This is my first time giving a review. Our family does a lot of traveling. Our travels have us in Indianapolis for awhile. We like to support local, non national chain restaurants. The service was awful. I was served a margarita in a wine glass. The Sangria wasn't a Sangria .The food was very disappointing. My husband only had a few bites of his main dish. Our teenage sons ended up with my food because my husband didn't want to send my plate back. The fried ice cream was decent. The overall experience was very disappointing. Yes,we left a tip. The food was fairly decent as I had ordered through Door Dash. I liked how they included chips and salsa with my meal. I also like how they had the lettuce, sour cream, pico and tomatoes in a separate box so that it would remain fresh and not soggy. A few months ago I saw a banner which says that they are now serving breakfast, and I thought I should give it a try as it is conveniently located next to Costco parking lot. They have a lot of items on the menu- deposited El Toro being a Mexican restaurant, the menu was mostly typical American breakfast like omelette, skillet, pancake etc. they also do have some items with a hint of Mexican food like chorizo and pastor (pork with pineapple). I chose the veggie skillet which came with toasts. A coffee as well. I thought they were all affordable (thank you!). I even got the complimentary chips and salsa. The skillet could use more seasoning, I wanted to add something more flavor but couldn't figure out what I wanted to add to it. The service was great. My server was so attentive, friendly and helpful. Loved the music they played in the background, too (bachata). Overall, great value and this could be my next go-to breakfast spot. read more

Have been here a few times and the food and service is always good and atmosphere is always chill and laid back. I usually get the arroz con pollo but decided to try something different so I opted for the burrito loco. It was stuffed with chicken, steak, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, guacamole, sour cream and covered in cheese sauce with a side of rice. It was delicious and plentiful. It all started when we walked past an El Toto downtown, stomachs rumbling at the delicious smell of freshly prepared corn tortillas... My husband and I were like, "We gotta get to El Toto sometime! It looks and smells so good." Now I'm not sure the downtown location is part of the same chain as the one on Michigan Rd, but the Michigan Rd location was superb! The waiter was very friendly, and although it took a little longer than expected to receive our food, we got our drinks quickly and frequently refilled. The Diet Coke tastes different at this El Toro.. in a good way! I was so pleased with my spicy mushroom jalapeño quesadilla. Thick on the cheese and filling.. the mushrooms were full-bodied as well. No words came out of his mouth but his facial expression showed his attitude. He wiped the table and I thanked him. Still no words.... I really liked this place! Dropped in one weekday for a super late lunch/early dinner. There were just a couple of other folks dining in at the same time, but I did see a few carry out orders come and go. El Toro is not quite as colorfully decorated as some other Mexican restaurants, but frankly I liked it. The dark wood gave it a nicer ambiance. I ordered the vegetarian enchiladas with verde sauce and a side of guacamole. As you can see, the portion was plentiful and I had enough for another meal at home. The guac was fresh and delightful, without any unnatural fillers. My enchiladas were the real star, so flavorful and the vegetables were well-seasoned. El Toro is located by Costco on Michigan Road. The interior is upscale with neutral colors in brown and tan with lots of natural light coming through the windows and garage door. The patio runs along the side of the building with 2 entrances to the patio with one from the front door and second through the garage door (weather permitting). Way to hot and humid to sit out today. I started with a 27 oz. Margarita. It was a tad sweeter than I prefer but still good. They offer Bulldog Margaritas (Margarona) and Texas Margaritas with several sizes from Regular, Jumbo, Monster and Pitcher. The beer options are Domestic Draft with choice of Miller Lite or Bud Light. The Domestic Beers run from Coors, Sharp's, Heineken, Blue Moon and Miller Light. They also serve several Imported Beers. They serve a lunch menu from 11-00 - 3:00 all week. They have adjustable their hours so please check the hours online. The lunch menu offers a little of everything from the regular menu. Lunch prices are very affordable ranging from $5.99 - $7.99. I had the Pollo Sabroso that had pounded, thin chicken breast smothered in red and green peppers and onions then topped with cheese sauce. Served with lettuce, tomato salad topped with sour cream plus a side of rice. I usually leave the rice but I really enjoy the tender, flavorful rice served here. The menu offers appetizers, a large variety of salads and nachos. Several vegetarian nacho options are available as well. Choose from many Burritos, Enchiladas, Fajitas, Quesadillas and Chimichanga's options. The House Plates have a ton of options and well as the Chicken options. My server was very busy (less staff) and it took awhile for him to take my order. By the time he arrived I gave him my drink and lunch order. The drink arrived quickly followed closely by my lunch. I didn't see my server again until I flagged him down for a delicious flan and check. He was very polite and respectful but extremely busy. All was well as it was. I went to El Toro Mexican Cuisine on Friday May 5th afternoon Cinco de Mayo Day with my mom. I've passed by the restaurant so many times, and never checked it out until Cinco de Mayo Day. Ha! Anyways, that Friday the weather was very nice, walked in informed the Hostess just two, we would like a booth. What caught my attention at the Hostess welcome desk is the old train picture that shows Indianapolis and Louisville, and that picture caught my eyes the most due to the fact I'm going to experience my 1st train ride this Summer of June 2023. The restaurant is very spacious, love decor, old pictures on how Indianapolis used to look, nice patio deck for warm climate, and surprisingly on that May 5th Cinco de Mayo Day it wasn't a crowd. Maybe the restaurant had a decent crowd on May 5th that night. El Toro Mexican Cuisine is in a great location, there are no stairs to enter the building. Our Server was Carlos he was helpful on the menu, very professional, nice smile, and a people person. I ordered the chicken(pollo) quesadilla which was my first time ever having pollo quesadilla so yummy, and then I ordered the Texas 16oz margarita peach flavor. Texas margaritas are allegedly supposed to be stronger, but my margarita wasn't at all. Anyways, my mom ordered the tacos duro chicken, 16oz strawberry margarita, and for a to go order she ordered steak and shrimp burrito. Our meals along with the drinks were good, love ambiance in the restaurant, and Server Carlos made it a good experience for us. The atmosphere seems like it would be nice, but there is currently a party in the back area and it's extremely loud. The restaurant is messy and with the number of employees walking around I would expect the crumbs to be picked up. The host tried to seat us at a table covered with crumbs. Really neat new modern Mexican restaurant to the area. Tried them one night about an hr til closing with an ok experience so we have them another shot for dinner This time it was great :) our server was very hospitable and checked on us often to refill water and chips. The food tasted great and they are pretty flexible with substitutions of sides and toppings! The inside is decorated nicely and has a sophisticated touch with nice warm lighting. This is a very passable Mexican restaurant in the old Bagger Dave's location. Service is good and the food is exactly what you would expect from your typical American-Mex restaurant. The decor is not what you wod expect, though. It hasn't been fully Mexicanified (green/white/red, Sombrero, piñatas, etc.) which I kind of like. Mamma Mia, what a surprise! Upscale, tasty, reasonably price Mexican food just down the road. Located in small strip mall next to Costco on Michigan Road just opened this little restaurant. The dining room was empty when we arrived at 5:00 on Saturday. The dining room was trendy upscale and not the usual brightly colored Mexican restaurant. We were seated quickly. I ordered a special 16 oz Margarita featured on the blackboard of specials and my husband selected a Mexican draft. Drinks arrived quickly along with chips and salsa (the salsa was mediocre but the rest was very good.). I ordered house specialty Camarones Supremos for $10.99. The plates were modern and food was played nicely. There was a generous portion of nice size shrimp in a creamy flavorful sauce. The lettuce and tomato on the side were fresh. The rice was also good. But they forgot my beans and I was looking forward to the beans! I asked and server told they do not come with the dish and I asked to see menu. They did come with the meal so he said he would get them. The beans were wonderful, different than other area restaurants. They were creamy, spicy and fresh. I'm glad I held out. My husband had the nightly special, Burrito Deluxe ($7.99). He ordered with beef and it came with a flavorful steak filling. His meal also came with rice and beans. I've only had take out here (I've been mostly ordering takeout during Covid). I always get the Arroz Con Pollo. The cheese sauce is amazing, but I do wish it came with some veggies - but they offer ordering a side of veggies (like the lettuce, pico de gallo, etc) for a minor charge so it's not a big deal. My fiancé ordered their fajita one time (but it was a bit too salty) so this time, he ordered the Arroz con Camarones (with the queso on the side since he's not a big fan of queso smothered on the food) and he loved it. Even when you order take out, they give you a large bag of chips! Their chips were great (just slightly salted) and I used my fiancé's 'side' of queso and also ordered some salsa and guac on the side. Overall, since they are so close to home, I'll order again (and again) when I crave some Arroz con Pollo. Though, their online ordering system (on their website) could definitely use some more details (ie instead of free text, use select buttons). This is because I wanted to order vegetables on the side and I didn't know that I needed to specify, in free text in the comments, which one I wanted. If you're looking for fast, affordable Mexican food in a sit down setting, El Toro is perfect. It's a great spot for lunch or dinner and their food is consistently good. They have really great queso and as someone with a typically small appetite, I appreciate that they have special lunch combos that are smaller portion sizes. Plus, you can't beat the prices. I could leave having a sit down lunch with a drink for less than $12. They also always seem to have a margarita deal going on, which I appreciate! And their food, at least to me, seems less greasy than other Mexican restaurants in town. The servers are kind and attentive and they handle larger groups very well. Good outdoor and bar seating. FINALLY found So-Cal caliber authenticity. Good was amazing. You know how Yelp asks you "Do You Recommend This Business" and your options are Yes/No/Maybe? For this restaurant I truly wish they had a "HELL YES" option. It was truly that good. Walked in on a Sunday night, greeted right away by a friendly girl at the front. Weren't even seated for a minute before a very friendly server came to our table, got our drink order, and was back in a flash with fresh chips and salsa so good that we bought more to go home with us. I had two carne asada tacos (on flour cuz I don't like corn anything) and my GOD! The beef exploded with flavor. They serve them with a delicious house hot sauce that danced in the mouth. Got the quesadilla and the cheese was perfect. My daughter has the carne and shrimp. The carne was perfection and the shrimp was so juicy and mind-blowing. Wife had carne tacos too but got hers with guac and rated as top guac of her life. The ambiance was friendly and inviting. Although they did have weird train decor everywhere but I assume that's from whatever was here before. We are from Southern California and have been spoiled most our life with authentic Mexican food and this is the first place we have tasted in the Midwest that we favorably compared to our old local favorites. We live in Wisconsin now and I would say my only negative was learning that all of their locations are are within a 20 mile circle in Indy. While the three tacos I ordered (2 chicken and 1 beef) didn't necessarily taste bad (though they were oddly dry), the night after was where I truly paid for the meal. I spent the night going back and fourth between the bed and the bathroom due to obvious food poisoning. Not only did the food affect my body in a negative manner, but the service affected my mood in a negative manner as well. The man who served us stopped by our table once, in a rude manner, to deliver the food and was then absent for the next 20 minutes.
