First time ordering from here and it was not good at all. I ordered the Papas Con Chorizo, that should have egg, cheese and chorizo, I added bacon. They had egg whites instead of scrambled eggs and no cheese. Was looking for a quick place to eat on the way to the airport. Found this taco shop. My friends and I got a mix of tacos and sushi. We were weary of the sushi initially since this seemed more like a taco shop but my friends said the sushi was good. I got the mix of 4 street tacos and a birria queso taco. What a dream come true this place serves tacos and sushi!!! Went yesterday (10/11/24) around 330pm and it was really dead but I'm sure once everyone gets off work this place is packed! It's also very clean and soooo many tables! Even an outside patio. I got the 4 taco plate with pastor, green dragon and caterpillar roll. I did get them to go as well and didnt wait long either. I'm sure if I had eaten there, the rolls would have been a 10/10! I was a little skeptical about the sushi but even when I got home, delicious! Everything I've eaten here I've enjoyed. It's not the all time best Mexican food , but it's damn good and decent price. The birria burrito, birria quesadilla, birria tacos, steak quesadilla, and chorizo breakfast burrito have all been great. Tacos & Sushi... Yeah, I struggled with that idea given the location but with us cravin tacos and looking for something new, we decided to give it a shot. Didn't realize how big this spot was and it was busy with a lot of pick-up/takeout orders. The menu is a bit overwhelming at first but then as you start ordering things it all comes together. We had a couple of Carne Asada Burritos, Birria tacos, Carne Asada Fries, Carne Asada Nachos, and the El Jefe Box. Yeah, we ordered a lot but my cousin wanted to take the El Jefe box on their flight to share with another friend. I like the quick service as the food is prepared. The downside for me was the cheese sauce on the Nachos... I was expecting real cheese and this was some that liquid out of the can type cheese that will give you the BG's later!!! Overall, food was great. TVs were on for MNF. Next time I may venture for some sushi, but I wasn't really feeling it this time around. What a lucky surprise that I found El Jefe Tacos! I had no idea that it was move in weekend at ASU when we went to "Taco Male Juveniles" shop next to campus. Dejected that the shop was super busy. We pull out of the parking lot and pull over to search for another taco shop on my Yelp app! Luckily enough we found this Jem a little over two miles away! They are a bit hidden in the strip mall. We walk in and are greeted by a very nice employee who talked us through their menu. I ordered the steak, egg and potato breakfast burrito and my wife ordered the chicken rolled taquitos! This is an informal counter-order quick-service place. Come for a casual time out and decent tacos. I got a birria taco, a birria quesotaco, and a birria burrito, plus guacamole and pinto beans on the side. I didn't see any difference in size or ingredients between the taco and quesotaco, which was odd. The food was good, a bit too oily and salty for me, but still, very satisfying. However, the California burrito was a disappointment. It had barely any guacamole, the cheese was cold and unmelted, and the burrito itself was barely warm. El Jefe Tacos is one of the few spots that has carne asada fries near me which was a deciding factor in ordering from them. The first time we ordered, we ordered through a third party website and the prices were $1-2 more/item, which is to be expected. Imagine how silly I felt when I realized this! You can now order online on their website! The carne asada fries are packaged separately; the fries/carne in one box, and all of the toppings separately. A bonus if you don't want soggy fries, but less so if you weren't expecting to do it yourself or you're lazy like me lol. There's a generous portion of a good sized fries (not standard shoestring fries but not as thick as steak cut- somewhere in between) but not enough carne asada. I was able to turn the 1 order of carne asada fries into 2 meals but I felt like I was eating more fries and had to portion the carne scarcely. The carne itself is on the better end of carne asada I've had, albeit fatty. The toppings came in 1 tiny container each of pico, sour cream, and green guacamole/salsa. I'm sure you can request additional containers but it's hard to know to ask that if you are ordering for the first time/someone else is picking up for you. There was a generous bigger container of nacho cheese but I'm not a fan; I'd rather have shredded cheese. Bf ordered a side of guacamole for $2.99 and there was a generous portion of chips and a 2oz (?) guacamole cup. Not bad for the price when you realize it was only $2.99 but I'd love to see a bigger side of guacamole for a little more. read more

Let me preface this by saying this was an Uber Eats experience, not in restaurant dining. I ordered the family meal with carne asada and grilled chicken. I don't know what size family they are feeding but 6 of us couldn't finish the meal in one sitting. The inflated Uber Eats price was $39.99 which still was really a bargain The meal came with a pound of each meat, red salsa, cilantro, 30 tortillas, green avocado sauce (not guac) and onions, each packed in 1 pint containers. The meat was tender and not dry at all. The asada was especially good. The salsa was mild and the avocado sauce (I'm not sure what they call it) was delicious. We went out and bought sour cream, cheese and tortilla chips and made nachos with the leftovers. Just as delicious as the first round. I definitely recommend El Jefe, it was a great way to feed the whole family. Next time I'm in town, I'd like to stop by the restaurant and try more off of their menu. read more
