This is for BRUNCH food... Table for four we all go something different. Mine was the avacado toast. This was great, served on a bed of greens (maybe a bit too much) and I selected the side of seasoned potatoes. Again, the avacado toast part was fine a Latino twist of flavors on a staple. The seasoned potatoes were way over seasoned. Everyone tried them and everyone said "oh wow. That's a lot" or offered their own potato side to share. The tres leches French toast wasn't what we pictured. The fruit was not "in" the bread but between the slices. The bread wasn't the best for French toast (like a brioche would be better) fruit looked fresh and crème part seemed great. Burrito was probably the go to. Looked good, held up well. That came with fries that looked better than my seasoned potatoes. The last plate was eggs, hash browns and carne. He didn't comment if it was fantastic or just ok, so assuming it was at least sufficient to good. His also came with toast. Because it was dry toast, my husband asked for jelly when the server came back to check on us; they brought him butter. I didn't have the coffee, but the rest of my group said the coffee was good. I've passed by 100 times and never stopped, until today. The restaurant is huge, upscale, really nice inside. There are many tv monitors playing a variety of sports with no sound. The bar is lovely, with top shelf liquors in sight. We were seated in a cozy booth. Complimentary chips and salsa came out quickly. The chips were fresh and good. The salsa was chunky and delicious. Alicia, our server was friendly and attentive. She and the manager checked on us multiple times. Service was definitely five star. Periodically, the manager would burst into song as he walked around, creating a festive happy vibe. We ordered lunch specials. The prices were decent. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The plates were hot and beautiful, even artistic. I had steak street tacos. The tacos were delicious and the tangy sauces spiced up the steak. The beans were fresh made - light and good. I loved my meal. My husband had a combination tamale, burrito and beans. The tamale, covered with a mole sauce, looked amazing. He said his meal was perfect. There is a nice patio, where you can bring well behaved dogs. There is a fire place outside that would be inviting on a chilly evening. Food is decent and enjoyable. Been going there for years, since they opened. Service is satisfactory, but variable. More recently they continue to practice what I call annoying policies. For example, chips come with take out orders, but they don't give more chips when you order appetizers in addition to entrees. So you run out. Then they introduced a carry out fee. Annoying. Most recently, they have now added a fee for charging your order. So, I would call these practices as nickel and diming you which erodes the overall experience. So now, I'll go back, but not as often. If they do these pesky things, what are they doing in the kitchen that may be subtlety reducing quality. Like thinner cheese sauce that rolls off an item into a pool rather than being thick enough to stay on chimichanga or other item? We'll see. read more

If you want no flavor, greasy microwaved food this is your place. Rice was shriveled up from reheating, refried beans hot spots, runny salsa -not like FB pictures of thick and chunky. Fajitas has no flavor but grease and so overheated the meat strips were stuck together and so dried out from microwave. I had a feeling when my food cane out 5 minutes after ordering. Very disappointing. especially how good it looks on their facebook page. I think pole people in the Midwest think this is good Mexican just like they think Red Lobster is good sea food lol read more

El Toro is a good Mexican restaurant. We ordered the El Toro Fajitas for $19.99. It came with beef, chicken, and shrimp.... with the quantity of each being in that order. There was a lot of beef, and I liked that. The fajitas were served hot and sizzling. They were accompanied by a plater of rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. My wife and I split the fajitas and had ample food, with the complementary chips and salsa. We didn't have any left overs to take home, but we had enough to eat. Unfortunately they do not appear to have great drink specials. Whatever you do, if you like saving money, do NOT order the pitcher of margaritas. It's $22 for 32 ounces. You can order one 16 ounce margarita for $9.... so why not get 2 for $18? I'm not a mathematician but last I checked, 16 ounces plus 16 ounces is 32 ounces. However, even with that, we thought the pricing was a bit high for 16 ounces compared to some other Mexican restaurants we have visited. So, while we went in with the intention of getting a margarita, we ending up sticking with water. They have a good outdoor dining area. They have large garage type doors that open to the patio. Service was friendly and prompt. Sometimes I feel when I sit on a patio I get overlooked by the servers. This was definitely not the case here. And, I think that since the patio feels like a part of the restaurant, this may help. We asked for no bell peppers on our fajitas and that is the way they came.... always nice to get your order filled the way you requested! read more

Very disappointing experience. We waited an unreasonably long time just to get a refill on our chips, and our server barely checked on us the entire meal. When our food finally arrived, the fajitas were awful and completely lacking seasoning, and some of the meat and vegetables were undercooked or not cooked at all. For a Mexican restaurant, flavor and service should be a given, but both were seriously lacking here. We won't be coming back. read more

The food was very bland!!! For a Mexican restaurant to lack flavor it's heartbreaking, you would think they would flavor their t-bone steaks, rice, and beans. It's not that hard, it needed some garlic/powder, chiles, tajin, parsley, chili powder, cumin, cilantro, salt, pepper, onion powder, Adobo, Sazon..something!!! I'm trying to help them out!!! I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that lacked flavor. I would not recommend this restaurant...I was very disappointed. First time trying El Toro Bravo, and I thought it was pretty legit! Since I'm vegan, I called ahead of time to ask if their refried beans were made with lard or not. The person who answered the phone wasn't sure, but quickly checked and let me know that they're made with vegetable oil. That was pretty exciting for me--I love a good bean burrito. We also ordered guacamole, which was tasty and had a little kick (but wasn't too spicy). We got a big bag of chips with our food, which are your traditional Mexican restaurant style chips--so prepare to eat a ton. Randomly, we also decided to get French fries because they were on the menu. I was surprised that they were crispy (especially for takeout) and actually really good! We'll definitely go back again. 6 years later we still love El Toro! In fact, now that they've become so ingrained to the Zionsville community, we love them even more. Their pivot during COVID to offering delivery and their own app was quick and seamless. The app is comprehensive and easy to use. I am not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I am pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. We have not been able to go to the restaurant due to Covid but we have been ordering take out and or delivery. We've had the margaritas and all of their appetizers delivered to our home and the entire family enjoyed them. We doctored you the Margaritas just because we wanted for put our own spin on them....delicious. The mix alone is really good.m though. We've ordered from there twice this week. A nice traditional authentic Mexican restaurant situated right on the main road in Zionsville near the cvs and kroger. Had plenty of vegetarian options which was a nice change. And plenty of combo options for $8-10. I got the Bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and Chile relleno. The burrito and enchilada was amazing. Gave the relleno to my dinner date bc it wasn't my fav. Overall great quality and taste though. Would return next time I'm wanting Mexican. The chips were fresh and hot & the salsa was delicious. Always nice when the free chips and salsa are delectable. The decor was nice and the atmosphere was chill. It was a bit awkward waiting to be seated bc the staff ignored us for a minute even tho they were staring right at us. The margaritas are really good here! I got a spiced mango marg that had tajin on the rim and I looove tajin. I wish I had asked for it to be added to the marg instead of just on the rim. The servers were nice but the place wasn't that busy and they literally did not check on us once in the 2 hours we were there and we all had empty water glasses. If I had been asked if I wanted a second marg, I probably would have said yes. The food was good, I got a chicken fajita quesadilla but the chicken was pretty dry to the point that I had to spit some pieces out Bc they were not chewable. The margaritas are also pretty expensive as it's Zionsville so they can get away with it. I probably wouldn't come back on my own but my group loves the margs there so next time, I'll eat before hand and just get a drink. read more

Got chased down in the parking lot for taking plastic patron bottles after the waiter specifically told us we could have them. It's fine if we couldn't have them but we asked and got told yes and then got treated like criminals. Maybe educate your staff so customers aren't told something that isn't true and treated like crap for the waiters mistake! read more

The service was not very bueno. The wait took about an Hour. We arrived and ordered at 6:15 and got are food at 7:20, we thought about leaving. I got the Arroz con Steak, Rice with steak. The food was fine but a little cold. The thing that really set me off was that the table behind us came in about 20 minutes after us and got their food in about 10 or 15 minutes, again we did not get our food for an hour. The other thing is that it was not very crowded either, so I don't know what was happening. The Arroz con Steak was not worth $15. read more

After hearing several poor reviews and avoiding this place like the plague, I decided to get outside of the box and take the plunge. I will NOT eat here again. I rarely give only 1 star ratings but this one deserves it. Food quality is poor. I got take out and when I got home, the burrito bowl I got was missing about 5 items. When I called stating I had missing items they suggested I come back just for the missing items. I said I wanted the whole thing remade the correct way because they serve them in metal tins and I couldn't warm it up in the microwave. After arguing back and forth about it, they asked me to bring it back. Gladly! I drove 10 minutes back and they had all of the items in separate cups. Odd. And when I got home and opened those items up, they gave me about 25% of what originally came in the bowl to begin with. Pretty upset and frustrated. Rice was salty. Chicken was tough and dried out. I had heard good reviews of this place so I thought I would try it for myself. It all started when they brought out the chips & salsa. The chips were stale-like and the salsa had the worst flavor I have ever tasted from a salsa- I really think jarred salsa would be better. It had like a strange onion/pepper flavor. My friend and I could not figure it out. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita- it was one of the better margs that I have had but it was not enough to make me want to ever come back. I ordered the chicken fajitas and the seasoning was very strange and lacking and the pieces of chicken were so small that you could barely taste any chicken within the peppers and onions. It was disappointing to say the least, and our server never returned to the table. We sat there waiting for over an hour for our server to return, just for a different female server to return to our table and ask how everything was. Our group of three had dinner on a Thursday evening. The service was SLOW. We had 3 baskets of chips and salsa before our food arrived. We had to flag down a waiter for the refills both times. My dinner partners both order the boss burrito. It's a burrito stuffed with chicken and steak smothered in cheese, shrimp, pineapple and chorizo. I tried to tell them it was a bad idea but they didn't listen. It was too much meat going on that just didn't mesh well and the chorizo was burnt and very dry. I had the chicken fajitas. Our food was brought to the table minus my fajitas. I waited a few minutes thinking that maybe our waiter just couldn't carry all of our plates to the table but ended up having to flag someone down to let them know I was still waiting on my food. The fajitas were pretty good but how can you really go wrong with fajitas? They taste just like El Rodeo's down the street. I do like that they have coupons lol I guess that's a perk and their menu does have some daring choices. They just need to be better executed. We will probably try them again but if they can't get their act together soon they may not be here for long. The service needs to be stepped way up. read more

Not sure if I'll be back. We were looking to go to a Mexican restaurant on a Saturday night and were hoping they weren't busy. When we walked in we honestly thought they were closed because we didn't see any customers and there was not a host up front (it's was 5:30 on a Saturday). A couple groups were seated at the back of the restaurant which is where we were seated. In a nutshell, the service was not good. Our waiter wasn't very friendly, didn't come back to check on us, and there was some miscommunication. Also, the food was just ok- overpriced a little compared to every other Mexican restaurant I've been to. When we received our bill we placed a credit card on it and slid it to the end of the table. We had figured that since no one was at the front of the restaurant when we walked in, we paid at the table. Well, we were wrong. When we went to pay the cashier was struggling to get customers seated, checking people out, and inputing a to go order over the phone. Would love to have management contact me. We have been going to El Toro's for years but will never go there again after the experience we just had. Mistakes happen and all service industry is struggling with staffing issues. Ordering items that were never served, I can deal with. Charging for additional salsa when it was previously free, I can deal with. Getting everyone's order wrong at the table and serving shrimp in a dish when a child at the table is allergic, no problem caught it I can deal with it. Yanking the food from my daughter after she had taken several bites of rice but not the main entree (like you planned to reserve dish) not dealing with that. Like I said, we can never go there again.
