We were out in downtown Danville for my sister-in-laws birthday, and stopped at one of our favorite bars Elliot's. The bartender that served us, Katie, was also celebrating her birthday that night so we bought her a drink. It was a pretty quiet Monday night, we were having a good time playing shuffle board and enjoying a few beers. By the end of the night she was accusing my brother of stealing beer glasses, and threatened not to give us our car keys back in exchange for the shuffle board pucks. My sister-in-law had a keychain pepper spray on her keys and Katie started heckling my brother on our way out telling him not to spray anyone. Long story short, we are very disappointed in the extremely rude service we received. Her behavior ruined the rest of my sister-in-laws birthday evening. We will never return to Elliot's because of that bartender, Katie. It's a shame. read more

I am not sure what to think about this place...regardless since it has been in business for 100 years, i doubt my review will make any difference but i would like t point out a few things and hopefully the staff and owner will take notice. Did i mention strong cheap drinks. We know people come here for the cash bar and heavy pour drinks. Cheaper than most and a great shuffleboard table. However, its difficutl to disassociate the level of sarcasm, but somewhat sharp for my tastes...maybe i should lighten up? My friend celebrated his birthday on Friday night and initially told all of us to go to Meenar. On my way there I received a text that the party's been moved next door to Elliot's. Meenar was far too packed and he wanted more room for everyone to mingle. Elliot's was a great choice! + no cover + cheap cocktails & beer + lively music + friendly & attentive bartenders + casual environment + hot dog vendor in front + best dive bar + atm conveniently located across the street (Patelco) and around the corner (Wells Fargo) + taxi convenience - they're posted outside the entire night - cash only A friend of mine bought the 1st round and ordered: 1 Stella, 1 Lemon Drop, and 2 Vodka Tonics. The total was ~$16. NICE! Red Bull Vodkas were only $5 and Vodka Tonics were $3.25. Both were served strong. What a great deal! Considering the drinks were such a reasonable price, the Cash Only rule wasn't much of a downfall. read more

I have always come here and the service is consistent. I'm definitely not going to get personal in this review so I'll stick to the facts The drinks are strong and the glasses small. But the cost is very reasonable. Great buzz per pour ratio. The bartenders are all attentive bc the bar is small. U may have to wait from time to time if your not a regular. The bar itself is very clich-eee. So go with your friends bc it's not really a meet and greet place. And plan on cabbing it home if your here for more than 3 drinks. I came here on my 22nd birthday (November 3) with a group of friends, just trying to have a good time. i don't know if being rude is this bar's "shtick" but honestly, the bartenders were just the meanest people I've ever met. I asked politely if they had any "birthday deals" at the bar (the bar closest to my college does that, so I just thought I'd ask) and the bartender laughs in my face and says, "Everyone has birthdays! What? Do you think you are special or something, princess?" I couldn't even believe it, I was nothing but polite when I asked. I just drank my drink and moved on to the Crown Pub, where I had a much better time. I came back in town a month later with a different group of friends, and the bartender working on Dec. 23 was EVEN WORSE. Treated my very sweet group of girlfriends like absolute dirt and ruined our night. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because every time I go I hate the experience, but at least my drinks are good lol. read more

Elliot's is the fat guys road house. They stir a line at the door to look busy when you can peek in and the small town atmosphere inside begs the question of the line. They clearly do not abide by the traditional bar ratio of 3 girls to 1 guy and thus far host a sausage fest while girls turn away because they don't want to wait in line. I would rather drive to the city or even to the Saddle Rack in Fremont to go out. This place gets 3 thumbs down. read more

But if you are looking for a place you can get fairly well liquored for $12, a pretty good selection of video arcadia and shuffleboard, and a bartender who will likely roll their eyes at you if you ask for a rum and diet... ding ding ding! Elliott's is your place. Still one of my favorite places to go during the week for a couple of cheap beers and a place to vent your troubles away with other local unruly types. Having the internet jukebox is a huge plus otherwise you'd likely hear mostly Credence Clearwater and Boston playing at all times. Sprinkle in some AC/DC for good measure. Bar staff are great and if it's slow enough, ask them for a history lesson on the bar itself, quite intriguing. Make sure you bring cash, they don't take credit and the ATM can be on the fritz sometime. read more

Elliotts is awesome and has the best bartenders around. Anyone who recieves bad service here deserves it for being dumb, rude, too drunk or what not. They don't take charge (only cash) and Bud's the only thing on tap but they have a full repertoire of bottled beers (always ice cold) and every kind of liquor you could want. Also, if you're getting too drunk or feeling munchy they have chips, beef jerky and corn nuts for sale. Bathrooms are always clean and there's a large back patio for smoking. If you're awesome and do something worthy, they kick you back a token for a free well drink or beer. read more

It was my second time back at Elliott's and it was, once again, a fantastic experience. Well drinks are $4.50, and the bartender does NOT play with the well drinks. My vodka cranberry was 80% vodka and 20% cranberry. Beers are $3 and there's a decent selection to choose from. They also serve wine, and from what I've seen, they serve it in giant glasses. It's a wonderful little dive bar. A lot of the people there seem like locals who frequent often. There is table shuffleboard if you're into that. There's also a Big Buck Hunter shooting game and Golden Tee golf game. The most important thing to note is that place is cash only. There's an ATM inside though if you forgot to bring money. We went in on Monday night after dinner at about 915pm expecting to get 1-2 drinks before they closed. (According to both Yelp and Google they close at 10pm on Mondays.) We had been there a while and at about 10 I realized the bartender, Katie, hadn't made last call so I asked, "Do you guys close at 10?" And her response was epic! "No. Who said that?" I replied with the internet. She assured me that she was not closing anytime soon and we had such a blast the rest of the evening! It was the last night before 2 of our best friends moved to Michigan so we partied it up and they went out with a bang! Katie was helpful and funny all evening. Wow! Went there around 5:30pm, before the young, "hip" crowd. Good folks, lot's of history, Mark being the best bartend, and had a great time. He had a good recommendation for single malt scotch. Yea, Elliott's is great. Great down-to-earth people with nothing to prove. Good conversation, nice bartenders. Very reasonable prices for a bar in downtown Danville. Typical age early 30's and up. In my opinion, the best Dive in the East Bay. Definitely better than Spoontonics, or any of that crap in Walnut Creek. How this place managed to maintain integrity in the heart of downtown Danvillian snootiness is beyond me. A historical site too... it's a hundred years old. Eugene O'Neill Jr. used to get drunk there while his dad was writing American classics like The Iceman Cometh just up the hill. read more

If you can't get their attention... ask the person next to you to help... why not make some friends while you're there? Everyone else in there knows each other. Yes, it's that kind of hometown/local bar. There are a few TV's for those sports fans. Yes, the hours are not set in stone. Why stay open until 2am if no one is in town? And... since I have your attention: they do a lot of charity work. June 1st they are having the annual Golf Tournament to raise money for Kids-n-Need. It's on the small side for bars but definitely a great place to go. They had multiple tvs with different games on and their happy hour is definitely a deal! Tonight I ordered both Absolut and soda and a Stoli and soda and they cost $4. Tonight I have regressed and this bar is cool. Deanna, the bartender, and I were right on par with each other. The prices are right. The shuffle board table is legit. My only complaint is that if you aren't putting money in the jukebox there is no music. When we showed up there was a table out with pizza, cheese, and crackers. Granted it was cold, but is this an every night occurrence? If so, free food moves you up about 5 notches on my arbitrary meter and that rules! read more

This place is almost the definition of "dive bar" except for the clientele. I was surprised that all decor and the staff would have screamed dive bar, but the average age of every patron was probably around 26. I appreciated that it wasn't too crowded, though a few more places to sit might have been nice. It's not that big. The drinks were priced extremely reasonable, especially considering the cute, semi-upscale neighborhood it seems to be in. It's definitely a long standing local joint, at least that's the feel I got inside. The bar isn't very big and there's not a whole lot to do there aside from drink and talk. There's a shuffle board table in the front, and a few video games in the back. I was especially amused by the Playboy pinball machine flashing me boobs as I advanced lol. I can't believe someone hasn't Yelped Elliott's - a Danville divebar since 1907. This place has some history... It's still a complete eyesore on the inside, but it has plenty of space for groups looking to get their drink on in advance of a hot night out in Danville. Did I say "hot night out in Danville"?
