Had the "Panqueques de Dulce de Leche," which is a very popular dessert in Argentine, but these had a bit of a twist: flambe with rum. Delicious! We always have a great meal here. The place is quite small, but we recently discovered that they also have a "secret" upstairs that they open on certain evenings. It's awesome that even before you order, they place a plate of salami and provolone in front of you. The portions are huge and VERY well priced. Sangria is tasty, and the service also is good. (We have also been to La Esquina Criolla that someone else mentioned, which is also quite good, but without the extras that are here.) Wife from Argentina, I'm from NY. We went here for first time last wekend and we have now found that special place we can go when the wife is homesick. I have been to Argentina many times and this is EXACTLY what you get in a typical place around the country, or in an area such as San Telmo. I will make this simple...for the price and quality, this is the best Argentine restaurant in NYC. Since the restaurant is also a butcher shop (that's actually how the owner started his business) the meat is always fresh. This has the best parrillada (mixed grill) for the price. Have it with a Sangria and finish it with an espresso and a panqueque de dulce de leche (the Argentine version of the French crepe) and you'll definitely go home satisfied. I never meant to end up at this restaurant, I was on my way to one across the street. After a late lunch here I did not regret my decision. I went after the usual lunch hours so the place was full but not so much that it should affect service. This is the only reason I gave it four stars. I asked for water but had to ask one more time to get it. And they really didn't come to check on how we are doing after they served us the main course. Now for the good. They served a free appetizer along with the bread, provolone cheese with prosciutto and tomato slices drenched in olive oil. I didn't have any but the people I was with loved it. We ordered empanadas for an appetizer and were surprised and the flavor which was very different from any Argentinian empanadas I've had. Finally for the main course we had a bit of everything on the menu. Veal skirt steak, short ribs, sausage, lamb ribs. All the meats were juicy and delicious. The seasonings are unique in a good way. The portions are nice for the price, less than 20 for an amount that most people would find daunting (however I am quite the carnivore so it was portioned for me). I was told the salad dressing was great, and the French fries were average tasting, but had a nice crisp crunch to it. First time I ever came across this place I'll give it a thumbs up. My friend was raving to come here so we did and we actually were happy because it was definitely worth it. The food speaks for itself we got the meal for two which has 2 beef ribs and 2 skirt steaks. I only eat meat well done but Spanish steaks are mostly chewy. I am from Argentina. In all my time living in the US, trying many, many Argentinean restaurants in NYC and around the country, this is the best. Pasta that is truly like that in Buenos Aires. Our friends (he's half Argentinian) took us out to dinner with our children and it turned out to be a wonderful discovery. The owner was really friendly, attentive, and made sure he found the best table for us. The service was also friendly, even though they were very busy and the kitchen was hopping. And the food was delish! I shared a churrasco with my friend. It was cooked to perfection and tender. They also had a combo meet platter with sweetbreads, blood sausage and other yummy stuff which I will try next time. We all loved the deserts and the house wine, too. Worth the trip . I took the bus to the restaurant (has a butcher on the premises) and bought the skirt steak and chorizos. I broiled them for dinner and we had the best meat in a very long time. The meat was fresh and did not needed to be treated with nothing more then little salt . I served it with salad and wash it down with red wine. The freshly made sausages were out of this world. Next time I will eat in the restaurant so I also can try their great desserts, plus the atmosphere is friendly. Really disappointed !!!! Went with my husband last week end as we used to love the food there. We were assigned a small table in the middle of two rows, on the left section. We asked to change to the other side if possible because the table was really tiny. The owner showed up and asked us to wait at the entrance. More than 20 minutes waiting ... My husband went to look at the other side and more than 15 tables were empty !!!! We then talked to the owner who was really rude and unprofessionnal. He said that we HAVE TO wait for a table of two to be empty, that he is the one in charge and if we are not happy we can leave. Which we did ! And we will not go back any time soon. been to this place all the time, coming from Argentina it is difficult to find places that actually know what they are doing. (maybe because some restaurants are owned or have cooks that are not from argentina, use stuff that we argies don't use, and the flavor changes) we went for dinner at around 9pm on a Saturday, had to wait a little, but once you try the food, it's worth it. I had the Bife de Chorizo, my sister had the Entraña and mollejas, while my mom had the Parrillada. all the food came freshly done, and the meats were very tender, juicy and flavorful. the salads are the usual bowl of lettuce, tomato and onion, cucumber and carrots, with a vinaigrette. Came here with my family on an early Saturday night. We were seated quickly. That's the only quick thing from that night. We waited for 40 minutes before they even brought us water. Even longer to get our food ordered. The wait staff was rude. Particularly our waiter. He seemed like it was a bother for him to even take our order. When the food finally came out the whole order was not complete. We finished eating and they had still not brought out the food for the rest of our party. Just an overall bad experience. The wait staff stands in the corner and watches each table urging them to get up and leave. The same waiter brought a surprise dessert my family ordered for my birthday. I went for dinner with 3 other people on a Sunday night. While the food is decent but by no means worth going out of your way to visit here, the service was an embarrassment for a NYC restaurant. After waiting for an hour to be seated, which was unexplainable since there were by my count 6 empty tables that would accommodate at least 16-22 diners, I knew I was in a place where I would not have a pleasant dining experience. Once we ordered the food took 1 hour to come out. At no point did our server come over to attempt to explain that there may have been delays/issues in the kitchen (which we would have understood within reason) When I raised this point the server was offended I even had the audacity to raise this to her attention. To make matters worst, the owner arrogantly walked around to greet the patrons and when I followed up and pressed him about the extremely poor service he shrugged his shoulders and said "it's a Sunday". With that response I called for the check. There are plenty of Argentine steakhouses that will value your time and treat you accordingly. The meat was really good and very well done the sides were kind of basic but still pretty decent, the service was not that great, when the entire order came out there was a side missing (funny enough the waiter had had a conversation with the table about this particular side being a little more expensive than the others, so it was baffling when it was the only one missing). Also they never checked to see if our table needed anything, we had to flag someone down to get more water, which was weird cause there were only three tables being occupied and there were three servers.
