Empty tables yet so many people waiting in the front for hours

If I could give ZERO stars, I absolutely would. We arrived at 12pm and didn't leave there until 6pm. Literally spent the whole day there. Planned to eat brunch and had dinner LOL. So first off, Mother's Day.. my husband decided to take me and our 4 children for brunch. Waited THREE AND A HALF HOURS to be sat. The hostess was absolutely horrible. Poor communication, extremely arrogant and very inconsiderate. Everyone with a reservation was not being sat at their times. They overbooked and were understaffed. So unprofessional. It was a mess of a situation and us waiting so long, we hoped the service would at least make up for it. They extended brunch just to finally be sat (after complaining there were so many empty tables) we got our plates and guess what, COLD FOOD! That was the icing on the cake. We decided to order from the menu and our server was being so rude after the fact. We informed her that brunch had cold food and she suggested we pay for both brunch and regular menu. I laughed at her and told her to bring the manager. The manager (red hair lady) was very sweet and considerate, of course she didn't make us pay for cold brunch. But anyway. You would think our server would somehow accommodate for the unimaginable wait time, we never even got chips and salsa until we asked for it after waiting 30+ minutes for our food. (Btw the chips and salsa were the only good tasting food on the table) So, 3 hour wait, horrible food AND terrible service. My gosh, this place ruined Mother's Day for me. We spent 2 hours eating our bland food (we were all starving at that point) Even my 1 & 2 year old fell asleep waiting for our food, that's how long we were there. We will never return to this place again. If you plan on coming here for any special holidays, DON'T. Even with a reservation. Trust me when I tell you, they are overbooked and understaffed! I read a review from 11 months ago, Father's Day which said all the same. Tells you all you need to know.

We have been here twice based on the photos. Both experiences were so vastly different. The food is always tasting delicious and hot when it comes out. This is more based on service time and the experience we had. The first time we came in was a Tuesday night and we sat inside. We had a wonderful experience with a great woman server (she had glasses - we couldn't find her name on the recipe). She made sure our waters were constantly topped off, filled our chips and tortillas, and made sure our food/experience was great. It was such a great experience we were in the mood for their deep fried ice cream and it's just as good as it sounds! This was a 5 star experience. The second time we came was a Sunday late afternoon and sat on their patio for their happy hour. The happy hour deals to amount of food is pretty good. The empanadas were delicious and we always get the queso fundido! Unfortunately, sitting on the patio is not for the faint of heart. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come greet us then another 5 minutes for our waters. I'm usually more understanding but it wasn't busy when we came in. The server was very chill and put our happy hour food on the fly for it to come out. It all came out good and tasted great. We never got our chip or tortillas refill and the tortilla didn't come until after the appetizers were finished. Then we ordered our food and it took 30-35 minutes for it to come out. We didn't experience this long of a wait for food to come out (especially without the server checking on us while we were waiting). We ended up boxing up most of our food because we lost our appetite waiting. This was a 3 star service. Overall, I think we will be choosing to sit inside from now on due to how much better the service is inside versus outside.

I had never even heard of an El Torito Grill before, and apparently this is the last one, and wow, it is amazing. The fresh flour tortillas alone are worth the visit. They're so good you could practically make a whole meal out of them. Three of us shared the sampler platter and it was more than enough food. We actually had leftovers, partly because we couldn't stop eating those tortillas and were completely stuffed. Our son ordered the pizza (which he mostly ignored in favor of the fries), but overall it was such a great experience. The ambiance was so fun. They have a sit-down dining area as well as a club-style bar area, which gives it such a lively vibe. And the service was awesome friendly, attentive, and just made the whole experience even better. We absolutely loved it and will definitely be back. Honestly, every time we go to Knott's Berry Farm, I think this is going to be our new go-to spot. So good. Five stars.

Our server, Adrian was the best!!! Super friendly and went over and beyond to make sure we had everything we wanted. I got the build your own combo - grilled fish taco w a chicken enchilada- veggies and black beans. The fish taco was the standout-soo flavorful...I really enjoyed it. Do yourself a favor and get the handmade flour tortillas!! I had a few w the salsa and after my lunch...I had one with the sweet butter for dessert-sooooooo gooood!!

I used to come to El torito grill all the time when I was a kid in the 90s, I remember thinking it was so cool because it was up on a hill, I remember it was always packed and they made homemade tortillas. I was coming to town to go Disneyland so I told my friend I wanted to come, she picked me up and we got there at 10:55am they opened at 11am so perfect timing we sat in the car and waited. We came on Tuesday January 6th,2026 we were greeted by a nice older gentleman that looked to me a manager he told us they were having a lunch buffet for $19.99 a person which is a steal the food Looked absolutely delicious but I didn't see anything I could personally eat with my dietary restrictions. We got seated In a booth and looked over the menu. The setting was just as it was all those years ago very nostalgic for me made my heart happy, the server dropped off chips and salsa as well as homemade tortillas and butter and our drinks, we ordered I got the enchilada and taco combo and my fried got a grilled chicken salad, we sat and chatted for awhile, the restaurant started to fill up with the people that worked in buildings surrounding the restaurant. The food and service were great! So happy I could come and eat here again, can't wait to come again next time I'm in town!

Location was a bit tricky to get to. Google Maps took me to Starbucks instead of El Torino Grill. Restaurant is very nice and clean. Was very busy for a Monday. We had great service from our server and bar tender. Our table of 10 ordered a bunch of appetizers and margaritas!! The appetizers that were delicious were the Pork Belly Chicharron, the Grilled BBQ Ribs and the Beef chorizo empanadas. The angus beef sliders and queso fundido were a table favorite but I didn't not try them. The appetizers that were definitely not good were the Beer Battered Shrimp due to being over cooked and rock hard was a 0/5. The Beer battered Zucchini was gross 0/5. The calamari and the wings were a 3.5/5. Of all the margaritas we tried, the tables favorite were the Pomegranate, Mango and Strawberry. The Raspberry and the Cadillac house margarita were good but not for a second glass. The blackberry margarita and the Melon margarita were just gross. Great service!!

Don't go here very often because it's out of the way, but we had a party there on Saturday, June 6. Cynthia and Joanna were taking care of the entire party of approximately 20 people and they are top-notch. Very knowledgeable Johnny on the spot and patient with everybody. If you get a chance to stop by, try to sit in their area.

I had the mesquite smoked flavored fajitas and I would have loved it more except there was so much gristle I could barely eat it ... let's say I tried .. I really really did cuz the flavor was spot on ... but too much of the meat was inedible . . The server did an excellent job of taking care of me , however ... he doesn't control the kitchen

Adriana was the best server in the world. We came here and waited over an hour to be seated on Mother's Day and that was WITH reservations. Once we got seated she was very accommodating and tried her best to keep up with every table. This place really needs to hire more people. read more

We came here excited for Mexican food. But honestly the food had no flavor. My chicken enchiladas or my chicken tacos. Or the rice. The black beans tasted like they came out of a can. Then my husband said the steak was rubbery and also had no flavor. My daughter also complained that the chicken had no flavor. We were disappointed. The service at this restaurant was excellent from beginning to end. Our server manny was friendly, attentive, and made sure we always had what we needed throughout the meal. They checked on us often without being intrusive and kept a positive attitude the whole time. The Drinks for brunch came out fast , and the overall atmosphere felt welcoming and enjoyable because of the great customer service. We had a reservation. We were seated and someone just quickly set the chips and salsas stacked on top of each other and butter? Not sure what the butter was for if that's a thing.. Our waitress took a very long time to come to us, and when she did she could not for the life of her understand simple drink orders. She seemed a bit hostile too. She also seemed to be the only waitress tending to tons of tables and making tortillas on the side back and forth. We finished our chips/salsa and our drinks still had not come. We waited even longer and watched her walk by us several times. We decided to leave, drinks never came. Such a weird vibe and service. read more

We got two messages saying our table was ready but when we went up to the host, they said that our table wasn't ready. We have hungry children and elderly people in our party. What are the vegan options? Is the chips fried in the same oil as meat?

I strictly avoid oils and fried foods so I'm not able to tell you what I ordered was a plate of lettuce tomatoes Avocado and I also had pinto beans and they made sure it's not cooked with oil it was boiled.

From their Taco Tuesday menu to their regular dinner menu, everything we've had has been delicious. Some of our favorites are the enchiladas, the hard shell tacos, and the soft street tacos. And the salsa is so good -- it's the kind you keep going back for. UPDATE: Management never responded, they don't get another chance. So disappointed we walked out. We feared the service at the front of the restaurant would reflect the service throughout. From my understanding, two ETGs have already been closed down---you would think they would try harder. If they don't need or appreciate my business, that's fine. Made a reservation for Easter brunch. We were on time but our table wasn't ready. While we were waiting, the hostess said our party's name but very quietly, with her back turned toward the waiting area and at the same time calling another party. It looked like she was verifying seating charts with the rude seating coordinator (more on that later) and my assumption was verified when she walked away shortly after saying our name. She didn't so much as face the waiting area or even walk out in the patio as she had done for parties before ours. Nor did she repeat our name several times as she did with everyone else in a loud, clear voice. So we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, 30 minutes later we approached the coordinator at the front. We were very hungry at this point. My sister politely inquired about the waiting time and rather than apologize, he became defensive and said "we called your name"---essentially BLAMING US. We were standing right there the entire time and no one called us after the hostess literally whispered our name earlier. He should have said, "we apologize and will handle your request as soon as we can." There were much more walk-ins than reservations and so I wondered why, at a bare minimum, he didn't notice something was wrong when we were still standing there. Then I remembered he didn't even bother to look up at my sister when she checked in. Even at casual restaurants (supposedly ETG is upscale?) the hostess or coordinator remembers people since it is an opportunity to make a connection. The fact that the customer service was lacking would have been forgivable if we weren't blamed for something we weren't even responsible for. We were on time, we were flexible in waiting and we gave them the benefit of the doubt. I encourage management to view security footage, I only wish I was exaggerating. read more

Despite the holiday rush, Adriana went above and beyond to ensure we felt well cared for throughout our visit. From the moment we sat down, Adriana greeted us with a warm smile and genuine kindness. She was incredibly attentive, always checking in at just the right moments without being overbearing. Even with a full restaurant, she made us feel like we were her top priority. Our drinks were refilled promptly, special requests were handled flawlessly, and she ensured every part of our meal was perfect. What truly stood out was Adriana's sweet and cheerful demeanor. I'm not one to ever leave reviews on Yelp, but the service my son and I received from our server Denise tonight was so over the top, I opened up an account :) Denise was very attentive to our needs and she really made us feel comfortable and at home. We really enjoyed her bubbly personality and how knowledgeable her menu knowledge was. She guided us through the menu like a pro until both my son and I found exactly what we wanted! I've been in restaurants before where i can sometimes feel rushed because of my indecisiveness, but Denise took the time to explain each menu item and with a smile behind her mask the whole time. During our meal my son had an ice-t and I had an ice water...And I kid you not if our glass became less than half full, Denise was there with the "matrix" like speed to fill it up. She was excellent! I'm definitely going to comeback and get the shrimp fajitas and fried ice cream again soon! Came today with my parents to enjoy a nice Little dinner and some drinks and although we didn't expect to end up at the bar I'm glad we did! We got excellent service from Violeta. She was so attentive. Knew exactly what to recommend to eat and drink, I got a Cadillac margarita and my parents went old school with their mai tais. Not to strong and not too weak. Just right on the spot with the drinks. She nailed it. My parents shared an order of fajitas and I got an order of the enchiladas and man did they all taste so great. I got a bite of my parents fajitas with the homemade flour tortillas and I swear I was gonna take their plate instead. Personally the bar isn't as loud as you expect it to be and the wait time was shorter and we get some chips and salsa which is a plus. The salsa was nice and spicy today (not too crazy) but a good kick to make me want to keep ordering drinks. I wanna take a moment to thank Trevor, the manager who was very accodomating to the needs of my handicap uncle and even remembered us when we came back. He is always so helpful and friendly and offers the most authentic vibes. The service is exceptional and Scarlett was our friendly waitress who was very welcoming and allowed our visit to be extemely pleasant. She was on it and very genuine as was all the staff. Chef Alonzo even went out of his way to introduce himself to us and was even talking to my uncle in Spanish (which he loves) and just made us feel right at home. Since my uncle is handicap they have to purade his food and they are more than helpful in doing so in fact they seem pleased to please. Lastly, Eduardo the bus boy was also very sweet and made sure we were taken care of. If I could give this place 10 stars I totally would. Came to celebrate my fathers birthday tonight with my family as every birthday we can spend with him is so cherished. Happy 75th birthday dad. We really appreciate all of the staff here at El Torito Grill. The service is always beyond our expectations but more so I would like to send out a special to thanks to our waitress Violet. She was kind and patient as my father is very picky about his food. He was surprisingly delighted with all of his food and especially his drinks. Celebrating his birthday here has been a tradition with Violet serving us and she never lets a mess build up or a drink go dry. She gathers up as many people as she possibly can so they can do their special el torito birthday song for my dad with a sombrero and he absolutely loves it. Especially the flan that truly is one of his and one of my personal favorite. I really wanted to enjoy my visit to El Torito Grill in Brea, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. The food was overpriced for the quality -- it just didn't have much flavor and wasn't what I expected for the price point. Service could also use improvement. Our waitress was mostly unavailable, and it took a very long time to get soda refills, which made the experience feel a bit frustrating. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was also disappointing. Many tables were left dirty, which took away from the atmosphere and made the space feel unkempt. The most concerning part of the visit, though, happened as I was leaving -- a rat ran across my feet. It was extremely unsettling and really impacted my impression of the restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for quite some time, usually our pitstop on the way back home from Disneyland.......LOL.......but this time our party was bigger than normal due to my son's family visiting from Arkansas, as well. All together there was ten of us. This place has always been one of our favorite restaurants, but this particular time, our visit was outstanding!! Even though we had a larger than normal party, our waitress, Scarlett, was on top of EVERYTHING! You can tell that she is passionate about her job, because no matter what my family was throwing at her (special orders and requests), she was, absolutely, on top of it. Upon arriving, we were greeted warmly by the hostess, which set a positive tone for our visit. We decided to take advantage of Taco Tuesday and opted to sit at the bar area. Unfortunately, we noticed that a majority of the tables were dirty, which was a bit off-putting. It took around 10 minutes for a waiter to acknowledge our party, which was a bit longer than expected. I recently visited this place with my parents last Tuesday evening. The food is absolutely delicious and has that genuine Mexican taste. Chicken enchiladas are the best. Upon entering this establishment we were greeted by Hector who I believe was the manager. He kindly showed us to our table suggesting dinner ideas in the process. He also mentioned who our server would be. I appreciated that very much as I am a huge fan of customer service. Our server Rafa was nothing short of attentive and kind. We felt welcomed from start to finish so we will definitely make this one of our favorite spots to dine in. I should also add that the location made it that much more enjoyable. This place really gave us a great view of what Mexican culture should be and is. Thankful for these two men who made our family time special. read more

I've been coming to El Torito Bar & Grill in Brea for over 5 years and to this day I haven't been treated any different than the very first day I set foot in this restaurant. The food is delicious, drinks are on point (Cadillac Margaritas) favorite drink. The food servers are super friendly (Cesar, Manny & Ralph). though I'm just a customer, I'm treated as a long-time friend and that alone says a lot about this establishment and the personnel they hire. Management is very professional and courteous always checking to make sure my food or drinks are to my liking. That is what keeps me coming back to ETG. They make me feel like family. From the moment we sat down, our server Adriana greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel welcome. Throughout our meal, Adriana was attentive to our needs and went above and beyond to ensure that we were happy with our dining experience. She made great recommendations on menu items and helped us navigate the drink menu to find the perfect cocktails to complement our meal. The meal was delicious! What really stood out to me about Adriana was her cheerful and friendly demeanor. She made us feel like we were her top priority, despite being busy with other tables. We had an amazing experience at El Torito, and a huge part of that was thanks to our waiter Cameron. From the moment we were seated, he was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. He made great menu suggestions, and ensured our drinks and food came out quickly and exactly as ordered. What really stood out was his positive attitude and professionalism. Even though the restaurant was busy, he never seemed rushed and made sure we had everything we needed. It's rare to get service that feels both efficient and personal, but he absolutely delivered. went there couple days ago and ordered the 3 meat fahitas plate. I substituted the steak for shrimp. when my plate arrived I was beyond dissatisfied. it had a total of 6 shrimp on it and a portion of chicken. I asked the waitress if this was considered double shrimp and she said yes and walked away. I wasn't satisfied it was and saw the manager and waved him over. he was immediately very concerned with my meal and dinning experience and said that they are weighed in ounces and usually the shrimp is a 4 ounce portion which comes to 6 to 8 shrimp. he went to the back kitchen and told them to make more for me. he was back in a jiff with a plate of 10 more shrimp and really saved it from being a horrible experience. read more

From loving this place to making the decision of NEVER GOING BACK it's sad and heartbreaking because we are going to miss the friendly staff. But after being discriminated against by Aide, one of the managers, we will not go back. After we notice her attitude towards us we called her over to our table and she said she didn't want to talk to us, a while back someone told us she didn't like us but we ignored that person but now everything makes sense. I already emailed the corporate office and really hope to hear back from them because this lady needs to be retrained. She is working and representing a company, it's not her personal business. So she should handle every situation with professionalism. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years. This has been our favorite spot to eat brunch at. This Sunday I brought one of my best friends here so he could try their amazing brunch, unfortunately things have really changed here, brunch is not the same as it used to be; they don't have a lot of the foods I liked, but more importantly their food quality sucks, not only some items aren't tasty but also 90% of their food is served to you Luke warm! I visited on July 27th for the first time and had an amazing experience. Cameron, our server, was outstanding and made the visit truly enjoyable. Unfortunately, when I returned on August 3rd with my family, the experience was completely different. Despite having a 10:00 AM reservation, we weren't seated or even acknowledged while several walk-in parties were seated right away. When I approached the host to ask about our reservation, she responded with a rude and sarcastic attitude. The lack of professionalism and courtesy was really disappointing. My son and I had an amazing experience at Taco Tuesday at El Torito Grill in Brea! From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and welcoming! The manager Esther and the rest of the staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without feeling rushed! The food was the real highlight, the tacos were packed with flavor, the salsa was fresh and authentic and portions were generous. We also loved the homemade chips and tortillas.
