I was there on January 21 at 4:47 pm. I ordered the Burr Jalisco breto and it came out like warm. I did think it tasted ok not the best but not the worst. Service was not the best since the place was slow maybe 4 other tables. My server was more concerned about his cell phone and talking to others who worked there. I have ate pretty much everything on the menu and I have no complaints whatsoever. I've spent over twenty-four hours thinking about how to write this review. I realized this place doesn't deserve my energy. The food is literally the worst Mexican food I've ever had. They attempted to cover whatever was wrong with the ingredients with copious amounts of salt. The service awful and we waited over an hour for food that was nothing less than disgusting. My partner and I left only eating a small portion of our order. The apple-filled churros accompanied by ice cream with chocolate sauce were very flavorful. 3 churros were ample to share the plate. Draft Modelo beer and smoky pear cocktail were very good. We were traveling through on our way to Gettysburg and looking for a sit-down place and Mexican sounded good. We eat Mexican food quite often and had our hopes up. El Ranchero was disappointing. Service was slow and I had to ask three times over the space of 20 minutes till I finally got a hotter variety of salsa for the complimentary chips that came to the table initially. Not many chips left by that time, and a second (small) basket of chips is $2.99, unlike most more authentic Mexican restaurants we go to. For Entrees we had Beef Enchiladas and Carnitas. The enchiladas were good. The Carnitas had a good flavor but were somewhat overcooked and dry to the point of being difficult to eat. The only condiments on the table are salt and pepper. No hot sauces of any kind. This is much more of a Mexican-themed American restaurant, not a Mexican restaurant. If you want good Mexican food, keep looking. read more

I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where the chips were bad UNTIL NOW. I admit some are better than others but none are bad. These were tasteless and stale. I ordered nachos and when the plate arrived it looked like a mixture of baby food and diaper. I pushed the food aside with my fork to find the food swimming in a full plate of grease. Popped in El Ranchero after a day on the slopes... Ok after snow tubing... But the food was yummy!! I got the enchilada la Paz which came with shrimp and crab meat in it and had a cheesy sauce, pretty tasty if I do say so myself. Others got the shrimp fajitas which came out on a sizzling skillet which was enjoyed by those who had it. Our waiter was also the bartender and he was pretty attentive. Okay. Frederick needs one of these. Came here on a whim with a friend after a long day of work for happy hour $1.99 margaritas?! I ain't complaining. Pretty strong and good flavor. I got the carnitas and they were great. Only complaint is they came with the burrito size tortillas which is a lot of tortilla for me. I prefer the smaller sized ones you usually get. Bonus for the spicy homemade salsa my waiter provided upon request: great flavor and perfect final touch to my meal. Also the chips and salsa were pretty stellar. After the first bite, I unrolled the dense tortillas, all three of them and there was barely...barely any crabmeat or shrimp in it. I can not stress this enough! 3.5 Came here with a LARGE group of corporate folk. Numbero Uno rule for the entire week was NO alcohol during group events. So I can't rate the boos which can either make or break a Mexican restaurant. So this review is solely based on food and service. We were seated right away because arrangements were made and based on the crowd on a Tuesday night that would be highly recommended. Very crowed. There is a mariachi band which was loud and fun kinda took the disappointment of no margarita with my food tolerable, OK not so much but they were cool. Communicating with the staff was difficult. There is a language barrier and the noise in the establishment didn't help much. Good chips and salsa. They also bring out this white cheese dip which I didn't try but the gal next to me described it as 'cheese crack' so I guess that means it was good. We started by sharing the nachos. Now I was refraining from the chips, salsa, and cheese crack for the nachos so when all the entrees were served and the nachos came out last, my hips were happy my tum not so much. The nachos barely got touched. I had to sample for Yelp purposes. The original menu item comes with both beef and chicken on the chips. The meat was good but not enough cheese and I think the cheese crack was poured all over them. Tons of toppings too much to even see what was underneath, which is normally not a bad thing but in this case it was pretty extreme. I ordered the Texas Fajitas. A beef, chicken, shrimp mix, very good. Plentiful in all three. My only complaint was that it could have been hotter. I ordered the corn tortilla's which took forever to come out which made my entree even cooler, but the food overall was good. For dessert we shared the deep fried ice cream which wasn't very deep fried. The ice cream was actually extremely hard to get my spoon in, but ice cream is ice cream so I enjoyed the frozen treat. I've been to countless - and I mean countless - 'authentic' joints where the salsas fresh, the chips are warm, the drinks are cold and the beans are fine. But I've never ever **ever** been to one that had a "seafood chimichanga" on the menu. Now, I haven't had a chimichanga since I cut pork and chicken and beef out of my diet ... and I've missed it.
