We walked in on a weekend and were seated in the patio area (dogs allowed!). The menu is large with lots of options, including taco plates with choose-your-own-sides. The sodas are also bottomless which is an added plus. I had the fish tacos with a side of beans and mac and cheese. The tacos were just okay and the sides were tasty although not necessarily all authentic Mexican food. Overall a solid casual restaurant in El Segundo for a meal!

The service was great, the restaurant was very nice inside, beer was real good, but food was only fair to good, El Tarasco's Carne Asada Tacos tacos or burritos have taken first place for great tasting dishes, I'll try something else here next time! Bout the atmosphere was fantastic. And it is a nice place!

First time visit. Sat inside with a party of three. There is also a larger outside patio with heaters. Servers were very attentive supplying chips and salsa (spicy) immediately. We all ordered cheese enchiladas with varying sides. Entrees arrived in good time with a smile. Overall it was decent and appeared to be very busy with a family crowd on a weekday early evening.

Cute little hole in the wall restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and checked in on us very often. The food also came out really fast which was nice. Everything tasted good but wasn't anything to rave about. They did give complimentary chips and salsa. I wouldn't go out if my way to come here but would eat here if i was around the area.

Haven't been here in a long time and incredibly the food is consistent. The burrito I Ordered was amazing the service incredible Whitney or server was great. big bright windows, great booths and table and the music doesn't kill you while you're trying to eat. It has at Hometown feel and everyone knows your name. Best part has a full bar for those of you that love margaritas

El Gringo is a family friendly full service restaurant. Semi covered patio and a full open front wall providing an indoor/outdoor atmosphere.

YOU GET FREE CHIPS & Salsa . Upon entry you have a friendly hostess who greets u with a smile and is very helpful. This restaurant has a young hip and cool kinda vibe, doesn't strike me as an "authentic Mexican restaurant " based on the staff working here and music that was playing. This place was decent, the food is pretty standard , it's not bad at all but it doesn't knock your socks off. I visited on a Tuesday but I didn't notice on the menu if they had a happy hour or any taco Tuesday" specials. I order a small side guac , veggie rojo enchiladas with Mexican rice & black beans, also a "Top Shelf" margarita. I can't even hold you the Guac was slackin on its mackin. It was just mashed avocado. The entree was tasty a fair amount of heat but not to spicy where u couldn't enjoy it. The drink was tasty along with the chips & salsa. I could have used a fresher batch of chips but I didn't ask. The prices could be a little lower but, Overall this place is worth trying. I liked it .

Hubbers was the one who noticed this place as we grubbed across the street and mentioned checking it out one day. So, "one day" comes along and we found ourselves up in here maybe a little over an hour before their closing hour. "Seat yourself" says the sign. We wanted to settle down at the patio-like area (because it had the best view to watch TNF) but the table we preferred was dirty, so we decided to sit on one of the high chair/tables toward the right. (No biggie, there were TV's with the game on as well.) It's a very casual place. Our server was even dressed as so which I thought was kinda cool. She came through with menus, complimentary chips and salsa, and asked if we would like drinks. Hubbers and I ordered and got delivered a pint of brewskis each. We were on the hungry side, so we were quick to decide what to have for dinner. And then no one came back. FOR AWHILE. The young lady who served us to begin with was moving so quickly all over the place (gathering plates and glasses, cleaning up tables - including the dirty one I pointed out earlier - wiping stuff down, etc...) and it was simply just difficult to flag her. I looked around to see if I could flag someone else, but all I saw were about 4-6 people up at the bar talking amongst themselves. I couldn't tell if they were customers or staff members up until I saw all of them folding towels. (Staff!) It was difficult to flag any of them either since they weren't really paying attention to any customers. They seem so deeply absorbed with their yip-yappin'. (There was a customer sitting at the end of the bar no more than three feet away from them who hasn't put in his order either, and another at a table across us.) Hubbers was practically halfway through his brew (I hadn't touched mine because I wanted to have it with my food) before someone came up to us, apologetic, stating she wasn't sure whether we were going to or have ordered grub yet. "No, we haven't." Hubbers went for their chicken enchilada. I went for their grilled shrimp burrito, "no beans, no cilantro, please?" Given there weren't a lot of customers plus it's nearing closing hour, our food got delivered very quickly. Hubbers liked his plate - and that's as far as it went. He said it was just okay, but not impressive. My burrito was HUGE which was impressive at first until I realized there was just way too much rice - too much, in fact, that it obscured how great the grilled shrimp were. (Personally, I would have cut the amount of rice down 50%.) Other than that, I liked it. The quac was also a nice touch. FOOD: 3. Mediocre at best. SERVICE: 2.5. The wait was completely unnecessary, even more especially for hungry customers. VALUE: 2.5. A bit on the pricey end for Mexican cuisine. PARKING: Street. There's a small parking lot next door but with only a few spaces. OVERALL: 2.75. It's reasonably new so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks. I might just return if I start hearing good things.

Salsa tasted like it was from a store. Hard chairs. No salsa verde or smoked salsa with food. For gringos es bastante pero no es para mi.

What makes it worse is that this is not our first time with Mercado. We've been fans since the original location near The Grove and have been coming to this South Bay location for a while. We used to order takeout and dined in regularly and in the past the experience was much better. Unfortunately, that is clearly no longer the case. The service was atrocious from start to finish. We waited far too long for everything, including drinks. A single Tecate took about 30 minutes to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the night. Nobody checked on us, nobody seemed attentive and we spent way too much of the evening just sitting there waiting. The food was equally bad. The carnitas nachos came out cold. The steak taco was rubbery. The fish tacos were incredibly dry. The birthday fajitas were also dry and underwhelming. For a place at this price point, there is really no excuse for food coming out like this. The overall atmosphere also felt off. What used to feel lively and welcoming now felt neglected and poorly managed. It was especially frustrating because this was supposed to be a birthday dinner and instead it turned into a long, overpriced, disappointing experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to write this because we have a long history with Mercado, but after this visit, we're done. There are too many better options in the South Bay to spend this kind of money on bad food, bad service and an overall miserable experience.

The second experience was not great. It was an extremely busy night, and the service was not what I expected. I told the waiter I was displeased. He apologized; however, I was disappointed and we left. After I left, I received a message from my server, Ben, asking for an opportunity to to make it right and inviting me back. Two months later, I took him up on the offer. He booked my reservation right away. Upon arriving at the restaurant with my Mom, we were seated right away and given such good treatment, we felt like celebrities. And the food, AMAZING! The churros for dessert - Chef's kiss. What makes this stand out for me is that Ben went so far above and beyond to make sure that I had a good experience. His apology was sincere enough, but he didn't stop there. A lot of people are not willing to go the extra mile like he did that day. I am very grateful and appreciative, and I do not take it for granted. The food at Esperanza speaks for itself, but the SERVICE 100/10! No notes. Thank you Ben.

So like yesterday, I decided to stop by and grab a burrito, but unfortunately, this will be the last time. I usually visit this location with my dad. He's been coming to this location since before I was born and I'm damn near 40. But this time I came alone and the place was packed. They don't have a big seating area. It's like a bar with about four seats to the right and four seat seats to the left so it doesn't accommodate many people, so people order to go. And that was my plan. I walk in and the server (with his chef at and money taped to it) and I grab the same menu. He allows me to have it, and he grabs another and gives it to one of the customers. I say all this to say that he definitely knows exactly when I arrived. However, A white man walks up less than a minute later and for some reason he decides to ask him if he ready to order, as if I'm invisible. This was the second time that this happened to me today and God knows how many times has happened to me in life. So at some point, I just have to stop ignoring the fact that Black people aren't welcome in certain spaces. Maybe we are by law, but not at all met with respect! That is all!

The location is unbeatable--it sits right across the plaza from our go-to spot for live music, The Lighthouse Cafe. It truly is the ultimate place to grab dinner and drinks before a night out. The absolute star of the menu is the Braised Short Rib Taquitos ($16.95). The taste is genuinely incredible--the short rib is rich, savory, and melts in your mouth inside a perfectly crispy shell. They are also surprisingly versatile when it comes to drinks; we found that they paired beautifully with both a crisp glass of Chardonnay and a cold, refreshing IPA. Beyond the food, the service elevated the entire evening. We were taken care of by our waiter and bartender, DJ. He was attentive, mixed great drinks, and provided top-tier hospitality. We learned he is actually a protégé of JD, one of the original waiters from when Palmilla first opened its doors. That deep-rooted legacy of excellent, seasoned service is very apparent in how DJ treats his guests. If you find yourself in Hermosa Beach and need a phenomenal meal with a great vibe before heading over to The Lighthouse, Palmilla is the perfect choice.
