I have eaten here a few times and really enjoyed the food and service so I opted to have my 30th birthday party here yesterday. They don't take reservations but the staff was so incredibly accommodating of our party that started with 5 and grew to about 30. I know, I KNOW, who does that?!?! Well, we did, and El Condor took it in stride. Everyone from the host to the runners to our INCREDIBLY delightful server Patrick did everything they could to make us feel at home. We tried our best not be a total nightmare but I know it couldn't have been easy to deal with us and they did an amazing job. In addition to the EXCELLENT hospitality, I have always found the food to be super tasty, and being a mezcal lover, I'm a huge fan of their cocktails. The music is always great and the whole restaurant's vibe is mellow, casual and totally welcoming. It's like going to an awesome backyard BBQ, which to me is pretty much perfect. Good service and nice outdoor seating, but the food was pretty bad you guys. Red flag #1: The salsa was like a spicy-ish ketchup - just bad. The refried beans were pasty and flavorless. The chicken tasted like old meat - I'm honestly not making this up. I spit it out in my napkin. Red Flag #2: there wasn't a hispanic patron in sight. Of course not, the food is not authentic AT ALL. Want to like this place cause they have the $5 man in their flyer for Margarita Mondays but both times we sat at the bar, first time was pleasant enough, second time the bartender ignored us for a while and then was aloof and pretentious the remainder of the time, like we were bothering him when we asked for drinks. They were super nice people... hopefully this review will help them: Let's start with the salsa. (Looks like there's a picture of it below, unfortunately) Chips were decent to good, no salt and pepper or tapatio on the table, I like to salt my chips, and sometimes add more spice if the salsa is weak. Not only was the salsa not even mildly spicy, it was the strangest thing I've ever seen... basically tomato sauce (like you'd use for pizza) with some onions, diced tomatoes and some cilantro in the middle of it... not even mixed in to pretend it's actual salsa. It's also in the tiniest dish ever. They brought out more (a few times), but we must have gone through 3 of those before the original chips were finished. The food was okay. I had an enchilada. It was decent but not amazing. Especially not for the price. Their prices were abnormally high for what we got. Also for the place itself... sort of bad decor. Not the worst, but pretty bad. I think left over from the old place which looked awful. Some of the menu items I think hit 20 or 30 dollars! Weird. Then my friend got a hard rock in her food. I didn't examine it enough to say for sure it was a rock (that's what she claimed)... but it was something that could have chipped her tooth. The waitress took the little nugget to the back area and apologized. The manager, or maybe owner came out within minutes to apologize and make an excuse saying they use all organic blah blah blah, and that it was just an uncooked bean. Which it definitely was not. Whatever it was, he was apologetic and took some money off the bill. Don't think he took the full item off the bill. Either way, they were nice people and I hope they step up their game. I could almost go three stars, but it was a weird experience... and the salsa thing I don't get at all... it's not that hard or expensive to make authentic salsa. Fix the interior, get a great salsa recipe, up your food game, quality control so shit (rocks) aren't getting in the food. El Compadre is around the same price or cheaper, and you get more food, great setting, good mild to spicy, GOOD salsa.... no I have no affiliate with that restaurant. That just came to mind. There's a really good one on York Blvd too, that I can't think of the name. There's LOTS of good mexican is my point. First off they upcharge you a service fee of 20% of the bill (so if your bill is $40 they charge u a $8 service fee) and ask for a tip too. So I usually tip 20% so I added $5 as the tip for the amount after taxes- since they already gave themselves $8.00. (Only have seen this when u have big parties, there was only 2 of us.) For the appetizers it was very good, chips are homemade, salsa was homemade too, ordered the guacamole superb $5. For the food had the carnitas burrito, my friend had the enchiladas- food took forever because they want u to order liquor (we don't drink had 2 cokes). Waitress was constantly up selling - u sure u don't want a drink? (Meaning liquor) or more guacamole? Btw Sodas are $3 come in a small can (not regular size) no refills. For the Main course it was so-so, they spice their meat with a cinnamon cumin which gave me stomach cramps afterwards and my friend too. Portions are small-medium. I really like this place. I like sitting in the outdoor-y area when it's too loud inside. The platter is delicious. I am vegan so always have the mushroom tacos. They're out of this world. Customers there are sometimes dicks. I have noticed a disproportionately large amount of dicks in this place, but if you can tune out its totally fine. Maybe I have noticed due to the intimate vibe of the place. Which I really like about it. Please don't think I'm saying that everyone there is a dick - I'm not. I love this little mexican place! It's right by my house and I've been here a few times now. The decor is cute, it's kind of kitschy and romantic all at the same time. The service is nice-- everyone is always kind and attentive. The Scratch Marg is really good, although a bit pricey at $12. They mix orange juice in with fresh lime juice and it makes for a really tasty and fresh margarita. My favorite thing here is the green enchiladas. They are SO GOOD. They're not your traditional enchiladas though-- the chicken is served on the outside, and the tomatilo sauce is different too. It's a dark green, spicy and almost smoky... I love it! The kale salad is also nice, it has pickled carrots and toasted pepitas on it. Last time I came here I got the fish tacos, which were a bit boring. Had been wanting to try this spot for months. I pass it all the time, so decided to stop by one afternoon for happy hour. Only thing good was the chips. I ordered enchiladas and they brought me out unseasoned beans with a side of unsalted rice, with enchiladas that had the meat and everything OUTSIDE of the enchilada! What? I recently found myself in LA for work and met up with a friend from study abroad for dinner. First off, there are few things that beat catching up with a friend after a long time apart. Second off, you can't hate doing so over dinner. He is from the Silverlake area and chose this location since it recently opened and he hadn't been yet. I definitely liked the atmosphere on the outdoor patio - especially since it was a closed off from the street noise. Our server was nice but kind of slow, considering the restaurant wasn't all that busy while we were there. We ended up ordering a ton since we had so much catching up to do. Here's the list: - Papas Bravas: I can dig it. - Guacamole: thumb up; good but not the best - Queso Flameado con Hongos: I wasn't a fan. I expected the cheese to be more creamy, like a dip, but it was like a melted block of cheese. - Jamaica Tinga Torta: sadly underwhelming in flavor and overwhelming in messiness. If I had been on a date I would have been embarrassed at how sloppy I looked attempting to eat it. - The Scratch: great margarita - highly recommended. I enjoyed every minute of catching up, and the overall dining experience wasn't bad, just nothing to write home about. read more

El Condor was super-hoppin' on a late Friday night. There was a 20-minute wait for a table, so my friend and I just hung out on upstairs "lounge" next to the DJ and decided to dine there since we were so hungry. Service was super friendly and accomodating and quick. We both ordered glasses of Tempranillo - I'm gonna have to call them to ask which one they served us bc it was DELICIOUS! Onto the food... Their staples are up to par: great complimentary chips and salsa, and the rice and beans that came with my taco platter were great. I ordered the Carnitas Taco and the Asada Taco for my platter. The Carnitas Taco was excellent - super flavorful! The Asada Taco, however, was DIFFICULT to eat. Why? That Salsa Borracha was just not sitting well with me! The tequila in it was too strong and made the two bites I had hard to get through. I ended up picking the meat out and eating it with the rice and beans. So overall I had a good dining experience, but I'll be staying away from the Salsa Borracha! read more

Eh! Came in for a few drinks after having breakfast at Millie's down the street. Staff wasn't very welcoming upon arrival when the hostess finally came by the door we asked to sit at bar since we weren't eating she was nice and said yes. Sat at the bar for at least 6 minutes before a bar tender brought menus, and never returned to our area to take our drink order (white blonde) we waited for at least 10 minutes before a male bartender came by to take our drinks. The hibiscus margarita for &13 was good no complaints there. I honestly just wouldn't come back based on the service and they add 20% to all checks. I guess that enables terrible service in this place. We ordered four margaritas total for $64 with the 20% included. We tipped $6 just because but I really felt like I shouldn't have given anything extra. I definitely will not be coming back here. read more

The food is better at Casita Del Campo -- and that ain't saying much. One night I had some quesa cheese bean dip thing. HORRIBLE. Another time I had the Asada Quesadilla. Edible. Not great, but edible. Although... it was $15. Over-fucking-priced, frankly. As is all their food. Tonight I wanted to order chicken tacos. I asked if they used white meat, or a combination of white/dark. Our server didn't know, LOL. Yeah, that's frickin' server training for you. The owners of this place don't give a fucking shit. I actually met the owner once. (Or one of them.) Suggested they bring in some dishes with chicken in them, like quesadillas, tacos, etc. (They didn't used to have this.) So what did the owner do? Apparently only brought in dark meat chicken. At least that's what the server tonight said the tacos were made with. You know what? That is what CHEAP, low-rent Mexican food establishments do. They only use dark meat, because it's dirt cheap. Unbelievable. This place was better with the previous, longtime owner. Now it just plain sucks. And the wait staff usually sucks, as the guy serving us tonight did. If I ever served like that when I was working in restaurants, I'd of been fired. The only reason I'm not giving this place one star, is because I like the chips. (Yeah, that's a lame reason, I admit it.) Dear Owners: Why don't you get your shit together, and train your staff to not be so "lackadaisical hipster"? And serve better food. I refuse to eat here anymore. First word of advice: MAKE the reservation. Came here twice on a whim, and both times the wait was ~40 minutes. The hostesses were very attentive and approachable, though, and the wait is always worth it. Great food, good-quality complimentary chips & salsa, and a surprisingly sophisticated playlist, even for the neighborhood. That said, it can get pretty loud with the amount of seating downstairs and upstairs, and with people at the bar- which seems like a popular spot in its own right. You can definitely find better / more authentic Mexican food across the city, but El Condor does NOT disappoint, and provides a great and fun atmosphere. read more

So, I live in Los Angeles for the past 20 years and been to Mexico a few times. I have my good share of Mexican food. I am not dared​ to say I know Mexican food very well. However, this is some very overpricing so-so Mexican food. As a place that overcharges​​ that much, it certainly has some bad seatings. The so-called patio area is so lack of air. The floor was uneven, that cause the chair to be uneven. The nice selection of music was quite loud that I can barely hear the person right next to me. The whole experience was bad. I wouldn't recommend at all. For the price that it charges, you have many more good, comfortable options out there. read more

Seriously the worst service I've had in LA in a long time. Each drink took over 15 minutes to arrive on a MONDAY night! Me and my girlfriend ordered shrimp tacos and the server brought us fish tacos. We had a very nice female waitress/bartender upstairs but one of the food servers was a total bitch. The other food server was super nice. The food was ok and nothing special. I had the carnitas tacos with Chicharron. ugh. The carnitas was excellent but I am not a fan of pig skin. My Oaxacan husband said it was better than before but still not good. He ordered a torta but it was not like he thought it would be. I really want to like this place and I will give it another try one day because I love margaritas in an airy place on a sunday funday.
