I came with a group of 10 people for an early dinner. El Gringo is located in El Segundo on Main Street. There is a free parking lot adjacent and metered street parking. Upon arrival we were immediately given water, chips and salsa with refills. I asked if I could order separately. No problem. He gave us each our own separate check. I recently had oral surgery so I ordered a large soup. The soup was hearty and full of chicken pieces. So much so that I could only half of them. Our server was friendly and was very accommodating of everyone's requests. Everyone was happy with their meals. We drove out to El Gringo Mexican Restaurant in El Segundo today because it was highly rated on DoorDash, and we were excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We ordered eight crunchy tacos and four burritos. By the time we got home, the tacos were no longer crunchy at all. They had been wrapped so tightly in foil that the shells became completely soggy. We expected crunchy tacos to be packaged in a way that would help maintain their texture, such as trays or containers that prevent steam from building up. The bigger issue was the filling. The tacos were packed with lettuce but had very little meat, making them feel more like a salad than a taco. The shells were so soft and messy that we could barely hold them, and our kids didn't even want to touch them. We love Mexican food and were really looking forward to this meal, but it missed the mark for us. We hope the restaurant considers a different packaging method for to-go crunchy tacos, as proper packaging could make a huge difference in the overall experience. read more

Came here after a weekend Halloween event. There's a decent amount of seating, and the server is as great. It was not too busy so we got our food very quickly. As far as ambiance, ease or location, and device goes, great! Food tasted good too but I wouldn't same come here looking for authentically good Mexican food. I mean, it is called El Gringo. We walked in on a weekend and were seated in the patio area (dogs allowed!). The menu is large with lots of options, including taco plates with choose-your-own-sides. The sodas are also bottomless which is an added plus. I had the fish tacos with a side of beans and mac and cheese. First time at this location. We wanted to try something different so we came to El Segundo's Main Street. We had been customers of their Torrance Blvd location years ago but had drifted away to other places over the years. The location is bright, super clean and very welcoming. We were there for lunch on Saturday and there was only one other table of customers. The place was empty. The young woman who waited on us was attentive and helpful. It should have been a great experience, it was only average sadly. We ordered two 1 item combo meals (Mahi Mahi and blackened chicken), a tea and diet coke.... $63 including tip for two meals? The fish and chicken were both dry and the rice and beans were nearly room temperature. With only 5 customers in the restaurant, how does the kitchen deliver such an underwhelming meal? Incredible. I wish I could have reported a better experience because the owner and their employees obviously take pride in their restaurant location. came home and the family had ordered from the newest mexican restaurant in town. ive seen several of these in the south bay but this is the first time i have tried their food. i should have figured that any place called 'el gringo' would not be authentic mexican food but i was not prepared for how awful my burrito would be. slathered in an unappetizing green sauce and coated in burnt, nasty cheese, my shrimp burrito was nearly inedible. didnt think it was possible to get a bad burrito in socal, but i was wrong. if you live anywhere near a rubios, go there instead. This restaurant has a young hip and cool kinda vibe, doesn't strike me as an "authentic Mexican restaurant " based on the staff working here and music that was playing. Hubbers was the one who noticed this place as we grubbed across the street and mentioned checking it out one day. So, "one day" comes along and we found ourselves up in here maybe a little over an hour before their closing hour. "Seat yourself" says the sign. We wanted to settle down at the patio-like area (because it had the best view to watch TNF) but the table we preferred was dirty, so we decided to sit on one of the high chair/tables toward the right. (No biggie, there were TV's with the game on as well.) It's a very casual place. Our server was even dressed as so which I thought was kinda cool. She came through with menus, complimentary chips and salsa, and asked if we would like drinks. Hubbers and I ordered and got delivered a pint of brewskis each. We were on the hungry side, so we were quick to decide what to have for dinner. And then no one came back. FOR AWHILE. The young lady who served us to begin with was moving so quickly all over the place (gathering plates and glasses, cleaning up tables - including the dirty one I pointed out earlier - wiping stuff down, etc...) and it was simply just difficult to flag her. I looked around to see if I could flag someone else, but all I saw were about 4-6 people up at the bar talking amongst themselves. I couldn't tell if they were customers or staff members up until I saw all of them folding towels. (Staff!) It was difficult to flag any of them either since they weren't really paying attention to any customers. They seem so deeply absorbed with their yip-yappin'. (There was a customer sitting at the end of the bar no more than three feet away from them who hasn't put in his order either, and another at a table across us.) Hubbers was practically halfway through his brew (I hadn't touched mine because I wanted to have it with my food) before someone came up to us, apologetic, stating she wasn't sure whether we were going to or have ordered grub yet. "No, we haven't." Hubbers went for their chicken enchilada. I went for their grilled shrimp burrito, "no beans, no cilantro, please?" Given there weren't a lot of customers plus it's nearing closing hour, our food got delivered very quickly. Hubbers liked his plate - and that's as far as it went. He said it was just okay, but not impressive. My burrito was HUGE which was impressive at first until I realized there was just way too much rice - too much, in fact, that it obscured how great the grilled shrimp were. (Personally, I would have cut the amount of rice down 50%.) Other than that, I liked it. The quac was also a nice touch. FOOD: 3. Mediocre at best. SERVICE: 2.5. The wait was completely unnecessary, even more especially for hungry customers. VALUE: 2.5. A bit on the pricey end for Mexican cuisine. PARKING: Street. There's a small parking lot next door but with only a few spaces. OVERALL: 2.75. It's reasonably new so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks. What I enjoyed most about el gringo was the friendly staff. They are super attentive, nice and fast. The food was delicious and the portions are big enough to share with everyone. I have been very skeptical of trying El Gringo (hence the name). I finally caved in and gave it a chance. I didn't have high expectations walking in anyways and I most likely won't be returning any time soon. Came here on a weekday for lunch - it wasn't very busy at all... MAYBE 4-5 other tables? Complimentary chips & salsa were brought out immediately. Chips were stale tasting and salsa was okay. The server took awhile to come and take our order. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito ($14) which comes "Wet" with red or green sauce, a scoop of guacamole and the inside contained - carne asada, rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onion & cilantro. The burrito is BIG (as seen in other comments/pictures) but that doesn't mean it's necessarily good. It was very bland tasting and lacking flavor besides salt. They do have a pretty extensive menu and they have a nice patio area outside (slightly exposed) with several TVs, blankets and heat lamps. OVERALL: I think El Gringo is okay for the El Segundo neighborhood and nearby businesses but it is definitely nowhere near "authentic" Mexican food. There are other restaurants nearby I'd rather go such as La Paz or Sausal (not authentic either but good). read more

Summary: Better than expected. Beyond meat burrito was tasty and good portion for the price. Cadillac margarita was strong and pretty tasty. Friendly and attentive service. Free chips and salsa seemed fresh and tasty (also readily replenished). I'd come back again. My buddy and I went here for our first visit on a Friday for dinner. The reviews on Yelp are definitely mixed, but the close proximity to our homes and general busy-ness drew us in for a trial run. We arrived and were allowed to find our own seating, so we chose a large booth on the left wing of the restaurant (since there were a lot of tables still open at the time). Soon we were visited by a server to bring us waters, menus, and the first basket of chips and salsa. We perused the menu for drinks first and each ordered the Cadillac margarita while the server said she'd give us another minute to peruse for food. Soon our margaritas came back and we placed our orders. I opted for the Beyond meat burrito with refried beans, which is served wet with the usual assortment of rice, beans, cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and meat, wrapped in a large tortilla, covered in red or green sauce (I chose red), and some guacamole. My buddy also got a burrito, but with a different protein. First sip into the margarita and we could definitely taste the alcohol (which is both good and not-great), so we stirred around and it became a little less intense, but still strong throughout consumption. It definitely did its job, and was far from bad, so I'd consider it a win overall. Soon after that, our burritos arrived and we dug in. The burritos were nice and toasty, sizable, tasty, and well textured. I had nothing to complain about. I can see why $18 for a burrito is arguably a lot, but 1) quality is solid, 2) portion is ample, and 3) places like Calo Kitchen command similar price tags. The margarita was potentially even better value for the price given the volume. Additionally, throughout the meal we were regularly visited as the place got more and more crowded and given a refill of water and chips/salsa. Generally speaking, I can't find much to fault from our first experience at El Gringo, and I'd be happy to make a second at some point in the near future. read more

Mis primos are walking muy low and slow. My tio (far left) has an inkling for some fine Mexican cuisine. Considering he is Persian, this is a very humble choice from him. We stumble across a super clean joint and we walk in. I immediately was greeted by this server Kahanita, whomst was very lovely and helpful. Gracias Kahana! My primo #1 (middle) is a very picky Mexican critic--inmediatamente he epicked the most yummy cuisine. The carné asada burrito. This burrito is the Star player in this joint. He devoured that burrizote and was quite pleased with the results. Me myself and I enjoyed a Tekate with un lime, I didn't eat much as I am working on my figure, but the chips were so crunchy and feel like you're being punched by Canelo once dipped in the Devine salsita. We then all enjoyed a round of shots, but this conquest did not resolve itself easily. My tio has bad anger issues so if he doesn't have a chaser he gets bien enojado and will most likely make my primo (tying shoe picture) sleep on the patio, if and only if, he doesn't have a proper chaser to his tequilas. Kahana the beautiful server brought my tio some orange juice to help with his problems. Now a little tipsy we all decided to pose for some pictures on the way out. this place may have the best table salsa I've ever had. ever. I can seriously just order a beer at the bar and eat chips and salsa all day. and I have. :) the place has an open feel with windows that open full length onto Main st, perfect for those warm summers. the place is cozy and located on bustling Main St. friendly servers and a limited, but, very delicious menu. they even have kids options that my 3 usually split because of the size. their salad options are very filling as well, and come in 2 different sizes. we've ordered and dined in multiple times and will continue to do so. love these guys. read more
