For lunch I had made a bet with a friend that the drive thru is much faster than dining in, and I'm used to waiting about 10 minutes or so to get my order. It wasn't busy, and my order was about the same as I would have expected but when I found my friend he said the workers ignored him for 5 minutes as he stood there in front of the cash register and the workers were just chatting with each other the entire time. I decided to order a drink for him from another place in the shopping center and share my meal but I found out they got my order completely wrong. I'm not usually one to write reviews, but I just had a really great experience and wanted to share. I came in with my 10 month old son and they had a highchair that was clean perfect for him. The cashier who took our order was super friendly and gave my son a pack of stickers. Our order was ready before we had a chance to get settled in at the table. The food was tasty and just as I had ordered. One staff member, Claudia, went around the dining area and was offering to wipe tables down before guests sat down, she swept up all of our dropped food on the floor (there was a lot!) and she even gave my son a balloon to play with, which he loved. I visit a lot of this chains restaurants and this one was the best. Food was hot and fresh, restaurant was clean. But the topper was the gentleman that walked around and asked if everything was good. I even saw him refill a guests drink cup. He was very friendly and polite, walking around and cleaning tables and chatting with guests. This is the most friendly El Pollo Loco I've ever been to. There was actually a mistake with my order that they put beans in my quesadilla. When I called to complain about it, they apologized sincerely and very nicely made a new one for me the day after. I mean, it's a right thing for them to give me a new one since I had to throw away the first with beans. However, what I was impressed about was their attitude and how they handled their mistake. This made me forget about the mistake and enjoy the food second time. For food, even though El Pollo Loco is well known for its chicken plates, i wanna recommend their shrimp dishes. We were very impressed with the food and the customer service here today. The food was fresh and tasty, but to top it off there was a very nice gentlemen named Joe who gave my 4yr old son special attention. He started conversation with him and then offered to give him a special treat if he finished all his broccoli. My son was so excited, he stuffed his face with all the broccoli and waited patiently for Joe to bring him his treat. He came back and gave him a churro and a balloon. My son was thrilled!! The manager here st this location grests everyone and keeps the restaurant totally clean and picked up. This is my favorite El Pollo Loco in the area. I go for lunch and even though there is a crowd, I always get my food fast and hot. Lots of paleo-friendly options! Get the chicken tortilla soup - it's awesome. The contents are sometimes inconsistent - one time I didn't get that much chicken and the next day there was a ton of chicken! I have never been to a pollo loco before and my sister loves it so we went. Im not a fast food eater but she swears the food is good and healthy. She got the chicken bowl which she loves and I got the breast n thigh with cole slaw n broccoli. It was fantastic. Joe the door greeter was so much fun and a great help! When a place is surprisingly bad....well, you should know about it. The story, Halloween 2009, also my wife's birthday. She wanted chicken, mexican style. We normally go to Charo... Chicken, but they were remodeling. Second choice El Pollo Loco at Tustin Marketplace. I get there at 7:30p and notice a handwritten sign "store closing at 8pm". No big deal, go in and order the full family meal for about $25. The clerk tells me no more chicken. I say, it is a half hour before you close, she says no more chicken. (Mind you there are three or four customers behind me at this point). I say in this economy you are going to tell me no more chicken on a $25 order with four people behind me? She says no more chicken. I tell her it is my wife's birthday, she wants chicken, it is a half hour before you close which is earlier than your normal closing time. She says no more chicken. I am getting a little louder at this point with five workers just standing there looking at me, I should have just walked out, but I said are you fricken crazy (no pun intended), she says no more chicken. I said "please, for my wife birthday". She says, no more chicken! I will not accept a free meal at this point and would not be surprised if that location goes the way of Black Angus, which was equally customer oriented... tough times are necessary to weed out the weaker players in every game. El Pollo Loco! I come here when I have to feed about five or six hungry family members. The 10/12/14 piece family meal will do just that. I wish the sides were a bit bigger, but we usually get the mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely cheaper than us all eating out. Individual meals are pretty good too. I usually wait til I get coupons in the mail, as i think it is ridiculous to pay over $4 for a two piece meal with two sides. The value menu is pretty rad, though the portions for those are pretty small- you'd have to get at least three things to be totally satisfied. I'd recommend the tacos al carbon, churros, and quesadilla. Hint: go inside to order, that way you can hoard up on all the delicious free salsas in the salsa bar- the avocado salsa and pico de gallo are really good. If you do drive through they're more stingy and limited with the toppings. Another hint: ask for "bigger containers" at the front and they give you these 4 ounce containers for the salsas. Much easier than stuffing twenty once ounce containers with a meager tablespoon of salsa. Final hint: if you're craving more spice, ask the cashier for chiles. They hide the good stuff in the back (serrano chiles). read more

I'm just so disappointed with el pollo loco.. just not what it use to be. I ordered a salad for myself and hand rolled taquitos for the first time ever. The salad was wet and the taquitos were completely over fried and disgusting! One of them had hardly any chicken (which was stringy and black inside) and the other had no chicken inside at all. It was folded and burnt greasy chip. Oh and of course the hot sauce I asked for wasn't in the bag and I had 2-3 ice cubes in my ice tea. The crazy part is that this is the best location around. My favorite mac n cheese is from El Pollo. It's super creamy and I hate to admit it, I love that fake pump cheese flavor. The workers are pretty friendly and efficient here. I usually only order thighs and the skin is always super crispy and flavorful and the chicken juicy. It does get busy here during dinner time but I've never had to wait too long.
