Mixed feelings about this burrito; read on to learn what worked (for me) and what didn't. Obviously, the presentation is excellent. Taking the extra time to grill the burrito (on both sides!) adds a slight depth of flavor and some much needed structural integrity to the burrito. Inside, there was a generous portion of al pastor with the ingredients well-dispersed throughout. I had them add the spiciest salsa to my burrito and I was definitely feeling the burn. On the topic of the salsas, they were also a highlight. All three of their salsas have an intensely savory quality to them, reminiscent of chicken bouillon or msg. The medium salsa looks like it's a combination of tomatillos and chile árbol, whereas the spicy salsa looks to be much heavier on the árbol and the mild salsa has almost none at all. The mild salsa is definitely missing something, with the most prominent flavor being the most dominant flavor. If you can handle spice, I highly recommend the medium, and if you really like it to burn the spicy salsa is great too but I would honestly recommend you have it on the side and not in your burrito. So... if there are so many highlights, why is this only a 3 star burrito? For me... it was the meat. The al pastor is tender but they go heavy on the pineapple and it tends to come in larger chunks than I think work in a burrito format. The pineapple flavor is so strong I couldn't determine if the al pastor was even seasoned well, and it was hard to notice other flavors in the burrito. Ultimately, this a stylistic choice rather than inherently a flaw but it's not my preferred style of al pastor. I really enjoyed the other elements of this burrito so I 100% will be coming back and trying asada or carnitas. They also have an expansive menu of specialty burritos and breakfast burritos that I'm definitely interested in trying as well. This spot is definitely worth your time, but maybe pass on the Al pastor unless you like a LOT of pineapple. read more

We ended up placing an online order for pickup and got the following items: * Al pastor California burrito - this burrito was massive yet delicious. So flavorful. The Al pastor was a little bit sweeter than I wanted and I wish the fries were a little crispier but overall the burrito was yummy * de chipotle burrito - this came with pulled chicken and this creamy chipotle sauce which was delicious. Have seen Cuco's take over this little spot for a few months now and finally stopped by! Definitely one of the best burritos I've had since moving back home!! I've actually never walked into this restaurant spot for as long as I remember, but it's such a cute place and it's nearby me. Love how they decorated the interior and included information on Cuco's history. Pretty quick ordering and service too. Ordering is pretty convenient, you can use the ordering kiosk and they include all the ingredients per menu item. We got the carne asada super burrito and al pastor super burrito. Both included the choice of protein, choice of beans (black beans, pinto, or refried) monterey jack cheese, rice, pico de gallo, avocado sauce, sour cream, and spicy sauce (on the side is available). Everything is pretty customizable so you can take out certain ingredients if you don't like it. Came with salsa and chips on the side! Super good flavors for both, I found actual pineapple pieces for the al pastor and that's 10/10 for me. I got mild spicy on the side and it's this refreshing green sauce!!! With the last establishment closing and Cucos revamping what used to be Tacos El Rancherito, my sister and I eagerly made the 10 minute walk to check them out. Located in East San Jose, parking is plentiful and easy to find. There's plenty of indoor seating. Service is great. Water is shortly after you're sat and yes chips and salsa. Excellent customer service. I got my chips and drink relatively fast after ordering from the kiosk. Since the place is fairly small they didn't have any marker for what I ordered, but they still got it right. Ambiance is a good crossover between Downtown Saratoga old house aesthetic and grimy east side old house construction. It's clean but not incredibly fancy. I have m i x e d feelings about the food. On one hand, I know that specific regions of mexican food reign supreme in the bay, so that type of mexican food is what I'm used to. What I'm trying to get to is, this place is good, but don't expect it to replace your favorite go-to burrito. The first time I went here I got the California Burrito, the potatoes were freshly cut and slightly pan fried. Cooked but not cooked enough, kind of the consistency of Chinese potato salad. Not a fan. Also the Tortilla is strong and thin, but exceptionally huge. They melt the cheese directly on the tortilla so the tortilla has integrity but feels incredibly thick. I don't hate it but I know I don't like it. The second time I came here I got the La Chimi. It was not fried enough to warrant feeling like I was eating a chimichanga. If you order this, don't expect the pastry like crunch you typically get with a deep fried chimichanga. Those are the negatives out of the way, slightly nitpicky but I order a California burrito for the potatoes and I order a chimichanga for the fried tortilla. The positives? Everything else was fantastic. The meat had excellent char, the salsa and mole was spiced and full of robust flavor. The beans were great and the rice was cooked well. Everything was fresh and you can tell that this is someone's favorite burrito place because of how clean this place feels. I ordered some tacos and they were excellent. Clean and no frills. Some weird spic balance changes that I'm not used to but I know someone else prefers. I will come around to try this place again every so often, it's not the best burrito in town, but it feels like a place you can bring your friend to if they're okay with being in this part of San Jose. read more

I'm a HUGE fan of the Redwood City location of Cuco's and I've had it over 15 times, so I was absolutely delighted to see that they expanded to San Jose and I'm super happy for them. I've tried their super burritos, California burrito, breakfast burrito, tacos, etc. Everything is fantastic but my usual go-to is the super burrito with carne asada. Their burritos have some of best presentation I've seen - beautifully and perfectly wrapped every single time. The ingredients go so well together in the burrito and pack a punch of flavor every time. The tortilla is extremely fresh and probably one of the best I've had and really sets them apart. I've had a helluva time finding a taqueria that satisfies my vegetarian needs and my husband's carnivorous appetite that is also not a 40+ minute round trip in SJ at dinner time. Cucos is that spot for me. I only wish they were open later. They have a full vegetarian/vegan section and I confirmed that the beans (all the bean options) and rice are vegetarian. The woman who answered my call was so kind answering all my questions. They have so many options, not just the basic. They have 2 kinds of tofu! And other options like fajita veggies and spinach/mushrooms. So far I've had the vegan, the California, and the one with mole and have been satisfied with all of them. My hubs is happy getting his basic "taqueria" style every time, but they have a lot of interesting looking meaty options too. The mini burrito is the perfect size for little hands. I've even enjoyed many home-cooked meals at kitchen tables in Mexico. Was going down there last weekend until I saw a long line of people waiting by the door. Came by on a Friday morning which seems to be the best time greeted very warmly by the staff employee. Looking over the menu I chose a regular size tofurizo burrito a healthier vegan alternative to pork chorizo full of beans, rice, salsa sauce, cheese, onions, tofu seasoned with bold spices along with a cup of olla a traditional Mexican spiced coffee brewed in a clay pot. So glad to dine-in server brought over a tortilla chips a cup of salsa and a pitcher of water and cup no need for refill. I was blown away when she brought over the burrito nicely wrapped more like super size with generous portions OMG it's enough for two people they were so kind and very attentive definitely a place for authentic Mexican meals. The chips are house made with an interesting seasoning. The food is tasty. Most importantly, family owned and I would be surprised to read a review that they treated a customer poorly on purpose. I read an article from KQED several weeks ago and have been meaning to try this place since. I finally had an opportunity today and it did not disappoint st all. In fact it surpassed any expectations. I entered the restaurant and was immediately greeted by a woman who was sweeping up and asked if I needed help with the menu or was okay to use the electronic ordered. I wanted to make a slight substitution to one of the burritos and she quickly showed me how. The restaurant was small and minimal but clean and comfortable. We ordered the barbacoa super burrito and A La Suiza De Pollo to go. Both were packed with flavor and nicely sized. The barbacoa was particularly tasty and moist. The best Ive ever had. My partner and I both loved the small bag of chips and the small container of salsa that's included had a depth of flavor rarely, if ever, found in these extras. When paying for the food, J showed the woman the article and asked if it was her. She confirmed and we had a nice exchange before leaving. A+ service and food. First review was AMAZINGGGGGG. Which makes sense. The owner and her brother were there.Yet, our second visit (no owner no brother). They fell vicitim to every other taqueria in the area... mediocre service, mediocre food. It was so so so good on the first visit. But now it's just an over priced place. Lunch was 75$. Save your money and just go to Taco Bell. But if you are there for some reason, at least ask if the owner is there so she can regulate that the food doesn't suck. This is the place to go in San Jose for some fantastic Mexican burritos! We ordered two breakfast burritos: an aporreadillo burrito with mild salsa and a tofurizo burrito with spicy salsa. Both were absolutely delicious! We sat down and were given chips and salsa on the house. The filtered water was also great--no weird taste. The chips and salsa were perfectly spicy, just the right amount of kick. We also ordered one alpastor taco and two blue corn sopes with alpastor. They were small but incredibly delicious and filling. For drinks, we had a hot cafe de olla and an iced horchata latte. The cafe de olla was really good, coming in second place to our favorite cafe de olla from Luna's Mexican restaurant. The restaurant was clean, had a great ambiance, and played great music. It has both indoors and outdoors seating, so you could choose your seating preference. It looks small from the outside, but it's actually quite spacious inside. Two separate individual restrooms located on the side of building outside. Stopped by to get dinner. As someone who's lived in the neighborhood for years, I've seen a few different restaurants in this location. I saw online that they have vegan and vegetarian options. If you know San Jose, it's very hard to find good vegetarian Mexican food. When we walked in the guy behind the counter asked if we had been in before. He took the time to explain the menu and the vegan options. Our order consisted if a super barbacoa burrito, vegetariano con mole burrito and a shrimp chipotle mole burrito. My barbacoa burrito was stuffed with meat.(Shocking considering the price of meat).it actually had more meat than rice and beans The other burritos came wet. The veggie burrito had a sweet mole sauce. It was slightly spicy slightly sweet, we were told we could get it more spicy. The shrimp chipotle was too hot for me, but my wife didn't mind. Inside there's seating available. For a old looking building, everything was clean and new looking inside. My only problem was it was kinda hot inside. We were craving burritos and noticed a new spot opened up where El Rancherito used to be. The interior was pretty clean, organized with a flyer that included the restaurants history in Spanish. There weren't any patrons walking in, but the man at the front was friendly and welcoming. We noticed there was a lot of variety on the menu including vegetarian options. I got the carne asada super burrito with medium hot sauce. It did take awhile to get our food as they were fulfilling online orders -- we noticed several people coming in to pick up food. We finally got ours to go and I thoroughly enjoyed my burrito! The carne asada was flavorful and tender. Everything included in the burrito came in a good ratio and was well wrapped. It was a good sized burrito for $13! I do have to mention they included complimentary tortilla chips but they were really stale and hard to bite into.
