Despite all of the rave reviews I'm gonna have to go with a solid 2 stars for this place. I went today with my family for a St. Patrick's celebration we found being advertised on metromix Chicago. My family and I arrived shortly after 2pm. The event was from 9am-5pm. We walked in to empty boxes of sample cheesecakes. Not a single person greeted us. We kinda just picked up a few coloring papers for a coloring competition I guess they were having. We took a walk around and looked at the different cheesecakes for purchase and then found ourselves a seat. The kids colored and an employee brought out some sample cheesecakes. Key lime pie cheesecake and chocolate chip. The chocolate chip cheesecake was mediocre. The key lime pie cheesecake was no bueno, no good. Did not taste like key lime at all (and that is my ALL time favorite dessert so I consider myself all things key lime connoisseur). As advertised , if you wore green then u receive a free slice of cheesecake. So we went up to the cashier and asked about it and she asked how many and have the employee next to her serve up a few slices of frozen solid cheesecake. She said " anything else?!" And I told her not at the moment and then she says loudly "Next!"...... My kids went to the cookie decorating station and decorated a cookie and then we were pretty much done. Not much to do here and I'm pretty disappointed we chose this as our St. Pattys day activity. I was expecting much more, from the advertisement it seemed like a whole festival they had going on here. On another note, the employees here seem miserable. Not one seemed happy to be there. They all seemed unenthusiastic, counting the time on the clock. 2 stars because my kids had fun coloring. I ordered a strawberry cheesecake from Eli's through Goldbelly. The cheesecake shipped to arrive in 2 days, but did not arrive until day 3. The dry ice had completely evaporated, the interior box was soggy, and the cheesecake was tepid and melting to the plastic. It was not packaged prepared for any sort of delay, and was certainly not packaged with any preparation of southern heat. Will not take the chance of ordering from them again. read more

If one of your top 3 favourite desserts happen to be cheesecake, please for the love of god be careful before coming here. You will be so tempted by the ridiculous number of flavours (Blood orange Champagne, Capuccino Hazelnut and Chocolate Caramel Pecan just to name a few) that you will be physically restraining yourself from tearing open a package right there in the store and gnawing on a frozen one. (frozen, of course, being the best way to eat cheesecake IMO). But, if you happen to be friends with the one or two completely insane people that for some highly suspicious reason say they "dislike" cheesecake (I still think they have one hidden in the back of their freezer, cuz who in their right mind doesnt like it? I was in Chicago recently and I made it a point to stop by Eli's factory store and pick up my favorite strawberry cheesecake...But they also have a wide variety of other baked delicacies from cakes to brownies.. Anything to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours! I love it so much I stocked up on several frozen cheesecakes to take back home to Cali to share with my family and friends! Why is Eli's not busier? I don't get it. This is like total desert heaven and here's why: 1) Huge variety of cheesecakes available by the slice. Cake, cookie, cupcakes also available. A cake serves 12-14 which is good insurance if the recipient's family intercepts it while she is out. I couldn't decide between chocolate caramel pecan, chocolate chip, and Heath bar cheesecakes. My best friend loves cheesecake so I've been buying her one for her birthday for the last couple of years. The chocolate lover's sampler is amazing for someone who loves cheese and chocolate. I love Eli's!!! Whenever we are in Chicago, I always make sure to get some before going home as we are atleast 48 min away from this location and I'm not a fan buying them from grocery stores. Anyway, I brought my 1 year old son to the cheesecake festival last Sunday and we had a blast! It was so much fun and we didn't had a hard time looking for parking considering we came late for the event. I find it organized actually and the carshow was so cool. My son enjoyed looking at them and since it was only me and my son it was hard to get pictures and so I have asked several Eli's staff and they were so friendly and glady took us pictures! I was so pleased. Loved the endless samples and of course, didn't leave without buying cheesecakes. I spent almost $80 as we have to stock up and have to take advantage of the sale. Got home and enjoyed it with my family. We can't wait for next year! I will definitely be bringing my family and friends so they can also enjoy the festival. It's all about the cheesecake. I'd buy this cheesecake if it was doubled in price. The fact that you can get the "Sweet Imperfections" at sometimes half price just doesn't make any sense. Why are they taunting me?? The little cafe at the front of the store has world-class coffee, free samples and a nice display of slices of cheesecake. Oh, then go shopping for the deals. Customer service gets 1 star! Cheesecake is sooo good that overall I'll give 3 stars. It's a cool place and I've never been before. The selection is overwhelming. So I grabbed 3 different pies. When I went up to the counter the cashier was heavily involved in a personal conversation with one of her coworkers. She saw me standing there yet she continued on with her conversation. After a few minutes I interrupted her. She was not happy. She didn't acknowledge me, she just started ringing up the pies. I told her that I just wanted 1 pie but I wanted to know the difference between the 3. You could tell she was annoyed. I'm such an easy going person so her terrible attitude has now annoyed me. She never gave me the help/answers I was looking for. There was no one in line so I'm not sure why she was in such a hurry to ring me up. I almost left without buying anything but I wasn't going to let her ruin my cheese cake craving! So I paid for the plain style and I left. Maybe I just caught this lady on a bad day. I enjoy cheesecake, so I've been meaning to dine in this place after finding out Eli's Cheesecake actually had their own cafe-a nice spacious area where one can try some of the food and drinks they have to offer. Just adjacent to this area is their wide selection of cheesecakes which is what most customers come to get! Regretfully i found out the hard way that the kitchen is open Monday-Saturday from 11am-2pm, so i had to settle for whatever sandwich or salad they had previously prepared that day. I was happy though with my Club sandwich and Strawberry topped Cheesecake! I also tried the Cookie Crazy cheesecake made with Oreo since they had a BOGO free mix and match offer on slices of cheesecake! Prices are reasonable as i just spent around 12 dollars for a sandwich large mocha drink and 2 cheesecakes! As part of our visit to Chicago, we went on their tour. Weekdays only. No reservations - you just show up a while before and buy a ticket. The tour consists of a promotional video ( the President of the company gave a short welcome afterwards, in person, which was neat ). Afterwards, you don hair nets and get to go onto a cordoned-off section of the factory floor for a short while, where you see one of the workers decorate a custom cheesecake which is raffled off. As visitors, we were keen not to win the cheesecake raffle ( what are we going to do with a *whole* cheesecake? ). We luckily lost. But then they decided for some reason to do a second one. Which we won. So there we were, on our way to see the Frank Lloyd Wright home, on a very hot day, with a whole cheesecake. They were very nice about it and offered to box it up and hold it in their freezer until we could come back and pick it up on the way back to our hotel. Anyway, the factory floor tour is not all that great because you can only see the decorating and packing area, not the baking or mixing areas, and you can't take any photos back there, and the tour group is basically standing in a passageway that the factory workers like to use on their breaks. The day we were there, the workers were on lunch break for most of the tour time anyway. So - you do get a slice of cheesecake with the tour, and you might win more than that. I really didn't think it was all that great as a factory tour, it was difficult to plan for since it was not reservable, and we ended up with more than we bargained for. But the cheesecake was pretty darn good. read more

I can't tell you how disappointed in myself I truly am for having lived MINUTES from this gem for years and not stepping foot in it until today. In my defense, I did believe it was only a factory for a while--since it's set a bit further back from the roadside, I didn't see the "Cafe and Bakery" lettering along the side. I went here using a Groupon (Are you sensing a pattern here? My profile told you that I live off discount websites, and it wasn't lying). Even though they're in on the deal, many businesses do not seem receptive to their Groupon clientele. I used to think that this might be due to the fact that the coupons could be difficult to process, but since my own employer struck a deal with Groupon, I know that is not the case. The coupons are a cinch to process and manage, and Groupon customers are great! Not only is this place polite to discounted customers...they actually rewarded me for participating in their 'deal' by offering me 15% off coupons for my next visit! I went for their lunch special, which was a turkey, bacon, and avocado sandwich on ciabatta. The sandwich was ok--the ingredients were fresh and tasted good, but as another reviewer mentioned, there was no mayo or sauce of any kind which was a bit odd. What made it worth it was that it came with a free dessert of my choice--chocolate chip cheesecake, yum! In addition, I purchased some more desserts, exceeding my Groupon limit, and leaving a satisfied customer. Oh, and has there EVER been a sweeter, more accommodating service person than the girl who works behind this counter??? She was fantastic and made my experience as a newbie that much better. She will make me a repeat customer! So why not 5 stars? I already mentioned the sauceless sandwich...fine, I can deal, it's a cheesecake cafe. Retail shop which is basically an extension of the actual manufacturing/processing plant for the cakes. Mrs. favorite is the Heath Bar cheesecake. Mine is the strawberry. If you like cheesecake or if you want to figure out if you like cheesecake, it is totally worth it to visit Eli's Cheesecake World - retail store and cafe attached to their factory. The cafe is nice, because you can grab lunch, dessert, or a snack very easily. My cousins and I tried a few different desserts, including the cheesecake bites which are 75 cents each and a perfect size to taste a few different types of cheesecake. The staff members also seem friendly. They have so many different cheesecake flavors, including sampler platters, and the prices are reasonable. They seem to have sales pretty often from what I can tell. If you stop in, definitely pick up a copy of the monthly calendar to figure out the best deals or check out any events (like free samples =P). I haven't really found a cheesecake at Eli's cheesecake that I don't like (which is unfortunate for my waist line =P), but I particularly like the plain, chocolate, and red velvet. read more

BEST CHEESECAKE EVER [well besides the one my boyfriend's aunt makes]. When you first walk in this place may look a little shabby but thats because they not only sell their cheesecakes and desserts there but they also make them in the same building! You can even watch them through the glass. They also sell other goodies, so it's kind of like a 3 in 1 building. Lol. I will tell you that honestly everything tastes so fresh you would be surprised why this little gem is so hidden! I had the strawberry cheesecake and my boyfriend had the turtle pecan cheesecake. They were both to die for! We also got a red velvet cupcake but unfortunately I threw it out by mistake. But man, oh man, their prices were ridiculous [in a good way]!!! The tour is fantastic,. My second time through the tour as we brought friends and family thi time. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Gosh, i don't remmber the tour guide we had yesterday March 25th, but she so informative. More so, than the last tour we went on over a year ago. And hlarious, the groups were in stitches! We had the lunch. very good and not expensive. However the meatblall sandwich i had was a bit 'watery' this time. Overall, a nice atmosphere to relax, gain some facts about the company and chicago, and watch how a terrifically delicious cheesecake begins! I didn't know egss came without shells! Dod you know Eli's makes 12,000 cheescakes a day! Decorations are all handmade! Put that in perspective, way affordable than what you would buy from a name brand frozen food company. Well first, it is near my house and second, the magic of dock sales. Mark Shulman loves what he does and the staff loves to watch people love their products. I don't eat rich stuff like this except if it comes from Eli's. You can stop for a sandwich, cookies, cheesecake and coffee in the front, which is a really nice place to hang. you can buy first quality and seconds. They host our local farmers market and have parties for local groups (Kiwanis, schools) and wine tastings. But sign up for the dock sales; you'll be such a hit it ain't funny. But DO sign up. The area around Eli's is booming. almost recession-proof, realty is high and NOT coming down in the area, and you can see why (well yeah: you're near my place, for one). Overall, this is a place that everyone should experience. I came here for a factory tour and it was a great time. There was a farmers market in the parking lot, the artistry on the walls is very entertaining, and best of all, there is cheesecake! This review is for an Eli's chocolate chip cheesecake I bought at Jewel while visiting family back home in Illinois. It had a good date, and I hadn't had Eli's cheesecake in years, so I was very excited. Bragged to my daughters about how good it was. Only it wasn't even close to what I remembered. Not creamy as I remembered, the texture was almost gelatinous, and the flavor was bland. And it just didn't taste fresh, despite having a date of 8/23 (bought it on 7/27). Awful experience. Ordered a cheesecake for my wife's birthday party. Cake arrived still in it's unopened box inside a foam container but no ice inside and no padding. Thought that was weird but figured since it was only a day in transit, the cake itself was still frozen so I stuck it in the freezer. When we opened it on the day of my wife's birthday, the cake was entirely misshapen. Evidently, because it was not packed with ice, the cake got mangled in transit. I was disappointed beyond belief and thoroughly embarrassed. The kids were in tears. Wife was a good sport and we made the best of the rest of her birthday. I could forgive that as a rare packaging error--mistakes happen. The reason I'm giving Eli a poor review is that when I wrote them to explain our situation, my message was ignored. I never even got an acknowledgement. So my advice is to order from Sirabella's cheesecakes. We've never had a problem with them, and their customer service team doesn't treat you like a nobody.
