Open till 2:30am Friday and Saturday evenings this is a great late night weekend place for grub. Plus during the later part of the evening parking has always been easy for me. Had a craving around 11pm, so made the trip to the Mission District. My order the Chili Rellenos Meal $13.75, my order came with 2 Rellenos, plus all the meal fixings. Wonderfully tasty and in my opinion the meals are great values. The kitchen was busy (I prefer a busy kitchen so that ingredients never get stale), and there was a line to order food, but the food here has always been good, service efficient, and the line moves quickly. Dinning in is simple just listen for the last 2 digits of your order ticket, and motion over the server, or if doing take out just approach the pickup window. As for the crowd it reflects the diverse nature of San Francisco, with this evening SF Giant Fans, Mission Families, Young Adults coming from Bars, Couples opting to pickup versus order via a Delivery Service, etc. This is my goto for authentic San Francisco style Mexican food. read more

There are so many good restaurants in the Mission and this is one of them. This El Farolito has super fried egg nachos $11.25. The one off Mission St./Onondaga St. doesn't have it. The wait from ordering to receiving my food took about 1/2 hour. When I left, the line was even longer. Luckily they now added a self ordering kiosk. If you sit at the first table facing the kitchen, you can watch the chefs make the burritos in record breaking speed. As usual, the nachos tasted amazing. I also ordered a side of chips $0.75 so that I can have extra chips for the nachos. This branch doesn't have a self serve salsa station. They will only give you a green one and a red one to-go. Delicious tasting burritos! I was recommended this spot by a family friend and it didn't disappoint my craving. Spoiled by LA, I didn't have high exceptions but this place was delicious! It's a small place with a large TV on the corner where you can watch whatever's on while waiting for your order. It took about 10 minutes for our burritos to come out which isn't long at all. I loved how the meats had a good smoky flavor to it. We got one asada super burrito and one pastor super burrito. Definitely liked the pastor more than asada. Had a super carne asada burrito today. It wasn't super crowded, food was good as well as portion size. It took a minute to get food. There is outside seating that you can't see or even know exist unless you go to the back of the restaurant. I can't believe I've never written a review for this place. I grew up going here, but I don't think I appreciated it as much as I do now. Recently my husband and I were looking for something to eat -- he's a burrito lover and I was in the mood for a torta. We got lucky and arrived with no line, but sure enough, a few minutes later the line was out the door (which is pretty typical). There are plenty of tables and they're usually open, although it can get a little cold inside because the door stays open with the constant flow of customers. I've had the burritos here before and they're always well-made, but this time I ordered the torta de carne asada and it did not disappoint. Keeping late night mission burritos local. For the price $9.99 and few bucks for a mexican soda. The burrito is huge, filling and grilled tortilla wrap. Texture has a chew and flakey texture. With the green and red salsa, you won't get bored, i even mixed it which made it taste better. It's a loud kitchen with music playing. You get a pick up tag. It came out really fast, i got a table and used the bathroom, it was done when i got out. Bathroom is clean. Tables are tight but plenty of. Parking can be tricky, but i was able to find a spot. You might need to bring your own soda cap opener because they just hand it. It's a mexican food in the mission, that stays open late. Give it a go since they take card and cash. I've heard that this place accidentally overcharges vs what's on their menu pricing but we didn't run into that problem. We got super burritos, and for the $9.99 price it wasn't bad. I was hungry but wasn't starving and it still filled me up, I ate 80% of the burrito and didn't finish it all. The burrito wasn't bad and was not dry. Their green and red sauces were pretty good and not watered down, they charged $.75 cents for chips but wish they were house made vs store bought. There was a man who was very kind and ran our food out to us, that was unexpected for this place feeling like a "pop up" Mexican shop kinda feel, very nice service. Hubby likes this place but the burritos haven't been good tasting in a long time. We ordered 3 super burritos: 2 carnitas and one steak. The 2 of us with the carnitas thought the meat was bland and lacked flavor. I usually like the salsa verde but this batch was also bland and way spicy hotter than it had been in the past. A true San Francisco institution, my favorite/top super burrito in the city. The line looks long but it's worth the wait. The space has plenty of seating like an old school diner with wooden booths. The location on 24th (this location) does take card. We got a super burrito al pastor, strawberry agua fresca, chips for about $15! The group ordered the enchiladas de pollo and quesadilla as well. The agua Fresca was very good, not too sweet. It hit the spot! The burrito was the star. First, it is enormous! It's packed with flavor, fresh avocado, and the rice was so flavorful as well. My friend really enjoyed the enchiladas so I have to try that next time- the refried beans were incredibly good. I like their salsa verde a lot, their salsa roja is spicy! El Farolito is a classic. Literally not a bad item on the menu. Try the strawberry agua Fresca.

This is not the same location as the one next to the 24th Street BART station. That location is waaaay better. Here is the breakdown of my thoughts. Price: Nearly 5 dollars per taco. I don't mind paying for a higher quality product, but I think they're pricing their tacos in line with the hype for the El Farolito Name, which I feel is unjustified because this place is not the same. Food: We ordered a few tacos and a burrito. The burrito was mediocre at best. Tortilla was very dry and cracking. Ratios were incredibly off; it might as well have been a rice and bean burrito. The meat in the burrito was very bland. The tacos (lengua, tripe, carne asada) were just, okay. The meat in the tacos were also pretty bland, with the exception for tripe. Tripe was pretty good. Service: They were fairly quick to get our order out, but we ended up not getting one of our tacos. When we brought it up to the server, he was quite quick to tell me that I was wrong and proceeded to rummage through the trash cans to find the ticket for our order to prove his point (with the same hands he used to serve food around the restaurant). He eventually was not able to find it and asked the cashier - who eventually admitted to forgetting to include that taco in our order. Nice no frills Mexican food. Always busy, always tasty. Usually get the burrito as it's a staple here- but today I switched it up a little and got the quesadilla- which was a great decision. I can't tell if it was even bigger than a burrito but definitely packed full of meat and goodness- with a nice crispy outer layer. This place is also known for the quesadillas! Huge and full of meat. Always ask for extra green and red sauce. the red sauce is more spicy than the green. The service is fast, the place is cantina-style (not always the cleanest), and the food always hits the spot. Another place that I meant to try for a long time and never got to until now. Back in the day my friends were always telling me how amazing El Farlito was, that was 10 plus years ago. Here I am about 10 years later they were really hyping up the burrito here. So I decided ro go with the burrito, I would normally get the quesadilla which is always my normal go to at taquerias, but decided to go with what most people said was the best burrito in NorCal. I would say this the service was decently fast, I got my burrito less than about three minutes after I ordered, so that's efficiency I guess. It is also a hefty size burrito, so they do get plus for that. To be honest it was not a Wow! It changed my loge burrito, but it was good. For a moment I thought it was going to be a burrito filled with mostly rice and beans, because I got very little carne asada when I took the first few bites but then the middle and end section of the burrito was brimmed with plenty of carne asada meat.
