I come to visit my daughter a few times/year. She lives only a few blocks away. Every time I passed by this place while walking the dog, I noticed that there were always ppl going in and out of Elliots. Always! A constant stream of customers almost all day. It's as if they were selling $5.00 bills for $4.00. I was definitely curious. Finally decided that it was time to sample the well-reviewed and popular chicken salad. Elliots is set up to order, get your food and leave. No seating, just the front counter when you come in the door. The lead person (I'm assuming it's the owner, maybe Elliot himself) has the kitchen humming like a well-oiled engine. They turn out food like no body's business. Serious, efficient, and prompt. He's very warm and personable however. Says a kind word to every customer. None of the staff acts like they're on vacation. As others have stated, they are friendly and care abt their clientele. I would agree. I only tried their chicken salad, which was good. Good portions too. I called in my order and it was ready in less than 7 minutes. With so few food places to choose from in this neighborhood, this is definitely a viable solution when the hunger pangs strike. A hidden gem. One of the few nice places to eat in the area. The best take out restaurant on the west side. They do have an eat in section, but usually the service there is slow. They are very busy for lunch, so make sure you call ahead for your takeout order and it will be ready. I've only had to wait a few minutes a couple of times. the customer service is great in that area. The pizza is great, but the daily specials are worthy of a fine dining restaurant. Check out the daily specials as they are some of the best entrees in the restaurant. The chicken catchatorie is awesome. The filet of sole with capers is also very, very good. Let me start off by saying I have been going to this place for the past year and was a loyal customer until today. The food is good not gonna lie but I refuse to pay money at a place where the "so called manager" is an idiot, rude and unapologetic! First off, I know what I ordered for petes sake I'm 7 months preggo and am currently not eating chicken because it makes me nausea so why would I order chicken and I am in my right mind. 2nd, he insisted he repeated order which they have in the past but he did not today! He was literally going back and forth on the phone with me. I'm sorry but if you suppose to be a manager why go back and forth with a customer. Aren't the customer always right and wouldn't you want to make the customer happy and have them continuing coming for business?! I guess not! No sorry, no acknowledgment of he made a mistake no nothing! So at this point he is becoming loud with me I told him hey look I will be bringing the food back and I want my refund. He told me he don't have to, I told him I will call the cops dead ass do not play with me. I tried to be nice, I tried to reason. So at the end of the day, I asked my dad to come back and go inside to get my refund because I would have caught a case literally. My dad was able to get my refund and we gave the food back. He had the nerve to tell my dad I will give her refund this time but next time she will have to come inside and look at my eyes. WTF!! I mean seriously who the fuck are you dude you fat fuck!!!! I've been going to this place over 20 years and they have not let me down yet! Elliot and the crew work super hard and getting people in and out the door quick but not without making sure you have high quality food from what looks deceptively just like another "greasy spoon" from the outside. Their specialties include a grilled chicken salad or sandwich (you can't go wrong with either choice), a grilled chicken pizza, and a "chicken beef" (think Italian Beef with shredded chicken). I'll advise calling in your order ahead of time and rest assured it will be ready when you get there. The only drawback is that it's a small waiting area with no chairs so if you don't call in you'll be waiting around while they cook your food to order. The owner takes a lot of pride in his business and does it because he loves it not because he has to. It's a true diamond in the rough in this West Humboldt neighborhood!
