Let me start off by saying if you've been to a Chinese buffet you know how the service is. No complaints there. Another thing worth noting is you eat free on your birthday, also worth noting is that that's one of the three stars. The selection here is pretty good. Lots of dishes, some pretty interesting. I didn't try the sushi as I was told it was terrible. I didn't try a lot of things honestly, the food was pretty damn bad. If you're down for greasy food be my guest, I just can't do greasy. I felt sick after about 10 minutes in this place. I might be overrating this place, but my friend and I had a pretty good laugh making fun of the food and odd clientele. The place isn't very clean, the standards aren't very high. However the place is pretty relaxed, has pretty good variety and price. I am not a food gourmet or snob. I like a variety of any food, as long as its "all you can eat", I'm easy. And i like Empire buffet. Most of the food is good! I love the wonton with cream cheese, the hot and sour soup, the spring rolls, the mushrooms, etc. Someone mentioned the "coconut" chicken: it is NOT coconut; it is indeed, awful awful mayonnaise. When i first tried it, i tried to tell the management that someone confused the white sauces, but no one spoke enough English to understand me...or they pretended not to. Why does it endure?? I really liked this place. I've read the other reviews and I think ppls expectations are inordinately unreasonable. It is a buffet. For dinner at 12.99 in Eugene, for half way decent food, is remarkable. When I went there the staff was polite. The food was fresh and refreshed often. It tasted as good as any other Chinese food in Eugene that I've eaten and it had all the buffet staples that make you smile. Lunch is even cheaper. The food and the service in this place make think that the restaurant is a front for a less than legal business. There's no way possible that these people are serious about this place. All the food is cold, first of all. And most of it looks sad, anyway. The vegetable fried rice tasted like grease. Literally. After the first forkful slid down my throat, I realized that I had made a mistake. This food is less than mediocre. And yet, to call it horrible is to give it more credit than it deserves. You won't find a better buffet in the area. I've tried. The selection is better than most places you'll see, and most of the items are good. There are a few misses(the canned tuna sushi) but for the most part you won't be disappointed. Considering the price you can get a really great meal. My favorite dish here was their Dr.Pepper. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. It was a little awkward when several items at the buffet were labelled incorrectly. The "chicken tenders" were actually popcorn shrimp, and the "garlic bread" was fried eggplants. I didn't even eat the one plate I made for myself. I doubt I'd ever come back here again. We were there this afternoon and found that they have made some improvements since last visit. Server and cashier speak little English or maybe pretend to not understand so we were fine with that. Food was warm and for the most part tasty but the oysters in the shell were terrible in some kind of sauce that looked like gooey mayo mix. The rest of the food looked pretty good but we never do Sushi. The soft ice cream machine had only vanilla no chocolate. Bah. I think you do get a lot of variety but a little spendy. Don't buy iced tea as hot tea is free , strange? Senior discount $1.00 off . If you find something you really like, well there is plenty of it sooner or later. Oh ! They have crab but really skinny legs but probably worth the effort to crack the shells. We most likely will return but not too soon as once every three months is about right. read more

I like their Tuesday lunch buffet (11AM-4.PM). It is quite cheap and the options are good. However for some reason they have replaced the only pork option they had with a chicken variant on the same dish. Which is sad becuase the pork dish was damn good. They have better Teriyaki chiken than Panda Express. The staff is friendly. You might have to beware of the random old white racist ladies that frequent there who might make unsolicited comments about you. (However it is not the fault of the staff or the establishment.) Anyway, all in all this is a good and cheap place to eat near the university of Oregon. Seriously, Don't go to lunch there! Everything is barely room temperature, bland, slight variety. No bbq pork, or decent meat options. The place is dark and dreary. You can tell it's across from the University, the music suck, not for real adults. Probably the only reason why the place is still open ,students don't care about cuisine. Well, I'd hoped for much better quality. The variety is pretty good (especially if you like chicken), but the food was mediocre at best. Any time Sunday is the full dinner cost, and although $12 or so isn't going to break the bank, it was a lot of money for "just OK" food. I can see why the college crowd likes it. Most college kids had their plates heaped with crab legs and fried shrimp, so they probably made it worth it in volume. If you want good Chinese, skip this buffet. read more

Really enjoyed the fresh sushi made right there in the front. The sushi was fresh and tasty - better than most buffets I have been to. Good selections of Americanized Asian food. Lunch was $7.99 and a great price for the selections offered. I especially enjoyed the Coconut Chicken. I would go back again if I was in town. read more

I used to go here often, and the last time... well was the last time. The food is okay, salmon is farm raised - not worth eating. NOW SANITATION ! ? First I noticed one group / family grazing while dishing up their plates - oh gosh they must have been so hungry they forgot about manners and sanitation - disgusting ! I mentioned this to a bus worker - he grinned as if excuse or pretending not to understand - yeah right. Then as we dished up our plates - I look over to see the sushi chief IS EATING at his station- next to raw fish etc. I told the management about this, and she did not offer any apology nor discount... Even my young son knew what he saw was unacceptable and unsanitary. To counter the other review from Brandon - sanitation is not relevant to price - either clean or not. When I got the lack of response from management - that promoted me to call Lane County health - and file a compliant . I have eaten street food in Thailand that has cleaner standards. If all you want is "Lots of FOOD' here you go. "Woohoo!" is right! When I bolted upright at 2 am, I knew that this place was special. Since I was a boy, I dreamed of one day becoming a human water rocket. Empire Buffet made this dream come true. SO disappointing! I will NEVER be coming back here. EVER! I called beforehand to ask if they had vegan options (as I know some buffets don't) and they said they had a bunch and that they were labeled. When we got there, there was next to nothing for me and nothing was labeled so I had to guess. I was able to have some noodles (may have had egg in the noodle) and some spring rolls that look exactly like the ones we get from the 99 cent store. Tried to have some vegetable sushi but had to spit it out because it tasted more like fish than I remember fish itself tasting like. Like I said, I know all buffets don't have great options for vegans, but I was expecting better considering I called beforehand. The worst part of all, they charged us $28 ( for 2)! The service was not very good and the tables were greasy. It looked like they had a good selection of food, but when I started to eat I found that it didn't really matter much. I tried almost everything they had and it was almost all horrible. The only edible things I found were the spring rolls, egg flower soup, and sweet and sour chicken. The beef with broccoli wasn't bad. The beef was no good, but the broccoli and sauce tasted good. In the end I got sick and my stomach felt like it was going to explode. Not worth it at all. OMG Waiters are horrible. They watch you like a hawk so you don't take home food. When I was there I got my ticket to take to register to pay, which I did and when I was getting into my car here comes this waiter screaming at me that I cheat him. So embarrassing. i came for the crab and was disappointed its over cooked and dose not hold together for proper butter dipping. besides that little sour note i have to say everytime i go there i leave happy. i wish they knew how to cook crab but i can live without it the coconut chicken is good. and the clams and oysters are superb come during dinner hour to get crab oysters and clams read more

The food was not good, the peanut chicken taste like it was dipped in peanut butter, the egg rolls are cabbage and fakey bacon fried in dirty grease , along with the pot stickers which where a weird color inside maybe more fakey bacon?? The beef in the only beef dish (beef & broccolli) had no flavor and was terrible beef. The banana pudding had old black bananas. I have to say the only thing ediable was the curry chicken but not worth 11.99 . They need a new cook and better grade of food before I would go back. But for now I will keep my money in my pocket and go else where. read more

I like Empire. They have many, many options to choose from including seafood, salad bar, and a small dessert bar. I recommend going when it is busier, as you will know the food is fresher. I particularly like the potstickers, the peanut chicken, the garlic shrimp, the egg rolls, the chicken skewers, and the sushi. Just like all buffet restaurants, they have some items that should be left off the buffet line such as the fries and garlic bread, sitting under a heat lamp does not help them one bit. Tuesday's lunch is $1 or so off the normal price, and boy does it get packed! Go on your birthday with a friend, and order 2 beverages, and your meal is free (bring id). They offer a stamp card for earning another meal if you are a frequent diner. Not fancy, just tasty, and the waitresses are always friendly, and unless the place is crowded, they remove dirty dishes fairly frequently and you can get refills on your soda. read more

I keep giving the Empire Buffet "another chance" but I think I'm finally done with that. There is a fairly good selection of dishes and in spite of others experience I think the food tastes okay. The sushi bar looked ok to me but I'm not a partaker so guess I can't really judge that one. The place could definitely use spiffing up - the carpet is coming apart and it's dark & dingy. But my biggest complaint - and always has been - most of the food is lukewarm at best, or cold. It is one of my pet peeves and it drives me crazy when a restaurant can't even get that right. This was my experience the first time I went there for lunch years ago and I'm just amazed (maybe appalled is a better word) that it hasn't improved at all. I'm done. read more

as with most buffets ... timing is everything. You want to be there 30 minutes after noon and 5 pm. However I am going tomorrow at 2 pm because they let you park your car for $5.00 if you eat there before a event at Matt Knight arean. And tomorrows basketball game is at 3 pm. I am thing that the buffet will be on the old side but I can live on kim-chee and rice and they have that! We'll find out tomorrow if their food is good after prime time ...
