Vicky is the best wax professional around! Best Brazilian I've ever gotten - she has a way of waxing that makes it extremely less painful. She is the only reason I give this place 4 stars. Ok first off I love this place. First time I went they took me in without an appointment. Carol is amazing and was such a sweety pie to me. They fit in my gel mani and pedicure at the end of the night. I always feel bad because I know that everyone wants to get home but they did not rush my services and were very respectful. Not for nothing the best experience in a nail salon. Front desk staff were awesome helped me pick out colors took my bags and served me lemon water. This place is great great great. I had the "elemental" pedicure last week and it was amazing. My feet were callused, peeling - pretty unattractive. After an hour with Mimi, my feet were softer and smoother than I thought possible! I left with no traces of dry, dead skin on my soles. She did a great job on the polish and also gave a looong foot and leg massage. Because I was so happy being pampered, I decided to throw on a standard manicure which was also very good. At Elemental, they give you a brief shoulder massage while your nails and toes dry. I wanted to like this place. it looks clean, people seem nice. Overall it appears to be an upscale, professional establishment. Unfortunately, I cannot return. I have been twice for eyebrow waxing, both times upon coming home and looking in a magnifying mirror, I noticed plenty of missed hairs. There is no excuse for that, though I should have noticed before leaving the place. Next, I got a mani/pedi which looked great when I walked out, though within 2 days of very minimal labor, both were completely chipped. That makes no sense. When I do my own nails they last at least 4 days. Shouldn't a professional job last at least that long? Lastly, I was overcharged. I was told a price at the register for my waxing, mani, and pedi. I did the fast math in my head and thought it sounded high, butI didn't want to be "that lady" who is haggling over the bill in front of all the other customers. I assumed I was wrong and was on my way. I checked the price list on the website when I got home and sure enough i was over charged by almost $10. Not cool. When I walked in, loud rap music blaring on the TVs....not exactly what I associate with relaxing spa environment. But then I was led back to the little massage room, and had a truly amazing massage with Lenny. The best I've ever had in NYC. Note that he is not for the faint of heart. I wish I could give two separate ratings for an excellent prenatal massage (4 stars) and an extremely questionable bikini wax (1 star). Carol did the prenatal massage and was wonderful. She took some time before we started to talk through what I needed and did a great job on everything that hurt. I would definitely see her again. I can't remember the waxer's name - I had gone in for the massage and decided to get it done while I was there. Terrible idea! The waxer put the pot of hot wax on the table between my legs, VERY close to some sensitive spots. She not only reused strips but put the used strips ON MY FEET in between uses - so gross. And while every other waxer I have seen has been careful to keep her hands on my skin, this woman....wasn't. The end result was fine but this was the most uncomfortable wax I have ever had. read more

Horrible experience here. 4 of us went to this nail salon. My friend had to go to the doctor from the gross pus filled infection she got around her nail when the woman aggressively cut her cuticles. We all got the same services yet upon leaving I found out was charged way more money then my friends. I called the manager 3 times in one week to get a refund and finally heard back today and she said she could not give me a refund because she can't verify the prices that my friends were charged verses mine-makes no sense. She wasted 30 minutes of my time, going back and forth about why she can't give me a refund and I still have no clear answer. Expensive for no reason and horrible service. I've been coming here since I first moved to Brooklyn 7 years ago and since then I've moved to Manhattan, queens and the Bronx and I still make the trip all the way down here to get a manicure/pedicure! I've tried other places but realized there really is no where that even comes close. Family run business. Decided to treat myself to a pedicure and was highly disappointed by the quality of service; the place is very clean and pretty but that does not mean that my pedi was up to par. I'm not sure what they consider to be a pedicure but this was not the experience I expected I do not go to a nail salon get my feet washed and painted I go and pay to have them properly scrubbed my nails to be cleaned but unfortunately that was not the case. I would not recommend this place if you'd like to have your feet cleaned in the proper manner but if you only care about how pretty the place is then I guess you would want to check it but I refuse to pay $27 to just have my feet washed and painted. This place is the best nail salon in park slope! The service is amazing, the salon is very clean, and their manicures last forever without chipping!! I love that they have a nice bar in the front where you can sit or even stand while you get your nails done. They always offer water, and are as nice as can be. I really love this place. Really quality work for a decent price. I don't feel rushed when I come here. They always offer some sort of weekday special that varies from week to week, which I love. I once tried the Milk and Honey pedicure (which was incredible) and they tacked on a free treatment with it. Nice massage at the end of it. Sometimes it can get crowded so be thoughtful about picking a less busy time. This is my new go-to place! read more

Just got XLNT manicure/pedicure (from Dolma). This place has great vibe, diverse clientele including guys, and even has iPads along w/magazines in nail-drying area. Had to ding it down one star cause it uses those outdated water whirlpool tubs that can engender fungal infections. (just had to ask Dolma to turn mine off). What a cute place! The decor was chic and rustic. I got an outdoor pedi which was super relaxing. They even give you a cold beverage while you sit there. My mani came out great too! Great chair massages! I found this place after my other place was booked one day and I actually like it better. The chair is in the back so you're not out on display to everyone and the massages are really good - firm pressure but not to the point of pain like a lot of places. They carreid my backpack back for me and gave me lemon water afterward. They also use lotion (if you want it) on the upper back and neck. I don't get manicures and am not the girly type so I felt a little awkward when I wanted to add a foot massage and I was up on the pedicure bench getting a foot bath, but I must admit it felt pretty luxurious. Also I usually can't stand the smell of polish fumes, but I didn't smell them at this place. (Granted I had a cold at the time.) Prices seem comparable for the area. No amazing deals or anything, but not more than most other places. read more

I got a bikini wax and at first the area was a little inflamed, but by the time I got home the damage was much more apparent. I've had waxing done at other places without any noticeable bumps or redness afterwards so I'm not sure what exactly went wrong....but I definitely can't vouch for their bikini's. Very disappointing mani pedi for the above average price point. You should go literally anywhere else. Especially if you're not white. I called ahead and made an appointment and I arrived on time. However, walk ins got served before I did and were offered tea or water while I wasn't attended to at all for upwards of 10 minutes. My assigned esthetician ran around and made me wait in a pedicure station for over 20 minutes after I was seated - she cared so little that after she turned on the hot water to fill up the foot soak tub, she walked away for so long that the tub almost filled up all the way. Another worker had to run over to turn off the water before the tub would have started to overflow. Insane. Serious observation: white patrons all around me had their coats taken and hung up, were offered tea and water, got neck massages after their service...I barely got attention from anyone aside from when I was asked to pay. Sure the music videos are cool and the color selection is nice but overall it was a really uncomfortable service experience. Avoid this overpriced and mediocre salon. read more

I've been going to Element for a few years and have always had very good experiences. The massages were good and reasonable and I could usually get an appointment when I needed one. I started going there for waxing about 1 1/2 years ago because i didn't want to spend over $100 for a brazilian anymore. (even though it was always excellent) The waxing here is never as pristine as i'd like and sometimes they leave residue which is annoying but not enough to dissuade me from coming back, especially for around $50. Until yesterday, that is, when i went in for a brazilian and upper leg waxing. The woman, though nice was a bit rough and didn't trim the hair short enough so it was extremely painful (which it never usually is) . Plus she had me stretch my skin so tight that the skin between my inner and out labia tore--I have a nearly 2-inch gash that hasn't stopped bleeding and is really painful. This never happened at the other salon i used to use. She kept saying that she didn't know how that could happen, and that she didn't put any wax in there. She was apologetic, but not very caring. It seemed like she was hoping i'd let it go and say nothing. But when I went to pay I quietly told the receptionist about the tear and the manager took a look, was VERY apologetic and refunded my money. It's a drag because aside from hurting like hell, I have to curtail all sorts of activities. I do really like it there--it;s close, reasonable and pretty easy to get an appointment. But even though the manager was wonderful, I am reluctant to go back. read more

I've now been frequenting the Element group of nail spas for well over 7 years and I noticed that my last review is over 2 years old so an update was in order. Although originally, the only location called Element was this Park Slope location, now the family has smartly joined forces and have at least 5 locations throughout Brooklyn under the Element umbrella. All locations have different vibes, different staff and different pricing. However, the quality is consistent and most importantly the hygiene and service doesn't waver no matter which one you go to. I typically go to the Church Avenue location which is low key, very clean and where my long time nail partner Dio always does a great job. The nice thing about this location is that the pricing is a bit lower than the others - I'm guessing because expenses/rent in this area are lower than Park Slope and Cortelyou. I recently visited the brand new Cortelyou location which is closest to my home and it's quite beautiful inside and also super clean. Keep in mind that Park Slope and Cortelyou close later than the others so that's a great feature for anyone who works until 6pm or later. Element is head and shoulders above most comparable nails spas for a lot of reasons: I'm pretty sure it's the cleanest spot in Brooklyn, they are fair to their workers, the Park Slope location has a wonderful outdoor section with pedicure chair which is nice when the weather cooperates and is a good change of pace -- how many places have a patio where you can enjoy your nail services? Carol gives great massages, Vicky does great waxing and nail services and Chloe is an artistic genius with nail art if that's your thing and they have nice customer loyalty programs (a point-accumulating card at Church Ave and a discount at Park Slope) ...there's no reason to go anywhere else for nail services in Brooklyn! read more

I've been going to Element since they opened and will never go back to the cheap nail salons. It is pretty, the people who work there are very nice, the products they use are great, and they do great hand, foot and neck massages with every manicure/pedicure. It doesn't have that chemical smell the cheap places have. They offer lemon water or tea when you arrive. Vicky and Roma are particularly good. I feel pampered and relaxed when I leave, instead of feeling like I've been through a conveyer belt, and I get the impression that the manicurists are treated much better than in the other spots. Even though it is about 20 percent more expensive, I prefer to go less frequently and enjoy the service and atmosphere. I've also had brow and lip waxes there and they use a very gentle wax. this is typically my go-to spot for mani pedis -- i pass by three other salons on my way from my apartment to this place, yet it's always been consistently great in the past so i felt it was worth the extra few blocks (especially in the freezing cold). you would have typically heard me sing their praises. until today. the woman doing my pedicure was a bit rough during the cuticle trimming. she progressively dug deeper and deeper and harder into the skin of my big toe until it started hurting and suddenly i felt a sharp pain. she apologized, but i was already bleeding a little. i mentioned this to the woman checking me out but no offer was made to discount payment. word of advice: be cautious about who you have complete your mani-pedis. half of the staff there are very good and the other half are careless. because of this experience i am actually uncomfortable with going back, and may go to a different salon from now on. read more

I came to element last Saturday afternoon and it was a lovely atmosphere. This was my first time at Element so I called about 20 mins before I arrived to confirm there was no wait which was great. The lady who did my pedicure was very kind and gave a great leg massage. They don't have the price of the standard pedicure on the menu, but it was $28; however she didn't pressure me to add any add-ons or upgrades which is rare lol I told her I would take the heel treatment for the extra $8 and she let me know that I didn't really need it which was nice. They also offer pedicures OUTSIDE in the summer you just have to call and book in advanced which is awesome. They also offer water & as well. Overall it was good service and a nice atmosphere. Now for the cons: the seating is uncomfortable because your sitting at a bar with a straight back, not a seat so you can't really relax. Also the next day I noticed my pedicure was kind of average. The polish wasn't super neat and I had to cut down my big toe nail to make it even with the other. Besides that it was a typical pedicure experience, I may return to try the outside pedicure. read more

Hi! I am writing my first review on yelp and this is not a good review. I was going to this place for years and I was only ok with the job they do. I was thinking, oh, maybe they'll do better next time, but no! As prices go up (every time now I got charged more and more for the same many pedi-it used to be 35$, now it's 39$ plus tip so the total is 47$-almost 50$!) The last time was my last time, I had such a poor job done on my mani! I am so upset! I spend about 100$ in that salon every month and they don't even try! They don't keep a good truck of usual clients. They don't remove cuticle to the end, it always shaggy, and they dilute all the nail polishes! Even the gels! I saw several times they were sitting at the mani station diluting polishes and putting them back up on display. It does matter on the quality of the color! It only stays ok for a day! Overall they are nice and polite and the place is pretty clean. read more

I went to Element yesterday and had a painful 60 minute massage. The masseuse dug his elbows into my back repeatedly and overall used too much pressure, I literally said "ouch!" several times and said it hurt and to go lighter. He blamed it on "my tension" but I blame it on his technique. There were elements to the massage which was good but altogether this was not the relaxing message I hoped for and my body feels worse now than before the massage - I am hoping a hot tub and swim helps my achiness! read more

I came here this past week and it was amazing!!! I got a milk and honey pedicure and it was just so relaxing, I felt like I was at an actual spa. Not only was it an extremely calming and SUPER SQUEAKY CLEAN environment I have to say I received some of the best customer service I have ever received at any other salon I have ever been to. Everyone was so detail oriented from my technician (who's name I forgot :( ) who kept making sure I was comfortable and kept asking how I would like my nails to be shaped and how I would like my cuticles to be maintained, to the receptionist with the great purple hair who asked if I wanted any tea or water and even helped me wrap my toes after I finished drying because I like to take extra precaution! There was absolutely nothing "standoffish" about this place despite being a high end nail salon at the heart of park slope; I felt relax, welcomed and at home. I got an upper lip wax here for $8, which was a great price considering other spas in the area charged $10-15. I liked the private waxing rooms that they had in the basement, whereas other places I've gone they give me lip waxes in front of everyone. Embarrassing! The TV on the ceiling was an added perk. They played music videos from artists I had never heard of, but the music was great. Ana was really nice and did a great job. The decor and atmosphere was relaxing and soothing.
