Exceptional Food and Service with great atmosphere. All Halal!!! Slow Cooked Barbacoa Costillas (Beef Ribs) were Outstanding!!!! Had to try, coming all the way from Orlando, FL. Thanks Guy Fieri! #Diners Drive-Ins and Dives Did NOT Disappoint ‼‼

Came here from Socal and was looking for interesting halal spots to try. Got the ribs Castillo and it was really good. The meat was super tender and fall of the bone. I agree with some of the other reviews that I wish it was more seasoned, but they did give some sauce which gave it some flavor as well. Super filling for me and I like how they put some meat on the bottom too in addition to the ribs. The place was pretty busy with people going in and out, but service was super fast, got the food in like 5 minutes but I went right when it opened on a weekday lunch Inside its okay, but I do wish they didnt have loud music. They have plenty of seating and seating outside as well.

My boyfriend and I got take-out from this spot that we found on Yelp. We ended up eating there as he wanted to walk around since he's never been to Willow Glen. We sat outside in one of their tables since we had his doggie with us. I got the Narchos while he got the Birria Plate. Both were pretty delish, but I do love his Birria tacos abit more. We also got a couple agua frescas- Jamaica and Horchata. I enjoyed my Horchata drink- it was perfectly sweet and creamy. We would definitely return again. :)

The service from the gentleman working as cashier, on Cinco de Mayo around 12:30, took this review from a 4 star to a 5. If I was only basing it on food alone it would've gotten a 4. The food was fresh and well presented. However, I prefer a bit more flavor, and an $18 burrito, even in 2026, is a bit pricey for my liking. I do like the fact that they offer indoor, and covered outdoor seating, that their chairs are cushioned, and even though it is not a large seating area it isn't crowded.

Pay as you order then the food will be delivered to your table. I realized that I rated them lower than what it really should've been. I just had my hopes up after seeing such great photos via Instagram. Overall, it's not bad, meat were seasoned. The food was good but not outstanding. The extra star is for their halal offering which could be hard to get these days. Especially a Mexican themed halal.

Was really looking forward to this place, came on Sunday Mexico vs England. No line for when I ordered, them being in willow glen I knew price for Mexican food was going to be higher than normal. Was hoping with the price, the quality would have match. This wasn't the case, all the social media post made it look so good. I read reviews that the placed lacked flavor. That wasn't the case for me, felt like things were not made to order. Chili relleno was what I came for. Carne asada wasnt charcoaled and everything else in the burrito felt a day old or just not fresh. Chili relleno wasn't crispy as I hoped. Also please do not cut the burrito unless asked, I think seeing people do the cheese pull is why they order it. Never seen a burrito cut in half when it comes to you. 4/10 - Birria tacos actually were good, not great or award winning but good. 6/10 - Barbacoa Soft tacos and crispy one was meh. If I had to describe it. Just boring. 3/10 - Salas that came with it were good, the green was the best. 5/10 - Half the chips were stale 6/10 - plates and decor was nice 8/10 Staff was average, young kids working the front didn't sound so knowledgeable or confident in their food. Felt like when I ordered I knew I was going to be let down. Back staff were the strong ones. Love the story, respect the halal, maybe I'll be back but I would have to have a good reason to

Just another love post to one of our top faves in all of San Jose! Listen, friends, as a Mexican American, this place is LEGIT. It is like being transported to Mexico City with the amazing food. It's all the authentic flavors of Mexico but without the grease. I am also a health foodie and their kale and sweet potato filling is the bomb.com The staff are fabulous as always- it says so much about this place and that is that they make it with love. The jams playing are always on point and we always leave with our bellies full and happy. I have tried almost everything and it is all absolutely delicious!

I traveled an hour just to try this place and it was worth every mile! The restaurant is spotless and has such a vibrant atmosphere; the music and overall energy brought so much comfort on a rainy day. Service was incredibly quick, and the staff was so attentive, checking on us periodically to make sure we were taken care of. We loved the food so much we finished every single plate! I highly recommend the birria plate, the burrito, and the brisket barbacoa. Also, a great tip for families: on Wednesdays, kids 11 and younger eat free if you order a plate and dine-in. It's the perfect spot for a delicious, welcoming meal, and I'll definitely be making that drive again soon.

Loved the food here. The slow cooked barbacoa costillas plate was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Staff was welcoming and the restaurant had a casual, laid back feel.

Ordered Togo food, waiting inside for my food to be ready. While I was waiting the four workers not cooking my food were standing around eating behind the counter, dipping crackers in Philadelphia cheese. Not washing their hands I also didn't see gloves on anyone. Kind of divey place. Common Mexican food resturant. Nothing is for free, my super burrito to go didn't come with any chip. $18 pricey

I use to love El Hala Amigos and go out of my way from Oakland to dine here. Over the past two years their quality has been slowly declining and today was enough for me to update my review. First off--service and staff are still sweet, kind and attentive as always. This was and is never an issue here. Sadly what really mattered the most was the food and I can almost pinpoint the exact moment things changed--when they removed the mahi mahi from their menu. The mahi mahi was replaced by the grilled shrimp but you also get less of it in your burritos. That was the first strike. Strike two--the mahi mahi was the closest thing you could had gotten to an authentic southern california style burrito. Now the search restarts for an authentic place that can rival SoCal's fish burritos. The final straw for me, was the complimentary chips and salsa. The past couple of times we've been here, they have been absolutely salty. We're talking someone just opening a lid on a salt shaker and pouring the entire thing on the chips. Today's experience was the worse of it because more than 3/4 of the chips were inedible. We even tried wiping each chip down with a napkin hoping to save them but they were sadly past the point of no return. Sad to say this isn't the same El Hala Amigos I fell in love with years ago and this was not the review I wanted to write. Hope you guys figure things out because I would love to return.

    Andrea C.

Unfortunately not what it used to be. The chips were so salty they were basically inedible. This has happened the last two visits. The rice was kind of mushy and bland today in the carne asada burrito which was a bummer. We used to come out here for the fish burrito but they've since gotten rid of it from the menu and the quality and consistency of their food has sadly fallen. I think the food (minus chips) is just decent at best but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here anymore.

Taco Plate with Pollo Al Pastor and Carne Asada
    Ashley J.

I went here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy. The food came out fast. We ate outside which was nice, they have plenty of seating. I got a taco plate with chicken Al pastor and carne asada. The asada was alright, but I wasn't a fan of the chicken. The chips they gave us were really good, but all 3 salsas I tried were pretty bland. I would have given them more stars if 2 orders of taco plates wasn't $40. Not worth that much in my opinion.

That kind of reliability is more rare than it should be, and it's worth calling out. The tacos themselves are the main event. The Carne Asada, Suadero, and Al Pastor are all standouts, but the Al Pastor especially earns its spot. They serve it with pineapple, which is the way it's meant to be done and a detail that tells you they actually care about getting it right. These are easily some of the best tacos in San Jose, and I don't say that lightly given how much competition there is in the South Bay. But the drinks alone might be worth the trip. Their Horchata and Agua Fresca are genuinely among the best I've had anywhere in the Bay Area and that's a real statement in a region with no shortage of excellent options. The salsa bar is a nice bonus: a self-serve setup where you scoop what you want into containers, and they send you off with baggies of fresh cilantro and onion so you can finish the tacos exactly how you like them. They actively encourage you to take plenty, which tells you a lot about the kind of place this is. The staff is warm and welcoming on top of everything else. Truly one of the best taco trucks around. I had a very concerning experience with my order and would like to request a full refund if possible. This was my first time ordering from this restaurant, and unfortunately, the entire experience raised serious concerns about food quality, cleanliness, and possible cross-contamination. I ordered a quesadilla, and from the first bite, something seemed seriously wrong. The tortilla and filling had an overwhelming burnt, extremely charcoal-like aftertaste that made the food taste as though it had been prepared on an extremely dirty or poorly maintained cooking surface. This was not simply a matter of the food being slightly overcooked or having a burnt grill taste the taste was unsanitary and unpleasant. The meat was also excessively fatty and of such poor grade quality that I could barely tolerate the texture or taste. I am generally not someone who complains about meat quality, but the combination of the questionable meat and the strong, dirty taste of the cooking surface made the quesadilla completely inedible. Now here's the more upsetting part: I also ordered two carne asada tacos, but instead received three tacos, including one containing what appeared to be pork intestines or another type of miscellaneous meat that I absolutely did not order. I do not eat pork, and the texture of this meat was slimy and the smell of it was extremely unpleasant. More concerningly, the meat appeared to have come into contact with the carne asada tacos as well. I unfortunately did not inspect the order before taking a bite, so I accidentally bit into the taco containing the unidentified meat. I was immediately nauseated and genuinely felt like I was going to vomit. I attempted to eat the carne asada tacos afterward, but I could taste what appeared to be the same miscellaneous meat mixed into them. I noticed that the tortillas themselves had the same strong burnt, charcoal-like flavor as the quesadilla, which further contributed to my concerns about the cleanliness and condition of the cooking surface. Because the unidentified meat appeared to have contaminated or mixed with the food I actually ordered, I ultimately could not eat any of the tacos. The horchata was another major concern. It had an unusually unpleasant taste that I have never experienced from horchata before. It tasted stale and potentially contaminated, almost as though something unsanitary had come into contact with it. I cannot say exactly what caused the taste, but it was sufficiently abnormal that I did not feel comfortable drinking it. Ultimately, I ate only approximately one bite of the quesadilla and a single bite of each type of taco before throwing the food away. Shortly afterward, my stomach was already growling and I felt extremely uncomfortable. This was not simply a matter of the food not matching my personal taste. I am concerned about the apparent lack of cleanliness, the burnt/dirty taste throughout the food, the unidentified meat being included in an order where it was not requested, and the apparent cross-contact between that meat and the carne asada I ordered. I would strongly encourage the restaurant to review its food-preparation, cooking-surface sanitation, ingredient handling, and order-assembly procedures. I am pretty upset that I ate something I didn't order and have no idea what it is. Given that I was unable to safely or reasonably consume essentially any of my order, I would appreciate a full refund.

I finally decided to give it a try after hearing about the restaurant from food reviewer Dave fiore text. As someone who absolutely loves tacos and is always on the hunt for great local taco spots, I was excited to see how this place compared to some of my favorites. I ordered four different tacos, and overall, they were pretty good. They weren't bad by any means, but they also didn't quite blow me away. The meat was cooked well, the tortillas were fresh, and the tacos had good flavor. The salsa was decent too, although I personally prefer something with a little more kick. Everyone has different tastes, so this is just my opinion. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and organized the restaurant was. You can tell they take pride in keeping the dining area nice and welcoming. The staff was friendly, and my food came out quickly. It's always a good sign when a restaurant pays attention to both cleanliness and customer service. I've eaten at a lot of taco places throughout the Bay Area, so I naturally compare every new place to some of my favorites. While El Halal Mexican Restaurant didn't make the top of my list, I still had a good experience and I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. Not every restaurant has to be your favorite to be worth visiting. I also like supporting family-owned businesses because I know how much hard work goes into running a local restaurant. They deserve credit for creating a clean, welcoming place and serving quality food. Will I come back? Maybe. If I do, I'd probably try something different on the menu instead of the tacos. Sometimes a restaurant's best dish isn't the first thing you order, and I'd be interested in seeing what else they have to offer. Overall, I'd give El Halal Mexican Restaurant a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It was a good experience, I'm happy I finally got to try it, and if you're in the Willow Glen area, it's worth stopping by and deciding for yourself.
