Wandered over for lunch and glad I did. This ain't Chipotle. You get a big ol' burrito with plenty of fillings. Super tasty and I had enough leftovers for dinner. I do recommend the chicken as protein choice. Place is tiny but they make food quick and avocado is included! Stopped here after dropping off some items at Goodwill Donation Express one evening. I ordered 3 tacos - 2 carne asada and 1 adobada (the gentleman preparing food said they were out of carnitas), and they were ready in under 5 minutes. Replete with chopped onions and cilantro, I also got to choose between red &/or green salsa on top. After adding a mandarin Jaritos to my order, I was asked if I had cash (sadly, no - I'm absolutely a millennial and nearly always carry strictly plastic). Not to worry, as the proprietor ran my credit card through the square plugged into a tablet for a total of $10 (not sure if there's a surcharge for using a card, but it would be reasonable). I sat outside, near the very lovely misting device located by the entrance, to enjoy my meal. They've got a couple tables with chairs on their patio where you can sit and enjoy your food once it's done. All three tacos were delicious and hit the spot. It looks like a small as a sno-cone stand of yore (in fact, it might have been) but there is plenty of space for culinary genius to blossom here. Sit at the counter, watch Steve Harvey on the TV, and talk about life's problems over a Mexican coke while you wait for a handmade taco, tortilla, or other fabulous creation to be served on a platter, a fork, and with LOVE. The beans are real, the chicken is moist and a little spicy, and the lettuce, salsa, and extras are just right. If you had just TOO much of the hipster couples fighting for the last keto-friendly hormone-free bison burger at the Trader Joe's next door, or dealt with a super mean octogenarian at the CVS pharmacy line who must be an entitled Fabulous 40's resident...a tortilla here will restore your faith in mankind. acceptable but expensive. but i guess everything is nowadays. 20 street tacos (4 each of 5 meats), what cost $30 2 years ago is now $75 with tax and tip (20 tacos, 1 jarritos while i waited, and the minimum tip of 15% on the checkout screen). i'm not really sure how it's even mathematically possible and the owner, who speaks very little english, had to call someone on the phone to do the math and i didn't want to second-guess him. also, the chiccharone was very old and turning rancid. the chicken was decent though. the adovada just ok. carnitas was just crumbles from the bottom of the pan :/ nice enough guy though. read more

Sadly, the asada in the burritos was super dry and the tiny amount of sour cream didn't help with the dried out meat. Seriously, it was like little jerky bites. Don't forget the little guys, people! I may be writing this during the COVID-19 shelter in place order, but Island Tacos still needs to make a living and they are still open for business! Because this is a small, literal mom and pop food stand, they don't necessarily have the means or expertise to spread the word about them being open. Nevertheless, I've driven by twice now and stopped in a whim because I've seen the gentleman cooking up a fresh batch of chicken and asada over the grill outside. The tacos are simple but delicious. Done in a traditional style and made all the zestier with homemade house salsas and plenty of fresh lime squeezed across the top. Don't take my word for it - check them out yourselves! read more

Great place for quick Mexican food. I ate here for lunch a few times and just brought my two sons. We loved it. Staff is super friendly as well. I like the Gran Taco but they are almost too big to pick up so you need to use a fork. A good problem to have! Seating is outdoors only but they have umbrellas. You won't be disappointed. read more

My trainee ordered a 5.99 $ burrito that rung up tob7.50$ and was just curious about the price and the grill chef rudely turned around and remarked do you want it or not. His card was already swiped. I looked at vfc the chef and said truly that is not a very good business practice response but thsn kg s to your remark I will not be ordering. I look left. The old couple here - just bad spirited people. Been here a bunch of times and always left them fat tips - on 10 dollar order I'd drop a 20 and not ask for change. Did this a bunch of times. Felt like this elderly couple could use some extra money. Today, the guy tells me that once when I bought a burrito his credit card machine actually didnt process my payment and I owe him like 7 bucks or something. Really? Not even sure if he told the truth but how are you going to remeber the $7 and question me for it after I dropped you a lot of tips in the past. I told them that wasnt a good character move and dropped a $20. Also, want to mention is that they always want you to pay cash and usually when it comes to change they have a hard time counting for some reason. You would want to frequent this place....they seem like a nice, hardworking older couple.... They aren't. The lady's smile is fake, the food is nasty, microwaved food that is kept in Tupperware and cooked god knows where. Her husband is a greedy drunk and has a horrible racist attitude. The last time I was there, when I asked for two salsas to go with my burrito, his demeanor changed and he became angry, belligerent and yelled over his shoulder while he began rushing and aggressively making my food, "That's a lot of salsa man, are you going to pay for all that salsa?!" Most places give complimentary salsa... but not island taco. The lady is just as bad, if you don't make note of prices she will smile at you and over charge as much as 3.00 per burrito, she was regularly overcharging and claiming the menu prices are wrong. The food also tastes like soapy Tupperware since they use plastic containers which are washed with scented soap, there was times when I would get a burrito and it would taste like dish soap from the Tupperware. I got sick several times from eating here, always giving them a second chance, up until her husband yelled at me and became disrespectful. People love this place because they enjoy being defrauded by a seemingly nice older couple who appear to need money? It seems like they're a hard working couple with a taco shack but the reality is that they likely can't find work elsewhere because of their toxic, unscrupulous attitudes. read more

Small place with small selection (Tacos, burritos, and similar. You can choose which meat filling (chicken, pork, steak, and a couple other options including vegetarian.) We get the "Grande Taco" which has 2 tortillas with all of the fixings piled on top of them. We then split the fixings onto the two tortillas for 2 Tacos. The place is small inside. Customer side of the counter is a couple of feet wide. You go inside, place your ordern and wait outside. Seating is they have a couple of tables outside. This place is definitely odd. You open the door and BOOM there's the counter. I ordered two carne asada tacos and one gran chicken taco. Just so I could try a little something of each. But I ended up getting an extra carnitas taco (yes, which I paid for) because when he repeated my order back to me and sneakily slipped the extra taco in there, I felt like I was on the spot. Oh damn, shit. I should speak Spanish. But all I was able to muster out was "uhhh yeah." The 3 regular tacos were good. I took a couple bites of each just to get a taste. The only thing one should be aware of is that when it says it comes with cilantro... it REALLY comes with cilantro. So much so that it kind of overpowers the flavor of the meat. The gran taco came with sour cream, cheese, beans, onions and CILANTRO. I am going to agree with Brian V and say that it should not be called a taco, because good luck trying to fold it over. I guarantee you won't be able to. So think of it more like a loose pizza. On the counter they have lime, green sauce and red sauce. Raddish and something else I couldn't tell what it was but I think jalapenos are also up for grabs. Little containers are there for your sides. Decent food from a tiny kitchen kiosk. A kind hearted couple owns this small business and serves a surprising variety of eats. Ask about their tamales. Reasonably priced $18/dozen for the generously filled, delicious tamales. Just check before eating to make sure they've been cooked. If not, steaming for 25 minutes will do the job. read more

So my friend and I sat around watching Bizarre Foods all afternoon. We watched the Puerto Rico episode where they had a ton of street food and they were drinking orange Jarritos... I totally wanted a taste of all that yummy street food. So we scoured our brains for something similar.... We settled on getting street tacos at Island Tacos. Pretty darn close to Andrew Zimmern's experience! They even had the Madarino Jarritos!! So good. He got a three of tacos (2 carnitas, 1 carne asada) while I got the burrito. The tacos were $1.50 each and my burrito was about $5. The carnitas was yummy and not too heavy or greasy. We hung out on their little patio watching the cars go by munching on a delicious lunch. I stopped in for the first time today (try hard not to kill those inside when you open the door) and ordered two carnitas grand tacos, thinking that for 3 bucks and some change there was no way just one would take care of how starving I was. For 8$, I had a huge taco for lunch and am saving the other for dinner. I just woke up from the taco induced nap and am already planning my next trip here. Hubs and I came here for the first time on Saturday afternoon. We ordered a pork tamale, pork street taco, beef street taco, and beans and rice. My faves were the beef meat, it was tasty flavorful and tender, and the beans. They also carry bottled Mexican sodas-fanta,coke,jarritos. The food is not cooked on site; it's re-heated by microwave and the tortillas are warmed on an electric flat griddle. This didn't both me. Plus the young man working the stand was a cutie, he had a great personality and was an awesome multi tasker cranking out the orders. I observed him with his handling of the food and money. He used gloves and took them off/ on at appropriate times. The tiny prep area was clean and organized. Note: there is a card transaction fee. Limited outside seating. read more

Skipped the tacos this time and ordered two tamales, one pork and one chicken. Did the usual dance of avoiding the swinging screen door as people came and went. There's really only enough room in the place for two customers and that's only if they stand in one spot without getting rowdy. My tamales came on a styrofoam plate, covered with a square of foil. Not exactly mess-proof, but what do you want when paying less than $4 for a delicious meal? Before leaving, I made sure to load up on sliced jalapenos, and a little cup of both red and green sauce. Oh, and LOTS of napkins. The tamales were different than my previous visit, but still some of the best I've ever had. Wrapped in real corn husks (of course), the masa was moist and tasty, with plenty of flavorful, marinated meat inside. The green sauce was especially spicy, while the red had a more mellow flavor. Good tacos.. Don't bother with the Grand Taco.. just the regular. If you want a Grand Taco, seriously just get a fucking burrito. Grand Taco-- you can't even really pick it up because it's topped with so much more than the fresh onion and cilantro of a regular taco. You can pick it up but, a lot of stuff falls.. They have plastic forks but to me, that defeats the purpose of a taco. And that's all I've had here so far and a bottle of Coke that wasn't very cold from the fridge. They also have tamales, quesadillas, burritos.. It's literally a little building on the corner of the Incredible Pets/Cassidy's parking lot. You enter to order. No room for anything else inside but for condiments, a fridge, and the counter separating you from the kitchen. Outside they have a bench, one table, and a little space attached to the exterior wall to rest your food and stand around gorging it. ..or you can take your food to-go. 3.5 stars. Very tasty street tacos. I love the simple meat, cilantro (no cebolla por favor) corn tacos with salsa and lime. If you're really hungry, try the super taco. It's pretty much a burrito in a corn taco shell. If you don't want to try anything out of the norm, make sure you know your meats in espanol, or have something to translate.
