Claro que Siii! El Sombrero es fabuloso. From the giant house margaritas to the fresh chips and salsa, I loved everything. The entrees are also definitely worth the drive - and I have to cross a big bridge to get here.

No No No!!!!!!! Service was very SLOW / Margaritas were terrible the worst ever. I got the BIRRIA Tocos they were not good and the BIRRIA dipping sauce was like water, and had no flavor Tables are falling apart.

Shredded chicken quesadilla and steak burrito

Ruby was our server and she was amazing. Her recommendations were great. We had the queso as a starter and the steak burritos and chicken quesadillas. Some of the best food we had in a long time. They told us all about their events and we will definitely be back. definitely recommend if you're in the area or need a place to eat after a day of shopping!

GPS made us go around and we passed the restaurant after turning around and getting out of a industrial warehouse district it said turn right onto 301 and we noticed the wagon wheel. Looks like a warehouse from the side and front but don't be discouraged it's a real nice place inside. We were parking when someone parked next to us and we asked how's the food low and behold it was the we owner Mike he has s super Sense of humor and answered it's great I come here a lot but I'm the owner. Once inside the restaurant was beautifully decorated with nice wood engraved and brightly colored Mexican furniture. Fully stocked bar and quirky signs if you're detailed and noticed. This place is a gem ! The food is as brought out fresh and hot. The server was also very helpful making suggestions. The unsweetened tea was so light is was like water so I let her know and she came back saying she tried it and was too diluted. I'm impressed that she did this and came immediately back to offer something else. The Mexican music was spot on The restrooms were clean and as the time passed the families rolled in. You can tell it's a family restaurant but don't be fooled it must be a heck of a lot of fun when they're hosting events. Mike was kind enough to show us the huge event room adjacent to the restaurant and wow the place can host 500+ people. Great place. We will be back for Taco Tuesdays for sure. Did I mention their house margarita rocks!!

Pretty decent little spot in a very unassuming exterior. Tried the ginger margarita, it was a nice taste of margarita then ended with ginger beer notes. Tried the flautas and they weren't as cheesy as I prefer but still tasted good.

    Chicken fajitas. Very tasty!

A great flavored Mexican restaurant. The food was hot and had an authentic taste to it. I know to us we happened to be there between 3 and 4 pm and the margarita were one buck! And, they were good! The place is located in a warehouse location but really nice inside. Very decorative and some booths have their own tv. They have a live band on Fridays!

My drinks been empty for 20mins

have been here for over two hours and everyone else in the restaurant that have arrived after us have gotten their food and drinks and have left.

The inside decor did not match the outside. Really cute and takes you to a cafe in Mexico. Nice music playing and good service. The food? No bueno. Edible but not good. It's a shame it has everything else going for it.

OK, admittedly, if you were to drive by this establishment your first impression would not be "gee this looks like a place at which I would like to eat". It looks more like a warehouse than a restaurant. Fortunately we were joining friends for dinner who have eaten there often and love it. Inside, the restaurant is decorated in a colorful and festive fashion. There is tons of seating and the restaurant is well staffed. The place was full, yet we were greeted, seated, provided menus and served drinks in a very timely manner. The restaurant had a happy hour offering margaritas for $2 and it was Taco Tuesday (which were a dollar or two dollars per, if forget). The menu is extensive and prices are pretty reasonable. I ordered chicken and steak fajitas and they were excellent! My wife enchiladas and she liked them as well. A couple of our friends ordered the tacos and they too enjoyed them very much. To date, this is the best Mexican restaurant that we have found in the area!

I'm always trying to support little Mom and Pop shops, but this is a warning to all those wanting attentive service and good to mediocre food. First, the queso is flavorless, the rice is super dry, and the refried beans were essentially slop- even after letting them sit for a good 5 minutes. The service was fine, however I ordered a chicken enchilada and received a beef enchilada. The saving grace of this place was the margarita. Which was alright. Overall, El Sombrero was especially underwhelming.

    a plate of food

I went there today to reward myself for rocking a job interview, and I'm happy I did. Two beers, chips, salsa, fajitas, and fried ice cream filled me up with enough leftover for dinner. The server was friendly and attentive. Perfect!

Ask the Community - El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant

Can you order deep fried tacos? Are your chips & Salsa homemade?

The chips come warm and taste homemade. The salsa seems homemade, too. The salsa isn't very spicy but it has good flavor. I'm not sure what you mean by deep fried tacos. Sounds interesting! They do have hard shelled tacos which were fried.

    Are they Closed Mondays?

The posted hours show they are closed Mondays.

My partner and I ordered the chicken that comes with rice, beans, and tortillas. You can either order the one that comes with 5 pieces, or the one with 10 pieces of chicken. The 5 piece was enough for one person. We also ordered the steak flautas that comes with avocado and lettuce. Everything looked delicious, but the chicken was a little dry. It seems like the chicken is all prepared earlier and warmed up, so it was not as juicy as we would have liked. Inside of the flautas were also a bit dry. The rice was good, but I was not a big fan of the beans because they were salty. We also ordered the large pineapple drink, which was perfect for such a hot day.

Don't expect heavy cheese or sauces- this is all about the chicken. I imagine it could be dry depending on when it was cooked, but what we had was flavorful and juicy. Served with a smile and in a small rating area. Definitely worth the trip to check them out

My food took an hour to come out, everyone's food came out 20 minutes prior to mine. I ate in a group and a few orders were also wrong. Once my food came out I barely could eat! So bland and unseasoned! This was not Hispanic food! Not even good enough to take home. THE FOOD: wow I started making loaded fajita tacos with 3 tortillas and luckily the sour cream could mask then taste of the steak. The veggies were fresh but once they were gone, tasting solely the fajitas it was near intolerable. Very bloody tasting and unseasoned. Next I went to my rice but oh god... I had to spit it out. It tasted like sand. Old, moist rice that looked appealing but don't be mistaken.... The menu items are half the selection it used to be. We had the enchiladas and the food was so bland and had no flavor whatsoever. The salsa was ok but no chunks of tomato and just like gravy. The chips had no substance to them and most were small broken pieces, bottom of the bag. The only thing going for the place were the drinks and our server was attentive. For the price of the meal...$90+ for 2, we wont be back anytime soon. So sad to see a classic fade away.

The food is not bad, not at all, it's just very, very bland. We're in Palmetto, where there is a lot of Mexican people, so I was hoping the food would be a little more authentic tasting to appeal to the locals, but it appears as if the demographic they are trying to appeal to are the older folks, because honestly, this is how I would expect Mexican Night at a nursing home food to taste. Absolutely no spice in any dishes, all of them taste the same. This is a nice restaurant and I really want to see them do well, because they are so close to my house and with all the traffic going to Bradenton, it would be nice to have a great restaurant that's only a 2 minute drive away, but we end up driving to other Mexican restaurants, passing right by this one. Like I said, the food isn't bad, it will do if you are in a hurry or if your elderly relatives are visiting, but a little spice would be nice! I'll keep trying them, but after 5 visits, nothing has changed.
