Hmm. My carnitas burrito was strange -- it just tasted off. The carnitas tasted like they were boiled or something, and there was very little flavor in the burrito. I ended up not even finishing it, which sucked because I was hungry and really in the mood for a carnitas burrito. My husband and I are avid Mexican food eaters - we have some form of Mexican at least 3 times a week. We moved up the road from this taco shop about 1.5 years ago and I've been meaning to write a review forever. We've tried almost everything on the menu and I have zero complaints except for the California burrito - the fries are always cold or soggy. Otherwise, everything is tasty. The price are great. The people complaining about the price probably have not seen the portion sizes - they give you plenty for the cost! I've been coming here for years but tonight will be my last time in this taco shop. I got two orders of rolled tacos, asked for the cheese on the side and no guacamole. I get there and they gave me two tiny sides of cheese. I asked for more cheese, and was told I was going to be charged, then one of the guys said well she said she didn't want guacamole, so I was given one more tiny side of cheese.$15 for 10 rolled tacos? My experience included poor customer service from an employee that took my order. Gaby at the front register took my order and was unpleasant with no customer service skills whatsoever, especially when I asked to have no rice or beans in my carne asada burrito. We had 3 breakfast burritos: mechaga, original with bacon, and original with ham. All excellent! The salsas are fantastic; the mild is my personal favorite. Not too hot but there's a kick. Owners care more about saving a buck than providing quality food to their customers. Plus they don't source their food locally but want the locals to spend their money with them. Found out that when provided the opportunity to buy local organics at the same price or cheaper, they pass to buy from other countries or commercial growers cause they get deals on other items. read more

On January 9th 2021 we stopped in to have lunch. We ordered posole and a bowl of menudo along with 3 chicharron burritos. We dined outside and the waitress brought her food to us. Upon leaving our table we requested additional lemon. She pointed down to the lemon which was four slices of lime and told us that we had already had some and we don't need any more. I do believe that when the customer request additional salsa guacamole refill on the drink or any of those situations that may arise in a restaurant. She could have simply just giving it to us or if there was an additional charge just let me know no big deal. But she was very rude and refused to bring us what we had asked for. Some people like more lemon in their menudo and some people don't. Nonetheless she didn't have a problem taking my money but couldn't give me what I wanted too bad. The food was great but the service sucked. That alone makes my meal not so great I will not be returning. I will not be returning and I will let everybody I know of your terrible service. The bill was $21.24 and checkout woman swore they have no ads online and we must have seen some other T/S ad. The food was mostly plain rice and beans. Just came from El Ranchito..aka "the taco shop" and had some great carne asada burritos. This place is a lil hard to find but I heard it has been here for years. My husband got some frappicinos next door and I ordered dinner to go. Hot sauce is delicious (the red sauce)...and carne seasoned perfect. The lovely lady behind the counter was patient with me, as I have never been here before. Also Jamaica drink pairs perfect with our burritos. Cools the spice. Light and refreshing. Love this place. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because Aztek Tacos across the street is still number one for Mexican food and they have earned the rating I've given them by serving me meal after great meal every time I've been. So, onto El Ranchito. My wife and I had eaten here a few times after we first moved to the neighborhood and were pleased with the food overall. After we tried a handful of taco places in town we had just plain forgotten about El Ranchito. Yesterday I thought it was high time we went again because Aztek at lunch and dinner rush times is super busy. I ordered the carnitas torta, one of my favorite things. A Mexican hamburger, really. Delicious carnitas, beans, guacamole, lettuce, cheese, toasty bun. They gave us three of the small salsa cups and a larger cup which I filled with the pickled carrots. Love those things! The flavor of my torta was very good and my wife enjoyed her carne asada tacos, three of them. We both got drinks and for a little over $17 we had a filling meal. Don't understand why some people think the prices here are high. I looked over the whole menu and nothing stood out as being overpriced. I will go out on a limb here and make a suggestion to the people who own the three El Ranchito Taco Shops: If you raised the prices and gave customers bigger cups for salsas, they would still complain but then it might be easier if people could have as much salsa as they want. read more

I used to visit this restaurant on a regular basis. The food is decent for the price. If it isn't Taco Tuesday, I will usually get the California Burrito. Unfortunately, each time I go in, my customer service experience is not enjoyable - which I believe comes from the fact that most employees are in their late teens. If you walk in with a question about a menu item, do not expect to get an enthusiastic and informative answer. It is almost as if the staff is taught not to talk to customers unless absolutely necessary. Likewise, I have used coupons that I get in the mail and they made me feel like I was taking advantage of them - especially on Taco Tuesday night. Although the food is good, it isn't good enough to put up with the shoddy customer service. El Ranchito is overall fair in food quality. Their breakfast burritos are pretty good but they recently raised their prices significantly! The price increase brings a breakfast burrito to more than $10 after tax which is just crazy considering it's mostly beans and tortilla. From now on I'll go elsewhere for my breakfast burritos unless they reconsider their pricing. One more item that has always irritated folks is they are super skimpy on napkins, utensils and similar. My entire family loves the food. We always get it to go, because the atmosphere is lacking. It's no frills, all the way. That said...the Steak Fajita Burrito is all wonderful, marinated steak with onions and peppers; no guac as someone else said. Plus it's huge. I have to cut mine in half and eat it for two meals. The fresh salsa is wonderful. We love the tacos, chimichanga, everything really. The prices are affordable and we find great coupons from time to time. The people are nice and very eager to help. My Mexican friends won't eat at many mexican restaurants, but this one makes the cut. It didn't amaze me but it was a-ok.They have a wide selection off their menu and their customer service was friendly. They have a pretty good amount of seating inside with a TV for viewing. Their rice tastes like Uncle Bens, and keeping with the El Rancheapo theme a little bit of Knors. The only thing with flavor was their runny refried beans. I swear they had the texture of rehydrated k-rations. You get half ounce cups for salsa and napkins given to you by the cashier. They're too cheap to let you get what you need. There are no toilet seat covers in the restroom. Not even an empty dispenser. We asked...just in case. Nope. No seat covers. Just as nasty and cheap as the food. El Ranchito was my original "go-to" place for Mexcian food. Good quality, tasty, and fresh. Staff are friendly. Problem is since COVID-19 it seems they've bumped up their prices by 50%. I use to buy a tray of 20 taquitos with guacamole for $27.19 with tax, today it cost $40.78 representing a 50% increase. I asked, and they confirmed they've raised their prices. The prices have gradually increased over the last several years, but it remains an easy and quick option for some Mexican food in South Temecula. The taquitos are awesome but way overpriced now. You get the most for your money by ordering the super nachos. I recommend it with the grilled chicken! Avoid this place from 3:00~3:30 PM on weekdays when school is in session. Have only had four things from this location: - Pozole - California burrito - Carne asada fries - Horchata Pozole bowl is HUGE. There is no spice and the broth lacks substance but the bowl is full of hominy and pork; you won't be disappointed if you're not knowledgable of what pozole is supposed to taste like. If you've got something to compare it to (my mother's is AMAZING), then it's disgusting. California burrito is glorious. It's a perfect hangover food or just a good cheat meal all together. Sour cream, fries, carne asada, and cheese stuffed in a huge tortilla makes for one goooood meal. Carne asada fries are ok. I had eaten them first at Alberto's (Murrieta Hot Springs area) and those were so good. So this place had big shoes to fill. It does the job but it isn't as good. It's dry. It's lacking something; can't put my finger on it. But if you had never had them before, not too bad. Horchata is really good.
