There's apparently an imaginary policy here at El Guapos that states that they can't remake drinks that THEY mess up. Looked for signs everywhere for this so-called policy .. I haven't yet located it. The bartender/manager Ricardo pretty much treated me and my friends as second class citizens the entire time we were at the bar. He made my margarita blended & I told him I wanted it on the rocks but he stated he already made it and that the policy states he can't remake it ... Granted at first glance he was nothing but welcoming but the second I asked for change in my drink, his attitude changed completely. That speaks volumes about customer service. If you to decide to drink at the bar make sure you double check the preparation of your order or walk away with whatever he decided for you. read more

Went here over the weekend after a night out. We ordered the street chicken tacos, chicken burrito and nachos. I definitely liked the tacos better than the burrito. You have a choice between shredded and grilled. My wife got the nachos which was huge considering we got the 1/2 order of it. Place is basically open table where you order up front, get a buzzer, then find a seating. We luckily found a seating just when we were done ordering. Arrived around 12ish and no host at the front at usual so I thought they had available tables. They had a several empty tables so I went to the counter to order food. When I was making the payment and a girl said that there were no more tables and if I want to do Togo instead. I don't mind to wait for table but I wasn't offered. I was like ok and there were tables that opened up while I was waiting but she didn't care to ask. She just enjoying talking to the one of the table. I ended to have to ask one of the employee of I can seat at the table. She told everyone that came in that it would be 1 hour wait but clearly not even 10 mins and so they all left. Used to live in Campbell and came here yesterday and it's called El Guapo's instead of ChaChos and a whole new vibe! Less of the death-Frieda Kahlo look and more of the look of life! I was skeptical to try their wet burrito special at $7.95 but the cashier convinced me to try cause he just had one. Boy am I glad he did! It really was good! El Guapo's is an easy walk from my house. I particularly like their breakfast burritos, they offer soyrizo burritos and an excellent salsa bar. They have a good drink selection too, a little pricey, but good. The other food I've had there is pretty good, not excellent, but definitely not bad. They're open late, so it's a good option if you're out in the downtown Campbell area, but it's not my first choice if I'm looking for good Mexican food in the area. read more

I went here on a Friday night with some friends for a bite to eat. Crazy busy but worth the wait. Food was awesome and huge portions. Drink menu was very big and a wide variety. Great place. I don't give many five star reviews, but after a few visits I think I can say this place is great. Awesome food, drinks, and I really enjoy the atmosphere with the big open garage doors and patio. They also have pitchers of self serve water so you don't have to wait if you're thirsty after a few drinks. Edit: gotta dock them two stars on their service. Having lunch at El Guapo's with my own handsome boys: my hubby and sons. As transplants from Austin (home of the best tacos anywhere), we've had difficulty finding great tacos in the Bay Area... Omg, YUM. I'm so happy to have found a place that does vegetarian Mexican! Not just bean and cheese, their food has actual vegetables in the vegetarian burrito (what a concept!). Plus they have a very nice variety of sauces, so you can either keep it mild or leave your mouth with a pleasant burn :) We split the Santiago nachos, which were HUGE, and we were full. They were delicious, real cheese, nice pico- highly recommend! The minus star is for the place itself. Being a college joint, this place is crazy noisy and busy all the time. Had a great meal at El Guapo's tonight! Hubby had cheese enchiladas with rice and black beans, I had the blackened shrimp taco and our son had the fajitas! We tore that food up! Some of the best chips in the valley and they have an awesome salsa bar! I also had the Macha Margarita and it was delicious! Hubby had a couple of beers and our son had a spicy cucumber margarita! This place is amazing! I got the carne asada and they tasted just like my mom used to make in mexico! Highly recommend this place it was suprisingly good. The only reason they are not getting five stars is because the wait was a little long but it was lunch time and they were very busy but even so I had to take away a star for that. I've been coming here for years, the best Mexican food in the Campbell area period. They just re-opened and made it super easy to order and pick-up. We got the Cantina meal for 4 people and the portions and sides are huge. For the price, the value is phenomenal! Good food for the fashionistas but don't bring an appetite. First off, it's counter service and the overhead menus are poorly done and difficult to read. I ordered the chile verde and went to sit at the bar. No draft beer. When I asked what the beer selection was, the bartender pointed to a shelf about 20 feet away. Apparently he didn't even know. They offered about ten pilsners and an IPA. Thanks for the selection. They called my name and I picked up my chile verde and went back to the bar. The pork was tasty but not very tender and it wasn't cooked in the verde sauce. The sauce was a rather creamy, bright green and ladled on afterward. It wasn't bad by any means -- but it wasn't like any chile verde I've had. The rice was a little undercooked but otherwise good. The pinto beans were quite good -- whole and not refried. The corn tortillas tasted like the average store-bought tortillas. Overall, the flavor was good and I was happy with it except for one thing -- the portion was so small, I went to get dinner after I left. For me, the great thing about Mexican food is that it is HEARTY. This was a child's serving. I'm not a large person and for that kind of money ($14) I want to leave satisfied. I easily could have eaten two. I'm not sure when it became fashionable to leave your guests hungry but El Guapo's is certainly haute couture. Eat before you visit. read more

This place is a joke, they wouldn't take my WA enhanced ID when I tried to buy drinks cuz they thought it might be fake but gave it back to me and when I went outside to speak to the bouncers about it they backed the bartenders decision BUT still let me into the restaurant to hangout w/ friends when you needed to be 21+ to get into the door. 1. Update the book you check ID's against because starting in 2018 EVERYONE in WA will have to have the enhanced WA ID 2. If you think an ID is fake legally you aren't supposed to give it back to them 3. If you tell someone their ID is not valid and you won't sell them drinks but then you still let them into your 21+ bar then clearly something is wrong with your system read more

Cool spot, I think for drinks and food. I have never actually had drinks here (always order take-out..call it lazy or too tired to cook I would agree to both). But I have had the veggie burrito and it's so so yummy! Rice, grilled veggies (onions, bell peppers and squash) with chunks of avocado and sour cream...feeling hungry yet?! Flat out NASTY!!! What happened to this place? I used to love the decor and the food and now the food quality has fallen to crap. I came in yesterday with some friends to watch the Giants World series and was able to get some seats. I ordered the margarita special which was pretty good, A little on later i decided to order some food. it was Taco tuesday where they have $2 tacos. to make a long story short about 20 minutes later after i ate 3 tacos my stomach started turning and the pain started to kick in my stomach. Honestly, the WORST! I got a shrimp burrito with no cheese, add bell pepper and avocado. (From the girl with the short red hair) When my order arrived, it had not only cheese but also sour cream in it. (I'm lactose intolerant which is why I opted out the cheese in the first place) Then I brought up the burrito to the other girl at the counter and politely voiced my issue with the burrito, so she assured me that they would make me the proper burrito and put it at the front of the line. Well, 45 minutes later, my company is all done eating, I still have NO food or assurance from the counter girl, so I ended up standing at the counter until my order was ready. (I had them 'put it in a bowl' so I could see the entire order) Once I FINALLY got the order, it had NO pico de gallo, OR avocado on it. (which I paid extra for) BASICALLY food wise, never EVER will be returning. Awful service and terrible follow through. Waste of my time and money. I go here all the time and usually enjoy it. But today, Sunday March 23, 2014, at around 2pm, I couldn't wait o leave. My friend and I went to get lunch. We were the ONLY people in line, but we stood there, waiting.....and waiting......and waiting.............and waiting to order. There was some young kid behind the counter with a black beanie who was supposed to be taking orders, but rather than pay attention to us in line waiting and ready to order, he was focused at the tv watching the soccer game. He was staring blankly with his mouth open just glaring at the tv. We were in his sight, and he still didn't notice or acknowledge us. Suddenly it cuts to commercial and he breaks his gaze and sees me in line and says "I can take your order over here." I'm so sorry to break your concentration on the game to make you do your job that someone is paying you to do. Anyway, I order, and I go to my table. My friend took about 3 or 4 minutes to order, and I was wondering what took him so long. When he comes to the table, he was angry and said "dude that kid was staring at the soccer game again and didn't even take my order until I had to say 'yoo hoo! Im ready!'" Unbelievable. So we sit at our tables and I get a phone call that we need to go. So my friend and I get our receipts and wanted to just ask if we could get our food togo so we can take it with us. We went back to the counter where we ordered, but there was nobody there. We looked around and saw that the kid with the black beanie was standing at a table on the other side of the room, staring up at the tv watching the game again. I couldn't believe it and my friend wanted to go over to him and get him over here but I told him not to make a scene. It wasnt until a very nice young lady in a grey sweater and pink Guapos shirt came over and helped us that we were taken care of. She politely checked our receipts and told the kitchen staff to box our food togo. She asked if there was anything else she could do, we said no thank you. She went over to the kid and made him come back to the counter. You could tell she was annoyed, she has probably been babysitting him all day. I actually felt bad for her, the house was packed, the bartenders were busting their asses off so they couldn't help behind the counter, and she probably felt thrown to the wolves with no support. She is a good employee. If it wasn't for her I don't think I'd ever go back to Guapos. We got our food and left and that was that. That young lady needs a raise, and that kid needs to go or get his priorities straight. When you ask to work for a business, you need to earn your pay. Customers come first, not your precious soccer game or anything else on TV. And your coworkers shouldnt have to make you do your job when they have their own duties and a packed house full of customers to take care of themselves. We will be back, but we hope we are taken care of and not come second to the TV's. read more

I had a quick burrito and chips which tasted great but I wish I could have tried some of their drinks that lots of other tables had. This place is my go to for tacos. You can't go wrong during Happy Hour with $2 tacos and $2 margaritas. It gets a bit loud in here when it's crowded, but I think that's part of it's charm. Their fish taco is on the small side, but it's delicious. And the carnitas tacos are the best around. If you like nachos, this is the place for you! The half order of nachos is huge and extremely cheesy. The large order will easily feed four. Drinks are expensive, but they pour well. I went to get street tacos and sangria with a friend on Saturday evening. We were there early about 6pm. The tacos were fantastic and the sangria was an interesting play on the traditional, loved it. The reason for the poor rating is because of CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THE BAR. The wait staff and the folks who took our order were lovely people. The two male bar tenders walked past my friend and I four maybe five times with a less than crowded bar, didn't smile, didn't say they would be with us shortly, nothing. Very unpleasant, finally the lady bartender assisted us. Good food, fun environment, but extremely poor service at the bar.
