My date and I went for a late dinner at emBargo in Hyannis, which started off nice. We ordered out drinks and tapas. I will say that the food was good, but after we got our cute little tapas it all went sour. For our entertainment we watched 8 (yes eight) bouncers throw 2 different guys out. We had 3 bites of our meal and the music got louder. Where we were 1/2 done with our meal, a bounce came over and told us that we would have to leave soon. Turns out that the hostess seated us on the dance floor. I said I was not happy about the situation to the waiter which didnt care, and we paid and left. On the way out there was a line of people waiting to get in, and the bouncer pushed me and my date as we walked out the door. I have not had such a bad time from a place in a long time. If you are 21-23, this place is perfect for you cause its a kids place, run by kids that dont care about their customer. Not worth the trouble! Pass it by. read more

Ok so let me start by saying we were pretty much shunned from the get-go just stepping up to look at the menu..... Mind you it was 9:30. We were told by the bouncer that we could not eat inside because my son was not 21...... Let me remind u it was 9:30. I know at 11 that they close it down to anyone under 21, but it was 9:30 and we were paid up and done on the cold patio by 10:45. The bouncer then made us stand there like jerks while he located the host. Who then 5 mins later located a busser. So all in all it took them 15 mins to seat us, then another 10 before the server even came over. While inquiring about a non-alcoholic drink that I make for people all the time, he tried to tell me NO before he even went and asked the bartender.... A mojito w no run in it is pretty simple right? So he returns with the drinks, a $12 watermelon tini(watered Down, no flavor my friend said), a $3.00 Shirley temple for the kid they wouldn't let in the restaurant at 9:30 and a $7.00 open liquor charge for my mojito no rum.... I would hate to know what they charge for a regular Mojito..... SO first round of food comes, we have no plates, silverware, no bread or water yet, (had to ask 3 times for it), and out comes the avocado wedges, not an appealing presentation and the avocados were brown. But I know that's just from prep, tasted fine. Next came out pomme frites w truffle oil(no ketchup or aioli(when we asked the server said they don't have aioli), then came out the steak and cheese spring rolls & we ordered all three of these items together too.... My friend and I took one bite each and could tell the meat was sour in them.... When the server came back and my friend told him what was wrong, he took them away but then came back to the table and told us that the chef looked at them and said the meat was fine? (Ummmm awkward, The poor server should've sent the chef out to my table and I would've told him myself being in the industry)ugh So next came a cheese plate(worst presentation I have ever seen) the lobster arancinis , and a shrimp cocktail for my son and scallops w basmati. All were delicious . We asked to see a dessert menu while we were still eating so we could rush out of there because the bouncer was glaring at us the whole time.... Chocolate torte came out and we couldn't even get a spoon through it andn when we showed it to the server, and he watched me try to put a spoon in it and I think the spoon was bending and he came back ONCE AGAIN that the Chef said it was supposed to be that hard because it was chilled, it was stale if you ask us (it looked like a piece of fudge shaped into a tart with whip cream on it) My friend had put her name on the karaoke list so we were just waiting for her song which was next and literally took five minutes maybe...... When I went inside to video her the bouncer came over to me and asked "when I was gonna get that kid off the patio??" Like this was absolutely the rudest thing anyone has ever done/said to me, and my son was just sitting there quietly and politely not doing a damn thing. Now let me say that I have been in the industry 25 years and I come from a family that owned a restaurant growing up, so if this is how this restaurant treats guests who are spending a $100 + each time they go there then good riddance.... All it honestly would have taken was a manager coming over and paying a table visit, I was looking for hospitality and we got treated like outlanders because we had a 12 year old at 9:30 ON YOUR PATIO..... For the $126 I just shelled out I could've been treated better or at least acknowledgement from the management. The server was fine, overwhelmed but trying, but a word to the wise momchil....... Just even pretend to go ask before saying no to someone. It makes them feel valued. read more

When I was growing up in the woodsy safety of the Connecticut suburbs, I was taught two things: Number one is never touch someone in the bathing suit area in till you are married, and number two is that Hyannis is a town that you should keep the windows rolled up in the doors locked until you're safely on the boat to Nantucket... We had an outstanding evening out in Hyannis tonight. It has completely changed. Embargo is fantastic. Without a doubt try the scallops, get the salmon ceviche, and the sushi is great. Easily a four star restaurant. Before and a half stars were offered we would give that. And that's only because five-star restaurants should be completely and truly memorable and those are only a handful in a lifetime. read more

Stay away! The service here is terrible! And to top it off the bartender demanded a 20% tip!!!! I am generally an over tipper but never never demand your tip! On July 28, 2018,​ at 9:50pm, Attention women! For your safety, avoid emBargo at all cost! I was just verbally attacked by an employee at emBargo. I had dinner with my family and stepped out. I tried to get back into the restaurant where my family was eating. At the time, no music, no line, no idea that the restaurant was about to turn into the club. An employee aggressively scold me for walking past him. The only thing he had to do was to get my attention and ask me for my ID. He had no right to verbally attack me! like I should have known the restaurant was turning into a club. What kind of world is it okay for a man to attack a woman. When I brought it up to the attention of the manager. I said, "Your employee sexism ruined my night. The male manager got extremely defensive and said. NO That is Not Sexism. I said a man attacking and scolding a woman instead of just asking for ID is Sexism. Again, the manager who had no idea what Sexism is repeatedly told me it's not Sexism he knows​ because he is Gay. This logic was crazy. I was dealing with a company who do not care about men attacking women. The manager condones his employee awful behavior. The manager could have simply apologized like a normal manager. For all women. Beware you are entering a dangerous restaurant were male employees do not care about women. After I ate at emBargo. I got violently sick. I believe the chicken was undercook. Please if anyone else got sick or attacked by a male staff employee please contact me. I am a second-year Georgetown Law Student. We as women have to stand up for our rights to not be attacked and stand up for basic food safety. I will take care of all legal cost. read more

What an amazing tapas bar!! We couldn't believe we found such a gem. Everything was delicious! The BBQ ribs with mango BBQ sauce were fantastic as were the Hot Legs (roasted drumstick and thigh served buffalo style). They are crispy and delicious with a wonderful house made blue cheese. The Lamb Lillie Pops were tender and delicious. We looked down and didn't even touch the sauce as they didn't need a thing!. Our server Bruno was fantastic!! He was very attentive and made our experience even better. We will be back and ask for Bruno. Saturday night arrived in Cape Cod with two of friends, checked yelp and found this 4 stars restaurants. The music in the restaurant was pretty awful and lousy, poor services, no band was playing. Then I ordered baked oyster and margarita, there's literally only 4 little pieces in the plate, not enough even for a snack! The cheese was already solidified, and of course, not tasty at all. So did the margarita, it felt like water! I feel I was totally fooled or mislead. Definitely not recommended! read more

Highly recommend this restaurant while visiting Hyannis! The decor is modern and chic. Excellent jazz band that played when we went on a Thursday evening. The food is delicious, we loved the concept of tapa style which allowed everyone to try each dish. The service was excellent as well! NOTE: This is only getting the extra star for live jazz & friendly bartender. Went here last night and sat outside, where we could still hear the jazz coming from inside. What we had for the first round: Malbec (wine) Tempranillo este (wine) Jumbo mushrooms with goat cheese Smoked salmon bruschetta My malbec wasn't really flavorful, but since it had already taken our waiter close to 10 minutes to bring our drinks I decided to just deal with it. My friend enjoyed her Temranillo & we would both recommend that. The food was pretty good- nothing to write home about though. Oh, and we also had been served what seemed to be french bread with a side of roasted garlic oil. Meh. The oil was rather bland, but not bad. Next round: O-Grab-me 'tini A-Pear-ance 'tini Churrasco style steak strip olive plate Again, the waiter took about 10 minutes to bring us our round of drinks. He had warned me that many people don't like this O-Grab-me 'tini, and once I tasted it I understood why. DO NOT EVER GET THIS DRINK! It's described as the ginger-infused martini using apple-ginger Absolut vodka, which sounds delightful (especially because I like ginger). But, oh my gosh, it tastes the way that airplane bathrooms smell. Seriously! Totally perfumey & hygenic tasting. I'm waiting and waiting for the waiter to come back so I can get something else & again we're waiting at least 10 minutes. Finally I take my drink into the bar myself, where there are 3 or 4 bartenders. I'm waited on in a matter of minutes. Our waiter blames his poor service on the slow bartenders. Whatever. I go on to enjoy my pear-flavored martini and the steak strips are excellent. The olive medley looks like something they'd scooped up from the leftovers at the local grocery's olive bar. The ladies near us recommended the watermelon martini, so if I'm forced to come back I'll get that. But this place just had HORRIBLE waitstaff & the endless stream of cardigan wearing & fake boob brandishing people walking through the doors was just the icing on the cake. Pass. read more

We were treated like second class citizens! Our party of 5 were seated in a nice booth & five seconds later w were asked to move by a blonde girl because it was reserved for the owners mom. Really? First of all there was no reserved sign on the table. We are paying the owner to feed his mom so we should not be treated like crap!!! I work in fine dining and would never ask a paying customer to move. The waitress wasn't any better. She rushed us for out drink orders then when we were ready to place order she excused herself to greet another table then eventually came back to us. I will never come back here. We sat outside in October and had an enjoyable time. The table has the cheese plate and olives for starters then the lobster Mac, Kobe dog, flatbread and a Cuban were all ordered and enjoyed. Are here with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day- he very strategically chose this restaurant since he knows what type of food I love, and I was not disappointed. We walked in and it was all couples- almost comical but obviously normal considering the date. It is a tapas style restaurant, so be prepared to order several small dishes. The menu had an eclectic mix of sushi, Mexican and other new American dishes (the lobster mac n cheese is out of this world). On mine and my boyfriends very first night visiting Cape Cod after coming all the way from NYC, we decided to go out for a few drinks once we arrived. We checked some places nearby in Hyannis and came across Embargo. I am absolutely shocked with the costumer service that we received within this facility. We ordered drinks and on our third order of drinks (aka it was 2 shots for almost $30, super over priced for no reason at all) the bartender, Dave, came up to my boyfriend and I and told us, "Go fuck yourselves" because we didn't leave a tip for the first time. We've been tipping with every order, but when you're paying $25+ for 2 shots, each time it becomes very pricey. It's not like we stopped ordering. Take into attention that nobody there was leaving tips at all, even the other bartender who came to apologize for Dave's repulsive customer service stated that they get $2 tip per hour. So what exactly made Dave come up to our faces and curse at us? Not just once! He literally cursed in our face, and attacked us verbally until I finally asked for management and security. He made us feel super uncomfortable to the point where we stopped placing orders and left. We felt threatened and shocked, especially since it was our first night there! Dear management, please you need to do a better job on the staff that you hire and you must train them on professionalism. This is a business. The place is nice but when everything is overpriced and the staff attacks the customers (not the first review I've read like this)... clearly something needs to be adjusted. You need to fire employees who harass costumers, and instead get professional employees that suit your facility. This is a restaurant, lounge, club where the energy should be great... not a place for barbarians. I'm leaving 2 stars because the ambiance and decor was nice in the restaurant. Hope the necessary changes will be put into place to secure not only the business, but the experience of the customer. read more

Tamara and I had a few things here around happy hour. The food was great! Oysters were fresh, the Lamb "lollipops" were awesome and the garlic shrimp were very tasty. A little spendy but what do you expect for the Cape. I would suggest between 4:30 and 6pm, they have happy hour specials 7 days and week or Tuesday all day is half price tapas. Interesting place. To be fair we did not eat here but food looked good. Came in for drinks with a few friends. One friend had a few drinks and by accident walked into the woman's bathroom. He immediately apologized. When he returned to the bar security asked to speak to him. Which he gladly did and the security person was very good and very professional. But, as they were speaking a manager walked up and grabbed his arm. As someone who has worked in many bars and Restaraunt's as a manager you never ever touch a customer unless you feel threatened or the person has to be removed. The security person had his hands behind his back and my friend had them in his pockets. My friend said to the manager "don't touch me", the manager said "I was going to let you stay but now you are out of here". At the same time I asked the bartender, who was very unfriendly "what's this all about". Mind you the rest of use had only had 2 drinks all night. Bartender replied "he walked into the woman's room then walked into the kitchen and started yelling, your night is over you are f-ing out of here". Ok for one yes he did walk into woman's room but immediately leaned his mistake and walked out. I was watching him as I knew he had a few too many and he never went near the kitchen. Mind you we rage in age from 51-53 so kicking us out at 10:00 pm really is no big disaster. But is shocks me that this is how a restraints and bar is run. This is downtown Hyannis at the end of January, not Boston or NYC. Not a place I would return to or recommend. They need to learn how to deal with situations. A manager should never touch a person when a security person is working with a customer and a situation is non existent. We immediately went to the Tap City Grill which was a lot better atmosphere and the bartenders were awesome and funny. read more

Upon my visit to Cape Cod this weekend, we made not one, but two trips to embargo. After our first night with great food and great service, we decided to try it again. We were pleasantly surprised to have the same waitress and she even remembered us! Mind you the night before we tipped Kiersten 30%. Our food and drinks came out with no problems, however our waitress was paying little attention in navigating her tray and was able to spill water and food on two members of our party without even acknowledging she did it. (See photos) Upon paying our bill, we asked the waitress to split our bill 5 ways. Kiersten took our forms of payment and returned and did not explain to us she decided to split the bill her own way. I'm not a major mathematician, however 318 divided by 5 doesn't mean 4 people pay 79 dollars and one person pays 9. We asked her to correct her error and she said "I didn't do it the computer did." She had a major attitude and refused to bring over the manager after we asked 3 times. Embargo adds an automatic 20% gratuity to any party over 6 patrons, however she did not earn it. The manager eventually was brought over and he fixed the issue, which he said was an easy fix. The waitresses' suggestion to fix this issue was for us to just Venmo each other or give each other cash. Apparently Kiersten just doesn't like to own up to her mistakes and when she can't explains them she just storms away from the table. She repeatedly said it was not her fault and simply that that is how the computer splits the check. Would not recommend based on the service alone. read more

I have being going to this place for years and find the food to be consistently fabulous. I have chosen their lobster Mac and cheese as my go to last meal if I ever end up in death row. It's sensational! I would give this place 5 stars if it were not for their cheesy house music and club like ambiance. It totally cheapens the quality of food. I prefer to not see a silhouette gogo dancer while eating. It's distracting. Embargo does not need all these superfluous bells and whistles. Menu looks great but if you are trying to come here without a reservation in the off season and there is no one waiting you will be told 45mins to an hour. I asked how that's possible with no one waiting and the maitre d pointed to the people behind him with balloons on their tables. I said that's a birthday party no one is waiting they have tables. He said yes. I saw multiple empty tables. Then he stated well we have reservations too. I then said but no one is waiting and he rolled his eyes and sighed. I will be avoiding this place forever. I'm not some poor kid trying to get not some fact restaurant like a movie. We are a large family with equal salaries. I have never been treated like this as an adult. I will never go here. Not sure if it's because I am not a local (Boston) or because I'm mix. Either way I don't care. I advise everyone to not go here if they can. The staff is impolite and will lie to you.
