I had the lobster with garlic and butter sauce. Much lighter than you would expect. My mom had the lobster in creole sauce. Not spicy, sort of sweet in a tomato kind of way. They just got new tables and chairs which the old man was super proud of. His son kept trying to tell him how to organize them but the old man was going to do it his way. The owner was super friendly and chatty; he was more than willing to talk to us about the area and the food. We ordered the creole shrimp and seafood gumbo, and both were delicious. Luis and his fine little restaurant lived up to the hype with great service, food and friendliness. We had the Pollo Mofongo and Gumbo. Luis was nice enough to combine chicken and shrimp in the Gumbo at my request and I loved it. My wife had the Mofongo with the Creole sauce that Luis recommended and it was outstanding. Very authentic little restaurant run by nice a couple in the back of a gift shop. Service was great, and the husband was very welcoming and made great Pina Coladas. Only issue with such a small operation is if all 6 tables come in at the same time there can be a hold-up on receiving the food. Only complaints were that the food was a little pricey for what you received and our mofongo was drier than what we had at other restaurants. First off, it is truly hilarious being buzzed into a restaurant, then walking past a gift shop to sit down and eat here. If the Yelp reviews weren't so amazing we would have been wtf-ing pretty hard! Luis greeted us and was awesome throughout our meal. He recommended some items and based on his recs, we picked the dorado and a gumbo. My mahi mahi was so flaky and flavorful, and the criollo sauce on the side was perfect with it. Definitely try the criollo sauce, regardless of what you order, because you'll put it on all your food and life will never be the same. It was the Frank's Red Hot of that meal, I was seriously obsessed with it and put that ish on everything. This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever been in the whole island. I'm a local. Aside of its friendly waiter ( too friendly I woud say), their menu is too limited and expensive. I ordered the fried pork chops with rice and beans. Rice wasn't that good; beans seemed they poured directly from the can; chops were untasty. This place is a bit hidden in housing areas. Street parking only. They have a small beach amenities store in the front and the restaurant is in the back. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was just ok. Food is pricey. We tried the chicken gumbo soup, it was bland and just too sour and the portion is small for the $12 price tag. The red snapper with criollo sauce tastes good and the fish is quite big and comes with a salad and 1 side. The abichuelas (beans) tasted good. The shrimp w garlic sauce was bland. The price at this restaurant matches those you would find in San Juan proper, or even higher, but the quality or portion (or even dining environment or service) is no match. I don't know why it has such a high rating but it certainly lured a lot of tourists in (all 3 tables were seated with tourists when we dined). I regretting coming here, paying one of the most expensive bills of all my dining experience in Puerto Rick, while the food was less than mediocre (we were not full, and the meal was extremely salty - the owner argued that it's how things are but we've had similar dishes at other restaurants in Luquillo and Fajardo that are far more tasty and far less salty). For reference, we ordered the gumbo and conch from the del mar portion of the menu. Maybe the rice dishes were better? I can't tell. read more

Family of 3 enjoyed the upstairs but the downstairs with the music looked like a lot of fun. We had the steak and the whole fish and it was thumbs up from both the adults. This being out first night our in P.R. we also had the pina colada and very happy with the strength of the drink. The upstairs has a fair amount of noise since the tables are close but it gave a lively atmosphere. After leaving the restaurant, we had small problem getting the car out of the side street and everyone was so friendly. The lobster on creole sauce is awesome ( lingosta con crilolla). Some of the best i have had on the island, hands down. Yes it takes a little while for the food, but its handmade from scratch. Puerto Rican culture is slower paced than mainland america, so order another medalla and don't be in a rush. If you are in a hurry, go to McDonald's and eat garbage. Wonderful experience at this hidden away joint. Although a little hard to find (it's in the back of a gift shop), the food was incredible and the service was the best I've experienced in PR. It's owned by a husband and wife - she cooks, he serves. The grouper and mofongo were both fantastic, the homemade hot sauce was amazing, and we were treated to a round of moonshine rum at the end of the meal. Had a great meal here. As others noted, the mofongos are top notch. My wife's sopa de camarones was also good with a rich and flavorful broth. Even the seemingly boring grilled chicken dish our son had was surprisingly flavorful. The rice and bean side dishes also merit mention. The service was top notch and they pay attention to little things like bringing out our 5yr old's dish first so we could help him get started eating before our plates arrived. A tasty bite of complimentary flan at the end of the meal was a nice touch too. Prices were cheap compared to other places we've been in the area. In our experience with mofongo it seems to be a little undercooked. As nice as the owner Luis was, the food was only okay. We ordered fried fish pockets to start and different entrees with creole sauced based on the many recommendations. The fish pockets came out quickly and was fresh and warm. It was soft and light, not heavy like I thought it would be looking at it. Not sure what kind of fish was in it, but it was mild and a decent starter. The fish and seafood in creole sauce were cooked well, but the creole sauce itself was rather uninspiring. It almost reminded me of a darker version of the Americanized Chinese sweet and sour sauce. Fortunately, Luis had two different pepper sauces (one homemade) that made the sauce better. I think the boy and I must've used more than half the bottle! Like everyone said, Luis is super nice and if you're ever in need of company in Luquillo, his store and restaurant would be a good place to hang out, especially if he shares more of his cousin's homemade moonshine! read more

It's a cute little restaurant a few blocks from the plaza. The menu is a mixture of meat, fish, veg etc. I had the steak and mofongo, my wife had a seafood/mofongo dish. Everything we had was very good. While eating the a local fisherman brought in some fresh lobster that he just caught. But perhaps the best part of our evening was the host. He is over the top friendly and helpful. He'll explain everything to you , have a nice conversation and just make you feel at home. Afterwards he even gave us little shots of home made liquor. What a wonderful hidden gem of a restaurant! We had no trouble finding it because we used the GPS on my phone, but it can be a bit difficult. We came because it was recommended by a Puerto Rican woman who works in my building. It looks like the owner of a souvenir shop decided to throw a few tables up in the back of his store and start serving home cooked meals to his customers. It's small and very personal, with EXTREMELY friendly service. We had the snapper with creole sauce, shrimp with creole sauce, and the shrimp gumbo. All three were authentic and awesome.
