Great service, amazing food, friendly clean restaurant. The food was so good and so fresh. Nice fresh cilantro too. The salsa and chips were so good, we even bought a large bag of the chips to go they were so yummy. I had the number 8 plate and the chicken in the enchilada was so tasty and moist not dry. The chili relleno was so tasty as well. Beans and rice were the icing on the cake all the food was cooked to perfection. We wanted something different the the normal so we opted for mexican food. 1st off the service was not welcoming. When we were addressed after entering, they said the wait would be 10 minutes. Its noon so okay, understandable. I guess the girl mainly tends to the register I guess. Someone else had to clean tables I noticed. We asked for two waters the other girl who cleaned the table brought the water with chips and salsa. Salsa tasted like tomatoe sauce no spice at all no seasoning. I had to add some sauce in a bottle to help it have flavor. I order a tamal a la cart and 1/2 order of beans. Our other order was a two item chile relleno shredded beef taco rice and beans. Again when the food came out bland no seasoning we ate what we could but left disappointed. It was clean, as was the bathroom but thats it. Best thing was the chips lol, and the beans with the cheese. We have no plans on returning. read more

We reserved a table to watch a World Cup match. Despite being late and it being lunch rush, they held our table. They even called me prior to arriving. We arrived and had a front row seat to the futbol game. Oh, about the food. The nachos were delicious. My wife said we might have to come back just for the nachos de asada. I've been told this is the best Mexican food in Bishop. I do not agree. Carne asada was dry and teeny tiny little pieces. Chips are made in house & I could taste the quality. I picked up a to go order and the staff was kind and friendly, however there were mistakes in the order and items omitted that were repeatedly requested which I didn't realize until I was home. The chili verde is delicious. Homemade and Has some kick. Wish I would have split the chili verde burrito with my daughter, huge. I tried the crispy vendor tacos. Not good. Carne asada, beans and rice rolled into corn tortilla and fried, then topped with everything under the sun. Just too much and very greasy. The rolled tacos were way over fried, just ruined everything inside. My daughter tried a strawberry margarita and said it was delicious. My iced tea was freshly brewed and tasty. I saw their special, pork medallions over cheese enchiladas, chipotle cranberry sauce and fresh mangos. I asked how it was and the guy replied "there's gonna be a gunfight in my belly tonight ". Bottom line, I think this place is best when you just order something simple like street tacos. When they try to get fancy, aye carumba, it's just too much. Sweet, attentive service. So, the front desk at the hotel we are staying at recommended this place along with 3 others. Since it was within walking distance and it appeared that they had a great special on Tuesdays (per information that the owner posted on Yelp) we decided to walk in and give it a shot. This place has very basic amenities from the tables and chairs to the basic decor. And that's all well and good. All we care about is the quality of the food and drinks. We placed our drink order. We were then given chips and salsa (not spicy at all). Finally we placed our order for the lobster enchiladas and a taco. Why the lobster enchiladas? Well, this place advertised the lobster enchiladas as the Tuesday special @ $12.99. Also, the whiteboard, which sits against the bar stated that it was also Tuesday's special. We didn't think to ask about the price of these enchiladas because we assumed that Yelp was correct. So, we get our bill and that plate of lobster enchiladas was $19.00. Hmm?? So we asked our waiter. He stumbled over his words and couldn't come up with a straight answer regarding the discrepancy in price so he sent the owner over. She told us that she has been trying to change that information on Yelp for quite some time but that someone else has the same info/account as she does and she has been unable to change it. But If you look at the Yelp info, she just updated her hours 3 months ago so obviously she knows how to update things and should have updated her menu prices. Realistically, the correct response on her part should have been that the info is incorrect but that she would honor that advertised price regardless and then change it on Yelp because clearly she changes her establishment's information on a fairly timely basis. I don't appreciate being lied to. She knew that we weren't locals so we would not be back anytime soon. But to take advantage of us is a royal injustice. Think twice before spending your hard earned money here if you are just visiting. Apparently there's the local price and the tourist price. read more

Driving the 395 it is important to know the good places to eat. There are plenty of average places. Amigos is not one of them. Great food and great service. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a smile by Audrey. It is not a big place but the staff manages the dining room very well. I really appreciated how everyone remained busy and constantly checked in on us. I had grilled chicken tacos which were excellent. The marinade they used on the chicken was very tasty. A friend had the baby lobster enchiladas and also said they were really good. Rosie, the owner, was also on hand to ensure everyone was happy and help out in any way possible. She also checked in on us multiple times. Just over all a great experience and definitely a place we will be returning to. read more

They brought my hubby beans and my burrito without cheese. I asked them to put some cheese on it. It came back smothered in cheese, so much so it was inedible. One thing that tells you all you need to know about this restaurant is that they are closed Sunday, foregoing revenue from departing skiers/hikers/tourists. The "..local favorite..." slogan is more than clever advertising. A solid, reasonably priced meal. Good service. Decent beer selection, some wines. This place was recommended by a friend who spent the night in Bishop a few months ago and it was walking distance from our hotel. So glad we found it! It's small and we just missed the Friday night crowd. Staff were super friendly and service was excellent. Hubby and I weren't very hungry so we split the loaded nachos (with no extra meat) and it was more than plenty. Lots and lots of toppings on crisp tortillas. Overall this place gets 4.5 stars (round up to 5) from me! I was passing through Bishop on my way down south and stopped in for a quick bite to eat. I was greeted by friendly staff who helped me decide between a couple different items on the menu. The server recommended I get the Acapulco Chicken plate and wow, it was so juicy and flavorful. The corn tortillas tasted handmade and were very chewy and delicious. It wasn't quite spicy enough for me so I asked for a spicy salsa and they brought out the most flavorful and fresh salsa I've had in a long time. I asked if they sold it in a jar and unfortunately they don't sell that particular salsa. The only negative was the Spanish rice. It was very dry and harder than it should be. With a somewhat non-descript storefront on the Main Street in Bishop, Amigos Restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside. With a sparsely decorated dining area, it does not look like much from the inside either. Looks or decor are not the point; the good, reasonably priced Mexican food is. The menu has all the usuals: tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, tostadas, etc.. This place is not about innovation or uniqueness, rather just solid, well-prepared, comfort Mexican food. Served with rice and refried beans, the marinated Acapulco tacos ($16) are a hidden gem on the menu. Chicken is marinated in fruit juices and spices, then grilled and topped with pico de Gallo and Mexican cheese. The chicken was moist and delicious and the pico de Gallo added just the right amount of spice. Comprised of lightly fried, breaded white fish, herbed mayo, pico de gallo and cheese, the palapa taco ($11, add rice and beans: +$2) is delicious and sizable. The fish is moist and tender and the breading is not too oily: a good choice for you pescatarians. Service is friendly and quick. There is a limited selection of beers. Pro tip: There is outside seating in the rear of the restaurant.
