This was our first meal in the neighborhood and it was more of a walk in the park rather than an explosion of flavor I was hoping for. It is a good size and rarely a wait to be seated. I had the little churrasco, small grilled skirt steak that was cooked and seasoned well. It was tender and juicy. The maduro (beans and rice) had an unpleasant nuttiness from the undercooked beans. The empanada was average with a tomato stewed ground beef, and the mojito was a bit weak on rum. My waitress was not the most enthusiastic when she realized that we were not going to be enticed by her tourist food recommendations, like the sampler platter. Cuban food in Little Havana along the historic Calle Ocho... classic! I was pretty obsessed with croquettes while in Miami, so the *Croquetta Jamon* was a must order. The croquette was delicious, just as much as the ones before it. It is hard to choose a favorite. A perfect crunch, creamy on the inside, and so comforting. They did end up charging us weirdly to have these ordered since it wasn't listed on the menu as an a la carte option. In the end, it looks like we paid $4 for 2 croquettes, so $2 for a single croquette IS a bit steep. I wished they had included the croquettes elsewhere on the menu because they were otherwise only listed with a sampler appetizer. Other than that, I ordered a *Chicken Empanada* (large, but the pastry was hard and rubbery) and the *Vaca Frita*. The shredded beef in the latter was a bit shriveled and dry since they did pan fry it excessively. However, it had a crunch to it which I enjoyed and the sauteed onions certainly lending more depth and flavoring. The plantains on the side were fried until they were caramelizing and the moros rice with beans and pork belly within was hearty. They really give you legitimate sized pork belly in that rice! I finished just about the entire plate and was deciding whether or not I should just kill it, but the waitress determined that for me when she all but snatched my plate away from me without even confirming if I was finished or not. I have been coming here for nearly 20 years. It had been a while since I've come though. The place is still great! I had a friend come in from out of town with a large group of about 30. I called a couple days ahead and they were able to arrange a fixed family style menu for our large group. Everyone in the group loved their food. This was a solid 4 stars place I'd definitely return to. We just stumbled upon this place and I'm glad we did. The portion sizes are large. I tried really hard to finish my Camarones (sautéed shrimp) but just couldn't. It was delicious and very very garlicky (which I liked). If we weren't walking around more I would have taken it to go. I ordered the Mahi Mahi special with garlic sauce and sautéed shrimp on top with Tostones and Steamed veggies. My friend ordered the Rabo Encendido (Oxtail). The Mahi was delicious along with the shrimp. The garlic sauce not too overpowering which is good. I tried my friends Oxtail and I have to tell you, it's one of the best I have had and mind you I'm picky about oxtail because of the lack of meat but this oxtail had a great deal amount of meat. Great execution on the flavors. I apologize if I didn't take a picture of the oxtail. My only complaint about El Cristo was that it took very long to get our food. Around 30+ minutes. Looking to take a load off after walking around Little Havana we stopped into El Cristo for some lunch. It was a must to have Cuban food and the menu looked good. We were a group of five, three of our group ordered full meals and my hubs and I ordered sandwiches. I mean, I had to have a Cubano Sandwich at least once on this trip done right and El Cristo did not disappoint. The server recommend the Pan Con Lechon sandwich to my husband, saying it was better than the Cubano in his opinion and he did really like it a lot. The sandwiches do come with these potato sticks that are like tiny fries, so you really do not need to order fries -- although we did order a side of fries not knowing. Oddly they came out cold, a few were actually still frozen! They immediately took them back and made it right. The mojito was good, but our pitcher did take really long to come out (like 20+ minutes). We had a big table (15 people) and everyone ordered at once so I expected the food to take a while, but it took an HOUR, and the restaurant wasn't even that busy (there were maybe 5 or 6 parties that were 2-4 people each). Even after being hangry and starving I couldn't stomach the food. The pork chop was by far the driest thing I've ever had in my life, the sides were ok, but for a $24 pork chop I expected much better. Someone in the party had the sauteed beef and couldn't bother finishing that either, the kid's burger looked dry as hell and was also left unfinished. Came here on our last night in Miami for dinner and definitely glad we did! We came on a Sunday night where the restaurant is not too busy and seats were readily available so that was great! We were pretty hungry as we didn't have a full lunch that day so we ordered a sampler plate that came with yuca, a tamale, crisp pork and something else along with the seafood paella. Being in little Havana you want cuban food right, well here is some cuban food with not a lot of flavor... We got one of the platters so we could tried many different items plus one beef and one chicken empanada. The platter had a tamale, pork chunks, fried yuca sticks and plantains. None of the food on the platter really had a lot of flavor and my chicken empanada although had some spice I found a HUGE bone in it. She gave me a new empanada but it was kind of unsettling when she said oh yeah there are little bones in them all the time but that one I'm going to have to report, okay? Im sitting there like ummm yeah report this to the chef its unacceptable to have any bones in food no matter the size (I know it happens but this was big). We got complimentary garlic bread to start which was very good but I felt like that was more Italian (which they did have pasta on their menu) we also has sangrias to start which were fine. Overall, I say try a different cuban restaurant when in little Havana we chose this one because of yelp but for one yelp really let us down. read more

Server was on point, and even tried to help with out of the usual requests by my dining companion. Food was truly quite good, with nice presentation as well. As a side note, it appears most of the restaurants charge an 18% gratuity already. Some will let you know it's a gratuity, while others will claim it's a service charge and not the tip. The el Cristo is a spin-off of the traditional Cubano sandwich only with a couple of additions: they add chorizo sausage and potato stix. Absolutely amazing traditional Cuban food in Little Havana. We tried so much, the appetizer trays were delicious and plenty of food we only needed to order one but they had different things on them. Cuban sandwich was delicious served with hot meat inside unbelievable. Empanadas were authentic and delicious, the filling was hot and a nice delicious blend of flavors. yes Mojito's was served in a pitcher and were plentiful, enough for 2/3 servings for 3, they were delicious and refreshing. I ended up at El Cristo after a failed attempt to get a Cuban sandwich at two other nearby spots. It's rare for us to be out and about in Little Havana, but I was excited to play tourist for an afternoon. We asked to sit on the outside patio since it was a beautiful day. We were tucked away in the back corner which was a-ok; however, it did take us awhile to be acknowledged and the overall experience service wise was nothing to write home about. To eat, we decided to share a medianoche, as well as the platter of chicharonnes and yucca frita. I think there was also a basket of bread that attempted to make it our way, but a server accidentally dropped it off at another table that had already paid their bill. It was a little sad to watch it sit untouched but no one seemed to catch the mistake. Anywho, our actual order came out rather quickly and hot. Overall, it was all pretty adequate, but nothing blew me away. The food coupled with subpar service leads me to the three stars! Would I go back?
