This place is amazing!!! Every time I've been here every food I've eaten! The people are so friendly and the service is excellent! The hooka is perfect and the Moroccan wine is a must! The 5 course is the perfect share for 2 and I highly recommend the shrimp kabab though my friends all say the lamb is the best. The atmosphere is so fun and the belly dancing is so much fun they really incorporate the audience. Everything is perfectly cooked and honestly some of the best Moroccan food I've had. Go here!!! The negative reviews are seriously missing out. The service doesn't have the same flow as other restaurants, but that's by design, they want you to relax and enjoy your time there if you want things done more quickly you just have to ask and they are happy and quick to accommodate. This place was absolutely beautiful inside--covered in rugs, pillows, and vibrant colors that made it feel like you'd stepped out of San Francisco and into another world. The whole space felt so authentic and immersive. I found $18 parking a little down the street at a nearby hotel (as long as you leave before midnight), which worked out perfectly. We ordered a few things to share--the hummus was really good, and the salad with lemon was super fresh and light. The kebabs were also delicious, though I didn't eat too many since I was in a nice dress and the tables were more Moroccan-style--low with bowls rather than full tables--so it wasn't the easiest to cut the meat. The atmosphere was lively and fun, with groups of people and even private rooms around the space. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded, but my friend stayed later and said it picked up as the night went on--they even had karaoke at one point! There was also a belly dancer, which added to the vibe, though I think having a more professional performer who connects better with the music would really elevate the experience. Loved the lentil soup, eggplant salad was great, tomato and bell pepper salad was good, vegetarian bastilla was very good (though it definitely had a more dessert vibe), and the shrimp tagine was excellent! I went to this spot for dinner last night (Thursday) in a group of 5. We were expecting the belly dancing show but found out later they only do shows Friday and Saturday night. The place was pretty empty, there was only one or two other tables with people. There was also no music playing for the first half of our dinner so the place was a little quiet. The food overall was pretty good. I shared the 5 course meal with my partner and there was more than enough food and we had leftovers. My favorite dish by far was the first vegetarian course with salads and hummus, and the lentil soup. The bread that came with it was amazing too! We had two chicken entrees that tasted good, but were sweeter than what we're used to with savory dishes. The tea and baklava was excellent. We got the margarita pitcher ($65) which was enough for 4 of us to have 3 drinks each. We also tried the strawberry hookah (my first time!) and it was light and fun to try! Overall I enjoyed the food, drinks and hookah. I was expecting the place to be a little more livelier but maybe we should've gone on a Friday or Saturday night. A little bit of Morroco in San Francisco is a prefect place to celebrate with family and friends a birthday, anniversary or engagement. We have been to Marrakesh celebrating my wife's birthday a decade early and had fond memories and a great time. This past Friday on Halloween weekend we chose to celebrate our son's 18th birthday and try to embarrass him with dancing with a. Belly dancer! We were a group of 5 and had our own private seating area. My father-in-law usually travels on a scooter or wheelchair, but I called ahead to make sure they could accommodate him. Not a problem. The staff was extremely friendly, hospitable, fun and kind during our evening. My wife ordered "family style" which was more than enough appetizers, entree and desserts for all---very authentic and delicious as we had remembered. We began with Cocktails and then were served hummus, eggplant and other Morrocan items. Our beautiful entree included a feast of chicken kebabs, lamb, beef, turnips, carrots and cocusus platter. The served very fresh crusty bread and baklava. We arrived at 7 pm and watched the belly dancer preform wonderfully. Since the restaurant was accommodating, they served our son's birthday cake and sang "Happy Birthday" with style. Moreover, the staff played some of his favorite rap music and he had a special personal performance with the 2nd belly dancer which made our evening (remember his Mom wanted to embarrass him) and his 18th birthday special. If you are in San Francisco and look for a very special meal and entertainment I highly recommend Marrakesh. It's adjacent to the San Francisco Hilton and garage parking is across the street. Went to this place on Saturday evening and they delivered on every single level. I can't remember the last time that has happened at a restaurent. We got there in time for the second belly dance show of the evening and throughly enjoyed it. Sumaiya isn't just a good dancer but also knows how to draw people in to participate. Service was more than excellent. Rami and Eleanor were both attentive, efficient and really made our whole dinner experience wonderful. Bashir who was manning the show was a lot of fun with his jokes and his drum playing added flavor to the night. The decor is definitely a bit dated and so are the restrooms (they are clean though), but I feel like that adds a bit of character to this space that lets you time travel to old Morocco. And last but not the least, the most important part of the dinner, the food! I am not sure how the chef did this, but our entrees and the chicken Bastilla were superb. We ordered the Chicken Kamama and the chicken Tagine and both were perfectly made. The meat was fork tender and the flavors could not be more balanced. We came here for my birthday celebrations. We didn't have a reservation so were asked to wait for 30 minutes for a table. We started with a few tequila shots (extremely expensive -$15/shot). For food we started with the bastilla and hummus platters. Bastilla was too sweet and hummus was decent. Then came the entrees, lamb and chicken couscous and veggie tagine. Food was below average- very dry and no taste at all. Avoid food here if you can. What i liked was the ambience- they had a belly dancing artist who was great. Great music and amazing vibe. My friends and I came here after our New Years party. It was about 1am and everyone wanted to smoke hookah and eat. It was not that packed but service was super slow. We got seated and it took 45 mins to get our hookah and an hour or more for our food. We ordered a hummus plate that did not come with pita breads. We also ordered chicken and lamb shish Kabobs. They only had one belly dancer the entire night and once she comes out the music volume is raised pretty high. The time it took to get a plate of hummus and our hookah was another 30 mins. It was really annoying trying to get anyone's attention here. The place looked super worn down they need a renovation... of the place itself & their employees! I want to mention that their hookah was terrible - not because it was tobacco free - I have had really good tobacco free hookah before - but it just sucked. I was here recently and have to say the experience was pretty terrible... I was looking forward to a great evening, but the service was really bad. The food was good and the dance performance was entertaining, but it was hard to ignore the bad service. We were greeted upon entering and promptly seated. My guest and I opted for the multi-course evening dinner. Throughout the evening the servers had a fairly aloof attitude and didn't really seem to show any care when it came to service. Rather than clearing space for additional food as it arrived, they would just leave empty plates and bowls on the table. We were never asked if we were enjoying the food/experience. When they did clear the plates at the end of the evening, it was sloppy experience, with one the servers dropping utensils on the tables and floor, but with no apology...it just really seemed like they didn't care. The food ranged from average to very good. The appetizers were okay, but not necessarily memorable. We ordered two entrees and they were enjoyable: the Chicken Tagine and Chicken with Almonds and Honey. The chicken dishes arrived very tender and both dishes were spiced/seasoned very well. Since there was a lot of food I asked for some boxes to take home...several boxes were sloppily put together with sauce already dripping inside the bag - I ended up giving the food away to someone hungry just outside of the restaurant. I think I was really surprised since I rarely have terrible service in San Francisco, but this was the worst I'd had in a while. Restaurant managers should really take the time to teach staff how to be warm and hospitable since customers are looking for a unique experience, especially in a place like this where it includes a show. The food was so bland and I asked for hot sauce. No one in our group liked the food. It was dark, dingy and disgusting. There is a belly dancing show at 8 pm but it was ok. Also, when we paid for the bill, they said their credit card machine was not working and if we could pay by cash. We were like no as this is a business expense. The food being pricey is somewhat expected I'd say considering, but from what I tasted from someone else's dish the veggies were ok. Maybe this type of food just isn't my style. Trying to pour everyone's cup of water in a large group one by one didn't really seemed to be a good practice honestly. Just leave us with pitchers of water. We're adults, we can handle it, and will appreciate you more for it. Food also takes a while to come out, we flagged servers down a few times to get things because they were either not around or sitting for a while with another group. There were only two other groups aside from ours so the lack of service is quite noticeable. If you've never experienced before it might be worthwhile to check out though. I'm not sure I have ever seen a place with reviews that were more polarized to the extremes. Most of the complaints are that it took forever, service was slow, etc. Know what you're getting into. As soon as you open the menu it says that you're going to experience a slow paced experience, so it's not supposed to be In N Out. We stopped in on a Monday night and there was a girl up front who was mostly on her phone, but got us in and seated right away, so no real issue with her. There were 2 other small groups and one large one and yet the service was great, the gentleman who was taking care of everyone was very attentive and refilled our water and tea regularly and made a good recommendation of a Moroccan beer that I enjoyed a great deal (Casa, it was called). We did the whole meal, and I am not a fan of lentils, but the soup was surprisingly good, the hummus was great, and man, they also brought out a salad of diced bell pepper and tomatoes that was among the best things I have ever eaten. So simple, but incredible. We got the lamb and the hare, and both were divine, and came in very generous portions. Music was lively without being too loud, and the whole environment and atmosphere was great. My only issues was that their website says they have belly dancing 7 days a week, with shows at 8 and 10:30. We came by at 7, figuring we would be there a while and get to see the show. It was about 9 when we left, and there was never a belly dancer. Now that isn't why we went, but it was a small piece that would have made the experience more vivid, but we were honestly very happy with the food and service and will surely be back. read more

The hummus here is some of the best I've ever eaten; delicious. Our group of ten or so came for a birthday dinner on a Friday night. Moroccan music played live on traditional instruments, looped by a single DJ, began as lively fun, with a fabulous belly dancer taking the floor and inviting diners to join her, became increasingly loud enough that many of our group had to quickly leave before tea and dessert.
