I do not normally review or like to complain about poor experiences on yelp as I have worked in the service industry for many years, but this particular experience is worth sharing because of how disrespectful and unprofessional we were treated. I was in RI for an old college friend's wedding and had the opportunity to grab brunch with my old college roommates, we have all graduated and do not get the chance to be all together often, and decided to come here. Worst possible decision we made. We get seated at the bar and we're being helped by Laura. We are all over the age of 21 (22,23,23 if you want the precise ages of all of us) and my two friends order mimosas and I a coffee and water. Laura asks us for our ID's(makes sense as that is literally what you have to do, but for a coffee and water for me?weird) and immediately gives us a very rude "these all look fake, these won't fly." All of us, being well over 21, immediately explained that all of our IDs were real, government issued IDs politely to her. But we were once again met with a very rude response from her saying that "these won't fly anywhere." After being met with rudeness multiple times in the exchange patience did become a little difficult. She served my friends their mimosas and gave me more attitude about my supposed fake ID, curtesy of the great state of Connecticut's DMV(which is the place where all CT residents received government issued Drivers licenses) and rudely asks what I am getting(my response is a cup of coffee, which isn't even alcohol). Laura goes across the bar to other patrons and talks very unkindly about the exchange that we had just had and is making fun of us, literally in front of us. At this point, our college roommate reunion was no longer a joyous occasion, but rather a very demeaning experience. We decided not to continue to dine and have brunch elsewhere, so we asked for the check, and instead of having the opportunity to leave without any more nonsense, Laura slid her phone to us(as a service industry worker, having your personal phone out is already unprofessional, but it gets even worse) opened to a google search on how DMVs discourage smiling in photographs, which apparently was something that she learned in her certification class for bartending(one of my friends also took that same class that Laura referred to, and she is also a certified bartender). Something that apparently wasn't fleshed out or wasn't properly taught in her class is that while some DMVs discourage smiling in Identification photos, that is not a universal case for all states in the US. CT where I am from (and where I hold a driver's license, which Laura claims is fake up until I implored her to call the police if she is so confident as I lost all my patience in this situation), while they discourage big smiles in drivers license photos or identification photos, they accept ID photos with the person smiling in them if they are soft. So you CAN smile in the ID photo, many CT residents smile in their ID photos, and is not "proof" that an ID is fake if you see someone smile in a CT ID. At this point in the dining experience, Laura should have let go this claim of fake ID's, especially since she served my friends and the fact that we were so uncomfortable with her service and treatment already, as we are leaving. But she could not and did not. At this point we have lost all patience and decided to advocate for ourselves and call her out on her rudeness and expressed how her google search on her phone and comments were not necessary in the slightest. Again, I have worked in the service industry for years and I always make sure to take care of servers with good tipping practices, and for the first time ever decided not to tip, due to my service industry experience and takeaway from this disrespectful, demeaning, and unprofessional service that we have received. I implore management to reevaluate and encourage employees at this establishment to deal with situations more professionally. At the end of the day, if you truly thought we were underaged, you should have taken a more professional and respectful approach and this situation would have not have taken place. Unfortunately, this could very well be my last chance to see my college roommates all together for at least a year and it had a very sour start. If you end up dining here, don't be helped by Laura, as she clearly is unprofessional, disrespectful, and demeaning towards persons that appear younger, as the people she made fun of us with were middle aged men. That was the most demeaning, as you, Laura, had nothing better to do but make fun of 22 and 23 year olds with other guests. read more
