Came here on Father's Day, and will never be returning again. We made a reservation, yet had to wait an hour to get our table, and waited another hour to get our food. It seemed like the management overbooked. While we could understand the place being extra busy for Father's Day, we did not understand why they didn't cap reservations OR why the food was so atrociously bland. The best thing on the table was the tortilla chips and salsa they serve to every guest. The appetizers (steak nachos and quesedillas) were fine, a little bland but we were just happy to have something to eat after waiting so long. We were so extremely disappointed when the entrees came out. The food looks beautiful, but everything besides the beans were so underwhelming and definitely not worth a two hour wait. I'm not sure if the food was so bland because of how busy it was or if it's normally just like that. I came here after work and honestly, it was delicious. I only sampled the appetizers since I wasn't very hungry. However, they do prepare freshly cooked flour tortillas, which are amazing. The appetizers I tried included small tacos with great meat, and they were delicious. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the bacon sirloin tacos; there was too much cabbage and not enough meat--only 3 or 4 strands. Because of that, I wasn't very happy with them. I also had a salad taco with no meat, but everything else was fantastic. The atmosphere was really relaxing, and the music was quite enjoyable. It wasn't too crowded, nor was it empty; it was just the right vibe. Overall, they offer a Sunday brunch, and I plan to return soon to give it a try. read more

I've had positive experiences at other El Torito's, so I came in expecting the usual. Unfortunately, this franchise feels poorly managed and the kitchen needs serious work. I was seated and waited about an hour without anyone offering a drink not even water. Since I was already seated, they clearly knew I was there, which made it even more frustrating. When the food finally came out, I ordered a simple burger cooked medium rare. What I received was a gray, overcooked patty on a wet, soggy bun. The vegetables looked fresh, but that was about it. I can't say enough about the server she was polite and sweet but it's obvious the kitchen and management are letting the front-of-house down. I hope they tighten things up because this isn't the experience I've had at other locations. read more

This is our first time trying EL TORITO GRILL and we fell in love! The food, the ambience and especially the service. Hector Camacho was our sever and he gave us excellent customer service. We were coming from Disney on a hot day so we asked him if he could give us more water when he brought the first glass and he kept on checking on us and filling our glasses as soon as we were done. We loved and appreciated that so much. We had the tortilla chicken soup and the taquitos, delicious!! Definitely give this place a try. The tacos vampiro were great too. The carne asada y camarones turned out to be a great choice and one of the better plates I've had at a casual Mexican grill in a while. The steak had a good char and stayed tender all the way through, and the shrimp had a nice snap and a light smoky flavor that worked well with the rest of the dish. The staff checked in at the right moments without hovering and made sure drinks and chips were always topped off. It felt like they genuinely wanted guests to enjoy their time. If I could give ZERO stars, I absolutely would. We arrived at 12pm and didn't leave there until 6pm. Literally spent the whole day there. Planned to eat brunch and had dinner LOL. So first off, Mother's Day.. my husband decided to take me and our 4 children for brunch. Waited THREE AND A HALF HOURS to be sat. The hostess was absolutely horrible. Poor communication, extremely arrogant and very inconsiderate. Everyone with a reservation was not being sat at their times. They overbooked and were understaffed. So unprofessional. It was a mess of a situation and us waiting so long, we hoped the service would at least make up for it. They extended brunch just to finally be sat (after complaining there were so many empty tables) we got our plates and guess what, COLD FOOD! That was the icing on the cake. We decided to order from the menu and our server was being so rude after the fact. We informed her that brunch had cold food and she suggested we pay for both brunch and regular menu. I laughed at her and told her to bring the manager. The manager (red hair lady) was very sweet and considerate, of course she didn't make us pay for cold brunch. But anyway. You would think our server would somehow accommodate for the unimaginable wait time, we never even got chips and salsa until we asked for it after waiting 30+ minutes for our food. (Btw the chips and salsa were the only good tasting food on the table) So, 3 hour wait, horrible food AND terrible service. My gosh, this place ruined Mother's Day for me. We spent 2 hours eating our bland food (we were all starving at that point) Even my 1 & 2 year old fell asleep waiting for our food, that's how long we were there. We will never return to this place again. If you plan on coming here for any special holidays, DON'T. Even with a reservation. Trust me when I tell you, they are overbooked and understaffed! Totally disappointed. This place has consistently been a good "go to" for our family. We literally waited almost an hour for our food. I understand it is mother day, but still unacceptable. We made our reservation to give us a 2 hour cushion, but apparently it wasn't enough. The place was a little messy, I could let that slide if service was prompt. Our server was friendly. Oh, btw, no chips while we waited. My wife's steak, was grisly and super chewy, she didn't even eat it. Our first time here at the Brea location and we were quite impressed by the quality of service and the food by this location! I had the shimp diablo and the red sauce was very spicy and tasty, my GF had the carne asada y camarones and she said it was the best she had! Waited this AM to get in for Sunday Brunch. When we made it the door the the hostess inside on a computer picks up the phone and starts chatting with guest on phone. The line is down the stairs as we waited inside to be seated. Once the lady asked us to follow her a tall bald headed man in a black chef jacket interrupted and started talking to her. Once we made it to a table my other guest asked to switch to another table when the host abruptly said "No, this is your table" tapping on table. Sad day We have been coming here for 20 years. At least once a month. Had 3 Christmas parties here. Showed up tonight for our favorite Shrimp fajitas. They changed the recipe Instead of garlic shrimp it's a spicy shrimp. They were so nice they made me a new order but there was no garlic flavor. I'm sad. Now where do I go read more
