Speakeasy! Wow, and great bartenders. No photos are allowed. You put your phones inside a sealed case when you arrive before you go in. Make sure you get the case unsealed before you leave (or you'll have a lot of fun getting your phones out). We dropped in without a reservation. If you are allowed in, you get 90 minutes and then it's time to let someone else in. The capacity is 28 people - it's a small place, but that makes it better to watch the show as the bartenders do their magic turning various fluids into tasty drinks. They hit capacity just as we arrived, so we had to wait 30 to 40 minutes until someone left to open a seat. Some notes: You wait outside. No, you can't come in to wait. No spoilers on what happens after you get into the vestibule. That's part of the fun. You WILL BE CARDED. We're older, and they card EVERYONE - without fail. One of our favorite speakeasy's and it's totally worth the wait! My cocktails are always absolutely incredible! The service is great and everyone is super friendly. The bartenders are amazing and they know their stuff! Their old fashioned and penicillin are some favorites but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The ambiance is super cozy and I love how intimate the space is. I also LOVE that you can't use your phone inside. That makes this place even more special. Decent speakeasy with a couple of oddities. Unlike most speakeasies I've been to this establishment requires you to walk up to the bar and place your drink order versus having a server take drink orders. We were not aware of this policy and sat for about 15 minutes before realizing we had to walk up to the bar and place the order. The drinks were good but not great either. The margarita was surprisingly below average as it's a simple drink and hard to mess up. The old fashioned was very sweet. I heard that Paso had some really fun speakeasies and I can confirm that this is one of them! My friend and I waited for maybe 45 min to an hr because the place only fits about 25 people but it was totally worth it! The place has a fun library theme that carries throughout and as we sat by the bar, we chatted with Paige who was a super friendly bartender! She made a great recommendation of trying the banana cocktail drink which was a perfect balance of sweet and how all cocktails should be! Would definitely recommend trying this place out! read more

Great cocktails but terrible front of house. Our reservation was for 6pm, we were there at 6.04pm and waited in line for 30 min. Getting to the front of the line the lady at the door told us our reservation was cancelled as we 'were late' and that she has asked for anyone with a reservation. That was certainly not the case as we had been there the entire time and everyone in line could attest. Let me back up, I would have loved to have tried this place but when I showed up and rang the bell a staff member said the whole place was closed; the kitchen was being deep cleaned. The place is small, but intimate. I love the no-phones policy. It really made the date so much more intimate, as we were completely focused on each other only the whole time, very romantic. I didn't realize what a small oasis it was until I stepped out to use the restroom and heard the loud, blaring, rap coming from Pappy's. I love speakeasies and this one def knocked it out of the "bar" park with the no cell phone rule. You literally have to give them your cell phone for them to put in a magnetic pouch that only they can unlock. Unless you're the hulk like the door person said. So you're teased all night wanting to grab your phone to take pics of the beautiful cocktails the mixologist just made only to grab the damn pouch instead lol. If you need to make a call you're asked to stepped outside in the hall and they will unlock the pouch for you. I recommend sitting at the bar. There's no table service so you have to order at the bar anyways. The main mixologist knows his shi@%, every drink he was making ties into your 5 senses. The way he described their version of the old fashion, almost made me get one. But I know better, both my eyelashes would have fallen off with that drink. read more

Found out about this hidden speak easy while watching the Dodger Game at the Pappy McGrego. The server was very nice to help us to check the waiting time while we were having dinner. Rang the door bell and a friendly lady dressed in a nice prohibition era suit opened the door, she then explained the NO photo, NO phone policy, and we have 90 minutes to enjoy the drinks. She then locked our cellphones in a velt pouch. We found seats at the bar, and it was a treat to watch the bartenders made the drinks. I guess the most popular drink was the Old Fashioned with the smoked simnimon and slice of orange peel. Almost all the drinks had the eye catching presentation and fresh flower/ herb decoration. We enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere, the jazz in the background. Even the way they present the check was unique, it was insert to a real book/journal, which you can write a note in it! This is probably one of the most intriguing speakeasy I have experienced. I realized it is a part of a chain of restaurants in that area. Upon walking in you must check in your phone and it gets locked into a pouch. The two bartenders were really great. Lester and Eric I believe were their names. I maybe wrong. I had two drinks which were perfect. The delivery and taste was delightful and refreshing. The bartender made me one where I wanted him to surprise me. So you make an appointment which allows you access to this speak easy behind pappy McGregors. I definitely like the idea but was a little disappointed. You go into a pre area where rules are explained and phones put in a locked pouch you carry with you. Its is very dark and if you're a bigger person your squeezing through a small gap into a small booth to sit. You have to get up from shortly after because all drink orders are made at the counter. The decor was awesome, and the courtyard is pretty blocked from the wind and had a ton of heat lamps. They have a lot of tiki drinks and the bartender definitely didn't hold back on the alcohol! It was entertaining to watch the bartenders create unique drinks which included burning a cinnamon stick & smoking drinks in a glass dome. I'm a novice at all these specialty drinks & Matt was very friendly & answered all our questions. The specialty drinks were good & ranged $14-18. The decor is on point as well. They lock your phones in a bag that you keep with you. However they did unlock a phone for my friend who had a sick family member at home, she just had to ask & step outside in the hall. Highly recommend making a reservation on days that are allowed on their reservation calendar, otherwise expect to wait in line. Upon entry your phone is asked to be stored in these pouches that are locked during the duration of your experience inside. They are unlocked upon leaving at the door. Bummed that I could not take pictures of my surroundings or drink, but at the same token glad they do have that rule. Ppl have lost sight of conversation and it truly does force you to be in the moment without the need to look at your phone every ten minutes. Stumbled upon this when looking for unique experiences in PR. We were also going to be in PR early evening and late night so for the latter time point this is one of the few places open past 9. They do reservations on Tues, Wed, Thu and state walk-in only for Fri, Sat, Sun. However yesterday while waiting for our timeslot we found out there is a sneakeasy pass you can get, where you pay upfront and get an allocated time point to show up. However those are very limited and it's majorly walk in. There's lots of free street Parking and it has as easy access ramp entry and exit. At the entry, they check your id, stamp you and you wait under heat lamps for your turn. When there's wait line, every party gets 90 mins max time and they have an Indoor capacity of 25. So the wait can be long and painful. We went in around 9.50 pm had two parties of two ahead of us and our turn came at 11 pm. We were a little sapped of energy and joy by that time. Before you enter, they put your phones in locked sleeves and you can only get them out either in the exit alleyway when you ask for timeout or during check out. They are doing this to mimick the prohibition era where there weren't phones and want u to not take pictures and be more present. Like other speakeasies this one also has a secretish entryway but it's pretty usual. When inside we saw around 3-4 table/booths on either sides and bar seats. We were seated on one table for 2 on one side, but the tables across as well as on the other end were empty. It was hard to understand why we were waiting that long. Maybe that's to allow better service or maybe they're understaffed but if you wait for over an hour and see an almost empty room, it can be pretty irritating. We tried their signature chai armagnac and a fall special, crimson cranberry one. Both were good, chai was a winner. Drinks came out fast. Also the atmosphere inside is warm/dark and they had good jazz music so it was easy to relax. Would I recommend? Maybe on days with reservations or if you have a lot of time to kill and are not tired waiting in lines. read more

We stumbled into the alley, made our way around the corner and saw a line of about 10 people standing and decided to join. Once we reached the front of the line, we were greeted by a hostess to enlightened us on what we would be experiencing. We chose to sit at the bar instead of the tables. What a treat to watch the Crafters produce such amazing, creative and tasty cocktails. I've never had an egg used before except in protein drinks but this was different. The experience was fantastic because it was Halloween weekend and the bartenders were in costume which made our visit an event. The atmosphere is fun and very intimate. Super small inside but a great speakeasy experience. The doorbell host was sweet and friendly. I just hate that they took away our phones, I couldn't take any cocktail pictures! I have to be honest the drink I had wasn't that great, I can't send back a drink, I've never done that and I just can't. I just downed that sucker super fast and moved on to a better choice. I believe the one I didn't like was called stiletto something...sorry forgot the name. The second drink was fruity and sweeter but more enjoyable it was called a rum runner maybe? The "rules" increased the mystery to this speakeasy and I definitely appreciated them.
