Have a margarita, have a beer, have a bloody maria, have a shot of ghost pepper infused tequila (if you dare), do not have tacos. Drinks were slightly on the spendy side... but they are that way for a reason. They're made with top notch ingredients, perfectly mixed, taste fantastic and are served up by some cool bartenders. The El Que Rita in particular was out of this world and I would encourage the use of their many infused tequilas for only $1 more. Grab some chips and salsa/guac if need be, but decline the tacos. They come "street food style," yet there was a conspicuous lack of both a second corn tortilla and a reasonable amount of meat/tofu/shrimp. This combo of missing necessities makes for some sad faces... until they take another marg sip. Skip buying the tacos and buy yourself another drink... it's what you really wanted anyways. read more

I hesitate to broadcast my ardor for this little closet of a bar because it's so tiny I don't want it overwhelmed with people if the secret gets out. This is such a fantastic place! There I've said it. Now you should go try it for yourself. Cozy, intimate, dark and a delicious drink menu. If tequila is your thing then you should definitely come here. Their food specials are delicious--I tried a guacamole burger with some kind of special pepper and chipotle mayo. Delicious. Perfectly cooked to my specifications. Their tortilla soup is flavorful and has a little kick but doesn't burn going down. El Que is just the right mix of hip and cool while remaining unpretentious, low-key and neighborhood-bar style. I had been back from Arizona for three days, and already had a taco craving. So I thought I would try something new, and I headed for El Que. Think "Taco Truck" with tequila, beer, and sit down space, and you have El Que. It is owned and operated by the same people that do the Elk, and consequently is an interesting concept. It is located in a small space directly behind and south of the Elk on Cannon Street, and has a bar with seats along the north wall, and several tables. The tacos are good, and they have beef, pork and chicken tacos at $3.00. They have other dishes, including tamales, but I did not try any of them; I did try the guacamole and chips. The guacamole was excellent, and the chips better than average. No draft beer- but a good, although limited selection in bottles. And of course, they have tequilas - a wide variety available. However, because I am a beer drinker, I did not have the opportunity to try any. They do look interesting, and the server told us they had a variety of infused tequilas using everything from huckleberries to lime. El Que has not be open long, and not many know of it. But it is a very nice addition to the restaurant scene in Browne's Addition, and well worth a try. read more

Easily the best tequila bar in Spokane, one of the better in the North. Jut moved here from the east coast and after an extensive tour of the north I have to say this was hands down my best tequila experience. It's a laid back little bar (it's attached to a great restaurant / pub called the Elk. Get it El Que, Elk... ha clever) So anyways, loving adventure I set out to find the best bar in Spokane. I can't say this is the best bar in Spokane, but best tequila bar in a while easy. They have a number of different infused tequilas that go down smooth and most importantly for tequila taste "top shelf". My advice go here and order "the beast". Beat infused and ghost pepper infused tequila mixed with some sort of magic. It's like eating delicious fire. Sure to impress any date or friend. The definition of trying something new and experience. For the scene vibe: Very cool people both behind the counter and in front. It's small and cozy, super clean and classy. The type of classy you can wear flannel and jeans to, not suit and tie. Also the prices are dirt cheap. So I guess if dollar cheeseburgers are expensive, so is this place. If however you just moved from outside of NYC and did a tour of the cities in between you will have to not laugh when they hand you your bill and you see $20 after a night of drinking! I don't know if they have a new chef or something, but the Guacamole has been brown the last few times I've been there, and my favorite dish, shrimp tacos, used to be so delicious, but then they all of a sudden started to become unbearably spicy. El Que puts a new twist on a hole in the wall restaurant. If you aren't looking for it, you could easily drive by and miss out on everything El Que has to offer! The drinks are to die for. $5 Blood Maria's on Sunday's to start, which is a great deal. Together, my boyfriend and I all ordered and split the Blood Maria, house margarita, dark and stormy, strawberry/jalapeños infused lemonade and a rhubarb refresher (don't remember the official name). All of the drinks were incredible. I would recommend ordering the Bloody Maria at half spice and having the barkeep add more if you want. I love spicey drinks, but even at half spice this drink was in your face. But it was still so good, I couldn't put it down! The only criticisms with the food is extremely hypercritical. Less cabbage and more cilantro on the pork and skirt steak tacos. Everything else was great and fairly authentic. If fact, I'm getting tad hungry thinking about how good it was. The barkeep was essentially running the place, making drinks, taking food and drink orders and running food as well. She stayed on top of everything and pretty much knew everyone by name who came in and sat at the bar. Very impressive. My boyfriend lives in Spokane but I don't. This place has a nice, cozy, dark, colorful atmosphere. One of my favorite atmospheres in town They have recently added a patio area out front, wider than the width of the interior. Fantastic addition, makes me like the place more. I'm on vegan diet so I don't eat here much, had a tofu taco once, it cost $3 and I ate it within about 15 seconds. Tasty but that's damn pricey. Many other things seem excessively pricey. So during times when I'm short on cash I avoid this place. The cheapest thing you can drink is a tallboy PBR can for $3. There is a similar bar in Olympia I love that I swear has these for $1.50 and much cheaper prices on everything else too. I really don't understand Spokane sometimes. I can find cheaper bars to go to in Seattle, no problem, compared to this town. I've really enjoyed the tequila drinks I've had here, the ghost chili tequila sure is a hoot. Oh yummity-yum, yum. This place is so good. Think hole-in-the-wall bar meets (authentic) Mexican taqueria with a dash of foodie and a splash of hipster. Not a poser Portlandia hipster, but just hip enough to enjoy crafty cocktails and $2 mexican (canned) beer nights. Like I said, authentic tacos - the kind you find in Mexico: tasty marinated proteins on soft corn tortillas topped with onions and cilantro. Everything we ate was tasty. Everything we drank was yummy. I tried several menu items plus three varieties of the $3 tacos and wished I wasn't full so I could try more. Only downside is the um, rather intimate (read: small) setting, so you might not get a table. However, it's worth waiting for, so start with a drink and grab the first available. read more

El Que - Lounges Near Me - Spokane, Washington

We are huge fans of the Two Seven and Elk so we were chomping at the bit to try El Que. We've been back several times. The atmosphere rocks- very intimate and relaxed with a casual crowd. The bartenders are friendly, laid back and pour stiff ones. As a "Veggie" I was thrilled when they added tofu tacos. They are scrumptious and addictive! My husband loves their meat tacos and likens them to street taco truck style. Our only complaint is the price for portion size. I think it is meant to be munchie bar food rather than a hearty meal. It would be nice if they accompanied the tacos with a filler side or had a 2 for $5 deal. The mixed drinks and house infused tequila flavors are definitely worth trying, truly unique and fun. read more

El Que is two very different bars and I love both of them. The first El Que is the weeknight El Que. There's always a decent amount of people to make the cozy bar feel comfortable. The dim lighting is relaxing and I can usually spot both single individuals coming for a quick after-work drink and groups sitting at one of the tables either in the bar or on the front patio. The second El Que is the weekend El Que. People love this place and it shows. The bar can become incredibly crowded where you need to (politely) push your way through the sea of people to reach the counter. If you're not a fan of a loud and crowded bar, the "other" El Que is a better fit. That said, it's a positive crowd. It's loud with good conversation, not drunk patrons. Reminds me of smaller bars in Puerto Rico. There's a spirit of authenticity at El Que. A lot of the other reviews remove stars for food, both for price and quality. I've never ordered food nor is this the place to do it. I wouldn't say the bar is understaffed but they seem to take a minimalist approach. The food seems to be a courtesy for those who are starving but with the size of the bar, the fast pace at which everything moves, and the amount of people in the small space contributes to the feeling that El Que isn't the right place to plan your dinner. That "minimalist approach" means that your drinks aren't always the quickest to arrive but that's not for lack of any effort on behalf of the bartender. I usually have the same woman and she's working a sweat, to say the least. Should the bar hire more people? Meh. I don't think so but I can understand an argument saying otherwise. I go to El Que to hang out with friends and waiting a few minutes for my drink while we're chatting is hardly a chore. Besides the awesome drinks, El Que is a favorite for their heavy pours... and their pours can be incredibly heavy. At $8/drink, it doesn't strike people as a "value bar" but don't be fooled. I grab the Ghost Pepper Margarita whose spiciness slows my drinking because between the incredible flavor and unexpected strength, my night could quickly require a cab-ride home. read more

Now, that I'm no longer hip or cool, and am a career mom who likes to go out once in awhile and rub elbows with those who are still hip and cool - El Que is a nice place to do that. A hole in the wall bar, with just the right cool factor that it doesn't seem forced, in a perfect Brown's location. I like that I can have a few drinks with friends, and still have a good dinner - food is actually pretty darn good. My fiancé and I came here for dinner one night because we were recommended their tacos and tequila. El Que serves about 11 different infused tequilas (cucumber, lavender vanilla, ghost chili, beet, and that's not counting the ~30ish different brands of tequila on the wall) and a few menu items (no smaller than any bar in the area) with a rotating special. We started with the salsa which was amazing! Chips and salsa is so easy but so often screwed up. For dinner we had the tacos and had the steak, chicken, pork, and fish between the two of us. The three taco meals were good portions and each taco tasted great, my personal favorite being the pork. The tequila was great and the infused tequila was very unique. The bartender was very nice ( I did not catch her name but she was there on a weeknight and had arm tattoos) and managed the entire bar with no problem. As we split up the math things started not matching up... as we asked about this we were meet with rudeness and a vague response that was not understood by any in the party. Tried to spend a nice afternoon here enjoying the sunshine, music, drinks and food. Was rudely approached by Kara saying, "we're not open yet!" I inquired about what time they were open and she responded, "in a couple minutes." So we patiently waited outside for 7 minutes until she got around to acknowledging us. It was slow as we were the first people in for the day. We ordered drinks to start assuming she would return and/or ask us about food. She dropped the drinks and never came back... We sat for 25 minutes while she chatted with family friends about how she was just helping out for the weekend. Mean while two other couples sat and were offered drinks and food as I would expect from a normal dining experience. After our drinks had long since disappeared she finally asked if we were doing okay. We had been looking forward to visiting as we now live out of town and were starving. Asked to speak with a manager (Marshall) which took another 15 minutes... When he finally showed up he said, "hi, what can I do for you... I'm very busy!" He seemed very defensive and quick to try and get us out. He made us feel devalued and that his time was worth more than his customers. In the past the food has been great. Like I said it was a destination for us on our trip. Hopefully someone will care enough to take this feedback and make some great changes. read more

I was sooooo excited to try this place as I love authentic Mexican and heard this was the place. I'm a HUGE fan of all the other restaurants. I must repeat that I'm a HUGE HUGE fan of all the other restaurants and haven't had a bad meal at any of them but El Que. Finally went there for lunch so didn't get a chance to try out the great selection of tequila so this is a food only review. I will begin with the not so good. Started with standard chips and salsa and added a gauc to the order. The chips were basic and almost had a weird?? warmed plastic kind of taste? Not sure but was not good. Salsa and gauc were barely just an OK. I wanted to get a good mix trying a few things so I also ordered a tamale. I realize that there is a science to making good tamales and I hate to even review this but this tamale was AWFUL. Tasted like some strange cornmeal muck. Now maybe this was just an off day or something but bottom line I would not recommend it. On to the Great. I had three of the tacos and these were the authentic delicious "taco truck" tacos. I tried the steak, chicken, and pork tacos. They were all good. Very fresh ingredients and excellent flavor on all of the tacos. Just my opinion if your going to El Que fill up on the tacos or maybe first load up on the Tequilla and then the rest won't matter. read more

The classic Ritas at El Que are amazingly delicious. I am a total margarita snob and the margaritas here are some of the best I've found in Spokane. The guacamole is very good and great to enjoy with margarita. The tacos are above average. I particularly like the tacos al pastor. The main reason I'm not giving them a five star rating is due to inconsistency on the tacos. The last time I was there I didn't enjoy the tacos as much as I usually do. read more

We had heard great things about El Que and were so excited to try it out for the first time. We arrived at the restaurant and stood near the door for a few minutes, during which time the two waitresses on duty walked by us several times, not acknowledging us. It was our first time and there is no "seat yourself" sign - we eventually figured it out after being ignored multiple times by waitresses! Ordered drinks and food and everything seemed to be going fine. Except for the fact that the food was INCREDIBLY spicy - I asked the waitress for water. About 10 minutes later she came to check on us and see if we needed anything - I asked for a water again. Water never came, and we had to go up to the bar to close our check. Let me also mention the restaurant was NOT at all busy - they should have had plenty of time to look after us. Staff was rude throughout the entire dining process, from arrival, to ordering and not getting what we asked for, to closing out. This was the worst restaurant experience I've had in my life. I will not be returning and will be spreading the word about the despicable service. read more

We are big tequila fans, and after reading about their infused tequilas I had to go. We went in yesterday afternoon and it was quiet, with only two others in the bar. I tried the beet infused margarita and it was very tasty. We shared a shot of the ghost pepper infused tequila and it was very hot, but I couldn't stop tasting it. We got tacos which were good, not memorable though, a little salt might have made the difference. I waited for chips and salsa, which I did not realize you had to order guacomole to get. I really liked the drinks, but we were dissapointed in the food. It is a bar first and if your looking for good mexican food , keep looking, go for the tequilas. read more

So much Tequila! The food is good but a little expensive. Not a place to go if you are really hungry but for amazing drinks, fun atmosphere and good small plates of food this is the place. Pretty much all of their specialty margaritas are wonderful. I love this littel hole in the wall tequilla bar. Though a small lounge, El Que serves up some big time margaritas. With a variety of infused tequillas and fresh ingredients, their margaritas are truely fantastic! The food is also great. Chips and salsa are always delicous, and the pork tacos are my favorite. Also, located in browns edition, this tequilla bar has a great vibe, is close to downtown, and is surrounded by some other excellent restaurants and coffe shops. read more

From a review I posted on May 26, 2014: I hate to write this review, but not for the reason you might think.... I have hesitated to write about El Que because it's a small place and I don't want more people coming here and making it harder for us to get in. One of the hardest things about living in Spokane is finding really good Mexican food. Most are mediocre at best, and having grown up in southern California with authentic Mexican, my fiancee and I know good Mexican when we taste it. This is one of two restaurants in Spokane that does it right, and I would have never thought The Elk could pull it off. Some of the reviews mention the slow service and rude servers, but my fiancee and I have never had any rude service. It's slow because they usually just have one person working, but it's a small bar/restaurant with not much room for two servers, so we accept it. The amazing food more than makes up for it. I always get the three taco plate with rice and frijoles. My fiancee loves the chili rellenos that are roasted, not fried like most restaurants make them. Both these dishes are priced at only $9, a great deal in my opinion, and the rest of the menu is fairly priced as well. The frijoles are incredible, a Tex-Mex smoky BBQ bowl of pintos unlike any we've ever had. Chips and salsa are not free, but order the tasty guacamole and you get them included. Go when you're not in a hurry, and I guarantee you'll leave satisfied (and with more money left in your wallet/purse than you'd think). read more

Perfect little spot in Browne's Addition, right behind the Elk House Pub. They have options for vegetarians and meat-eaters at affordable prices. Variety of tasty tacos ($3), great guacamole and chips ($6) and cocktails (ranging from $6-11)! It is pretty small, I would say about 40 covers tops, but that is part of the charm. I have worked in the service industry for my entire adult life. I suppose that's what made my experience here so appalling. The service was just terrible. The bartender seemed to care more about talking to her friends than caring for our table. After waiting so long to pay with our card, we pooled our cash so we could finally leave. We left the payment, and after a brief problem outside, the bartender complained to us about our tip, clearly not seeing the remaining money under the candle on the table. We will never be back, and will tell our friends that if they want professional service, they should go somewhere else. read more
