Such a lovely spot on Providence. There's a parking garage practically next door. We had my daughter's baby shower at Ellie's. The staff was so sweet and accommodating. They decorated the place beautifully and had a signature nonalcoholic cocktail designed for both my daughter and her husband. They set up a gift table and a children's table complete with a paper tablecloth for decorating with the colored pencils the restaurant provided. Guests were provided with delicious pastries to take home a party favors. The sandwiches and pastries were delicious. The cake baker decorated the cake to match my daughter's invitations. A very nice French style coffee and breakfast restaurant. We are outside and had a guy playing the accordion. Staff was super friendly as well. We both had a bacon egg and cheese on a brioche roll which was super tasty. It was just a little small. The coffee was both very tasty and looked great as well. Unfortunately, since we arrived around 11, some of the pastries I had wanted to try (in particular, the different kouign-amann pastries they offer) were sold out. However, my family and I shared a number of different items around lunchtime and enjoyed all of them! We tried the honey bourbon cornbread, which was a pretty standard, tasty cornbread muffin--but when I reached the top, I was happy to find a delicious sweet glaze. This item wasn't too sweet, which makes it a good early morning breakfast item. We also had a corn biscuit with butter and jam, which was also delicious. The almond croissant was great as well; the almond filling had a sort of vanilla and honey-like taste and was so addictive! In addition to pastries, we tried two sandwiches. The breakfast sandwich (which we got with sausage) was really tasty; I normally don't love English muffins but this house-made one was great! The sausage was on the salty side though. We also tried the sandwich with tomato, mozzarella, and basil, which came on well-baked, chewy bread and was very refreshing. I also got a coffee and tried some of my sister's oat milk latte with caramel. We were surprised by how good the caramel was--it wasn't too sweet and actually tasted like real caramel! It was actually my all-time favorite caramel drink I've tried! Overall, we were really happy with our experience at Ellie's! Lovely place! Everyone I spoke to there were super kind and inviting. I ordered the chai tea latte with oat milk and it was delicious but a bit light and watered down (maybe my ice melted too quickly?). I would have liked it a bit stronger in flavor. Both drinks were a bit too watered down. My sister had the featured drink, which was an iced blood orange hibiscus tea (?). It was also very light but refreshing, not too sweet. You could definitely taste the hibiscus but not so much the orange. Would definitely love to stop by next time for a croissant and cup of coffee! I seriously don't understand where the high ratings come from. This place is a disappointment. First of all, It barely opens for business. Almost every day I pass by they're closed for some reason. They only open a few days of the week. There's always a sign on the door saying excuses like "because it's snowing we're closed for days" or "we will close for another month". Then, you'll see someone drinking coffee in front of a laptop inside while the store is closed. Or, they're closed for another month but a group of people drinking wine and laughing inside with a big red closed sign on the door. Is it a place only reserved for certain groups of people and not open to the public? Then, when it's finally opened, the selections are limited, portions are small, price is high, and not worth the time of anticipating nor visiting. In conclusion, it's a great location. If it's not a serious business, please give the spot to other business owners who are willing to serve the general public. read more

My friend and I loved everything about this place! The atmosphere is quite something. You can tell someone has put a lot of thought into the interior design and decoration. The food, of course, is the star. You could taste so much blueberry in the sundae, as you should be able to. The jam was a nice touch. The London fog gateau/cake was super light and moist, and not too sweet but with some tea flavor. I'd have liked the tea flavor to be slightly stronger. We happened to be in the city so I looked on Yelp for a breakfast place that we hadn't been to before. I have read so much about Ellie's on Instagram and I was happy to try it. What a lovely little café type place it was. The people were so kind and friendly and the restaurant made me feel incredibly safe which is just so important to me. Mike and I went in and read the sign which said that they did not have indoor seating and I knew from reading the Yelp review that they did have outdoor seating. We went up to the counter to order. They had disinfectant out and on display and everyone was wearing masks and the place was immaculate. As you enter this restaurant you are immediately hit with the wonderful fragrance of coffee. And I had a decaf which usually makes it not quite so flavorful but I had a decaf with almond milk that was outstanding. It was probably the best latte I have ever had and when I was halfway home I wanted to turn around and go back and get another one. Mike got an Americano which he enjoyed. We also split a breakfast sandwich. We just wanted something light but to describe the sandwich as light is an understatement. It came with egg, cheese and tomato jam and we added bacon. It was on the lightest English muffin I have ever tasted. It was absolutely delicious. We had it cut in half so we could split it and we were both regretting it later. Next time we will each get our own sandwich. My only regret is that their menu is so limited. They only had a few things plus some specials for breakfast and I might have liked to have been offered some different options. I'm sure whatever they offered would be good. This was my first time at Ellie's and it absolutely did not disappoint. The inside is quiet, classy and staffed with some very nice people. I ordered the roast beef which was made up of Boursin, watercress, red onion marmalade on baguette. That sandwich was fantastic and came with a side of gourmet fries, seasoned the right way. I also tried the French press coffee which comes to you table side with a literal sand timer, you press the coffee and pour, doesn't get any fresher than that. The vibe -- homey, classy, sophisticated -- with its fresh baked smells and gorgeous fresh flowers. I hope that Ellie's gets to re-open soon, because it was a perfect place to sit, chat with a friend, or catch up on work (free wifi). The interior design really is a work of art. The baked goods are absolutely delicious. Their macarons are visually gorgeous and have the deliciousness to match their appearance. The breakfast sandwich is a MUST HAVE. For some magical reason, the tomato jam is the best thing on that delicious English muffin. There are plenty of add-ons if you want to upgrade to a croissant (which I would recommend doing) or add bacon or anything else! I also got some of their croissants and cookies to go, which is always the right decision when you leave Ellie's. I haven't yet been for lunch or dinner, but I've heard their breakfasts are their strongest meal of the day. Situated right across from PPAC, the only drawback is that the parking can be pretty difficult, but with the pandemic going on, right now Ellie's is doing take out only. We got a gift card for this place and heard good things about it so had high expectations but were rather disappointed. The food was mediocre: we both had salads that were fresh but rather wanting in flavor. The French onion soup was decent though really over salted. The bill was the kicker: two soups and two salads for $60 seemed rather steep for lunch. The folks at the order counter didn't seem very happy to be there either and made you feel like they were doing you a favor by helping you. Passing the baked goods case, the stuff looked great and so on the way out my wife ordered a piece of cake. For $7 she was cut a slice about an inch thick (see photo), which is ridiculous for the price. If you do the math one can only imagine that a single cake must make this place $400 - quite a racket! Amazed I hadn't been by here before. This is a great little bakery in Providence. I stopped by on a Saturday morning and the line told me it was likely going to be a good visit. There were a number of different pastry options available and I ended up grabbing one of their Honey and Sea Salt Cornmeal Biscuits to go for my wife. I opted for the breakfast sandwich, which was anything but basic. It comes with an egg and Cabot White Cheddar on the House-made English Muffin. I went with the extras option. I added their house-made Sausage (which was awesome) and I paid the slight up-charge for the Biscuit, I couldn't resist. I had a great iced coffee and my wife enjoyed her Vanilla Latte. Google Maps led me to the new location on Weybosset and I was as confused as a chameleon in a bag of skittles. For those that are wondering, yes, I just typed in "confused as a..." into Google and that's what was suggested to me. Moving on. As I approached the counter I spotted a kouign-amann and instantly knew what I would be ordering as far as food. I believe I got a regular latte the first time I visited but a london fog the second time around. The latte was alright. Big. Not as sweet as I would have liked but I was able to add my own honey or sugar so no problem. I didn't enjoy the london fog but I think that has more to do with the fact that I just don't like Earl Grey tea. Now to the exciting part: the kouign-amann. The kouign-amann I've had back home from bakeries such as Bale are amazing. Warm, soft, crunchy, goey, buttery, and sweet... what more can you ask for? But this kouign-amann was different in a good way. Instead of being primarily composed of dough, butter, and sugar, there was a little piece of Brie in the middle so when they heated it up, the cheese partially melted. Great addition! They also added a small dollop of date jam directly on top. The brie and jam complimented one another quite well. Hands down the best pastry I've had in Providence so far. It can get pricey but Ellie's is one of those few places where every penny is well spent. read more
