We found this place by accident and I'm so glad we did! This is by far the best menudo I've had outside of my mother's cooking, which is saying a lot. The aguas frescas (horchata and limonada) were also delicious, refreshing and not overly sweet like other places. I'd say this place is a step up from your normal Roberto's. It's a casual restaurant where you go to the counter and order your food, they give you a number, you go pick your seat and they bring your food to you when it's ready. The food was really tasty! I ordered the three enchiladas with rice and beans and my friends ordered the sopes and the chilaquiles. My one small critique is that I like a lot of sauce on my enchiladas and there wasn't much sauce. But the flavor was really good. Came here a few times because I couldn't decide if i liked it or not. I got carne asada and carnitas tacos. And a carne asada burrito. The carnitas was ok i was expecting more flavor. Same with the asada it was plain. The burrito was more beans and rice than anything but decent . I really did like the salsa though. A treasure in an unassuming plaza. Inside is a warm and inviting place with a great and knowledgeable staff. The menu has so many great options that you really can't go wrong with anything. The quesadilla is a great choice; the pastor very flavorful and well made. I appreciate how loaded the carne asada fries as well. I would say this place is average and rather forgettable. I was hoping it was going to be a really authentic hidden gem experience, but for me they missed the mark on flavor and attention to detail. The queso Birria tacos were not crispy at all and were falling apart on contact. The consume was just ok with a slight flavor of cloves which I don't love. I've been to other places where the consume is so good you can't stop drinking it. But this wasn't doing it for me. The menudo was also forgettable, no "mmm's" coming from us at our table and more than half taken home. Was too expensive to not take it. Refried beans were not smooth, and didn't have great flavor either. The rice was really good, fluffy and went well with everything. Cheese enchiladas were good, those are hard to mess up. But the sauce was really red, like Korean food red which looks artificial. I prefer a more natural, muted, home style look for my enchilada sauce. Prices were relatively expensive I thought and the strip mall wasn't the most inviting. Needless to say, this won't be a place we'll be retuning to with all the great options around the valley. 3 stars isn't bad but I'm looking for exceptional. read more

The horchata was very watery when i asked the cashier for a lemonade instead they were happy to give it but unfortunately it was watery as well i would stay away from their drinks in general very over priced for them. I asked for everything without onion due to a allergy and somehow it was still put in the consume which I didn't notice until i got home. The general visit felt very cheap/stingy feeling in a sense when their prices are very market to other good places that will put some meat in the consume instead of just the soup! I give this place a fire review cause it was incredibly delicious. It was bitter sweet finishing that burrito de tripas. I haven't had a burrito that good EVER! The seasonings in addition to the texture made this a top tier burrito. I ordered it medium crispy. When I tell you this was fire, it was next level and I am a Mexican food connoisseur. Amazing, usually go to Aloha Mamacita for a birria fix but usually theirs is too spicy for me because i don't eat anything spicy. However found this place on yelp and by far the best i've ever had. My new go to, my new favorite in town hands down. Compliments to workers and chef. Birria ramen is my new favorite thing, the birria tacos are heavenly as well and quesadillas can't go wrong. We got there about 45 min before closing and they did advise that we needed to order asap or the kitchen would close (like I get inside seating being shut down but the kitchen 30 min early?) a little annoying but it is what it is - also be advised the tiny place has limited seating and its pretty toasty inside so i might get my order to go next time! I hail from the East Coast and have never understood the taco hype. I visited here one day for dinner with a friend and let me tell you - El Zarape was a huge step forward in jumping on the taco train. We tried the birria, carne asada, pollo and (I think) cabeza tacos. They were fresh and warm with soft shells and not shy on the fillings. I enjoy the double shell to keep everything in place and to have an extra shell to use for the over flow of contents from the initial taco. Literally one of the best Mexican food restaurants I have had in my life. My husband is from a small town in Mexico that has amazing food and I'd say this rivals it! Of course they will have off days and maybe the menudo will have an extra piece of fat or an employee isn't the friendliest but that has no bearing on the deliciousness or authenticity of the food. My hubby and I always say it's a good review when you go to a restaurant and the people whose food it is are eating there! First time here, place was super busy and all the food I saw coming out and being served looked good. I I had an adobada taco and queso birria taco. The queso birria taco comes with a cup of beef juice for dunking your taco in it. Tacos were very tasty and the hot sauce was good.
