I read an article from KQED several weeks ago and have been meaning to try this place since. I finally had an opportunity today and it did not disappoint st all. In fact it surpassed any expectations. I entered the restaurant and was immediately greeted by a woman who was sweeping up and asked if I needed help with the menu or was okay to use the electronic ordered. I wanted to make a slight substitution to one of the burritos and she quickly showed me how. The restaurant was small and minimal but clean and comfortable. We ordered the barbacoa super burrito and A La Suiza De Pollo to go. Both were packed with flavor and nicely sized. The barbacoa was particularly tasty and moist. The best Ive ever had. My partner and I both loved the small bag of chips and the small container of salsa that's included had a depth of flavor rarely, if ever, found in these extras. When paying for the food, J showed the woman the article and asked if it was her. She confirmed and we had a nice exchange before leaving. A+ service and food. If you're looking for something casual, authentic and delicious, with ambience & prices that that fall between your basic hole-in-the-wall taqueria and those "fancy Mexican" sit-down places, Cuco's Burritos is freakin' legit! Their recipes deliver amazing flavors, and they use ultra high quality ingredients including handmade tortillas. Reasonable prices, generous portions, locally family-owned with a long history in the Bay Area. They've just opened their new San Jose location after many successful years running their Redwood City location... I went to their SJ grand opening a couple of months ago and was hooked. I grew up on the Mexican border and have eaten at plenty of Mexican restaurants on both sides of the border, as well as restaurants in the interior of Mexico that are off the tourist-beaten path. I've even enjoyed many home-cooked meals at kitchen tables in Mexico. What I'm saying is that I know the difference between great, fresh, authentic Mexican flavors and the mediocre to "good enough" Mexican food you can find anywhere around here, made with inconsistent recipes, cheap or canned ingredients, Costco tortillas & bulk chips, etc. All that said, Cuco's is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! I think this is the best carne asada burrito I've ever eaten! Meat is tender with a hearty delicious sauce, rice and whole beans are perfectly cooked and the entire burrito was pan toasted which added structural integrity to offset the juicy filling. Chips and salsa are complimentary, the chips are house-made with just the right amount of salt and the salsa is well balanced. We ate in the dining room, it's cozy, spotless and has a lovely welcoming ambiance. There's patio dining as well. Service was awesome, warm and very attentive. Menu has a full page of vegetarian and vegan options which my dining partner appreciated, we're looking forward to our next visit! read more

Located in East San Jose, parking is plentiful and easy to find. There's plenty of indoor seating. Service is great. Water is shortly after you're sat and yes chips and salsa. The bathroom is clean and there's also corn hole in the back too which was cool. Al Pastor Burrito (5/5): so freaking delicious. The meat was tender and juicy. The pineapple caught me by surprise but very unique. The wrap and overall presentation was perfect. Mild had a good kick Tap to pay is accepted. With the last establishment closing and Cucos revamping what used to be Tacos El Rancherito, my sister and I eagerly made the 10 minute walk to check them out. The vibrant colors of the signage and building are long gone, leaving us with a more tamed look with black bold letterings. The interior is spacious- still offering patio seating along with interior accommodations. The menu offerings are good but don't leave you excessively overwhelmed. Here you will find breakfast, tacos, burritos, & quesadillas. Extra points for Cucos' vegetarian & vegan options. Dinner for 2 included: *Bottled Mexicoke *Cafe De Olla *Barbacoa Taco *Asada Taco x2 *Pastor Taco x2 *Pollo Taco *Chips Y Salsa [complimentary] Food is good. The house-made chips are probably some of the best I've had- somehow lowkey resembling Fritos corn chips?? These babies aren't your average basic tortilla chips, there is extra love and care being put out to make these- see pics for actual seasonings dusted on top. The tacos are small in size but perfect IMO. Meat vs tortilla ratio is great and you aren't being served cheap, fatty cuts of protein. I left here completely satisfied without feeling sick or too heavy due to oiliness. Meats were cooked well aside from the chicken being dry. This was my first time having cafe de olla & man was I blown away. Who would have thought a cup of coffee could taste so damn good? Having said that, the coffee was sweeter than I preferred. Be advised that the sweetness cannot be adjusted due to the coffee being premade. Cucos Burritos comes highly recommended due to the convenient location, the authentic-ness of the food [from an Asian's standpoint], not leaving you uncomfortable & regretting life's decisions that sometimes occur when you dining @ certain businesses. I'm a HUGE fan of the Redwood City location of Cuco's and I've had it over 15 times, so I was absolutely delighted to see that they expanded to San Jose and I'm super happy for them. I've tried their super burritos, California burrito, breakfast burrito, tacos, etc. Everything is fantastic but my usual go-to is the super burrito with carne asada. Their burritos have some of best presentation I've seen - beautifully and perfectly wrapped every single time. The ingredients go so well together in the burrito and pack a punch of flavor every time. The tortilla is extremely fresh and probably one of the best I've had and really sets them apart. Service was amazing, they checked in on us during the meal and were super warm and friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating both available. Clean and beautifully decorated as well. I have tried a couple of their burritos and quesadillas. The chile verde de puerco quesadillas is very tasty with balanced flavors. Added extra avocado and potato strips to o spice the food. Complement with a drink of iced horchata latte and sweet dessert pieces of Chocoflan. read more

This place just opened down the street from the public library where I work. My waist line is in big trouble. The food is delicious. The salsa is delicious. The chips are house made with an interesting seasoning. The food is tasty. Most importantly, family owned and I would be surprised to read a review that they treated a customer poorly on purpose. Cucos Burritos definitely hits the spot serving authentic Mexican burritos just had their grand opening day last month. Was going down there last weekend until I saw a long line of people waiting by the door. Came by on a Friday morning which seems to be the best time greeted very warmly by the staff employee. Looking over the menu I chose a regular size tofurizo burrito a healthier vegan alternative to pork chorizo full of beans, rice, salsa sauce, cheese, onions, tofu seasoned with bold spices along with a cup of olla a traditional Mexican spiced coffee brewed in a clay pot. So glad to dine-in server brought over a tortilla chips a cup of salsa and a pitcher of water and cup no need for refill. I was blown away when she brought over the burrito nicely wrapped more like super size with generous portions OMG it's enough for two people they were so kind and very attentive definitely a place for authentic Mexican meals. First time here. Was working nearby and always like to try different burrito/Mexican spots. Luckily I did! This place was easily top 3 best burritos I've ever had. Hands down. Presentation was great. Came all tucked and very neatly rolled up with half of it exposed on a little tray. Chips and salsa free with meal and came in neat little dishes. Staff super friendly and music was a vibe! Inside and out is very clean and inviting. When the lady came and asked how everything was I responded with "this has got to be easily one of the best dam burritos I've ever had!" We were craving burritos and noticed a new spot opened up where El Rancherito used to be. The interior was pretty clean, organized with a flyer that included the restaurants history in Spanish. There weren't any patrons walking in, but the man at the front was friendly and welcoming. We noticed there was a lot of variety on the menu including vegetarian options. I got the carne asada super burrito with medium hot sauce. It did take awhile to get our food as they were fulfilling online orders -- we noticed several people coming in to pick up food. We finally got ours to go and I thoroughly enjoyed my burrito! The carne asada was flavorful and tender. Everything included in the burrito came in a good ratio and was well wrapped. It was a good sized burrito for $13! I do have to mention they included complimentary tortilla chips but they were really stale and hard to bite into. This is the place to go in San Jose for some fantastic Mexican burritos! We ordered two breakfast burritos: an aporreadillo burrito with mild salsa and a tofurizo burrito with spicy salsa. Both were absolutely delicious! We sat down and were given chips and salsa on the house. The filtered water was also great--no weird taste. The chips and salsa were perfectly spicy, just the right amount of kick. We also ordered one alpastor taco and two blue corn sopes with alpastor. They were small but incredibly delicious and filling. For drinks, we had a hot cafe de olla and an iced horchata latte. The cafe de olla was really good, coming in second place to our favorite cafe de olla from Luna's Mexican restaurant. The restaurant was clean, had a great ambiance, and played great music. It has both indoors and outdoors seating, so you could choose your seating preference. It looks small from the outside, but it's actually quite spacious inside. Two separate individual restrooms located on the side of building outside. They are small but beautifully decorated and clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. We're definitely coming back again and bringing our loved ones! ! read more

Stopped by to get dinner. As someone who's lived in the neighborhood for years, I've seen a few different restaurants in this location. I saw online that they have vegan and vegetarian options. If you know San Jose, it's very hard to find good vegetarian Mexican food. When we walked in the guy behind the counter asked if we had been in before. He took the time to explain the menu and the vegan options. Our order consisted if a super barbacoa burrito, vegetariano con mole burrito and a shrimp chipotle mole burrito. My barbacoa burrito was stuffed with meat.(Shocking considering the price of meat).it actually had more meat than rice and beans The other burritos came wet. The veggie burrito had a sweet mole sauce. It was slightly spicy slightly sweet, we were told we could get it more spicy. The shrimp chipotle was too hot for me, but my wife didn't mind. Inside there's seating available. For a old looking building, everything was clean and new looking inside. My only problem was it was kinda hot inside. All I gotta say is, this place over exceeded my expectations. I checked out their yelp in Redwood City and they looked good but tasted even better in person. I got a regular carne Asada Burrito and i just gotta say that they really perfected this burrito. The texture of the tortilla was amazing and the balance within the burrito was spot on. The chips were house made and the seasoning was perfect. The owners brother and whole staff was extremely friendly, probably one of the nicest customer service I've ever had.
