If you're passing through Memphis, a must stop place off of exit 10 and 5 minutes from I-40 on the east side. The service was quick, fast and friendly highly recommend the smoked steelhead trout tacos, and brisket tacos beyond the tradition traditional barbecue options. The parking is shared with Lowe's, so there is no challenge for parking and there's outdoor seating with limited indoor seating.

Are you kidding me??! What did I just eat? That might be the best brisket taco I've ever eaten in my life. First of all, the owner/cashier/hype guy is awesome! I love his energy, so passionate about their food and will show to the ropes of the menu. It's a hole in the wall shack, plenty of parking at Lowe's. The food is excellent, it's no frills, delicious Memphis bbq. Good people, solid food. New favorite bbq spot in town.

I heard great things about our this place so we thought we would check it out. Elwood was voted best hamburgers in Memphis. So we decided to try it out. I saw they have 2 locations-on summer and on park. We chose the summer location which is located right next to the lowes parking lot. As a matter of fact there were so many cars parked up and down the side street that we parked in the Lowe's parking lot. This place is truly as the name says- shack! You will miss it if you are trying to see it from the street. You literally have to go into the Lowe's parking lot to see it. There are picnic tables set up outside which is where a lot of people sit. The inside seating area is small and can become extremely crowded with customers waiting to order and pickup orders. The service was excellent. Being our first time the staff explained everything to us as he showed us the menu. We absolutely loved this. It was a game changer which is why we chose instead of hamburgers to get the Elwood's Shaq Attack which is a sampler that can easily be shared. The sampler includes half rack of bbq ribs, 3 oz pork, 3 oz brisket, 2 wings, smoked sausage, chicken leg quarter, Texas toast 2 pieces, baked beans and slaw (or potato salad) I chose the slaw. They brought it out to us. Everything was delicious. Bbq, meat seasoned so well and smoked throughout falling off the bone good! The baked beans were delicious I couldn't get enough and the slaw was equally delicious. They don't serve anything fried so no French fries but you really don't miss it. Everything is smoked and you can smell it out the door. Drinks are self served. We had enough to bring home. I'm not a big bbq eater and I'm picky when it comes to it also I'm not a big chicken eater but I have to say Elwood's is the bbq place I would bring family too and recommend it to people visiting. The chicken was my favorite, the smoked sausage was some of the best I've had. We were pleased that we got the sampler and now we have to go back again for the hamburgers

FANTASTIC BBQ!!! I had the chicken bbq sandwich with grilled mushroom and cheese and good lord, heavenly. When I saw the reviews talking about it as sitting in a home improvement store parking lot and using the word " shack" to describe it, I was worried that there would be no air conditioning and that it would literally be tables in a parking lot. It is actually separate from the home store in its own area and it does have air conditioning inside as well as indoor and outdoor tables. Much nicer set up than I imagined. Five stars all the way around, really great counter staff, really great food.

Elmwood Shack in my Go-To Spots in Memphis I come from the airport to here. It was sooooo Good I came back to the airport and stopped by to get something for the plane ride home. I eat BBQ all over the country and a brisket and BBQ expert, I've been to plenty of spots, and this one keeps calling me back. What makes Elmwood Shack stand out? Consistency. Flavor. Comfort. You can roll through anytime breakfast, brunch, lunch it's all served all day, and it's all done right. Normally, I get the brisket sub (which is ), but I switched it up with the brisket wrap. No regrets. Bursting with flavor. My wife got the brisket taco, and the kids went in on their brisket plates--yes, it was a whole family affair. Shoutout to Daniele she knows the menu like the back of her hand. She gave us the rundown on the most popular items and made sure we were taken care of. Then used a highlighter to show the most popular items I enclosed below. I enjoythe vibe? I always feel like I'm eating at someone's house who knows how to cook and host. Friendly staff, good food, clean environment that's the trifecta right there. Spoke to Tim the owner really good guy. Scroll down for the pics rust me, they speak for themselves. If you're ever in the area, do yourself a favor and swing by Elmwood Shack. It's a five-star experience all the way.

    Ivette E.

The food was delicious I had a brisket taco which was perfection & my husband had a sandwich that was loaded with three different meats He also devoured his food . I highly recommend this place if you are in Memphis - it's not fancy or even pretty - but for delicious food for a good price - Come here!

I was looking for a place that had great ribs. The regular names came up, of course. Then I saw this one. Almost 5 star. The regular/ famous places were no better than 4.0 or less. One night here, I wasn't the best. So I tried it. I walked in and the place was jam packed. Wall to wall people. I spoke to Omar. (Owner? ). He was fantastic. Very nice and totally cared about my experience. I told him to hook me up with ribs and whatever he selected for me. I wanted to try a much as I could. He served me ribs, brisket, beans, and coleslaw. OMG. These were the very best ribs I have ever had. Tons of meat. The meat just falls off the bone. Big, thick pieces of meat. I ordered them dry rub, with a side of home made sauce. The brisket was plenty big. Very tasty and full of flavor. The sides were also very good. The entire meal was fantastic. Better than expected. Omar continued to come by and assure that everything was good. The service was great. His attention was beyond good. Good service. Great food. The attention to detail was fantastic. I highly recommend this place. You come to Memphis, your first thought should be BBQ. This is the place that you should go out of your way to visit. Well worth the trip. I guarantee it.

It was a beautiful day so we walked in to order and then just a few minutes later they brought our food to us out on the picnic tables under the awning. I really enjoyed the sautéed onions and jalapeños with the burnt ends. Great lunch with a lot of delicious flavor. It's what a bbq joint should be, smells like heaven, not fancy, and full of folks with a common interest...good, simple eats.

The Cuban Sandwich my sister and mom shared it joyfully and had quite a bit left!!!!

Elwood's is always five stars. My family orders all the things all the time. Most recently, we brought food in to eat at mom's and I snapped pics of several things that were ordered and loved. Please note, servings are big. My sister & I usually plan for left overs or split something. If you order for pickup and see a line when you come in, be sure to stay to the left. There is a line to order and one to pick up, and the pickup line moves if there is one.

Asked for recommendations for BBQ in Memphis from fellow KCBS judges. Had a few for Elwood's and it was close to the hotel. "Shack" is not a misnomer. It's at the edge of a Lowe's parking lot. The decor is fantastic! The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and talkative and funny. We ordered the kid's grilled cheese, kid's plain nachos, BBQ quesadilla w/o most of the veggies, the Cuban and a Combo Meat Plate w/burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork and a 1/2 chicken and beans and coleslaw. Everyone liked the food. My only complaint is that the chicken and brisket were overcooked (dry) and everything had the same flavor profile. Bonus points for the plastic drink cups, which we're still using :)

Food is always good here ... you can't go wrong I've never had anything bad .. so comfy and warm on a rainy day in Memphis

Don't sleep on Elwood's ... always full of love and flavor .. the friendliest of faces .. you won't be disappointed in your stop here .. deliciousness

Red Headed Step Child: Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Sausage topped w/ coleslaw & a dab of BBQ sauce.

Second time here. The ambiance remains the same. The service was super friendly and reasonably quick for how busy they were. On the recommendation of a work buddy, I tried the Fish Taco and got a 1/4 lb. side of brisket. The Fish Taco is garnished with fresh greens & a tasty crema sauce. It also contains a decent helping of smoked Steelhead Trout. If you're not adverse to a little fishy tasting fish, it's a pretty good taco for a smoke shack. The brisket, however, was a pretty dry & required a lot of sauce moppage to activate salivation.

Definition of hole in the wall place. Walk up to the counter to order, they do take cc. Eclectic menu. Pizza, bbq poboys, hotdogs, Cuban sandwich, fish tacos., etc. I had the Elwood melt and my wife had the chicken Philly. They were both good, Philly was diffferent but had a good flavor. Potato salad was excellent. Several flies buzzing around cost a star.

The food was excellent and we had a great server (Maggie) who helped us navigate the menu and the array of complimentary sauces. We ordered chips and dip (homemade) and this is not the standard bagged chips with salsa bottle. Crisp and substantial chips with fresh, flavorful, slightly spicy salsa. Really good! Maggie recommended the Birria Burrito with consume for my husband. Wow!!! Loaded with tender and flavorful shredded beef, whole beans, rice, and cheese in a grilled tortillia wrapper with a rich and hearty consume. He has a healthy appetite and still took some home. I got 2 alpastor tacos, which were excellent. Tender and flavorful pork with just enough pineapple. I alsi had a grilled chicken taco that was good, but not as luscious as the pastor. We LOVED the sauces. Yes, you got some mighty heat with a few of these, but they never sacrificed flavor for the sake of heat. Great pickled onion and habenaros, fresh crisp radish and cucumber, smokey, spicy dips. What is not to love!! Churos for desert, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Clean, well lit reasurant. Casual. Friendly service, great parking!! We will be back (and bring friends!)

Nothing to drink nor any sign of anyone even slowing down @ my table to take a drink order. Maybe they were fighting to see who would take my order? ‍ I was almost finished w/the basket of chips, decided what I wanted and LAID THE CLOSED MENU on the other side of the table close to the edge, hoping someone would notice. I had decided if they couldn't be bothered to come by the time I finished the chips I was leaving. Magically a waitress finally shows up w/3 chips to spare. Placed the order for water and dinner at the same time. Dinner came out quickly but looking pitiful w/barely a full tablespoon of guac, tomatoes or sour cream. Cheap bastards! The flour part of the chimichanga was NOT CRISP, & I was given plastic utensils to maneuver this sad plate. I have eaten here MANY times as I live in the area so I am more than disappointed w/this experience. Not a single customer sitting in the middle @ the 4-tops & @ least 7 booths empty; on a Saturday night @ 8:00 pm.
