After seeing the Hyundai Palisade on the road, my wife and I decided we wanted one. In alignment with modern day technology, we contacted various car dealers and received an attractive quote from Elgin Hyundai on Wednesday, with explanation that the quote expired on Saturday. We were told that an appointment was needed to ensure the vehicle was clean and ready. An appointment was offered that same day; however we declined until Friday. On Friday morning, we received a call confirming our appointment. We arrived to our appointment and the car was filthy! The salesman apologized and shared that the dealer had received 60 new vehicles that day. We went for a test drive, and the vehicle pulled terribly to the right. The salesman apologized and said that the vehicle had not yet gone through inspection. While my wife and I discussed the purchase, the salesman went to speak with his manager. Upon his return he apologized and shared that the vehicle had arrived on the lot that morning, which is why the car had not been cleaned or inspected. A blatant lie - We left. A couple hours later the online sales person called us. Foolishly we returned. The car had been cleaned, the alignment adjusted. We were still interested. The financial game began. We were low balled on our trade in, and the online quote was not represented, in addition the "Elgin Pro-Pac" was added on at an additional $1300. We countered. The online quote was not represented, the "Elgin Pro-Pac" was reduced to &1000, our trade-in remained low balled. We countered and accompanied the salesman to the sales manager to show him the online quote received. We were told that at that price we were "stealing the vehicle" and the online sales person made a mistake. We stood firm on the online quote and the sales manager offered us our keys. This is a perfect example of deceptive sales tactics. Beware of this dealer................if you find yourself on Chicago Street in Elgin, please keep driving and do not fall victim to their underhanded sales approach!!! read more

Saw this car on true car and the dealerships fees were clearly listed on the site. Called ahead to verify the prices of all fees were correct. So today I go to the dealership and test drove the car everything was great on that end, after getting to the desk I tell my sales associate I have financing from my credit union already and the look on his face turns sour he asks could he see the check so I let him and he goes to his manager and comes back with a price almost four thousand dollars more than what the car should cost. I tell him I've done the math on the taxes, title and plates and all their fees and what the price should be he says let him go talk to his manager again. Then he comes back and tries to explain they have "mandatory" warranties. Ive bought 5 cars in my lifetime and never have I heard of warranties being mandatory. So I do the math again and even with the warranties they were still two thousand over what the car should have been. I politely asked for my check back and left at this point. PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS DEALERSHIP THEY ARE ONLY LOOKING TO CON YOU OUT OF MORE MONEY AND LINE THEIR POCKETS. read more

Wow. Where to start.... I have been looking to upgrade my 2014 Sonata for a bit now. Not having great credit I knew this wouldn't be an easy process. I started with doing an application on line and received a call right away from Michelle Havansek. She was very sweet from the start. I ended up receiving her cell phone number and we text back and forth quite a bit. I explained to her that I did not want to waste anyones time and what I could afford. Which was not a whole lot. She listened and put me in contact with her general manager Mike. I was asked to visit the dealership and I did. That day I walked into the dealership extremely nervous. I have never been through this process on my own. Mind you I am a 38 year old woman and a mother of 3. I was greeted right away by Mike and Tom. They both treated me very fairly and with respect. After doing a test drive with Tom we came back and did numbers. I unfortunately could not afford the car that I wanted. They all climbed mountains to make things work for me. I left that night without a new car. So sad... I continued to talk with Michelle who really was one of the most compassionate people I have ever spoken with. I tried to up my payment in hopes that it would help me but, it wasn't enough. Michelle even went as far as to offer me gas money to come back to the dealership to try things. I just figure we aren't there yet. So, bottom line I did not get a new car. I am still driving my Sonata. But, I do have faith that when the time comes that these are the very best people to go to. I hight Recommend Elgin Hyundai to anyone. The three people that helped me have left a major impression on my heart for treating me with kindness through this whole process. I will NEVER do business with them after the way I was treated on my visit. First I had an appointment set a full day in advance to test drive a specific car. When I arrived I was "helped" by Steven. I sat around for almost an hour while they got the car ready to test drive, I would have thought it would be ready since I had an appointment. While I was waiting, he took personal calls on his cell phone, something about "just let him go back to jail then". Not a call to take on the sales floor in front of customers. After the test drive to my mechanic, I went back and addressed my issues with the car. I said that despite the problems I still thought that it would be a solid reliable car, however I did not think it was worth the price they were asking. He literally said to me, "Well, good luck then." He made NO effort to negotiate. No effort to recommend an alternate car. I may be a woman but I am educated and I did my research, I knew exactly what I wanted and what it was worth. I am pretty sure he knew he wasn't dealing with a clueless female and therefore wasn't going to be able to "pad" the sale, therefore he completely dismissed me. I was ready to buy a car that day. We just had our Santa Fe serviced at Elgin Hyundai. When we picked it up the fella at the service desk was the phone, it was obvious that he was speaking to a potential customer. I waited for 10 minutes before he acknowledged I was there, but all he did was point and say, "Picking up a car? Go to cashier." Once I paid, I waited 15 minutes for my car, then went back to the cashier to call for it again. I waited another 15 minutes for the porter to bring it up front. At all the other dealers we've taken our cars to in the past 30 years, we have gotten them back vacuumed and washed. NOT, Elgin Hyundai. In my opinion they give very little service in the service department. read more

I leased my daughter's car from them almost 3 years ago, but got two more Hyundias from Rosen Hyundai within the last 10 months.. Rosen seemed more honest and above board. I'm now at a point that my daughter's lease is expiring soon and not sure if I should give the local guy a another chance. read more

Worst experience ever! Bad from get go. Stepped on lot and salesperson rude. (not sure why we stayed ). We went there to look at a specific car. We have bad credit. we were advised to get third car payment and put one into repossession. Salesperson said it would be better for us and that it was a smarter way to go instead of trading a vehicle in. Made us feel even worse about our situation. Go to Rosen instead. If there were zero for rating that is what mine would be. I have nothing against the sales person, Lou, who assisted us, but once you have signed and paid look out! Mike Meah the General Manager does not have customer service skills. The service department needs a course in manners. Just let me say if you are getting your oil changed there check before you leave. We had nothing but issues since day 1 when we bought our car and they could not even do the "make good" right. Took car in for detailing and oil change and neither was done. The biggest issue is that the oil was not changed when they said it was and if we had not checked, no idea what damage may have been done to our engine. The biggest issue is Elgin Hyundai and the owner Bob Loquercio cannot see that they were wrong...Bob's only concerns is the bottom line not if the customer is happy. Very arrogant man. Elgin Hyundai is very deceiving in their prices. i purchased an $8000 car, and noticed they tacked on nearly $4000 in add ons that i did not know about. almost $2k in 100,000 mile warranty on a car with 90k miles on it, plus some anti theft stickers on the doors for $700 and over 900 in some dent and scratch warranty. Went back the next day to talk to Ed Howell the finance manager to try and have this removed and he stated the 100,000 mile warranty and anti theft stickers were mandatory but would remove the dent and scratch. I believe if this is mandatory, it should already be included in the sticker price... Check ALL the numbers before you sign anyghing. Once they get you signing, they move very fast so you cant see the numbers. read more

PLEASE, DO NOT GO HERE. I'll try to keep this brief. My wife and I recently purchased a vehicle from a certified pre-owned Hyundai dealership in Elgin, Illinois. One of the biggest features of Hyundai that attracted us was the comprehensive and powertrain warranty that comes included with qualified certified pre-owned vehicles. Long story short, they tried charging me an additional +$3,000 for a warranty that should have come included. Even after pointing out evidence from the Hyundai website, they tried charging me for it multiple times. They eventually gave in, but it was an awful experience being lied to. It was also a really uncomfortable experience sitting there while employees try to lie that certified pre-owned vehicles ONLY come with a 150-point inspection. Even after hands were shaken, one of the employees almost didn't include our warranty paperwork when everything was being finalized. He even stated, "We usually charge for the warranty." This has lead me to believe they have been doing this for awhile now and it is sickening. PLEASE DON'T GO HERE. They don't even try to change. The only effort they put into changing is having some person named Jenni Tuton contact you just to look good and but then they move on, just for PR. If you do go here, just BE READY FOR THEM TO CHARGE YOU $3,000 MORE FOR A WARRANTY THAT COMES FREE WITH A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED HYUNDAI. I'm sorry for the caps but I really want people to see this. Elgin Hyundai is a dealership i would not recommend. the buying experience was not good and quite frankly we're kicking ourselves for not walking out, but we really needed the car & where just physically worn down by the whole experience and wanted to get it over with. we purchased our auto a couple years back, and our salesman was Byron Pena. Terrible, rude-all seemed distracted. since the purchase we've had to bring the car in several time due to various issues (the car is just over 4 years old) the service people sealed the fate of Elgin Hyundai in my eyes. Awful! Constantly treat the customer(s) like they are doing YOU a favor. Really? you are working & have a job BECAUSE OF THE CUSTOMER(S). I bet there are 100s of qualified service managers and advisers out there who may be looking for work and would do a better job with a smile on their face and drop the attitude - so its a real shame that bitter, angry, unfriendly men such as the personnel you have to deal with when bringing in your auto are the ones with jobs. We have had many negative experiences with this dealership. In about 18 months or so we'd like to replace our auto - I am sure that Elgin Hyundai cannot be bothered with my $25K-$30K measly purchase, I would had to inflict that on them..... so we will go elsewhere - I suggest you do too! read more

Be careful when you get service here, you may not need it. Service department is very nice and you want to believe them, but beware. I was told I needed several things that added up to about $1,000. Had it check out somewhere else and found I needed nothing. Service manager did call me and talk to me about my not so good review and explain to me that they were just telling me items that were general maintenance. I appreciate that he called and talk to me. So ask the questions be sure that things have to be done. I know I will in the future. I have always had good service here in the past and the service department is very helpful but now I know to ask the right questions. read more

I just purchased a Hyundai Tuscon from Tom at this location. When I walked in I was greeted immediately from the GM Micheal. Told him I am here to purchase a vehicle and he introduced me to Tom. He was great not a pushy salesmane and i didnt feel like because I am a woman he was trying to take advantage. It was a rainy day, Tom took his time to walk me around the lot and show me vehiclesr in my price range. Let me test drive and explained why the vehicle I purchased will be the best deal for what i am looking for. I a great experiece at this location, so great my mom will be back to purchase her a new car. This is my husband's experience with Elgin Hyundai. In September 2016, my Elantra's ABS light came on. I had the autoparts store read the ABS code -- the front right wheel speed sensor was bad.  I replaced the old one myself. The ABS light did not go off. On 11/26/16 I took my Elantra to my local dealer, Elgin Hyundai. Larry Rosencrants said he might not be able to get to my car until Monday. I didn't hear from Larry on Monday, so I called on Tuesday.  Larry said they hadn't gotten to it yet and they'd give me a loaner. A week later, Larry calls and says my car needs 3 new wheel speed sensors (including the wheel speed sensor that I had just replaced) as well as a new ABS control module. A few days later, after not hearing from Larry, I call back. He says the technicians can't figure out the problem, they're waiting for a Hyundai engineer to come. Soon I stop receiving any phone calls from Larry. I call Elgin Hyundai roughly once a week for updates. Larry says the engineer is still busy. Several months go by.  Larry has me come in to swap out loaners, still says "we're waiting for the engineer."  There's about a 3 month period with no communication. In 9/2017, Larry calls and asks I bring back the loaner (this was my 3rd loaner). I go to Elgin Hyundai on 9/6/17. I meet with Larry and Jim Selig (service dept manager). Jim says it's the first time in 40 years he hasn't been able to fix a car, and claims the car is in exactly the same shape as when I dropped it off, buy with a new battery.  Jim asks what I think a reasonable charge would be, I suggested $500. Jim said $450. I paid and left. A few days later I tried using the A/C, no cold air came out. The A/C was working before bringing the car in to Elgin Hyundai. I did not want to take the car back to Elgin Hyundai, and since it was the start of fall, I did not seek to get the A/C fixed. I drove the car to/from work for the next 1.5 months, all of the driving taking place in suburban areas and on the highway, no prolonged stop and go driving. On 9/17/17, I changed the oil in my Elantra and replaced the air filter.  While doing so, I notice that my car's fuse box was not secured. The bolts that hold the fuse box down were missing. These bolts were in place before I dropped my car off. I was upset by this, but decided it was not worth discussing this with Elgin Hyundai. On 10/18/17 I was driving the car down (I-290), heading in to downtown Chicago to attend a Cubs playoff game with my brother in stop and go traffic.  After about 10-15 minutes in traffic, the car starts idling rough. I check the temperature gauge. The gauge indicates the car is overheated. I pull off on to the shoulder and pop the hood. Engine coolant is steadily streaming out of the car on to the road. I call a tow truck. 2.5 hours later the tow truck arrives and I have the car towed to a repair shop. My brother and I eventually make it to the Cubs game by the end of the 5th inning. The next day I got a call from the repair shop -- my engine's radiator fan was unplugged (plug was "dangling by the wires") and the coolant dripping out of the car was likely due to the coolant boiling over and out of the coolant reservoir. The car's compressor was also unplugged and after plugging it back in the A/C works. He mentions that the ABS control module is from a scrap yard and not the car's original. The repair shop provided a work order documenting all of this.  They said I wouldn't be charged for anything. I went to Elgin Hyundai on 10/20 to discuss the issues I've had since getting my car back. I requested to talk with Mike Meah, the GM. Mike was out so I talked to Brian Craig and Joe Ballin (service and parts director). Brian listened and was courteous. Joe attempted to shift blame. He stated that he was out $2500 with my car because he had to order parts but couldn't fix the car, suggesting that he was not interested in providing any sort of reimbursement or compensation. He also hinted that the disconnected fan wasn't due to the work of Elgin Hyundai. Given that the A/C was left unplugged,  bolts were missing from the fuse box, and a junkyard ABS module was installed in my car, I don't believe it's in any way shape or form acceptable for Elgin Hyundai to suggest I somehow unplugged my radiator fan or that the fan came unplugged while driving in stop and go traffic. It's clear that Elgin Hyundai didn't care about my car and was negligent. I stated to Joe that I thought it was reasonable for Hyundai to reimburse me for the money I paid them in September. Joe said he thought that was unreasonable.  We both agreed a meeting with the GM was the next step. Joe stated that the GM would be in tomorrow (10/21) and that he would call me back on Saturday to confirm the appointment.  No one called on Saturday. I met with GM Mike Meah the following week and he told me that because they lost money trying to fix my car, they did not want to make it right. read more

Went in to exchange two vehicles for two new ones. After speaking on the phone with David Kang I informed him of what I wanted and the I was not intending on staying All day at the dealership. Upon arrival, David immediately worked with me, had the two new vehicles inside and ready for my inspection. After a little bartering back and for on pricing, trade in pricing, etc... We were able to come to an agreement. After the financing was complete, since it was winter, David pulled both my old and new vehicles indoors for me to move my items. He took the time to show me all the features that the cars had. I would definitely recommend going here. Lastly there was one item that I left in one of my trade ins, David stopped by my home with my old vehicle to take the item. Not something very typical but very much appreciated. read more

Said they looked at the rear breaks of the car that we bought and that the tires were fine and now a months later we had to replace both they will tell you whatever you want to hear to get the car out the door and then your on your own. The piece of shit sAles manager bob didn't care at all and said what do you expect me to do for you. I insisted he make it right by compensating me for what we had to fix he said well that can't happen. If I could give 0 stars I would. Inquired online about a specific vehicle and was given a price quote around 23K for that exact vehicle. This was MSRP/Invoice and not an advertised incentive deal. VIN and stock number were right below the quote and so was a picture of the exact car on the lot. Some girl named Michelle said to ask for her when coming in and she wasn't on sight. Why ask for someone not on site? Bad start. Greeted by Igor who just talked the entire time and even if I had an objection or something to say he cut me off to explain basic features that every car has. After showing Igor the MSRP of 23K before any dealer incentives quoted by his online sales department he runs my credit and comes back with an MSRP of almost 27K! He tries to tell me I was quoted a base model and this had dealer options. I show him e-mail with VIN and Stock # by quote and he says the same thing. I ask for my keys to leave and he doesn't do anything. I go over to appraisal manager checking my trade in and ask for my keys. He wants to know what's wrong. I explain to him and show the e-mail and again was told I was quoted a price on a base model. Hmmmm, so I was quoted a base model yet shown a VIN, Stock, and picture for their base model with $4,000 of dealer options. Maybe some sort of foot in the door tactics? Now I have a credit inquiry and still haven't left after asking for my keys twice! I explain to these guys that I know the dealer options should cost more, that's why I thought this car was a great deal. He cuts me off and AGAIN states I was quoted a base model. I had to ask him if he was interested in cutting me off or selling me a car? Then his manager looks at the e-mail and basically says, "Yeah we screwed up, but can't honor that price." Either they are deceptive, dumb, or both. Either way I want nothing to do with these people and neither should you. Every bad stereotype you hear about cars was exhibited by Elgin Hyundai. read more

I Had purchased a 2018 Sonata back in May. I needed to return my leased Sonata because my mileage was hitting the limit for the lease. I was told they could take care of the last three months of the lease and I could buy another car instead of leasing. I few weeks later I received a notice from the leasing office saying I not only missed a payment but I did not return the car that was leased even though it was still sitting in the Hyundai parking lot. They never entered the cars return in the system so I had to get proof that it was. I also had to get the dealership to send the lease payoff check because the leasing office never received the payoff check. And the dealer never sent it to them. So I had to go back to the dealer to get this taken care of. Now on Saturday September 15, 2018 I received a notice that my lease was going into collections for non payment. I went to the dealer on Monday and made a stink about this problem. The leasing office wants proof in the form of a check that the dealer paid this off. They said they would get this for me by 9/18/18 and would call back with an update. I've tried 5 - 6 times to call but no one will take my call to give me an update. The leasing office said they were going to send this to collections today without a copy of the payoff check. The dealer said that the check was probably credited to some one else's account and acted like it was no big deal. But it's not their credit so why should they be rushed. Instead they kept passing the buck as to who can take care of this issue. Finally, they said they would call when they got a copy of the check. Still no word on what's going on and time is running out. The leasing office said they were trying to call me to warn me but they were using a number that I don't even have. There are so many screw-ups with this dealership and the leasing office and now my personal credit is on the line and they still don't respond. This is why I gave such a poor rating to this dealership, because I can't get any answers from anyone. read more

These guys are the worst! Especially the salesman named Tom Olsen. They charge you a 1000 dollars even on used cars for a seat warranty. The car cost 4400 and there was about 2200 dollars extra that Tom claimed was taxes. After looking at the final bill I saw that there was an extra 1400 dollars from there seat warranty and anti theft system. The anti theft system I understand but Tom claimed that he told me about the seat warranty fee during the test drive but I know for a fact that I did not hear that because if I heard that I would have never considered paying almost an extra 25% just to get the car. And then when we were in the finance office and we asked him about it he lied and said that he explained it during the test drive but when I asked him how they are adding 2200 dollars he just told me that it was all taxes. Will not ever recommend this place to anyone. Do not go here unless you feel like getting robbed. read more

I find it interesting that someone (Anthony) had the same experience as my husband and I did. Our issue was not with our salesperson- it was with financing. We negotiated the price of the car with the dealership and came to an agreement. Immediately-- before running our credit or discussing any sort of finance options with us or even giving us a total with everything factored in- they made us pay our down payment. We had a price range of what we wanted our monthly payment to fall under. We even were willing to front another 1000 dollars just to make our monthly payments lower- but we were no longer allowed to do that. It made us somewhat uncomfortable, but we knew we wanted the car so we obliged. Once we gave our down payment, it was at least another couple hours before we spoke to financing. We got into financing and he rushed us. He was annoyed that in the two hours the salesperson did not take any time to over any forms with us. Rather than taking the time himself to sit and talk to us, he just sped through them. We were forced into some mandatory 1000 dollar warranty that covers the interior of the car. He said that no car was allowed to leave the lot without it.... I've never heard of something like that. We did have our baby with us so by the time we got to financing he was miserable and ready to leave. I feel that the finance guy took advantage of that. We signed the paperwork and left. When we got home, my husband was adding everything up (including the 1000 warranty) and realized that there's 1000 unaccounted for in the overall price. Yes, we should have done that BEFORE signing, but what's done is done. The bottom line is that we got screwed into paying another 1000 that no one from the dealership can seem to explain what it went towards. All I can say is if you do business with them- be sure to double check everything in the finance department. And on top of that- we had to wait for the manager to mail us the second set of keys. I understand dealers drive the cars, but at that point it's my car and I should not have to wait for my keys that you kept forgetting at home. First, set up appointment online. Did not have a specific sales man to see. Everyone greeted and was polite and professional. Jay assisted us with our vehicles. I was very clear that i am in the beginning process of purchasing a vehicle and right now just wanted to look at small and midsize SUVs and get specific measurements to assure the vehicle would meet our needs. He went showed us the Tucson and the Santa Fe. Let us take our measurements and allowed us to take our test drives. I was very impressed with just the standard options available on each and loved the drive of the Tucson more than expected. I will be coming back later for a longer test drive to make sure it handles well on the highway and to start talking money in the next month or so. Jay has been wonderful with us even when we have called and stopped in with just that "one more" question. All I can say is that I wish I had read this BEFORE we drove from Griffith, Indiana to see the Santa Fe that they had to offer! We drew the short straw and Igor met us at the door. He was rude from the start, but I figured "maybe it was his accent" and thought we would give it a shot. After spelling my name 3-4 times he finally found us in the computer. He took us out to see the car we called on and I have NEVER seen anything more dirty in my life. As I opened the back hatch I lifted up a sun visor and looked at him. He said these things happen and I check the front to see that it was the driver's side visor. He quickly ran through all the car had to offer (I felt like we were watching a movie in fast forward) and we all got seated in the car. My husband was driving and noticed that there were SEVERAL warning lights were lit on the dash and started to look around. Igor said to just go and make a right. My husband was concerned with the status of the car but went ahead. We quickly realized that the air wasn't fully functioning properly and decided to head back to see what else they had to offer. Once inside Igor explained that its a USED car and asked "what do you expect"? Really? That is your response? Then he looks up what else they had, as my husband goes to our car to get the list of other dealerships in the area that carry the Santa Fe's... (we had to see who would be open since it was the 4th of July). Igor starts talking about a 2014 one that he KNOWS we will fall in love it & he feel like he doesn't even need to show it to us. I told him it was out of our price range and we had seen another one that was older with less mileage for $4k less. He asked where and looked it up online. Then gets angry and starts raising his voice saying they are lying to me! There is no warranty on the car. I told him that I NEVER said there was a warranty and reminded him that the car we were coming to look at had NO WARRANTY either! All while this is going on, his PERSONAL cell phone is ringing and he keeps looking at it and putting it down. He then gets up to go and talk to someone else as my hubby comes back, sees that I am upset and asked what happened. I told him, he shook his head and said "Let's go!" As we were exiting, Igor walked up shaking his hand and yelling "There's just no satisfying you" and he tried shaking our hands and we left. We drove 3 hours round trip to see this car and only spent 20minutes in this dealership!!!! I wrote them to let them know how we were treated & still have yet to received a response. Judging from what others wrote this dealership just doesn't seem to care!!!! This is the first time I have EVER wrote a complaint on YELP, but I really feel others need to be AWARE! I asked very specifically if there was anything wrong with the car since I was coming some distance to come look at it, and since it has high miles. He gave me the "speech" about how good the car is and how they sell only the best. So I drove to go look at it,test drive it, and potentially buy it (brought another driver with me and cash) Keep in mind he called me several times, insinuating the car has generated a lot of interest. I get there, and it is not very accessible. There are cars parked in front of it in a way that it was not anyones interest, and the brakes are rusty. Guess it has not had too much interest as it has not moved in a while. the starter makes a terrible noise, the check engine light is on (he said the starter must be why the engine light is on), and the windshield has a crack half way across it (he said the service department likely already has one on order). The valve cover was leaking oil so profusely on the exhaust (he said that is from steam cleaning the engine), all you could smell was burning oil the entire time. I came all this distance, so I drove it. On the test drive, the transmission started slipping (I mentioned it and asked which way to get back to the dealership, he said nothing about the trans). Oh, the doors were in dire need of lubrication. Damn near took 2-men and a baby to open two of the doors! I shook his hand and told him no deal. Upon leaving he was already parking it right back where it was. How about, try being honest about the car, and when there are problems, fix them. I am a technician myself, and the excuses he used insulted my intelligence and made me wonder how many people have been taken advantage of. Worst experience of my life!! We drove 6 hours round trip to buy an suv. We called and talked to them 3 times yesterday to confirm that we were coming and where we were at and that the Suv was still available!. My husband took off of work early so we could get there before they closed. Only to get there and 1 salesman said it sold Sat. It was still there. Another salesman said that it was on hold. Ok so I ask to speak with a manager. The "manager" said the other person just got there and had the cash. What was he supposed to do turn down a sale. We had an appointment! We had the cash to buy it right then. We drove 6 hours total to not buy something. Wasted my time and wasted my gas. Not to mention all the toll roads we had to pay and all of the construction. No i'm sorry or anything. I felt like I was at some Buy Here Pay Here place. Worst customer service ever!! I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau!!! read more

I generally don't deal with dealerships because I never feel comfortable buying a car from the same person who does the mechanical inspection (have bought a number of cars from private sellers with a 3rd party inspection and have always been satisfied, or known when to walk away). I decided to go with Elgin Hyundai because they had what I was looking for and I saw so many good reviews. First of all, I made an appointment to see the car, but when my husband showed up and asked for the person he had an appointment with, they weren't available and no one even knew where the car was. When they finally found the car, it was COMPLETELY TRASHED. No one had cleaned it, no one had inspected it, he said it looked like 3 small children and a raccoon had been living in there-stuff was torn up, smelly, trash everywhere. He almost walked away, but they assured him they would give him a discount for their mistake and take care of everything. He stuck around to see how much of a deal he could get, and they did knock the price down and assured him the car would undergo a "thorough" inspection and they would take care of "everything that came up" in addition to cleaning and detailing the car. That sounded too good to be true to me (realistically, "everything" on a high mileage used car adds up to a lot), but my husband felt good about it and bought the car. Of course they didn't take care of everything, we brought the car straight to our mechanic and there was about $900 dollars worth of work left to do (on a $4400 dollar car). The mechanic said that they would have easily noticed it with just a basic mechanical inspection. We went back to dealership and asked if they would do any of the work and they said "sure, we'll do it for half off!" and "half off" turned out to be almost $500 dollars more than our mechanic quoted us for full price. I'm not talking about cosmetic stuff (lots of dings, cracked tail-light, missing part of the door frame), but basic mechanical stuff that they promised they would take care of and didn't. ALSO, there was a missing door panel they said they were waiting on a part for, but we could take the car home and we could bring it in to replace it later. Well AFTER we brought it in, water started leaking into the car, they must have accidentally broken a seal while they were repairing it, and they refused to take care of it (well, they offered to do it for "half-off" again, with "half-off" being twice as expensive as anywhere else). I've bought numerous used cars, I'm not naive about them having flaws, I'm just very disappointed in their lack of professionalism and their inability to take responsibility for their own mistakes and live up to their word. read more
