I've been a regular at "the trash can" for over 30 years. As a matter of fact, when I was single I can remember dining here for breakfast, lunch and dinner - all on the same day. Of course back then a super deluxe was only $6.00. Inflation has pushed up prices, but it's still one of the best Mexican meals in LA, or dare I say one of the best Mexican meals PERIOD. The refried beans is simply the best combo of lard to bean to soupy consistency. The ground beef is found nowhere else. And the shredded chicken is high quality. If you grew up in the surrounding community, chances are you have an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for this wonderful little hole in the wall restaurant. Though there's a few locations, everyone who's in the know, knows that the Rosecrans one is the undisputed champ. Having been going here for close to 30 years now, I can honestly say that I've probably eaten here close to 1,000 times in my life. What really separates this location from the others is the staff. I literally grew up before their eyes and I've lamented with Manny about this on multiple occasions. I ordered the nachos to go and by the time i got home to eat them, well they were quite wet and gross. When it comes to a "to go" or "DoorDash" order, it might make more sense to keep the tostado in a tin foil wrap because by the time the customer receives the nacho order, the tostada is super wet and ruins the nachos. There are plenty plenty plenty of available metered parking on Rosecrans in front of El Tarasco. And if you happen to not find any, there is a parking structure full of metered parking spots across the street. The place looks tiny from the outside, but, surprisingly, it could seat a bout a dozen inside. I was ready to walk u to the counter (not much walking really coz there's only a small space between the counter in front of the kitchen and the counter at the windows) but before i could, one of the guys behind the counter came up and gave us the menu It's been a while since I've had a wet burrito so I might be forgiven for thinking that's a large burrito big enough for two. Ordered the beef one and this one has iceberg lettuce, beans, rice with guacamole, chile sauce and cheese on top. That chile sauce is GOOD. Fish tacos! I was in town for business meetings and noticed El Tarasco during an early morning ruck to the beach. While the taped sign on the door said Open they were not open for breakfast. I made my way back later in the evening for a 2nd dinner after a group dinner at Panchos across the street. Given the choice, I'd have skipped Panchos and tried more off the menu. We were in the area and walked by. Not too hungry so we ordered some chips and guac to go. Guacamole was a huge tray. The chips are tortilla shells that were warm & your break off it yourself. It came with a side of fresh salsa... The best salsa I've had in a long time. It was so good that we returned the following day to order full meals and our guac and salsa. It was so good and good portion sizes. If there is a downside, it's that there is no real dining area. Definitely can't eat here with a group. Get your food to go and sit at the beach. read more

It's pretty good, but man is it expensive. This normal taqueria style burrito was over $14 (beans rice meat onions cilantro). I could buy two burritos twice that size for that much. Pretty good authentic restaurant that's located near the airport. Quick tip, Tamales are eaten for breakfast so they run out pretty quickly if you are craving that. Also had lots of issues with wrong phone orders as the phone line is Janky and the music is loud. Parking is a nightmare, check out the metered parking lot across the street, if you order ahead you can get away with just dropping a quarter in. On Sunday we ordered thru Yelp grub hub a large family order. The staff here was absolutely amazing. The two guys are always so wonderful when we come in. Been going here for 20+years and they are always my favorite location. So humble , sweet and of course delicious food. What more could you ask for at a restaurant. We always order the JR, super burrito with ground beef , carnitas dinner plate that comes with rice and refried beans and tortillas , Carnitas taquitos ( my moms been ordering a side of those for 20 years ) they're not $2 anymore but she still loves them ! And of course their chips and home made salsa is a must. I'm a spicy gal so normally I need hot sauce and everything but for some reason here the food is just soo good , I don't need hot sauce for once. This place is hella groovy. First time Ive been here and for sure I will return. I ordered the chicken torta and it was fanatic. This is the first time I ever had a torta and I gotta say it was a legendary sandwich. My Torta was filled to the max with delicious ingredients. The food is still good, but I don't like being ripped off, so taking a star away for lameness. The El Tarasco burrito with asada was my go to item here and it was always around 8 bucks. Today they felt like charging extra for steak, even though the menu clearly states that asada is one of the choices for this burrito. The dude at the counter kept insisting it's a 2 dollar charge because at the top of their menu it says 2 dollars for meat substitutions (though this does not and has not included meats listed under "Your choice of...", which was the case here). Total came out to $11.74. The appeal of eating here for me was having good food at good prices. With that gone, I think I probably won't be back very often as the location isn't the most convenient for ordering. Since my last review I have noted that you can actually take some stairs next to the restaurant and eat at a nice little picnic area above. Too bad about the 8 dollar burrito being sold for almost 12 now. Pros: + El Tarasco Burrito + Picnic Area Cons: - You get charged extra for picking a meat that is listed among the choices. I only ordered because of the great reviews. I craved mexican food, this place happen to be open late "i ordered after 1am". I ordered the deluxe burrito for about $11 after tax, and 2 beef taco that comes with sides of rice and beans for about $13 + they include chips and salsa for free. This is the break down: 1- Chips and salsa = excellent ,crispy chips ,delicious hot salsa. 2- deluxe burrito = very poor. The red sauce tasted like tomato sauce out of a can. True tomato sauce out of a can could be very delicious if cooked properly;however this one tasted bitter and not cooked all the way. Which resulted in horrible tasting sauce. I dont know how the burrito tasted like since it was drenched in red sauce. 3- 2 tacos: the taco and meat tasted bland "not authentic mexican as some reviews stated" not even mexican fast food standard. This is like if you let your 8yr old daughter cook for the first time. Even the side of rice and beans was bad. The rice was yellow instead of red and tasted like steamed rice instead of mexican rice. The beans were good. Would I eat there again: I don't think so. Taco bell and Deltaco are way better options. Sorry guys your restaurant looks like a hole in the wall and I thought I found a gem, a secret place, a Cinderella ,however it turned out that the food taste like something that ctually came out of a hole in the wall.maybe even a hole in something else "with all do respect to readers". So In conclusion : over priced for what they give, and taste 2 out of 10. 2 instead of zero for the delicious free chips and salsa. read more

I am super disappointed in this spot. We were looking for a late night snack that served Carne Asada fries and this was one of the only few locations that were open at the time (approx 10:30ish pm). The guy whom I presume is the owner / sons owner used old friends (didn't even fry fresh ones) and put on the toppings and put it in the oven.
