Let me start by saying that El Paisa is the worst place ever. On Wednesday the 12th of May my family and I went to eat there. We were the first ones to order then like ten people started coming in, We order tacos and horchata. The horchata tasted like cantaloupe water. The people who were in line behind us got their order before us and left. When they called us to pick up our food we noticed that the food was cold, I went and told the lady who was dispensing the orders about our food being cold and she replied " y que chingados quiere". I had no idea what to expect when driving through new Mexico, but upon seeing the favorable reviews here, my friend and I decided to stop in before a long drive back to Denver. We made the right choice. El Paisa is always the right choice. I'm sure of it. After parking our car, we marveled at how many Mexican joints we'd seen. We decided we'd still come to El Paisa because everyone who came here seemed so happy. Upon seeing the outdoor covered seating area and the menu, I remarked to my friend that this place had to be delicious. And it was. We ordered barbacoa, asada, and carnitas tacos and a mole burrito per seeing a couple yelp reviews. The asada and the carnitas were the bomb. The mole was delicious too, but I'm not sure if mole is totally my thing. It was quite delicious though. The carnitas and asada were there greatest for forever. And the salsa? So much greatness. The red ones were great and the green was amazing--not the most spicy I've ever had with tacos, but was still fantastic. They definitely have limited English, but really, English isn't what you want from a great taco/Mexican joint. And there was a dude playing an acoustic guitar and singing Spanish songs outside, so that felt great, too. And a random kitty wandered around, whom my friend found adorable. So ambience? On point. To be honest, the saddest part of the whole experience was that I couldn't try more things on the menu. The tostadas, the rest of the burritos... Tortas... Ugh I know I missed out on so much. Went to el paisa on my way to the Grand Canyon and stopped by to get some food, I order a carne asada burrito, barbacoa tacos, carne asada tacos and al pastor tacos(the order was for the family not just for me), the only thing that I didn't enjoy was the barbacoa tacos. The burrito and other tacos were pretty good. Once they give your food you get a choice of green hot sauce, red hot sauce or avocado sauce, I requested the red hot sauce ant it was pretty good and spicy. Road trip from New York to California. Saw the great reviews on Yelp about this place and thought we'd try it out. The cashier wrote my order down wrong giving me carnitas instead of carne asada, simple mistake no problem right. Well when I told her the order was wrong she told me too bad that's what I ordered. She set the incorrect order in front of me and told me to keep it. I was beyond disappointed, there was no need to be rude like this. As you can see from the other reviews, this place is the real deal when it comes to authentic Mexican food. It's a little difficult to find because the parking entrance is quite small, but it was definitely worth me circling around the block a few times. I went here with my SO a couple of weeks ago. I had him order because he speaks Spanish (though, there was one person working off to the side that spoke English). He ordered 4 of the steak tacos and I ordered the only vegetarian option, the aguacate torta (avocado sandwich with lettuce and a tomato). My torta was a little bland on it's own, but tasted delicious once I smothered it with salsas and hot sauces! There's even a little stand of the salsas, so feel free to grab a variety and help yourself! He enjoyed his tacos, but thought they were a little on the greasy side compared to what he has had in Mexico. This place is the real deal. The canteloupe water or "agua de melon"----glorious and refreshing. Get the big one for like 2.xx and for $1 they will refill it or any of the other waters. Pretty sweet deal considering how delicious they are. My one comment is the chicharron, don't get it if you expect crunchy. It's not crispy it's more like pork belly or something. Just too fatty and chewy for me. One word: ASADA. Such good asada. They also do breakfast, wish we had enough time to check them out because the menu looked awesome. A bartender at Sidetrack recommended this little off-the-beaten-path place to me while I was in Albuquerque on vacation, and holy guacamole am I glad he did. These street-style tacos were perfect. Go to El Paisa now is all I can say.it is Mexican food at its best. Whenever I go I mostly order the tacos el pastor, I can't say enough, the food is fresh and Delicious. It's a plain restaurant with character, it's cash only but there are tons of items to try. My problem is I eat too fast. My Son and Daughter tried the carne asada burrito each with Horchata and I also had the carne asada taco. By the way the tacos for me are the best ive had and they are my go to food.
