First and foremost I wanted to LOVE this restaurant. The Yelp reviews are amazing. However, I did not get the experience everyone else has raved about. It took over 20 minutes for our waitress to come back after giving us our drinks to take our app order. Myself & my friend received our DELICIOUS pasta about 7 minutes before our other friend received her crab toast (we had to remind the waiter about her food). I expressed my frustrations as this was really disappointing and the waiter had the manager come over. The manager, wasn't pleasant and really basically rolled her eyes at my complaints. I asked her for my friend's meal to be waived because who likes to eat in front of someone when they don't have their meal!!!??? AWKWARD! Not sure if it was an off night but something was definitely off. It was ridiculously hot inside as if the ac broke (we were literally sweating while we were eating). All the servers seemed to be a bit frazzled as well and service was definitely slow. We did the restaurant week menu and there's no way that was wagyu tri tip. We ordered medium rare and it was definitely on the well side and very tough, we both couldn't finish ours and it was pretty disappointing. I've been wanting to try this place for a while, but the only good things were the oysters and scallops. The pasta lacked flavor and definitely wasn't as good as the server made it out to be. The bread was ok, but kinda hard to mess up bread and butter. We visited this quaint neighborhood spot for oyster hour on Sunday and had a wonderful time. Service was friendly and atmosphere was warm. Plenty of patio and indoor seating. Unfortunately, they ran out of the fish and chips so we ended up just trying the oysters, brussel sprouts, and burger. The oysters were fresh and flavorful, and the sprouts were perfectly crispy and seasoned. However, the star of the meal was undoubtedly the burger (sadly no pics were taken). My boyfriend, who enjoys Wolfgang Puck's burgers every week at work and is a self-declared burger connoisseur, said it one of the top five burgers he has ever had. We are definitely planning to return to explore more of their dinner and brunch menu. This place is a hidden gem in the neighborhood, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and excellent service at a reasonable price. read more

Came here on a Saturday for brunch around 12pm. We had reservations for 8 but it wasn't too busy when arrived. I've been here before for dinner but haven't tried the brunch. Most of the table got bottomless mimosas which were yummy. The servers rarely let our cups empty. Our servers were super friendly and attentive. They even let 2 of us change our order after we gave it to the server. What our table ordered: 1. Breakfast Pasta - This is what I and majority of our table ordered and I had really high hopes for it. The noodles were fantastic. I wasn't really a fan of the flavor. The poached egg wasn't very runny. More jammy but I like it this way. It was seasoned with pepper a little too much for me and it wasn't served to me very hot and my plate cooled down quite a bit before I finished it. 2. Chilaquiles - The flavor was great. It's definitely a lot spicier than I thought it was going to be. So if you can't handle spice very well, I don't recommend this but it was still super yummy. 3. Chicken Sandwich - I'm not really a huge fan of chicken sandwiches but this sandwich was really good. The slaw inside the sandwich was tasty and the chicken was very juicy. 4. Bruschetta Benedict - This portion was huge. I didn't get to try it personally. 5. Bread Board - The pickled veggies on here were so yummy. We didn't really know what anything was on the board but we weren't disappointed nor wowed by this dish. Definitely think dinner is better than brunch. $$$$ Ellie's Restaurant. PROS: NONE Came here to eat tonight prior to cruise departing from Long Beach tomorrow. The paperwork we acquired recommended Ellie's..big mistake. FOOD: To describe this plate of spaghetti, gooey, gluey sauce and meatballs (to go) as unbearable is too kind. These very burned and dry meatballs (2) could easily been made from Alpo. They were that terrible and were left behind on the plate. This is not a joke. The dinner serving portion was barely enough to cover the inside bottom surface of the "take-out" foil tray. The skimpy serving didn't matter, because most of it went into the trash bin. Trying to recycle the aluminum foil bits they used for the order would be criminally cruel to other innocent recycled material. Charging $30.00 with tax for this should result in a misdemeanor prosecution. SERVICE: My "to-go" order was handled by a pleasant young man who I tipped for his good attitude, he was very nice. Best part of the dinner came to an end when he said "Good night" and it was downhill from there. SUMMARY: Do yourself a favor and go past this place. Way past. read more

My wife and I went with another couple for dinner last Friday and loved it! The food was delicious and you could tell the pasta was homemade and fresh. Besides entrees we only got garlic bread to start and it was amazing. For my meal, I had the Orecchiette and I am so glad I did. The pesto sauce was super rich and zesty and I added sausage which added just the right amount of kick. The rest of my party got the Chitarra Pomodoro, Gnocchi, and the Roasted Half Chicken and they all had high praise for their food, as well. The outside seating was okay, but I could see how it wouldn't be ideal depending on the temperature and time of day. They do have a small indoor area, though. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The wait for our food was no more than 15 or 20 minutes and there was no problems with any of our orders. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are very good (though you will want more because of how tasty everything is). Definitely recommend for anyone looking for delicious, fresh, homemade Italian food. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and the general culture of the restaurant. We ordered: Parker House Rolls w/caviar- freshly baked and easily the best Parker house rolls I've had. Beet salad: fresh, bright and very flavorful Gnocchi: Absolutely perfect and not too salty. The rage was full of meat and flavor. Lasagna: this was good. It was a little heavy on the pasta layers and light on the meat layers so felt a bit imbalanced but was still well executed and delicious. The lasagna layers were also house made. Ryan was wonderful and may also say Gonzo was great! Such a pleasure to meet both of them! I went at the very beginning of the evening and it was delightful. Visited Ellie's for the first time a year ago (2024) and absolutely LOVED it. We ordered the bone marrow board, potato croquettes, brussel sprouts, pasta with shrimp, n'duja, serrano chile, and crème fraiche, and another pasta. The service/our waiter was great, the food was phenomenal, and the wine was very good. We even got free extra bread for our bone marrow board. I thought about this meal for over a year and we finally went back. But after our second and most recent visit (2025, this month), things were not as good... AT ALL. The menu at Ellie's changes frequently, but we ordered the same things as the year prior because they were still on the menu. Every item, except the bone marrow board, was not as good at all. Both pastas and the potato croquettes were dry and lacking sauce/flavors that were previously there. The portions were much smaller for the same/higher price(?). We ordered Ellie's caesar instead of brussel sprouts because there are great reviews for it, but the salad was also dry, lacking dressing/flavor, and was somewhat bitter. And 4 small pieces of extra bread for the bone marrow board was now an extra charge...? The service this time around was just ok compared to last visit and not really attentive (even though it wasn't too busy). I always give the benefit of the doubt to waiters, but this is still true. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience considering how much we spent. I recommend everybody goes and forms their own opinion, but we were incredibly upset afterwards and don't know if we will come back again. read more

The waiter was great at giving us options and dishes that can or can not be modified. We were eyeing our neighbors plates as they came out in tandem with ours. Been to Ellie's twice; once for dinner and last weekend for brunch. We loved our dinner. Everything was cooked perfectly and the amount were decent. Only downside from the dinner was that we needed to order everything in once (we like to take our time and don't wanna rush a romantic dinner but also get it from their point because the restaurant isn't that big) and the table was pretty small but besides that everything was perfect. Last weekend we went for the brunch and were seated outside. It was lovely (and tables bigger lol). I had the breakfast pasta and hubby the short rib hash. Both dishes were amazing! The pasta was kind of a pasta carbonara with a perfectly cooked poached egg. The short rib was tender and has a little kick to it at the end. Only the potatoes needed a few extra minutes. read more

We got seated at the restaurant and opted to wait 30 minutes for dinner rather than have their brunch service. It was well worth it to say the least. Their pasta well were prepared, made in-house so you know it's going to be fresh. I ordered their new pasta cavatelli which was cooked in a savory light tomato sauce with a touch of cream and truffle oil. Also couple dollop of stracciatella. What a win this dish was and if you're a vegetarian this is one not to miss. My other party ordered the tagliatelle which was one of their most popular dishes. The creme fraiche sauce cooked in seafood stock was so flavorful, not to mention their freshly made pasta noodles was cooked to al dente. We also ordered the farfalle which was with olive oil, fennel, and spicy sausage. All the taste and different sauce in each of the pasta dishes were unique and of its own. Ellie definitely got this down. I think I found my favorite Italian restaurant in LA. Note: service was great and waitress was friendly and attentive. The server told us that the food was family style... the plate was half pasta, bread and clams. Definitely made for one person or maybe even a child's meal. The food was good but not worth the wait. We really wanted to love this place. Servers were very kind overall and attentive but we felt the kitchen was overwhelmed given the GP crowds maybe. This was reflected in the Calamari app we ordered that would have been exceptional if it was hot but it was already room temp. My partner's food was served a considerable amount of time before mine and it was tepid while mine arrived hot. My Tagliatelle was excellent which leads me to say we both agreed the flavors are excellent but the execution is lacking. I really hate to say this but the sanitation situation (bathroom is unacceptable and my wife saw a rat) is severely lacking in a place that is trying to market itself at the prices it's charging. We cannot recommend this to anyone and we will not be back. read more

I came across Ellie's on either Eater LA or Thrillist for one of the restaurants I had to try in the Long Beach area. Because it's such a popular spot at the moment, I didn't make reservations and chose to come in on a weekday instead. My boyfriend and I were seated right away. It is pretty tight in there, so I'd suggest coming with a smaller party so you're more comfortable. Our seats were right outside the kitchen, so it was a little awkward hearing the chef yell at who seemed like a brand new busser/waiter to get out of his way. We both got a little greedy and ordered the brussels sprouts, lasagna, and tagliatelle. The brussels sprouts were delicious and I especially loved how the chili worked together so well with the other sauces and cheese on top! Now on to the pastas - the portions are enormous! The lasagna was packed with cheese and beautifully presented. The pasta was cooked to perfection. Each bite and layer was so comforting. I got a taste of the tagliatelle and fell in love with the sauce! Shrimp in the dish was a little overcooked. Overall, come for the food. Service was hit or miss, but I also think they're a little understaffed. Don't come here if you're expecting to get in and out of the restaurant in an hour. Tip: There's no actual parking lot here and you're not going to find much in the residential area. My advice? Park a little further down Broadway and just walk! read more

Had dinner here tonight and wow I just forgot how even better it was than I remembered! We had the melon and shrimp salad, carrot dish, lamb, and short rib entrees. We also had the chocolate cremeux dessert. This was one of the best meals I've had this year anywhere (and this includes trips to London and NYC). The attention to layering of flavors just never stops. Everything is so well thought out and delicious, not to mention beautifully plated. I'd order every one of these dishes again. Excellent meal from the app to the main dish! The staff at the front door greeted me right away and offered to assist in a hospitable way. Even offering a glass of Wine while I waited. My order came out later than expected so the (manager or owner?) offered me an additional 2 salads for the trouble. It was a kind gesture. The sauce was fresh and had great balance of flavor. The gnocchi were not too dense or gummy and perfectly cooked. His gf had the burrata rav's. Also had a lovely sauce and really delicious. I had the lasagna, which was a family dinner to share with my daughter and her bf. Plenty left over! You could taste the freshness in the sauces and quality in the dishes. I would be remiss if I didn't update my review after having a far better brunch experience than I previously did here a couple years back. My family came here Sunday for a postponed Father's Day brunch (I had a covid exposure scare around actual Father's Day). My mom won't eat indoors anywhere and this was the only outdoor spot around that didn't have a ridiculous wait at 1pm, in fact no wait at all. My dad and I got the bruschetta benedict ($18) and my mom got the avocado toast ($14) with 2 added poached eggs ($5). We enjoyed everything. Unlike the last time, the food came out relatively quickly, maybe 20 minutes tops. Our bacon was well cooked (last time it was far undercooked), the eggs were appropriately runny, and the hollandaise was great, refreshing lemon taste. I asked for a bunch of aiolis on the side. They were all decent but there was one I liked in particular, pretty sure it was the fried egg aioli. My mom loved her toast. My only complaint is they forgot to take the tomatoes off mine. I hate tomatoes so spent a lot of time picking it all out- there was so much packed in there. All in all, good service and tasty brunch food. read more
