I stopped by El Farolito Jr for a quick pickup and had a great, easy experience. I grabbed some chips and salsa, and for about $12 you get a giant container of salsa--definitely a solid value. This location is set up a bit differently than their other spot, it offers order-at-the-counter for take out as well as dine in options, which makes it super convenient for a casual meal or quick stop. The menu is huge, with tons of options, so I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more of their food. If the salsa is any indication, it's going to be worth it. read more

Don't order your food to go. They noticeably reduce the portion sizes on takeout orders. I had a very disappointing experience. I rarely leave negative reviews--in fact, this is my first one--but the service and management handled the situation so poorly that I felt it needed to be shared. Instead of making things right, management only offered excuses about the smaller portions and why certain items weren't included, even though those same items are provided when you dine in. Well, they got the real deal at El Farolito Jr!!! The restaurant seated a party of 12 immediately, chips and salsa and water were on the table when we sat down. Service was fast (thank you Brenda, you were patient and amazing!), our drinks and food were served quickly, and everything was fantastic. The Molcajete was a showstopper, but everything was muy, muy Bueno. Thank you Jesse, Brenda and staff for a fabulous meal, and for making us feel so welcome. My love affair with this restaurant started over 10 years ago when I took the wrong exit on the free way and turned into this little driveway for this huge Mexican restaurant. I discovered the Chilaquiles with steak and over time have enjoyed it topped with fresh chicken as well. Everything is good here but my favorite is the chilaquiles. El Farolito Jr is the sister restaurant of El Farolito in Fullerton. The menu includes the typical items you would expect in a Mexican restaurant. The burritos and tacos are on point. There was a salsa bar on the side with additional taco toppings. Other dishes have all been fine. One surprise was the Nachos Supreme, not so much because of the fillings, which were good, but for the size. A meal for two, or a side for four or more people. Another surprise was Mojarra al Mojo de Ajo, described as a whole fish in garlic sauce. And yes, there is a lot of garlic! For those who love garlic, it's rare to find a dish with as much garlic as this item. Which is a good thing! If you don't like garlic, you probably won't be ordering it, so don't worry about it. The restaurant can be very crowded on weekends, but less busy at other times. The place is generally clean. Access to the restrooms requires a PIN code, and strangely there are no paper towels in the men's restroom but there is a paper towel dispenser immediately outside, between the men's and women's restrooms. read more

After finding out that a handful of my high school girls soccer players and their families love eating at El Farolito, I asked El Farolito Jr to cater my girls soccer banquet at Diamond Bar High School. The offerings that were provided were a huge hit with all of our guests! The 4 different meats were super tasty, along with the rice and beans, salsas, and garnishes...we could not have asked for anything better! After food was distributed, we even got to keep all of the left overs that were made (see photos). We are super thankful they were able to provide a tasty meal for our players and their families and appreciated the constant communication and check in before and after the event from Jesse. Food and service has always been great when we come. The main reason why I chose El Farolito Jr is because of their tacos and chips and salsa. My favorite are the asada, al pastor and carnitas tacos. No one has chips and salsa like them! I've also had their red posole and it tastes just like my mom's. Salsa bar is perfect, 3 different options. The portions are good, service sucks, flavor is mid. Not sure if was because I was alone? It was also hot when I went in. As soon as I got my food, never saw my waitress again, no one bothered to check on me. I sat there staring around the restaurant for 20 minutes after I finished eating waiting for someone to offer me a box and the check, never happened....ended up walking to the register to pay and head back to work. Didn't leave a tip so I guess it's fair now but kinda disappointed I didn't get salsa for my nachos or a refill on my water. Please don't tip unless service improves, only encourages bad waitressing. Now in my opinion, a Mexican joint is only as good as their chips, salsa, and beans, and boy do these never disappoint. Incredibly flavorful salsa, not too spicy, just hot enough and flavorful enough. Beans are perfect texture and flavor, chips are 100% homemade and so delicious. I usually get the carne asada plate but this time I just kept it simple, splitting the bean and cheese burrito and quesadilla with my kids and wife and filled up on the chips and salsa.
