enchilada--both were great. You can choose between red, green, or gravy sauce for the enchiladas, and I definitely want to try the red next time. Don't be turned off by the unassuming storefront and corner location. First time trying this and I was definitely disappointed.. I'm giving it a 3/5 because my boyfriend and cousin liked their food. I got two tinga tacos, one chile relleno and one calabacita taco. At first glance I was really excited and thought the food looked really appealing, hence the picture. Imagine my disappointment when I went in to grab a taco and it fell apart before I could even take a bite. All of the tortillas for my tacos were soggy :((((( I ate them all with a fork to try to at least salvage the situation. The calabacita was my favorite it was really flavorful and I liked the consistency not too squishy not too firm. I thought the tinga was lacking in flavor and the black beans were so dry. I couldn't finish the Chile relleno, it just tasted like tomato sauce to me and wasn't enjoyable. My boyfriend said he would give them a 4.2/5 for his order of two birria tacos and two cochinita tacos. He really enjoyed the cochinita tacos flavor but thought the birria tacos were average. His tortillas were falling apart as well but he enjoyed his meal regardless. My cousin got three asada tacos and one chile relleno taco. He liked the asada tacos and luckily only had one soggy tortilla but he did have to eat his chile relleno taco with a fork and thought it was average. I really wanted to like El Chilango Chido -- and parts of the meal definitely delivered -- but the overall experience left me conflicted. First, the environment: the place was uncomfortably hot, and there was a noticeable amount of grease in the air that actually made my eyes burn. Not the most welcoming vibe for settling in to enjoy a meal. The bathroom is outside (which caught me off guard), but to their credit, it was clean. Now, to the food: The micheladas were a letdown -- way too salty, even by michelada standards. But the mole and rajas tacos? Absolutely fantastic. Rich, bold, and easily the highlight of the meal. The quesabirria was also solid, with a flavorful consomé that brought it all together nicely. On the flip side, the street tacos were underwhelming. The pastor had big, tough chunks of meat with a pale, unappetizing color. Not what I was expecting at all. The alambre was haphazardly thrown together -- overly greasy, with bland meat and undercooked veggies. Portion sizes are generous, which is a plus, but it doesn't always make up for the uneven quality.
