This place has been here forever and has always been "ok" if not a lot better than just ok. We eat here several times a year, usually when we are coming back from a day at the coast. I dunno if the place has changed owners again but whatever happened they have really stepped up their game over the past several years. The food has always been very good and the wait staff has always been top-notch. Very reasonable prices especially since the portions are generous. But they have made some changes to their clam chowder and it is now excellent. I am from the east coast and very much a chowder snob. The Elderberry isn't the best I've ever had but it is right up there in the top ten. And I'm talking the best in the World.... not the best in Oregon. Their Reuben is to die for and even though it's not on the menu (but is an occasional "special") the cook will make one for you if he has the fixings on hand. The deserts are ok although for us anything with sugar in it is a rare treat. There are better pie venues around if that's all you want. But their pies are prit-T-good. read more

The food is fresh and delicious, the waitstaff is charming and ready to go the extra mile, and the place is tended with a ton of care (well-loved garden out front, display of historic objects in the hallway, thoughtful decor throughout the restaurant). I've only visited this restaurant a few times in my life. The most recent experience was during COVID a month or two ago. I was with my girlfriend and we wanted to stop for a bite to eat, some coffee, and maybe a piece of pie or cobbler. I hadn't been in years, but remember as a child going in with my grandparents on the way to the Oregon Coast. They liked to stop here for lunch on the way to Manzanita. I couldn't quite remember if they had pies here. I was hoping they did, but alas, just a marionberry cobbler a la mode. So we ordered food, and coffee for there, and a dessert to go. It was not super crowded. I didn't expect it to be since it is not near any major city or town. There were quite a few folks in the bar, too many for my liking, so we stayed at our isolated table. The food was good, not great. The service was standard. I'm sure on another day, there may be something much better to come out of the kitchen, but can't say I'd be drawn back to this establishment for the food, rather than the memories. read more

We were on our way to Portland and hungry, and we are so glad that we stumbled into this gem! The minute you pull up you can tell that this place is special because the outside Decour is so unique. Everyone greet us so very friendly, and the service was prompt and personable. We had the hand breaded onion rings, chili, some salads, and the club sandwich. We topped it off with berry cobbler. They have a full bar too. Everything was really yummy and I would most definitely stop there again if I'm ever in the area. read more

We went with a friend who lives nearby. I have drove past my whole life. Service was friendly, food was fine but nothing great in my taste. I had eggs Benedict and it was good but hash browns were super greasy tasting and the only flavor was eating grease. Gross. The Eggs Benedict was not horrible though. If we go back again with our friend I will definitely try a burger. Again, service was friendly. We sat in the bar and we didn't drink but it was fine, just not my fav and definitely would rather try the restaurant side where the environment might not be a typical local bar scene with locals in there that repeat and are loud. I would not come here again and go out of my way too but we would come with our local friend again, just try something different. Literally a road side inn. An excellent stop for a break and a bite on Hwy 26 between Portland and the Oregon coast. Relaxed atmosphere with a friendly and attentive staff. Based on some conversations overheard at the register, looks like this restaurant is also patronized by locals who are regulars. There is a lounge/bar down the hall from the dining area that was bright and clean. The bacon cheeseburger was recommended to me as my waitress's favorite. Wow . Look at the BACON on the burger. My partner and I stopped by here after stumbling out of the woods after camping for a night on the Nehalem River. We've always wanted to stop here and we're so glad we did! We got the burger and the chicken dinner- first things first: the bacon cheeseburger they had here was seriously fantastic! Hats off to the chef! I thought it was WAY better than most burger spots in Portland (I'm an Oregon native and at this point would likely be considered a bacon cheeseburger connoisseur judging by how many ive tried in the Portland area throughout my life!!!) Next, they had a house special chicken dinner: i really thought the chicken itself was delicious, crispy skin and juicy meat. It tasted like something a loving grandma would make, very heartwarming. However I did not care for their mashed potatoes or gravy and I am a mashed potato girl.. couldn't finish it :-/ They have a large menu and imagining the things they need to prep must take a long time, among other things, so not a dealbreaker at all. I loved the historic photos by the restrooms, this place really is an old Oregon gem. I want to try new things every time I pass by on the way to the coast, can't wait to come in again! Our server was fantastic-- attentive, kind and efficient. As a server myself I was impressed, and refreshed to have such a nice experience thanks to her. Last thoughts : I came between lunch and dinner which must be a common dining time for some of their elderly regulars. Its comforting to see older couples getting meals and getting out of the house to some place that must be like their second home. Its special to witness older generations in their "happy place" and it seems like the Huckleberry Inn is something special to many local people along with hungry beach going-travelers. Girls beach weekend!!! Stopped at Elderberry Inn on our way down to Manzanita and had us a good old fashioned meal of a garden burger with salad.. HA! Thought that a place like that had nothing of the kind right? Well you would be Wrong! And the waitress was charming as ever. You could tell she wanted us to kidnap her so she can join in the fun! My partners in crime ordered fried chicken as the waitress stated - get the thigh and breast. P.S. - Don't let the address confuse you. Let me tell you about this little place we always stop by on the way to the coast. It's an awesome little place to pull off the road and get some refreshments. It looks like a little diner, which it is. It also has a very lovely lounge area with big booths you can disappear into or you can just saddle up to the bar. My favorite thing every time time I come through there? The two leg chicken meal with mashed potatoes and gravy. If I am coming from the coast? You bet I'm going to starve just to have their chicken meal. When I'm headed to the coast.. no secret.. I'm waiting until I get to Elderberry for that chicken! The owners are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I am hoping to see them again soon. The waitress and bartending staff are also some of the nicest you will ever meet. We literally waited an hour and a half for our food. By the time it came our kiddos were starving, as were we. :( The food was just kinda meh. Our waitress Virginia was kind and apologized to us several times while refilling our coffee cups. However, I don't believe in tipping the waitstaff poorly because of a slow kitchen so Virginia got a nice tip. We stopped by on the way home from Seaside yesterday and had a wonderful meal. Such friendly people! Lots of history. Love that it hasn't changed much, and is still charming! I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and it was perfectly delicious. Crispy and really tasty gravy on it. He had the liver and onions. He said it was the best liver he had ever had! The split pea soup was fabulous, and the coffee was never empty. The only thing I would want different would to have homeade jam like I remember from when I was a kid. But maybe it's just the people working here that change? We usually stop whenever I and family get in the mood to visit the beach out by seaside? My wife and I stopped at the well-known establishment this summer, the Elderberry Inn. I remember it being a place known well for its food and hospitality most of my life. As a child, I remember it being one of the most popular places to stop and get good food on the way to the coast from Portland, along Hwy. 26. Though it had been some time I had eaten there, at 60 plus years old, I always considered it as one of the best places to eat on this route. But our stop this summer left me with a different opinion. We were venturing to the coast in the early morning this July, when we decided we wanted to eat, went in and were seated, even moved as my wife chose the first table under a vent which was a bit cool for her. We ordered two breakfast meals from the menu, having given our particular details on what we desired and how we wanted it done. My wife ordered a dish with eggs over medium, I had ordered eggs over easy. We got our meals served a little slow which seemed odd as there were only two others besides us who had only coffee at the counter. Our meals arrived to find the bacon was burned, some to the point of being inedible. The orders may have been switched as I got eggs that were almost over hard, and hers over medium but even then would have been other than what we ordered. My wife's meal was a little lacking in quality as well. We both had hashbrowns which were slightly burned on the outside but gooey on the inside and a bit greasy. While we ate, we noticed another couple of parties who came in, put in their order, watched one returned, and caught part of a conversation that included words relating to someone else getting the wrong order. We did not leave our complaint but made the decision not to return. It turned out to be the least enjoyable part of our day and journey. As a former chef, I realize things can be off in the kitchen but I also realize part of the job of the cook is to make sure the food is cooked as ordered, kept in the proper perspective as to which is which, and the server to assure the right meals get served to the proper parties. Unfortunately, they sadly failed at this, as well as putting out quality food as they've been known for through all the time I've known them to be in business. I chose to give this review one star, and that was only because they made no issue with the service dog that was with me. Otherwise, it might have been less. read more

Not impressed Stopped here one evening on our way to seaside to grab a quick bite & let the kids get out of the car. We were the only customers in the restaurant. The place was freezing cold so much that we controls yes getting the food to go & eating in the car. We had burgers they were pretty good but the French fries were skinny crispy and overlooked. The tater tots had been in the fryer too long. We paid $5.95 for a kids meal that was absolutely nothing special again tots & chicken strips were over cooked & hard. A fairly horrible experience overall. We sat down in the restaurant area and the waitress immediately began harassing us for ID. She made two long trips out of the room for each ID separately and then after that demanded we tell her the date we were born. All for some bud light. I ordered a pork chop and my bf ordered a chicken fried steak. The food wasn't seasoned and looked like it was cooked in motor oil. It barely tasted like food at all. We also got complimentary dinner rolls that the waitress forgot to bring until later but they were cold and hard. I nibbled one and put it back. It was the only food we had for dinner and we both woke up in the middle of the night and had to vomit. I wouldn't go so far as to cry food poisoning, but I'd be crazy not to think that this had something to do with it. We are never coming back. read more

Chowder was very tasty. Nice crispy tots. We were with a group that included 5 young kids. Our waitress was great and was able to anticipate their needs. "The Elderberry" as we locals call it, is an all time favorite destination for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think 50's diner and you're there. Since Dave & Nellie have taken the reigns again, the food & service is consistently good - and while the ambiance isn't as cool as Camp 18 down the road, I'd rather eat fresh food anyway. Oh yes, and these guys know how to cook deep fried chicken. SOOOO good, and light years ahead of anything Colonel Sanders ever produced. It's the best 'chook' on the west coast, you won't be disappointed. For lunch, try a milkshake and a Nellie Burger. For breakfast, try the #3 "Mountain" combo w/sausage and an extra egg - its what I always order ;-) and for dinner... a 10-piece box of the awesome fried chicken! read more
