Now, upon completion of the work, I enthusiastically endorse and recommend Elegant Hardwood Floors. None of the problems and issues listed on previous Yelp reviews were evident on my project. Perhaps this is one of those examples where only people dissatisfied vent their complaints on Yelp while the many satisfied customers don't post reviews. Bob and his team did all that the proposal specified. The team refinished the brazilian wood flooring and it looks tremendous. Don't hire Elegant Hardwood Floor!! Period!! After getting the contract, they lag on making any progress on the hardwood floor installation and cause huge delay in other renovation projects. Unprofessional and non-responsive communication. It's merely a 1000 feet2 floor and after more than a month, it's still not finished. Also, no work ethic as they left trash of old wood floor with nails around the house and didn't clean up after being asked many times. Then I called back to confirm the starting date one more time (just in case!). I recently hired Elegant Hardwood Floors (Bob) to refinish the main floor of my 1920s home in West Seattle. After seeing the results, I'm really a fan. Bob did a good job with a tricky floor, and they look like new. Really an amazing transformation. 1. Bid and Pricing Bob's bid was among the cheaper bids we received, which was obviously appealing, but he set himself apart during the quote process. He was responsive and made helpful suggestions. Ultimately selecting a contractor is always a mix of price/reputation/prior work, etc., and I'm happy with what we paid Bob. 2. Quality of Work These floors, white pine, had been under carpets for at least 50 years and had water and pet stains, some quite deep. Additionally, there were some damaged areas that needed to be reconstructed. After the work was finished, I literally couldn't tell where the stains were (and we didn't really use a dark color, English chestnut). The floors looked new and amazing, and he did a very professional job on rebuilding some of the damaged planks around the air vents, etc. Yes, there were a few bits of stain on the baseboard here and there, but not a huge issue since we were going to paint them anyway. 3. Scheduling/Ethics We were in a rush, and Bob managed to fit this large job in (4 rooms and hallway). I got him a key and he let himself in (while we were away) and demonstrated high levels of honesty and professionalism. They came out to give us a quote to refinish our hardwood floors and was reasonably priced. Bob gave us his speech on how good the floors are going to look and would be able to start the next day. Well that being said I said sure, sounds good and gave him the keys. Four days later I get a call and the floors are done. So when I had time I went to go look at the floors and they looked good, but that wasn't the first thing that caught my eye. It was the stained trim I saw all over the house. The baseboard heaters were also stained and he said that they would remove the baseboard heaters. There was also a couple spots of clumped up stain near the edges. And he didn't fill in a spot where it needed filling. But the floors look good. Texted him the floors looked good but can you address the stain all over the trim and baseboard heaters. He replied back and said that I can just paint over it. So I replied if you stained where you weren't suppose to, aren't you suppose to fix it. So in a few days they came back out and painted most of the spots but it was not a very good attempt. And on top of it all he lost the house keys I have given him to have access to the house to do the job. Then gives me $20 and says that's for the key because he accidentally threw it in the garbage. Unprofessional and rude owner. I received a quote for refinishing two hardwood floors. I called back to schedule the work and we confirmed the date to start, which was a Saturday. On Friday night at 10:30 they texted me to confirm for the next morning, I got a call the next morning and I immediately returned this call a few minutes later. WHen we spoke they said since I did not call them that they would not be starting! They told me to find someone else! I waited for this contractor and chose them over others, this has caused significant delays in my projects costing time and money! read more

Update: Changed the rate from 2 to 3. Called and explained that Bob went to another client's house and thought that was me. He came again to my house and answered my questions. I still decide to work with them. However, due to he came one week late, I missed the deal on the lumber. The unit price increased $1/sq ft now. Had to pay $1000 more for the lumber...Will update again for the work result. ------------------------------ Came and gave a competitive quote on nail down installation. We decided to work with them and then went to the lumber liquidator where we were told not only plywood subfloor could be applied nail down installation. We got a few pieces of sample and called Bob to ask him if he could come to the house again to make sure if nail down installation method was appropriate and would like him to help choose from the samples. The call was made Wednesday. He said he could come on weekend. I asked if he could let me know earlier around what time on weekends as we had other plans. No reply. He then texted early sunday morning and said he could come at 2pm. I replied okay. Then at 2:30pm, he called and asked if 5pm was okay with us. I said yes again. Then no show, no call, nothing since then. Very unprofessional. To be honest, my husband and I are new homeowners. We just told him we wanna solid hardwood but didn't ask him to check the subfloor the first time he visited. So if you are experienced homeowners and know exactly what you want, Bob might be good for you based on other reviews here. read more

We just bought a house with carpet over the hardwoods and had the owner out to quote us a price to have the floors cleaned up. Without even looking at the floors, he insisted that we needed to refinish all the floors. We called him back to let him know we were going to pull up the carpet and tack strips and evaluate the condition of the floors before hiring him. He continued to insist that we commit to having the floor refinished and when we told him that we wouldn't, he told us not to bother calling him back. So we won't. I am very happy with the job Elegant floors did. Our steps look incredible. We have dogs and part of our home is already Oak wood so Oak was our only choice and I wanted it done right. Bob is a master at his craft and dedicated to a very professional job. hey ripped out the old carpet and padding on my steps and landings and installed Oak flooring and treads. I am very pleased with the way this turned out. Bob the owner went to hard wood floor install school in San Franciso and applies the details and trade experience to his job. He even built a special tool for installing step treads to get a tight fit and finishes with details called a Kosher? in the cracks of every step so it looks completed. Not everyone uses this detail because of the extra time. I really like Bob and his crew is very hard working. I had 26 steps and 3 landings done in factory selected Oak the stair treads are solid Oak unlike the pressed and glued treads from a big box store. This project took 4 days from start to finish and he will be back to install the base trim so a total of 5 days. I will say if you are planning on hardwoods it is a very dusty process with the cutting and sanding. My advice is to plastic tape off the area in which they work for more dust control. His estimates is free and his price is very reasonable. I like Bob and will recommend him to everyone I know in need of wood flooring. read more

Very annoyed!! Made an appointment to get an estimate and 5 minutes before the time we were supposed to meet he cancels on me and says it's because of an 'emergency'. Okay, I'm not unreasonable, stuff happens, so I reschedule for the following day. After he was over 30 mins late I called and he FORGOT about my appointment!!?! I can't even dignify this company's quality of work with any stars. We hired Bob and his crew to repair and refinish our oak floors in our 1920 bungalow. He promised the floors would be perfect after his team finished; replacing some stained boards, filling cracks, renailing and applying 3 coats of finish. After the first go around when he came to be paid for his job and we refused as the quality of work was substandard, Bob agreed that his crew had not delivered the standard he promised. He himself would fix the issues. After another week of workers in and out we still have a floor with noticeable lines of finish, circles in the finish where we can only imagine he left the buckets sitting, inconsistent color where obvious sanding was done and not blended. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE! They don't know what they are doing, nor do they care. Only want your $$ no follow through! read more

Bob did a great job on refinishing the floors in the house I just bought as well as putting new ones in. He made suggestions about how to do it that turned out to be spot on correct. And when they pulled up the subfloor, he said he wouldn't lay the hardwoods on my kitchen floor because it was too weak. He would have fixed it himself, but my brother was able to (the cheaper route of course). If it hadn't been for him, my kitchen might have become dangerous in the years to come (literally, the "support" was more like a diving board there). Oh, and in the area where he was laying new wood, he worked hard to level out part of the floor that had some major issues. I did pay him a little extra for that as we didn't know that was a problem until we pulled up the subfloors, but he didn't charge very much for it and he worked half a day on fixing the problem. I got the better end of the deal on that one. He gave a good price and was able to complete the work quickly. I had read some of the negative reviews and was a bit nervous about using Elegant Hardwoods, but I figured out that if Bob was involved, all would be well and I was right. I have a sense that the issue with some of the bad reviews here on Yelp is about communication. You just have to make sure that both sides understand what's going on - from the quote to the final payment. I would definitely use them again. read more

Don't hire elegant floors!!! We had a simple job to do, 900 ft.² of oak flooring in a 20s bungalow. There was some water stains in one small area, and some pet P P stains in an obvious place. Bob, the manager or owner gave us a bid of $3000. The bid included changing out floorboards in a 15 square-foot area where the dog P stains were. It was going to take three days. What happened was, they turned boards over and made a rip on one of the boards and glued it with some shiny glue and it was so obvious it was just terrible. They also left Big brush strokes. Bob assured us they would make it better. What they did was made it worse! Instead of brush marks and a spot with shiny glue, we now have great big rings where they left the finish container sitting. And more brush marks! It really is not even as good a job as we did 30 years ago and we didn't know we were doing! Let me reiterate; Whatever you do don't hire elegant floors. read more

We had Elegant floors come out to refinish our existing floors. Initially we were happy with the installation knowing that they would have to come back to do transition strips from the tile floors to the wood floors several months later when we finished the tile job. After a few texts they came out and told us they would finish the job for nothing. Then it took multiple texts phone calls over several weeks time frame to have them contact us that they would do the job but they wanted over 100.00 to finish. We were over a barrel so we agreed. Then... they did not have the correct equipment and the strips have damage to them from them installing them. They were not interested in fixing the damage so we ended up getting a stain pencil and at least covering up the unstained wood areas. We will have to do some fill and also hammer down a nail that is still sticking up from the transition strip. I'm not sure what happened here but what started out as a positive experience ended up very negative. read more

Had Bob come out and install bamboo floors last summer. There were a few issues with the quality of the installation and a worker wasting extra trim we special ordered due to "wrong cuts". Bob came out after I contacted him a few times and attempted to correct the problems which was nice. We also paid extra to install baseboards throughout our home after the floors were installed. He had his workers simply cut and nail in the baseboards. I asked if he was going to caulk and paint the boards and he said that it was easy for us to do by ourselves.
