Very nice bakery with a cool vibe. Enjoyed the coffee cake, which was fine, but nothing special. IMO, Starbucks is better. The sourdough croissant was really good though. One of the best croissants I have ever had. The coffee (we had drip) was fine, nothing special. Purchased a sourdough boucle which we were disappointed in. At first we thought it was rye flour, but I think maybe it was just a whole grain flour that made it taste off and gave very little of the sourdough tang we enjoy. It was really expensive too. Won't buy that again. So unless you are just looking for your food to be more on the macro side, the baked goods might not taste as you might be accustomed to at traditional bakeries. read more

My family found this place on social media and told me about how they were so excited to visit, but I feel bamboozled. This place has a line out the door at 7AM but doesn't have everything ready until 9AM. We arrived before noon and they were out of all bakery items by 10AM. The bakery is beautiful, the customer service is good, the food is clean since they don't use refined sugars, but that's about all there is good to say. We stayed for breakfast and it was so terrible that we have no desire to return. All of our food had no flavor and the sourdough tasted like cardboard. Found this bakery on Instagram and visited on Easter Sunday. It was a lovely experience. Nice indoor and outdoor ambiance. Service was really quick as they can take your order while you wait in line. I was looking forward to the sourdough cinnamon rolls but they were already sold out for the day but I didn't miss out on the other goodies they had left. I got the chocolate croissant, plain croissant, chocolate chip cookie, brownie, a turnover and a slice of chocolate carrot cake. It is truly a beautiful space! The interior has a gorgeous stone bar and it's lovely to watch bakers work on the other side of the glass partition where you can see the pastries displayed. They also have a beautiful patio- very serene and covered in vines and the loveliest trees. The pastries are truly beautiful looking and we chose the following: turkey cheese croissant, cinnamon roll, and an impulse purchase vegetable quiche. For those 3 items it was $40 with tip, which was a little shocking even in this economy! I have to say- and I love sourdough- but I did not really care for the croissant or the cinnamon roll. The croissant was dense, and sorry, I didn't get the flakiness that you'd typically see in laminated doughs. The cinnamon roll was also dry, not plush or soft, and it didn't have the sticky caramelization I dream of in a cinnamon roll. The quiche was the star and one of the best I've had- custardy, rich, and well-seasoned. Was it worth $20 though? I dunno. So much hype and such a let down. Coffee connoisseur here and have been easily to over 200 coffee shops around the world. Costa Mesa is a coffee town and this is on the lower end of the list for me. Prices aren't shown but a guesstimate based on $30 for 2 coffees and 2 pastries. Dry pastries just like the employees. Not a welcoming vibe or appreciation and the owner was there. Sourdough cinnamon roll $7 - dry and she refused to heat it up. Banana bread $7 - had coconut or something grainy in it and also dry with old faint banana flavor and more pineapple like. I assume they resell leftovers bc the girl was wrapping the leftover pastries/bread (30 mins before closing) or if they have a discounted day old bread section it's not advertised. Coffee is one size and questionably 16oz - maybe 12oz based on the to go cup. Very inconsistent on measurements of milk, syrup and espresso or ice. $8 each Vermont maple coffees. Decor is nice and aesthetically pleasing but it doesn't make up for the overpriced, mid pastries, service or coffee. Wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend even as a one time check out. read more

Drove here from up north for the store to be closed at 4pm. Since there were conflicting times of when it closed I decided to go to their own website which stated it was closed at 8pm. Ignoring the bad reviews, I went in anyway specifically for the sourdough cinnamon roll. I had skipped breakfast and also ordered the French omelet to go. I can't speak for the waiting service but my order was ready in no more than fifteen minutes but I did have to go back to request utensils and napkins. I wish the potatoes that come with the omelet had more of a crisp, they were kind of chewy at the edges from being roasted. The omelet itself was pretty standard and well seasoned. As far as the cinnamon roll, I would rather have this alternative somewhat healthier version of a cinnamon roll but I'm accustomed to very little sugar. I agree with some of the reviews, this is not for someone who wants a super sweet cinnamon roll. Several tables inside if you'd rather eat there, it's an open concept vibe. The only downside was the parking situation, I don't know if they have designated parking in the back but there is only four spaces in the front. read more

Customer service 4/5 Great interactions with the staff and they were lovely Coffee 3.5/5 The cappuccino I ordered wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. First time visiting and it won't be my last. Arrived around 8:00 am and found the place to be almost empty, which I loved. I brought my laptop and such to do work, although I soon found out that there are no outlets (I was prepared for) and no Wi-Fi (was not exactly prepared for). I found a table first before ordering. While this was fine since it was pretty dead, I learned to not do this when it's busy! They have numbered tables that they seat you at after ordering, so this is more of a restaurant style cafe. They specialize in sourdough based pastries that they make in house. They all looked delicious but I was most excited to try the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was really tasty and soft. My only wish was that it was warmed up slightly. I ordered the specialty Banana Bread Latte which was recommended to me by the staff member since I prefer sweet lattes. It definitely tasted like banana bread but wasn't too overpowering of a taste and was just the right amount of sweetness. There were some crumbly bits that I felt towards the end that I didn't particularly like. The place started getting really busy around 9:30 am so expect finding parking to be tricky anytime after 9:00 am. As I left, I took a peek at what others had ordered. My husband and I were excited to try out Eller Bakery on a Sunday morning and didn't realize it would be so packed. I guess they were featured on a social media account recently and got slammed by customers. We are guilty of being influenced by said social media post! We were there at 10 am and they had started setting up valet parking. We went around the corner and parked on the street and walked over. No valet necessary! We got to the line and the hostess let us know that we'd be in for a 45 minute wait before getting to the counter and that most of the pastries were sold out. They only have one line for counter and dining in so we had to wait. We were there for brunch so we committed to the wait. I had heard that they are all organic and that they started to mill their own ancient grains flour. My husband is a fan of Einkorn flour so I figured this was right up his alley. He had his heart set on the Eggs Benedict but they were sold out for the day. I had spied some chocolate croissants under a counter but I guess they were saving those for someone. I guess they hadn't planned on being so busy. We ordered the Two egg breakfast with poached eggs and chicken apple sausage (made in-house) ($19) along with the Brioche French Toast ($19). We also ordered two Vermont Maple lattes ($7). The cashier let us know which table we could sit at and we made our way there. Our coffee arrived first and it was very pretty to look at. Taste-wise it was fine. I would have liked to have had the option of adding additional sweetener but was not given any. The entrees were served shortly after and they were definitely a feast for the eyes. It was beautifully plated. The brioche French toast was dense and delightful. The eggs and sausage were good as well. The toast definitely tasted like Einkorn made. They serve it with French butter and jam. The high quality ingredients and effort into the bakery definitely shine. I'm sure they will do well in Costa Mesa. Things that could be improved are definitely crowd control. They have very limited seating in the bakery and it looked like most people were happy to wait it out for a table on a Sunday morning. There were a few parties ahead of us that needed a table for 3-4 people. Those people had to wait for tables to be open so they could put them together. We were lucky that there were just two of us. The room capacity is at 41 and a kid behind us in line pointed out that there were more than that number of people in the room. They really ought to have a separate line for just pastries and coffee for people who want to do takeaway. There is a long coffee counter bar that they could have utilized as additional seating but isn't designed as such. Maybe they should do a waitlist so people can put their name down and come back at a later time. Maybe they will incorporate some changes in the future if the weekend crowd is any indication. I've had my eye on Eller Bakery for a while now. As soon as I walked in, I loved how open and inviting the space felt, encouraging people to take their time and enjoy their choices. Although the ambiance was great, the food itself was not up to par. We decided to get a variety of dishes to try in-house and a few to take with us. Unfortunately, both the coffee and the food didn't meet our expectations. I went for a cortado, but it ended up being more like a cappuccino, much more milk, which took away from the balance of flavors I was expecting. Looking at the menu, I tried their eggs benedict. The sausage was good though, but there was just too much sourdough bread, which overpowered the dish. The egg crepe was okay, but it didn't quite hit the mark. Though the pastries looked appetizing, they were just alright. I am typically a fan of sourdough and was looking forward to a delicious blend of flavors. Unfortunately, that didn't quite happen. Happy to find a European bakery in the neighbourhood. Beautiful space, lots of light inside, comfortable seating area, loved the colours of the furniture and how soft and pleasant it is to the touch. The bakery is in the same space separated by the glass wall and pastry counter, so you can see the whole baking process. The parking is a bit scrambled: if you come late morning, you'll have to get a valet, it gets very busy. At the entrance we were greeted by the hostess, then went to order and were given a table to dine in afterwards. This was a bit confusing, but the staff was still in the process of learning (totally understandable). Early morning, the pastries were warm and served tight after baking, we got a kanelbullar, which was spectacular: soft, spicy, with a hint of salt. Surprisingly, they don't offer almond milk for coffee, only regular milk or oat, but coffee is as good as it is in Herst (which, I believe, belongs to the bakery owner too). I hope they'll get an almond milk option soon too. The minimalist classic French omelette, impressed too: neatly folded, fluffy and tender inside with a bright accompaniment of cherry tomatoes and roasted potatoes. We also got a loaf of country bread, which reminded me of European dark loaves made with fresh flour, sweet, nutty, with a hint of sourdough. Beautiful bakery and brunch spot. First off, the building is super large and beautiful in a modern way. I've only tried their pastries but none of them have disappointed. I love how they're seed oil free too because I avoid them where I can. I can't seem to ever catch the male worker's name but he's always a delight to speak to and has always been kind whenever I stop by. People are constantly in/out so we waited for less than 3 minutes for a spot. On our way out at noon, there were a ton of spots available too. Service was great. They were attentive, kind, and helped us find seating. Now, the rumors are true. The coffee here IS bad. The latte is all milk! The americano is all water. They have so many hip youngsters working the coffee bar. You're telling me none of them can make a decent latte? What's going on? Luckily the food made up for it. Super tasty! Greetings as you step in, wonderful reception, amazing views of the baked goods and chefs as you wait in line. And then the food shows up. I ordered the two egg breakfast. Everything was perfect. The plating, the portions, the taste. The potatoes were great, the two spears of toast were perfect for dipping in the egg. The bacon was unreal, but the star of the meal were those two perfect eggs. Best fried eggs I've ever had in my life. Perfectly crisp edges, cooked but runny yolks, the occasional crunch of salt. Perfection. The oat-milk latte was the perfect conclusion to an A++ breakfast.
