Just ate here, I had the burrito mojado, my wife had taco de chille verde and taco de chicharon, and a gordita de asad. The food here was mid or below mid. Carne asada was grey in color, dry and not good. The chicharon taco was mostly skin, not typical chicharon with meat , afterwards we were told it had cheek or machete. It looked pretty bad. The pork chille verde was very mid and the gordita had an old oil taste if you know what I mean. My burrito was de asada, I covered that. The rice and beans, tortilla and green and red sauce was mid. Service was good, food was lonchera type at best. Paid abit over $50 for this plus they charge an additional $2 to use your card. Will never eat here again. read more

I was craving both champurrado and mole, so when this restaurant offered both I was down to give it a try this past Sunday. The place was really busy, but we luckily were able to be seated as soon as one of the smaller families had left. I already had my selections in mind while my fiancé browsed the menu. We ended up ordering the mole, champurrado, a Mexican coke, and shrimp cocktail. I was surprised to find that the mole is a little bit more watery/liquidy than I am use to, but my fiancé reassured me that the kind they make was from a different part of Mexico. The mole tasted good regardless and the chicken itself was pretty moist too. I really enjoyed the shrimp cocktail as well and it was super packed with shrimp. Absolutely delicious, came during this cold hot gloomy weather craving some home made tortillas . This place is a little difficult to find because their is about 3 other restaurants inside the building but worth the search. The mulita was fresh and the avocado and chipotle made it a perfect combination. My daughter loved the corn elote. The guacamole was different almost tasted like ceviche but delicious non the less. The sope was probably my favorite, as I enter into my food coma this is probably one I'd get again for sure What I wouldn't recommend is the shrimp cocktail had a bitter taste to it . I tried adding sauces to make it tasty but I simply couldn't. Finally but not least the molcajete, it was probably the best we've ever had. Shrimp/chicken/steak /cheese/onions/jalapeño/cactus with a spicy hot salsa over it . 10/10 would recommend We finished our meal off with 2 aguas frescas , we had a Jamaica which if you know you know and this beverage could've had a bit more Jamaica flavor And an horchata very classic drink the cinnamon was a bit on the strong side but if you like cinnamon it's very tasty. Food was great, service was lagged. It took several minutes and trips to get items to our table. We asked for some items more than twice and still went without some of those requested items cause we just gave up lol. I would chalk this up to understaffing, at no point were they rude to us or bad attitude. We ordered the Molcajete and Marisco shareable plate and split this between 3 of us. Was more than enough food, the molcajete came with some delicious handmade yellow corn tortilla and the mariscos with option of saltines or tostadas. We opted for both, they brought us over extra since we were sharing. If you've never had a molcajete do yourself a favor and order it, but make sure to share because it is lots of food. It's a mixture of chorizo, chicken, steak, shrimp doused in salsa with fried cheese seared nopal, grilled jalapenos and sauteed onions. My oldest daughter ordered a torta, the youngest a burger, and I ordered a fish ceviche tostada. When I tried the ceviche, it tasted very sour. I thought the lime juice they had used was the cause. I tried masking the taste by using more lime juice, salt, and tapatio. The next morning, I woke up nauseous, with diarrhea and a nagging feeling of having to throw up. I was sick the whole day. I wasn't able to eat anything. I had a stomach ache and diarrea all day. It is now Sunday morning, I feel a little better, but I'm still not ok. I do not recommend this place at all. My husband & I went here and we will never return. 1st the waitress was horrible. She asked what drinks we wanted but never asked us what size. The menu didn't have the sizes so we assumed it was 1 size but didn't know how big they actually were. She brought my drink and it was huge I tend to eat and drink like a bird so i usually always order small drinks because i never finish it but again she never asked what size i wanted. 2nd We asked for the menudo and she assumed i wanted a large as well and i told her make sure its a small and she rolled her eyes. I've come here several times and I always enjoy my food and service but this last time I came the food did not seem to taste very fresh or great tasting as usual. For a Saturday mid day I would expect better quality food. Maybe because it was Easter weekend and they expected a rush of people so they prob made the food a day or two before so that they would be set for Saturday thus then downfall in freshness. Anyhow that's just my guess. On the plus side, the bill was cheap and so it didn't bother me as much had it been super expensive. Bottom of the barrel Mexican cuisine. What they call guacamole is just runny avocado puree. Most of the upholstered bench seating is ripped up. It's an open stall, so they can't keep flies out. I tried the Pombaso, a Mexican roll soaked in chorizo. Nothing I would try again. I also had a wet burrito. You can have it soaked in green, or red sauce. I always choose green sauce. It wasn't covered in melted grated cheese like most places serve it. Just a few almost invisible sprinkles of crumbled dry white cheese. If you like bottled salsa with stale chips, El Gallito is the place for you. Definitely no place to take guests to. The waitress was very pleasant. If you want a taste of Mexico you are way better off visiting Olvera Street instead. read more

I had the goat birria in stew and it was one of the most unpleasant birria eating experiences. The meat was dry, hard to pull of the bone, and very smelly. Good goat birria is not hard, dry, and easily slips off the bone. Unfortunately, the birria at this establishment is far from good. I ordered an order of handmade tortillas for an additional price. They were too thick, not made to order, and luke warm. I expected made to order tortillas since I was incurring an additional cost. Tucked away in the Mercado are these restaurants that serve up some pretty decent food. El Gallito is one of them. I haven't had a gordita since I was a pre-teen and I always remembered the Mercado had some places inside that served them up. A gordita is a corn meal cake stuffed with your choice of meat. Think Mexican pasty for you gringos from the upper Midwest or a Pita pocket. Anyway, I was able to convince my lunch bud J-Me to join me in search of the gordita and we entered this mecca indoor swapmeet of shops called El Mercado. We cruised around the 2nd floor where the restaurants were and decided to sit at El Gallito. Service was prompt and efficient. The Gorditas were freshly made and the texture was slightly crunchy but still soft. I had the barbacoa and Al pastor. J-me had the carne asada. These things were juicy, greasy and super tasty. One will fill you up. I had 2 and couldn't eat dinner that night. The beans were refried and tasty like my mom use to make them when I grew up in EasLos. El Gallito has a ton of other things that look enticing on their menu board. This place is a good choice if you're out that way. I'd give this place 3.5 stars. read more
