There were quite a few problems with this place. 1. I know it's a mexican dessert place but it was difficult to navigate if you're not familiar with the place or mexican desserts. The whole menu was in Spanish and we had to look up pictures of the items to see what was in it. There were also no labels saying what the ice cream flavors were 2. We ordered a crepe and ice cream and the crepe was just way overpriced for what it was but the ice cream was good (I'd say a 4/5 for the ice cream) 3. The crepe wasn't a crepe at all. It was a pancake. They literally just used pancake batter. 4. It took forever to get our order. Around about 30 minutes (but we were told it would only take 10 minutes). Decided to try this place on a whim, little bit out of my way, but it was worth the extra distance! It has a small hole in the wall feel, the menu provided more options than I knew what do with. I used pictures on Yelp and Instagram to decide, lengua vampiro (a tostada like open face quesadilla with delicious flavorful salsa) and a mulita birria, (corn tortillas quesadilla) it was all very tasty, and the ingredients was fresh along with hand made tortillas. The service was friendly and open to explain the menu and options, though it was getting busy as it is Sunday and church let out, and this place is a common after Mass gathering location I assume. My daughter told us about this place 3yrs ago and we come here at least once a week from Manteca. From their fresh made tortillas to their rice and everything in between. Sopes take a little longer to come out but sooooo worth the wait, especially since they are made FRESH! Staff is SUPER friendly, professional & helpful. I can't speak highly enough about this place and their delicious food! My only criticism....they don't have a place in Manteca! I'm from the SF Bay Area so we have really good Mexican food. But El Frutal has to be one of the BEST places I've ever eaten at. Food and desserts are all delicious especially the asada (beef) tacos and fresas con creama (strawberries and cream dessert). Today was our first day here and we had no idea what we were doing, to be quite honest. When we got to the counter we were greeted warmly by Patricia and we automatically knew we had to leave a yelp review just for her. She helped us decide what sounded best for us and we loved our tacos, asada fries, mango nada, and fresas con creama. We ordered tongue tacos, nacho supreme's, corn in a cup, a couple extra of their homemade tortillas and a cucumber/lime drink. There's a lot more on the menu. Check it out. A small hole in the wall with maybe six or seven tables and some outside seating, weather permitting. Family operation. Everything was clean. Very friendly/helpful employees. Everything seems to be super-sized that they serve. Suggest bringing along a friend or two to share things with. Too much for one person. They had a steady stream of customers while we ate there. We deviated from our normal spot to give this place a try and it was okay :) not bad not better than our local spot but I probably wouldn't order the same things again, my husband and I always order a bionico (fruit salad in sweet cream) and Elote ( corn with Mexican fixings) my corn was really watery from the corn I suspect being from the can, hard to have any flavor in a bit when it all stays in the "corn juice" kinda really grossed me out so I didn't finish it. My husbands bionico was great just different from what we are used to, very runny thin cream we are used to a more yogurt texture. The fruit also still had a lot of the skin on it the pears/apples. I've seen her before, but I actually finally met Karina today and asked if this was her family's restaurant and she said yes. The food, drinks, desserts and service are very good! I'm going to keep coming here until I try everything on the menu! Lol! My favorite is the Asada Vampiro Tostadas with a large Cucumber Lime Drink. Today I also tried the Crepe. Wow!...stuffed with strawberries, bananas, whipped cream & Nutella then drizzled with condensed milk and chocolate syrup and a scoop of ice cream...hello!!! I also ordered the Corn in a cup" but took it to go because I was stuffed! When I crave mangoes I get the Mangonada. I also had strawberries & cream before. The cucumber water is so good! I've tried the tacos, vampiros and the quesadilla. I really liked the quesadilla with Carne Asada but it's a lot of food for just myself. You know your a regular when you call in your order and you no longer have to say your name. I want to try the papa loca. They don't have pictures. I've asked too. So I will order soon and post it. Disappointed. I had high hopes for this place because the crepes look really delicious from the pictures I saw but they simply didn't taste like crepes and the service was super slow. The crepes were really thick and had more of a pancake consistency. If you are looking for an "authentic" crepe I don't think this is the place to go. Carne Asada is tender with a lot of flavor the mulita de asada was definitely my favorite I wish I had a photo. I had the opportunity to stop by from a awesome friend who recommended i give this spot a try. I walked in and the young gal behind the counter was welcoming and polite. I can hear the the great vibe in the kitchen team enjoying their work day. I walked in with a mission to taste and find another location to fill my Taco palette . Ill say this, they knocked it out of the park. 1. Tripas were fire!!!! Flavorful with the right amount of tenderness. No funk taste or chewy. 9 out 10 2. Adobada - was also good. The pineapple combination and the meat not super greasy or salty was a plus. The guacamole salsa was a nice blend and not spicy which pushed the true taste of the taco. 8 out 10 3. Birria - had a Basic Birria Taco to find out if the cook had skills and he does. Beef Birria was tender and juicy. Great taste and flavor that at times folks get out of control with seasoning which gives that gamey smell. Not here they nailed it. 8 out 10 4. Cabeza - this right here is hands down up there with best Cabeza made tacos i have eaten. 10 of 10 I was very please with the service and quality of food. The fact they use hand made corn tortillas just adds to the taste and enjoyment. Then washing it down with a nice 500ml Mexican Coke. I will definitely be visiting again. Guys....this place is freakn' delicious! I went here with the kids recently because I had a mean frozen chocolate covered banana craving after viewing all of their pictures & I was not disappointed. I had 1 shrimp taco & 1 fish taco both on homemade flour tortillas (choice of corn or flour tortilla)...wow, just WOW! These tacos were sooooo damn good! The flavor is to die for! The texture is just right with crisp fish/shrimp, creamy sauce, all held in deliciously delicate flour tortillas, & they're not skimpy on the fish or shrimp. My mouth is watering for them just writing this review . My oldest son had a regular asada burrito with salsa on the side & said it was really good. I tried a piece of his asada & it had great flavor, the burrito was big & wasn't filled primarily with rice/beans like a lot of other places, & again...made with a delicous HOMEMADE flour tortilla. My 2nd son had the asada fries & surprisingly those were really good! I've never been a fan of asada fries, but these were good. The fries were cut large enough so you actually tasted the potato & they didn't become mushy from all the toppings (nacho cheese, shredded cheese, sour cream, guacamole, cilantro, onions, & tomatoes). These fries literally took up the entire space of one of those big square styrofoam to go containers (see pic). Way too much food for my 7 y/o & probably too much for the average adult as well, but it's definitely worth trying. My youngest son & daughter shared a chicken quesadilla (just chicken & cheese as requested) & this thing was HUGE! It was served in 2 pieces, but even just one piece took up the whole surface of the paper plate (see pic). The chicken inside was moist & had great flavor with just the right amount of warm melty cheese, & of course it was all inside a homemade flour tortilla. Another thing, I tried the cucumber water as recommended from many Yelpers & I really enjoyed it. I'm usually an horchata kind of girl, but I really enjoyed this cucumber drink because it wasn't super sweet as horchata usually is, it was light, & very refreshing especially for hot summer days. For dessert I had the chocolate & peanut covered banana which I 4got to snap a picture of because I was just too excited to start eating it lol. It was good, not as sweet as I would have liked, but still good. These bananas are not your average size bananas and not even average larger size bananas...they're really big! My son had a Bionico which we've never heard of & he really liked it, but I wasn't a fan. It's a mixture of chopped fruit (strawberries, bananas, apples, etc.) in a creamy milk based liquid then covered in coconut shreds & granola. The flavor seemed off to me as if something in it was expired/stale (maybe the coconut shreds or granola?), & idk if that's a normal taste for bionicos, but I wasn't too fond of it. My other kids had scoops of icecream (strawberry & bubblegum) & they weren't fans. My daughter who typically loves icecream didn't even eat hers (strawberry), so I tried it & I understood why. It had a very strong & unnatural taste. My other 2 sons only ate about a third of theirs & didn't want anymore. This is unusual for them because they love icecream from basically everywhere (Baskin Robbins, Brewster's, Thrifty (Rite Aid), etc.). With that said, even though their icecream is decently priced ($1.99/scoop), I will not be getting icecream from them again because it was pretty bad or at least their strawberry was. All in all, aside from the icecream, our experience here was great. The food was amazingly delicious & fresh, they have really good customer service, & although the inside is very small, the girls made sure to keep tidying it up, so it was really clean in there. read more

I'm not going to go into detail about what they did wrong but as I was grabbing my food they were mocking us and talking sh*t. THEY screwed up and they have the audacity to mock clients like that? SO disrespectful- I wanted to just throw my food at them. It's beyond me how this place has any good reviews. Probably just from friends and family. Super overpriced too. This is actually my second time here. The first time I got a manzana loca and that was really really good. Today I ordered a burrito supreme (asada) and was so disappointed because there was no sour cream or guacamole. This was really important for my pregnant ass lol We also stopped at Taco House for their gigantic quesadilla on handmade corn tortilla and I didn't get a burrito there because I read that they didn't have guacamole. This place is DELICIOUS! I wish they opened up earlier.. I suggest 10:00 or even 10:30! I arrived at 11 and they didn't open the doors until 11:04. Not a huge deal but I was on my lunch break so every minute matters! Now, to the food.... Shrimp taco was crisp and full of flavor, shrimp is battered and deep fried to perfection. The sauce is flavorful with some spice. The fish tacos were amazing, also battered and fried but one taco was lacking fish. Pastor was good but I'll skip the pineapple on top next time.
