    El Toro

El Toro is a good Mexican restaurant. We ordered the El Toro Fajitas for $19.99. It came with beef, chicken, and shrimp.... with the quantity of each being in that order. There was a lot of beef, and I liked that. The fajitas were served hot and sizzling. They were accompanied by a plater of rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. My wife and I split the fajitas and had ample food, with the complementary chips and salsa. We didn't have any left overs to take home, but we had enough to eat. Unfortunately they do not appear to have great drink specials. Whatever you do, if you like saving money, do NOT order the pitcher of margaritas. It's $22 for 32 ounces. You can order one 16 ounce margarita for $9.... so why not get 2 for $18? I'm not a mathematician but last I checked, 16 ounces plus 16 ounces is 32 ounces. However, even with that, we thought the pricing was a bit high for 16 ounces compared to some other Mexican restaurants we have visited. So, while we went in with the intention of getting a margarita, we ending up sticking with water. They have a good outdoor dining area. They have large garage type doors that open to the patio. Service was friendly and prompt. Sometimes I feel when I sit on a patio I get overlooked by the servers. This was definitely not the case here. And, I think that since the patio feels like a part of the restaurant, this may help. We asked for no bell peppers on our fajitas and that is the way they came.... always nice to get your order filled the way you requested!

If love Mexican and margaritas then this is the place for you!! I had the arroz con steak and it was absolutely delicious! I still dream about it lol I also ordered one of the jolly rancher margaritas and I have no words besides... you need to try it! The staff was amazing and a joy to be around. Not to mention how cute the place looked. I'll definitely be back soon!

6 years later we still love El Toro! In fact, now that they've become so ingrained to the Zionsville community, we love them even more. Their pivot during COVID to offering delivery and their own app was quick and seamless. The app is comprehensive and easy to use. The food is still excellent and I wish I could do it justice with my pictures! Note: Chiles Rellenos have ground beef while I'm fairly certainly Chiles Poblanos are vegetarian.

This was our margarita station at home with their mix, front and center.

I am not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I am pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. We have not been able to go to the restaurant due to Covid but we have been ordering take out and or delivery. We've had the margaritas and all of their appetizers delivered to our home and the entire family enjoyed them. We doctored you the Margaritas just because we wanted for put our own spin on them....delicious. The mix alone is really good.m though. We've ordered from there twice this week. LOVE the queso dip, bean dip, queso fundido and they have a great red salsa. Committed to shopping and eating local!!!

Since we'll be living in Zionsville for a while, we've been searching for our new go-to restaurants. Today we tried Salty Cowboy for the first time, and overall, we were impressed. We ordered the chips and salsa, tacos, and margaritas, and everything was very enjoyable. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. This could have been a 5-star review , but the chips tasted a bit stale and the salsa was somewhat bland and could have used a little more spunk. Aside from that, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend checking out Salty Cowboy if you're looking for good Mexican food in the area.

We have gone to the salty cowboy a lot over the years but we stopped by on Friday night and we were…read morea bit disappointed. We ordered the house margaritas which were fine but nothing great. Apparently chips and salsa are no longer free. I had the short rib taco which was full of meat and quite tasty. The pickled onions on it though weren't really very pickled. They were okay but not great. I also had the mahi mahi taco and it was great and I loved the pineapple salsa.I opted for grilled shrimp but you could get them fried if you want. The big disappointment was the pollo con arroz that my husband ordered. It was luke warm. The waitress said no problem and she could get him a new dish quickly. She came back with that she claimed was a whole new dish in less than 5 minutes! I am sorry you can't make a whole new dish in 5 minutes. The rice was steaming hot. The chicken looked like chunks of boiled white chicken that had a cold crema under them so chicken was not hot. Not a lot of flavor. Very disappointing. Service was excellent.

Walking in, I love spacious seating with low lighting as it feels relaxing. It was surprising to…read moresee it quiet, given it was the time that most people are getting off work. Esperanza was sweet and friendly, very prompt when needed. They have tamarind soda, which I LOVE so much and is hard to find in the Midwest for some reason. The queso fundido was yummy, and we didn't wait too long for the rest of our meal. The quesadilla was VERY generous with its protein, it was almost like a giant taco instead of a quesadilla! My husband enjoyed it very much. He didn't enjoy his torta, unfortunately. I enjoyed my al Pastor tacos very much! They were beautifully plated and full of flavor, with tender pieces of pork. The sweetest thing is, my husband often won't say anything if he didn't enjoy an item, we just take it home and I will alter it to try and make it better. However, Esperanza noticed he only took a bite, and graciously took it off the menu without a fuss. The restaurant even gave us a couple of cute ice creams as an apology for not enjoying the torta. They all went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience. I noticed a couple of people walking in as we were preparing to leave, that Esperanza could acknowledge by name or order, so it's clear they have regulars that they treat with love!
