My husband and I tried this out for the first time last week after moving in nearby. This place definitely gets extra points for price but overall I found in mediocre in a town FULL of taco options. The veggie taco was my favorite as the quality of meat was a little questionable in the beef fajita taco. The salsas were delicious and tasted very fresh and homemade. I would almost go back to buy a big batch of some of those! I also really liked that the flour tortillas were a smaller size and didn't overpower the taco like is sometimes the case at other taco joints. My husband enjoyed his al pastor taco and said it was very authentic. (He's lived in Mexico City.) So, we will probably give this place another try for breakfast or lunch. read more

The El Equinox is what keeps me coming back time and time again. This iced horchata & espresso drink is out of this world! The tacos are also pretty tasty and the pricing are extremely reasonable. Only reason for 4 stars is because the drive through is usually packed and slow. I'll drive out of my way to get to this place just for The Equinox. Horchata and espresso?? Yes and yes. The hype is so worth it. Prices are exceptional, tacos are tasty (not contenders for best in Austin, but they're certainly delicious), staff is friendly, and salsa is straight-forward and fresh. Be warned - the drive-through is awkward and if the line is even a few cars deep you'll probably wait for at least ten minutes. The pay off for your patience is hot, just-prepared food. I usually park in back and walk up to the front window - much speedier service. No tables to sit at, so be ready to take it on the go. Both times I've been here they have either forgot to give me part of the order or did not give me the correct food (missing a key ingredient like ham on a ham egg and cheese taco). Their torta de hongos is so good. Their taco de verduras is also delicious. Their salsa is hit or miss. Sometimes, it's really good and sometimes it's just sad and watery. Overall, I go out of my way to get food here so they're doing something right. My only real complaint is that twice I've gotten really salty food. This evening after my rehearsal with Soul Track Mind I was walking to meet a friend and decided that me belly was in need of a torta & a taco. And soooo... I went to El Tacorrido and got me some! I had: Carnitas Torta: $5.50 - slow-cooked pork shoulder (very nice), avocado spread, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, and mayonnaise sandwiched between french bread. Pollo Taco: $2.00 - chicken marinated w/ habanero, corn (maize) tortilla with cilantro, onions, and lime. My order came with generous amounts of Salsa Verde (creamy avocado, tomatillo, jalapeño, and cilantro.) The meal was Fresh. Inexpensive. Delicious. To go. And it was made and served by nice folks who didn't make me feel bad for attempting to order in Spanish. My Spanish speaking is not so good, but I'm working on it... It's a few hours since I ate and I'm feeling fine. :) You know, I don't eat out very often as I love to cook. I also save a lot of money and eat much healthier when I cook at home. But it's always nice to know that there are several great places on the South side to grab some good grub. Especially when I'm beat after catching busses, walking and rehearsing for hours. Glad I stopped by and checked El Tacorrido out. It wasn't the best I've had, but it was damn good and well priced ($7.50). Who even DOES that these days?!!! 5 seconds after driving off I locate my card and do a u back into the place. A handshake and a thank you and they've made a lifelong customer. So I'm pleased to say that they have greatly improved their service! I really love the food here however the customer service is almost always unsatisfactory. The woman today was very rude we had a pretty simple order. Two taco's, bacon, egg, and cheese and a chorizo, egg, and cheese. When we asked for the chorizo, she asked us to repeat ourselves she was unclear as to what she wanted us to repeat so we said chorizo, egg and cheese. She then asked if that will be all we asked did you get the bacon ones she sounds very annoyed and says "no or I wouldn't have asked you to repeat the order". So we tell her again. We pull up to the window we had ordered a coffee which usually doesn't take that long. We sat there waiting at the window which she never opened to greet us. When she finally opened the window to hand us our drink and food she never said a word besides the total and when we said thank you she just closed the window. Stuff like this happens all the time. I'm not sure if the good food is worth the horrible customer service. I work in customer service and if I was to ever treat a customer this way I would definitely be talked to by management. I come here a lot with family and friends and the food is always 10/10. As for the staff, its a hit or miss. The majority of the time they're quick, attentive, and never get an order wrong, but the last time I went the employee at the window made me feel rushed and not welcome. I can only vouch for the vegetarian options, but man are they good! The Tacos de Verduras are delicious with small-diced grilled zucchini, sweet potatoes, corn, and queso fresco. The potato egg cheese breakfast tacos are also excellent. I like all of the sauces, but the red (molcajete) salsa is my favorite - nice and spicy. And it's one thing or another - someone else's order gets given to me, missing tacos, totally wrong orders etc. there are also OFTEN egg shells in my breakfast tacos and their bacon is pretty meh. Person taking order had to see if queso was available then proceeded to express dismay at how expensive order was and that I would spend $6 for just that! I too was dismayed but had already committed. Queso not great but craving is a craving. Chips were as remembered but it all took an ugly turn as I got to bottom third of bag. What I thought was a part of a roasted chile pepper turned out to be part of a giant roach! Craving over! Tried calling - machine. No email contact on website. I had read some good reviews about this place and wanted to check it out. I'm not a picky breakfast taco person -- potato, egg, and cheese. Was looking forward to a convenient and friendly new place. This was the worst I have ever had -- and I am sorry to say that about a local place. I went ahead and got 2 potato, egg, and cheese tacos, one on corn and one on flour -- just to see -- and how could you go wrong? Whoa. Both had a weird taste and smell, which should have been the first danger signal. Luckily, I only tried a little bit of both before realizing that this was all wrong. Other than being disgusting in taste, my stomach is now recuperating. It will be a while before I'm ready to try breakfast tacos again, and definitely not from El Tacorrido. This used to be my favorite taco place in Austin. I ate there like twice a week. Place went downhill. I would order bistec tacos and now when you order these, it's as if you ordered onion tacos. They put grilled onion and fresh onion and about 4 pieces of meat. The cheese in the quesadilla also changed to a nasty salty cheddar, no more mozzarella cheese or frying cheese. What a bummer. I really do love this place. I have never been disappointed with the food here. It definitely has some of the best tacos. Even more so than some "fancier" tacos restaurants in Austin. The only issue and reason for not getting a 5 star is the ordering/parking lot system. It was more convenient when they had a 2 lane system a few years ago. Really disappointed in the service I just experienced. I've been a loyal customer since the day this place opened and by loyal I mean at least once a week, sometimes even twice. This place is convenient, low cost and the food is good. That is when they get the order right, which is becoming a rare experience. At least 1 in 5 times my order will be missing something but it's sometimes not worth the hassle to drive back for missing bacon now matter how disappointed you are and honestly, I'm aware they are going to mess up a high number of times so I should be double checking it before I leave. Today however was beyond ridiculous. After repeating my order many times to the gentlemen who was working the window it was incorrect. I had clearly been given someone else's order. I drove back and completely understand that mistakes are made so it was really no big deal, mainly just pretty inconvenient when I go here for convenience. I was offered a free beverage but all I wanted was my order so I could eat. I had just come back from a trip out of town and my home is empty when it comes to food. I grabbed my tacos and now running behind on my day raced back home. I grabbed the El Equinox I had ordered on my first trip from my fridge and it was horrible. The horchata was so watered down it barely tasted like the El Equinox I am used to getting so I dumped it down the sink. No worries, I open my tacos and the order is wrong again. I'm sorry but when my order is jacked up the first time, how hard is it to double check it after I drove back? I should have checked it myself before leaving but this was kinda ridiculous. I called to ask for a refund and was told I would have to drive back to receive it so I got in my car a THIRD TIME to get a refund. When I arrived I was asked what my total was and after a few minutes the gentleman I was dealing with just shoved cash at me and told me he didn't want to hold me up further. There was no offer to give me the correct order, the order that I did have was now cold and ruined, my coffee was melted and the service was horrible. I honestly thought the time I was chastised by one of the employees for not having cash would be the last time I went to this place but I think after today I'm done which is incredibly disappointing. I ended up driving to HEB and cooking my own breakfast, something I should have done in the first place. I have always kept my order the same since this place opened a few years ago, it is a simple order and today was really disappointing. All I wanted was some tacos because I was in a hurry and some coffee. Now I know to give up on this place and go elsewhere. My only suggestion for those who continue to put up with what can only be described and pure laziness is to double check your order before leaving the window because the chances of it being incorrect are pretty high. read more
