Arrived at 5pm to pick up some dinner for the family. When we walked in the manager said "we're closed". I said the company website said they were open until 5:30pm, which was 30 minutes away. The employee said "well we ran out of chicken." I looked at the kitchen and the grills looked they had been turned off and cleaned for some time. Hey, I get that nobody likes working on a holiday, but that's not an excuse to deliver poor service to the customers. Look elsewhere and support one of the local restaurants instead. read more

If you're wondering whether a chain fast food restaurant really deserves 5 stars, the answer in this case is yes! The restaurant is so clean and the food is fresh. The manager or owner that welcomed us was so upbeat and you could tell the staff takes pride in the food they put out here. I'm an el pollo loco fan in general but this is definitely the best location I've been to! Highly recommend. Way better than something like chipotle. read more

When I want something tasty and fast for lunch in Bishop, more often than not it's El Pollo Loco. They offer tasty and healthy "fast food", certainly a better alternative to eating burgers at McDonald's, Carl's Jr., or Jack in the Box, also located along Main Street/Hwy 395 in town. EPL's citrus marinated fire-grilled chicken is exquisitely delicious, plus their other ingredients are also always fresh. EPL's taco platters are awesome, as are their burritos, tostada salads, chicken meals and more. For families with little ones, the Kids Combos are a good alternative to Happy Meals. The staff at this location are all super people, very friendly and courteous! In my visits here I've always found the restaurant clean and well maintained. The salsa/condiment bar is well stocked and cleaned often. For seating, there's a mix of booths and tables inside, along with some outdoor seating areas. A drive-thru window is available for those on the go. Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Don't hesitate to visit EPL in Bishop for a delicious, satisfying and healthy meal. read more

Stopped here in Bishop because it was close to our hotel and was food. We were starving and ready for literally anything. My husband and I have never eaten at an El Pollo Loco before, so we went in with lots of curiosity and an open mind. You could see them grilling TONS of chicken on the grills and the smell was heavenly! The restaurant and bathrooms were clean and fairly full of people eating, so that was a good sign! I got the chicken avocado burrito and he got the chicken avocado quesadilla. They were both large and stuffed full of goodies. There was also a salsa bar with lots of different options of salsa you can add with your food! We got the two pack of churros too and they were crispy and sweet and delicious! They had horchata on tap which made me even happier! Overall, this place hit the spot just right and if we drive though there again, we will definitely be stopping in! read more

Sorry, this is not a very favorable review. Our group of four each had our own disappointments. 1. It had been a really hot day (88*). Air conditioner was out, chairs propped back door open and a mass of flies were in the steamy dining area. GROSS AND HORRIBLY HOT !!! 2. The one restroom was iffy in appearance.; only one restroom marked as unisex. There was NO soap in dispenser (I reported it immediately. Sadly, after our meal, I wanted to wash my hands; still no soap!!! The other restroom was marked as employees only. 3. The chicken was laying on the grill to stay hot; it appeared to be overly cooked and dry. 4. Obviously, they were short handed. The manager manned the counter and was filling orders as well, which effected the wait. 5. I order the Classic Pollo bowl often. However, today's bowl was filled with the juice from the pinto beans. It was more like a soup! 6. The iced tea was old; the odor was evident upon dispensing and I had to drink soda. In his defense, the manager was very friendly and was trotting about to fill orders. But, this was the most disappointing experience I've ever encountered at this particular El Pollo Loco. Therefore, we will definitely not return to this establishment. read more

Hey, not bad for an EPL!!! This new-ish fast food joint feels a little healthier than other options like McDonalds and Jack in the Box nearby. Located on the south end of a pseudo-office park lot, it seems a little out of place; however, considering pretty much everything in town is on Main St., you don't really notice. The usual fare is here: chicken, burritos, tacos del carbon, salads, and sides. The salsa bar was clean and well maintained and the soft drink fountain worked great. Clean restrooms, a spacious dining room, and several tables outside in the patio round the place out. Service was ... pleasant! This is a rare find in my experience at other EPLs. It seems many folks park here and walk down to nearby Schaat's, and I myself openly ignored the "absolutely no trailer parking" posted mandate. Still, it's nice to have an alternative to burgers when the kids are hungry, and all the leftover snacks are packed away in coolers on the last of the camping ice. read more

So not excited about giving an El Pollo Loco a bad review, but this is well deserved because this is the third time it's happened to me at the Bishop store. Here's my problem; Today I ordered a chicken avocado burrito and the taco al carbon combo to go. The combo comes with three tacos, chips and a drink for $5.49. I didn't need a drink so when asked, I told the gentleman that I didn't want a drink. He told me how much and I paid using a debit card. About five minutes later they called my number and when I looked in the bag, I noticed that the tacos were just individually wrapped in foil. No chips, and they didn't come on the normal plastic plate. I looked at my receipt and sure enough, they didn't charge me $5.49 for the "combo" that I ordered. Instead they charged me $2.50 per taco ($7.50 total). I was annoyed because this is the third time in a row that they did this to me. When I brought it up to the person that helped me, he looked confused and tried to tell me that I didn't want the combo. He said that he switched it to just three tacos because I didn't want a drink. He then went to the manager and spoke to him, and then the manager came over to me and said basically that because I didn't order the combo that's what it cost for three tacos. I told him that I did in fact order the combo, but I just didn't want the drink. He seemed annoyed with me as if I had somehow created this problem. I never raised my voice or insisted on a refund, or giving me the chips I anticipated receiving. Instead he just dismissed me and walked away looking annoyed. I guess next time I go to this store, I'm going to ask for a coke with my combo, and then they'll give me a cup, at which time I will fill it up with coke, and they I'll throw the drink away in the trash. That appears to be the solution to the problem. Apparently nobody I spoke to today was smart enough to figure out that I was trying to do them a small favor. Either that, or this store's policy is to do exactly what they did today and the previous two times, and take advantage of unsuspecting customers by charging them for three tacos al carbon instead of the less expensive combo price that they ordered without a drink. Seems a shame to waste a cup and drink by throwing it away, but if that's what they prefer me to do in order to get the combo price, then so be it. It's purely on principle at this point. My real hope is that the Bishop store will change their policy and start doing the right thing. read more

I do not recommend this El Pollo Loco location at all! My family and I stopped by to get dinner and as my son was opening up his chicken avocado taco, a tiny roach crawled out! Yuck! He smashed with a napkin right away and we walked up to the counter with all of our food to return it. The lady said "it's just a flea". I could not believe this. They spoke in Spanish to each other saying that we were overreacting and that's when I began to explain how wrong they were (in Spanish). The lady gave me attitude when I asked for all of our money back as I handed her back all of our food. She never even apologized. Unbelievable!! As if having a flea in your food would make it any better. It was definitely a tiny roach. This place needs to be inspected and all employees either fired or retrained. Do not eat there!! read more

Food is always great and varied in taste and texture. The windows service in Bishop CA is lacking people who actually like having a paid job and being polite to their customer. The faces change but the same impatient, robotic, insensitive youngster continue to be hired. They are either grouped up at the windows making each other laugh while sticking their arm out to hand you your food with zero eye contact or they take your order at drive-thur and you must order using the exact words shown on the Menu Board. Heaven help you if you have a question or request, they either ignore you completely and just tell you the total due or they ask you a question referring to a different food item. Yes all this has happened to me during the last 24months. I'll stop going for months in hopes somethings have changed and just a few days ago I just drove off after stopping to get order and pay. I tried asking my question again and the young lady looked at me with pinched eyes and mouth and I thought I like your food but nit for this kind if service. ****UPDATE**** you might get SICK!!! After reading all the reviews saw several others commenting on terrible food poisoning! AVOID. My wife and I both got food poisoning. I'm not one that generally leaves reviews in general... BUT, I know it was food poisoning because we got checked out and it was the only food we had on a loNg trip... my sons had McDonald's instead and were fine. My wife even made the joke at the time how the burritos were lukewarm. To top it off, we called to let them know because of the E. coli outbreak just in case... they HUNG UP on me as soon as I mentioned it!!!! And they didn't answer again after! Came for two meals asked for 5 salsas and they wouldn't give them to me. Had to pay extra side order of salsas. $6.00 for salsa!!!!!!!!! I live in the area and have been a regular customer since they opened. I have always purchased chicken breasts through drive up to take home because they are so good... recently when I order breasts I am told they are out and will have to go inside and wait for them if I want them...this is not occasionally, but everytime I go there last 2-3 months. I ordered them today and the app said they would be ready for pick up at 1238p. They were not ready when I got there and it was about 1250 or later when I finally got them...I watched the grill person chop the pieces off of a half chicken and toss them in a to go container, then he decided they weren't done and threw them back on the grill two more times...by the time I got them home they were all cut up where cook checked to see if they were done and burnt in places on the outside and barely cooked next to the bone... ELP in Bishop CA, manager are you listening? Its obvious you don't want customers to order breasts only, as I see other complaints on here regarding this...put a sign out saying no sales on breasts only, before I go all the way thru the drive thru, only to be told you don't have any...does it bother you that you are creating Ill will in the community by poor customer service and attitude? When I got my bucket of chicken home, only the three pieces on the top of the bucket had any of the flavored grilled skin on them! The rest was like eating boiled chicken. Came here on the way to Lake Tahoe. This facility had plenty of empty seats, and their bathrooms were pretty clean. In terms of the food, I got the family pack that came with 2 sides. I got coleslaw and some broccoli, to balance out the chicken legs and thighs that came with the meal. They were all pretty succulent and tasty, as it was grilled. This has got to be the best El Pollo Loco that I've ever been to. It is extremely clean and the people are friendly beyond belief. As for their food, I'm still talking about the food when I say it's the best. Everything is so scrumptious. I'm a big fan of El Pollo Loco, but this one seems to be the epitome of all that is wonderful about the chain. Referring back to the staff, everybody is extremely sweet, but there is one a staff member, Sarah I believe, who might be the sweetest girl in the world. No, I am not related to this woman!
