Moby Dick's is obviously a busy place in the summer, being right across from the waterfront -- but…read morein January, it's a sleepy area and the restaurant is active, but not too busy. We found the food unremarkable - standard fish, standard chips, standard coleslaw, standard tartar sauce. All fried food is pretty standard, pretty greasy, but not any better or worse than many fish & chips shops. So why a 3-star rating rather than 4-stars? First, there is there menu and pricing: What is called a 1-piece fish & chips comes with 2 pieces - all identified fish comes with one extra piece. It's a gimmick, and mostly just annoying. 2nd, there is a charge for everything -- Want tartar sauce? There are three sizes, three prices. Want to substitute onion rings for the fries? Can't do it, even with an up-charge, though you can order fish and you can order onion rings, each separately, each with its own price. Coleslaw? Yes, but not instead of fries. And the coleslaw is pricey - a good sized portion, but a substantial price none-the-less. The portion sizes are reasonably large, but the incessant a-la-carte with each item with a price - one feels nickled and dimed to death. The atmosphere - ok, 1950s-ish, nothing special. The staff, friendly and attentive, but young and inexperienced. And then there was the problem with the cooking -- we got 5 pieces of fish (ordered 2 and 1, which is really 2+1 and 1+1 = 5). Four of them were pretty standard. One was undercooked - cooked on the outer edges (under the fried batter), and raw and translucent on the inside. Yes, they took that off the ticket, so I didn't have to pay for it, but biting into a piece of raw fish with the outside so hot it almost burned my mouth and the inside uncooked - not so pleasant. Moby Dick's gets good ratings from many Yelpers, but in my view, it's not worth going out of your way for.

Be prepared to wait, and wait you will. Especially if it's a sunny day. 30 min to order your food, and then another 20-30 min to get it, depending on how busy they are. Outdoor seating only with a bunch of benches and a few tables. I already knew I was going to do take away, so I didn't need to jostle for a seat. Almost everyone else had to do the jostleing. Two piece cod and a salmon tacone. The cod was overcooked. The tacone was good. Fries were crispy and unevenly fried. Meaning some pieces were burnt a little. Still acceptable tho. Hence the 3 ***'s It was decent, but it didn't wow me. Maybe it was an off order day. I like my fish. You can smell the ocean near the pier. Makes me feel I'm surrounded by fish and everything fishy.

We were invited to sit anywhere although a few tables did have a reserved sign on it. Reservations are recommended on weekends, which there are not a lot of places to go so this would be the most popular place! There are a few booths along the windows which would be a great place to watch the sunset or water inside on a colder day. The food selection is mostly standard Tavern fare. I chose the Reef's Point Bob Burger which includes lettuce, tomato, cheese, grilled onions and sautéed mushrooms. I asked to hold the mushrooms. I was not expecting this food to be as delicious as it was. The fries were crispy and plenty of them. The burger and toppings are all fresh. Their honey mustard dipping sauce is just wonderful. Enjoyed the pickle slice on the top as part of the presentation. I'd like to go back and try their other options!

Anyways, we managed to get here and was surprised that it is surrounded by completely new developments. Note that the beer that you get here can't be found at their other locations. They sell locally in house brewed beer specific to this location. We came during Octoberfest and B ordered something off the Octoberfest menu. B got the Bratwurst sandwich and I got the Brewmaster burger. I truffles fries with mine instead of their regular fries. The burger was very delicious and so was the fries. It was a bit messy to eat. B said his sandwich was huge and he was very stuffed afterward. His regular fries came with curry ketchup which was also made in house. All the food was delicious. The view was nice. The restaurant inside is quite nice and very modern. B ordered several beers and he said everything tasted great. Service was good as well. There are plenty of free parking in the area. We will definitely be back again.

Spacious place with large windows that allow for lots of lighting. Lots of tables. I loved the layout of the place too with very neutral colours on the inside. It was very clean as well. The service was wonderful. Lots of amazing friendly staff. Food: I had the harvest bowl and I had them add crispy chicken. The dish itself was very delicious. I just found the crispy chicken lacked flavour (maybe it needed an extra pinch of salt or some sort of added flavour to it?) but overall it was a great dish otherwise and the portion was quite a good portion too. Very filling. We ordered some apples and I tried the hot oyster mushrooms as well. Loved this dish and the flavour was really great on this - weirdly enough this dish was the opposite from the crispy chicken in my main; it was over salted (in my opinion).
