A top spot in the Tujunga area. You'll see the smoke emerging from the grill outside as you drive by on Foothill. I usually try to find parking if not in front, then in the back street somewhere (be careful of cars driving fast back there). GET THE SALSA. It comes with your meal but ASK FOR MORE. It's that good. The chicken plates are excellent - mesquite flavor but the salsa takes it to another level. Comes with corn tortillas. You can also just get the chicken pre-chopped and order tacos. The plates typically come with rice and beans - these are really good and not your standard rice and refried beans - they're packed with tons of flavor and probably too much sodium as they'll put you into a coma. You can also sub coleslaw. The quesadilla is a winner - they pack it with tons of cheese. Make sure to ask that it comes with chicken. Burritos are ok. Note: they also serve asada but opt for the pollo. Sometimes they offer pupusas and tamales which you'll have to ask for. The only con is phone orders. Be patient and make sure they read back your order before hanging up. Not an ambience joint. A few tables. May want to take it to go. Mexican coke available. Again, get the salsa. read more

I was driving down Foothill and saw this place around lunchtime. It made me think of El Pollo Loco, and I figured I would check out their version of grilled chicken. The smell was very good as we approached. We ordered some chicken with the beans and rice, also very good tortillas, maybe made in house. First off the chicken was excellent, they have got the marinade and or spices dialed in. the beans were very good, the rice, well I am not a huge rice fan but it was OK. El Pollo Loco has them beat with the salsa condiment bars, but the salsa was good too. If I find myself in Tujunga again, I would stop again, even if not hungry. Hole in the wall family operation- NOT FANCY AT ALL Uber-casual. The chicken rocks. They smoke in in a barrel smoker right out front. We had 1) the slaw: a tad sweet, not too creamy and yummy (I'm not usually a slaw person, but I ate. One) 2) the soupy whole bean: flavorful, spicy, but not spicy hot-very eatable. 4: Tortillas made on the premises of corn masa and love- great, yummy, flat goodness. 5) yellow/orange rice was flavorful and soft -a great complement to the chicken dinner. 6) SMOKED CHICKEN. The rub or marinade was delicious . It didn't eat salty at all. I usually stay away from the skin, but this skin was rendered smokey goodness that begged to be chewed up and swallowed. I did warm the thigh skin in a fresh tortilla and severed it like it was the last food I. Ugh the ever have. LIKE SO. ANY OTHERS as evidenced by other reviews: I'm sorry I never stopped here before yesterday!!! I've driven by a couple hundred times if I've driven by once. There was always this oder of grilling/smoking chicken goodness, yet I never stopped in. The other chicken places in town can't compare. In Spanish, Pio Pio is the sound that make. The chicken is great! My wife and I have been to this joint about 3 times now and have even had them cater for a get together we had. The marinade they use on the chicken is money in the bank like an ATM. The young lady at the counter is super friendly as well. Seating is available but kinda limited, we always carry out anyway. So I've been coming here for 3 years now and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I ordered the posole today (sold only on Sat & Sun) and it was delicous!!! The broth was just to my liking with the perfect amount of salt. The meat was melt in your mouth tender and there was plenty of hominy. The price is excellent, compared to other Mexican restaurants in nearby cities (under $9) and the size was just right. It came with all the fixings - onion, radishes, lime, cabbage, and chile. Awesome lunch if you're in the area. I got 2 chicken breasts, 2 chicken tacos, rice and beans for $8.50 i mean you really can't beat it. Also they have an amazing salsa. The chicken tastes amazing.
